Your phone should have a real proximity sensor ( not a software one ) So i think calibration may fix your problem Here's an easy app to do it : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiledirection.proximitysensorreset Also make sure that the sensor is clean

I don't think it was fixed because of the update, the issue came back, and I kinda know what fixed it.
before I did the update back then I tried an app called
Proximity Sensor Reset/Fix (+Overrider service)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiledirection.proximitysensorreset
incase it gets removed from play store : <MEGA> Proximity Sensor Reset/Fix (+Overrider service)
I think it just happened to be an accident that I used that app, got a new firmware update and I thought it was the new version which fixed it. The reason why I thought the version fixed it was because I deleted the app and I saw there was still no issue. But now I got the issue back, reinstalled the app and the proximity issue is gone again.
The app is for a different purpose I believe, but it just makes the sensor stuck for me and screen doesn't detect changes. Don't know why, don't know how yet.
If you gave it a try please comment back whether it fixed it or not.
Hello guys, I might find a solution for this really bothering problem. Take a hammer and just smash it right to the flashing dot, it will stop.😜
No, but seriously: 1. Go to Google Play and download Proximity sensor reset/fix https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiledirection.proximitysensorreset 2. Follow the instructions given by the app. Basically you will re calibrate your proxy sensor. 3. Restart your phone
Enjoy😉

If not you could try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiledirection.proximitysensorreset
You could also try the app Androsensor yo figure out if it's your screen protector. If it is you may have to remove it to clean the area
I flashed the factory image on my mom's 2 xl and the problem went away. People in the past have had good luck with this app recalibratong the sensor.

For proximity problem, try some tricks that people mentioned here, like using a different launcher or installing a proximity reset app (calibrate the sensor)

Something must be wrong with your proximity sensor. There are some apps that can calibrate it (example), so I'd suggest trying that.
Don't know it will work or not because I haven't used it, but you can try this.

>...LineageOS 15.1 on a Samsung S5 Plus ...I previously recalibrated the sensor but have been unable to do so this time...
How did you do it?
Have you tried the app Proximity Sensor Reset?
A S5 LineageOS user in the reviews says he needs to do it after each reboot but that it works for him otherwise.
From the app's description:
>...also try to keep this App installed because it include a boot launcher auto-re-calibration to re-configure the proximity sensor at device start-up.
Do you have a screen protector covering it? If so make a hole to give it an unobstructed view.
