Oh praise the lord, I just found a solution after posting this everywhere and nearly trying everything! So for anyone who finds this, because they have the same problem: After connecting the keyboard, I changed my input settings from Swiftkey (which I normally use on my devices) to AOSP keyboard, and I was able to move just fine in Borderlands 2 via Gamestream!
I then tried a few things, and it seems the problem is connected to my german QWERTZ keyboard layout! I installed this to try to solve my problem, and while setting it up, I also activated QWERTZ layout: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo So after setting everything up to NOT use QWERTZ layout or changing input method to AOSP keyboard, it is now working fine finally! :)
Yeah, thank you, it's working. I successfully remapped alt+Z,X,C,V to the four brackets. I'm currently using:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo
and if I stay with it, I'm gonna have to buy the Pro version:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelper
But I'll first look more for other solutions too, possibly free ones. I just wanted to report back that it's working and to thank you all for the help.
Download the app Gamepad tester from the playstore and check what values your gamepad gives, also you can try remapping it without root with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo
Same here. The only app I found that partially worked without root was the External Keyboard Helper: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo&hl=en
However, after two days of fiddling with the setup and configuring everything, it didn’t seem to take the input once you’re in xCloud.
This seems to be an issue with Oreo based Android TVs.
If you find anything that might work, please let me know.
Maybe try the app below, the demo version is plenty, it's a big help when using a external USB or BT keyboard:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo
So I have this remote but the back button issue made it unusable for plex, etc.. Installed External Keyboard Mapper Pro which says it remaps Esc to back by default. BOOM! Back key working!! I just installed the demo version https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo&hl=en&rdid=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo but so far so good.
hmmm.
there is this that works okay with most keyboards. Haven't used it in a while since my tablet is big enough that the on screen works fine for me.
That is weird, try reporting the bug to the developer at the drastic forums: http://drastic-ds.com
A workaround you could try is remapping your dpad to something else using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo
Hey I had exactly the same issue, I too had bought a external keyboard/air mouse combo except mine was for the Scandinavian qwerty+åäö layout.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo
This app should work for you too as it gives you the ability to set your own keyboard layout.
Currently it works fine for all the applications except for the new youtube application, however I have strong feeling that this will be fixed soon.
If you are having Keyboard problems I recommend External Keyboard Helper:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelper
You can also use it to setup text strings e.g when I type Ctrl+...+g it types out my gmail address
but it does really work?, i was using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo and remapped OK button to Enter, i could navigate trough android...but when i used google cardboard tutorial at first it wants me to press a "touch" button instead of enter.
Very important question to me: How is the physical keyboard detected by the phone? As a bluetooth keyboard? Would it be possible to install say External Keyboard Helper and remap the keys?
This is important to me since I'm from Sweden and the default way of typing the Swedish letters (Å, Ä and Ö) is not at all efficient on Blackberries.
Try remapping your gamepad with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo
> External Keyboard Helper [DEMO] / [PRO]
Holy shit, thanks for mentioning this app. I'm using a 3rd party remote (Mele F10 deluxe) and one of it's flaws was, the home button doesn't sent the "Browser home" aka. Home button, instead it sent a PC keyboard Home button command. Which is not the same. This was i was able to remap the key. QOL app.
ps.: in EKH: The 'Search' opens the voice search option (so with an external usb mic you can search with your voice), the 'Explorer' command opens Chrome if you have it installed.
ps2.: i just realized that you can bind applications to keys: http://blog.apedroid.com/2012/11/ekh-tutorial-5-application-shortcuts.html so if you have spare, unused keys on your remote you can open apps with them. I rarely use the media buttons, i just rebinded them to open Twitch, Youtube and Spotify.
Have you tried use External keyboard helper app?
Get the Demo first, and test it.
If you like it, eventually you need the Paid version.
This app replaces your on-screen keyboard, but you can rebind your keys.
What kind of controller is it? I didn't even know they had non Bluetooth variants. Hmmmm. Try this app I know for some users in the past it has been what works for them. It does not require root. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelperdemo
