The Android media scanning process that 'adds' pictures to the Google photo app will ignore a folder if it contains a file named ".nomedia". I've never heard of the folder method above, but the file method works. There are some apps in the play store to help with creating these files. Here's one I grabbed as an example.

You can do this easily with the Nomedia app, or do it manually using a file manager by creating a blank file named .nomedia in the root folder where the images are located.
It sounds like the cache is being shown to other apps. Just download Nomedia, and use it to hide those folders from your photo gallery.

Hi Bot, I meant another Nomedia from g(x) labs. It is damn simple way to use.
Another thing is, when you select a folder banner in Piktures, it gives you an option to "Hide this album".
Use this app to create a .nomedia file in one or all of your box art directories. .nomedia files huge the folder they are in from gallery apps and the recent page in the file manager.
I used it to make one, deleted the app and have copied it to any other folders as I needed it.

Simplest way, add a .nomedia file to the folder containing the images. That should prevent them from showing up in the gallery. I however can never seem to get it right when doing it manually. I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrck.nomedia
It's a matter of flipping the switch next to the desired folder and they no longer show up. Note that a .nomedia file won't stop your fiance from digging through device folders manually and stumbling on them

Use this app to mark the folders to be excluded from Androids media scanning process. After doing that, any folders you mark will be hidden from the gallery.
I found an easier way. This app lists all the folders detected by the Media Scanner
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrck.nomedia
and has previews when it detects pics.
All you have to do is find the folder that has the Pandora pic (probably com.pandora.android) and turn the nomedia option from off to on.

OP can also ask Google Photos not to backup his WhatsApp Media folder, which is the simpler option.

This will get rid of them.
Try using this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrck.nomedia
The app no media makes this much easier

Everyone is suggesting creating the file but this app does it with some simple button clicks.
I've found an easier way, just download this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrck.nomedia
and turn on the switch for the Whatsapp images folder
