Might have found a solution. Those who are also suffering from battery drain caused by google service play, try downloading GserviceFix app.
The battery on my phone acts a lot better now and I didn't notice any negative effect on the phone after using the 'fix'. Also, after you're done, it's better to keep GPS disabled and use it only when you actually need it.
Give it a try, see if it helps you

Look for gservicefix in the play store. Follow the steps as the app tells you. That way I fixed the issue. The fix should last about a week then do it again. Until we get an update I don't know what else can do about it
EDIT: Link
I found that Google Play services drained my battery because it always used my GPS for some reason. This app worked for me, and stopped the random GPS usage: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playfulgeeks.gservicefix
I have had similar problems before in the past. Give this App an install and follow the directions (it's very simple). It should fix the issue for you.

It started happening to me a few days ago as well on Verizon
I thought it was the heat but it appeared that Google Play Services and Google Play were burning up my battery at around 20% and 15% compared to 10% screen on time. My phone was warm around the camera even when not in use.

I downloaded that app and followed the instructions. Ran it a few times and the power button - camera area cooled down.
Now Screen on Time is 23% Google Play Services is at 10% and Google Play is is at less then 2%, and also my phones not on fire, its just working normally again.
Edit: After you do this go back into your account sync settings and see what is no longer synced. I think Play Services is trying to auto sync constantly with some app, not letting our phone sleep. (probably Verizon related)
> If I do wipe internal storage I delete TWRP and the ROM?
Nope, you won't delete TWRP by deleting any partition, and you won't delete the flashed rom by wiping Internal Storage (but you'll delete the .zip file)
You can try making a clean flash of the rom and latest GApps or use this app, I worked for me a long time ago when Google Play Services were using a large ammount of battery.
This one? I've never heard of it or tried it. Should I install it, or are you saying Samsung has their own variant?
I haven't had this problem on this phone, and some claim its work is dubious, but when I've run into this type of problem previously, GServiceFix has corrected whatever was going on. If you don't like it, find another program that does similar things, or look up how to do what its doing manually.
Last resort is always a Factory Reset.
oh shit i forgot that you need to have your phone rooted.fuck im sorry.
I guess you could try this, but i am not sure since i didn' t have a chance to try it out. https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/fix-google-play-services-battery-drain-fix-no-apk-root-privacy-guard-or-script-needed.297708/
Edit: you could aslo try this app, i've seen some nexuses 5 fixed with it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playfulgeeks.gservicefix
Interesting comment in one of the (one star) reviews of gservicefix
> It works, but... Only because the user is told to manually disable location and sync. I decompiled the apk and checked. It does nothing else.
So that's what I've done directly. Don't know if it worked yet. Certainly turning off the GPS location service helped some.
I had a problem like this not too long ago.
Install this and follow the in-app directions: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playfulgeeks.gservicefix&hl=en
Try out gservicefix, that helped me.
