I've been wondering the same thing for a while now. With all the Argentinian restaurants here in A'dam you would almost think there was some kind of a special connection (e.g. former colonization) between Amsterdam and Argentina, although I'm pretty sure that is not the case...
I found this page about the same topic on trip advisor and the most plausible explanation IMO is what commenter no. 7 says, and I quote:
"There are many Argentinian "restaurants" in Amsterdam quite simply because the steak & chips formula works the best in the big touristic centre Amsterdam is and gets most revenue. If you want to make a money with a small restaurant in Amsterdam without wanting to invest 100 000's of €, you cover your place in goat skin and put a big sign above the door "Argentinian Restaurant."
In short, the Argentinian restaurants seem to be a way to earn some easy money from naive tourists.
What did Tripadvisor or hotels.com give you when you put this in the filters?
Also, from the OP:
>We have no clue about good deals on accommodation, given we live here. It's expensive & there are no secret deals.
Yup. This website is a great one for monitoring the weather. Recently they added the severe alerts/warnings they get from the KNMI. (though I am surprised to see the knmi website show green for now...) This storm should hit from 23:00 - 04:00. https://www.windy.com/cap-alert/52.371/4.904?capAlerts,52.376,-8.240,5
Hi guyse,
I need to rent some decent bikes for a longer bike trip that I wanna take with my gf while visting Amsterdam next weeked. A nice hibryd bike for my gf (1.63 m tall),. and a hibryd/cross/road bike for me (I'm about 1.86 m) Here's the route: https://www.strava.com/local/nl/amsterdam/cycling/routes/364
Anybody can recommend a rental place that would fit the requirements?
L.E.: changed to hibryd instead of touring
L.L.E : got some cool bikes on https://www.spinlister.com/.
Astronomer here! Just thought you guys would like to know. You can buy eclipse glasses online, but here are some other methods to view the eclipse.
Now, what are the odds that it'll actually be clear, eh...
I couldn't find anything of interest that utilizes these letters, but I took the liberty of tracing them as a vector graphic that might help you in your search. Good Luck!
Edit: Forgot to mention you can open this in Adobe Illustrator or its open source counterpart: Inkscape!
Yes, most large car rental places will allow you to pick up in one location/city/country and return in another. Try Sixt, Hertz, Avis, Europcar.
I don't know any non-major agencies with offices in both Amsterdam and Paris, so you may be stuck with these places. Try a comparison site, such as Kayak.
Be aware that driving in the Netherlands is not straight-forward. This is not because of heavy traffic, but some interesting/unique rules. But... the countryside between Amsterdam and Paris is great.
As /u/visvis mentioned: train connections between all these places are very good and you won't have to deal with parking/traffic. Think about an impromptu train ride between the two cities: trains are good and not expensive. You can easily stop in many beautiful places without it costing much more.
Good luck and enjoy the trip!
https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/654/what-is-occupancy-tax--do-i-need-to-collect-or-pay-it
According to this, in some cities including Amsterdam Airbnb collects the occupancy tax and remits it to the city automatically.
From the Airbnb TOS:
"you may not and you agree that you will not [...] use manual or automated Isoftware, devices, scripts, robots, backdoors or other means or processes to access, "scrape," "crawl" or "spider" any web pages or other services contained in the Site".
It would be interesting to see whether legal action against Amsterdam for ignoring such TOS would work.
Songkick is your friend.
It's in the area called De Baarsjes - I used to live across the street from where you're staying :P
Some nice new restaurants sprung up in the area recently! You'll want to rent some bicycles for while you're here, it's a lot easier to get around and about that way.

Our esteemed left-wing city government has decided that the Red Light district does not fit in their vision of the city. So, about half of the windows (hookers) and sex shops/bars/venues and coffeeshops are to go, and be replaced by ateliers and artsy cultural things. Because that's what all the tourists are coming to Amsterdam for, right? source warning: wonky translation
I also found a card once and was able to locate the owner by doing a Google Image Search.
In my case there was an immediate and obvious match. I found contact info for that person, and it turned that she was a friend of the guy who lost the card.
Okay perfect 🙂, yeah it’s really a nice place! to make it a bit easier:

I've never taken the train as it almost always turned out to be about the same price or a little more expensive. On top of that it takes longer, so it's not really a good deal (unless you like riding a train). You can compare prices at https://www.nsinternational.nl/ and https://www.google.com/flights.
Of course keep in mind that the cheaper airlines fly at Gatwick, Stansted and the like, which means a fairly long travel time to the city and some added costs. But I've even found that KLM and BA can be somewhat cheap (30 or 40 euro's more, but you can take checked luggage for no extra fee), which flies you to Heathrow, from where you can take the train to Paddington.
We originally wanted to couchsurf but we didn't plan ahead enough. Now we're looking at the freeland hotel. Never been to amsterdam so we don't know what's good (besides some recommendations in this subreddit).
New Resident with Asthma, looking for an air purifier. I am not sure where to buy on around here and have it delivered. I can buy on amazon, but will end up paying twice the actual cost of the item due to tariffs and such. Thank You!
Ideally I was looking at this one: Rabbit Air MinusA2 Ultra Quiet HEPA Air Purifier - Stylish, Efficient and Energy Star (SPA-700A, White, Odor Remover) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003CT55YW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_OrPmBbHM35F09
Astronomer here! Maximum eclipse is around 10:30am, with 85% of the sun being covered. Please use safe viewing techniques when looking at the sun!
Also for those in the Science Park area, we are arranging a limited solar eclipse viewing at the astronomy dept after 11:00 (as before we are busy with local school children)- allegedly for Science Park faculty, but you're welcome to try your luck with security downstairs if you really want and you're from the outside. :) Eclipse ends at 11:48, so turn up before then!
I'm also going to suggest camping. Camping Vliegenbos is also really nice and right next to a bus stop, bus takes you to central station in under 10 min. Or just rent a bike of course :)
Edit: keep in mind camping outside of designated campsites is illegal and can get you fined.
> Exhibit A
That hotel is not in Amsterdam, but in the neighboring town of Badhoevedorp. And what a god-awful place to stay. Package tourists and confused senior citizens.
> Plus every city has outskirts fool.
I encourage you to spend all your time smoking in your Badhoevedorp hotel's car park, and keep your unpleasant attitude out of Amsterdam.
This is the adapter, the wall socket has 4 holes, may be next to your TV Aux socket
> while I'm there but would really like experience day to day life in the city
So you want to get an office job and commute by bike? Shop at Albert Heijn, complain about tourists on the bike lane?
> and not be like a tourist
Well you want to see the sights right? Experience the nightlife? That's what tourists do buddy.
> I also want to visit other cities whilst I'm there, and see a lot of the architecture.
Have any cities in mind? Have you checked: http://wikitravel.org/en/Netherlands ?
> so if there's anyone that can assist with advice and whatnot
I've heard the hostels are a good place to meet like minded people.
> Is it manageable? Can I easily get around? Is anything even open?
Depends on how bad it is and how good your clothing is. Yes. Yes.
> Will I die because I've never been anywhere so cold?
Probably not.
> Would it be weird to want to have barbecue at some point?
Yes.
Some of my friends are moving to Amsterdam this period and this is what I saw with the latest craziness of the prices of apartments:
You can't find nice apartment in Amsterdam for 1100 eur/month. If you find, you're very lucky. I wouldn't recommend Osdorp area. Altought I lived there for 2 years without any problems, I don't think it is what you're looking for.
Take a look at this map: http://wikitravel.org/upload/shared/c/c1/Amsterdam-unsafety-map.svg
Most Argentinian restaurants in Amsterdam are pretty crappy but there are really good exceptions like La Parrillada near Rembrandtplein. I've been there a couple times in the last months and every time it was amazing.
Try this hairdresser near Newmarkt, it's not in De Pijp by it's the least expensive i could find (18 euros for a haircut) that actually knows how to give a good cut.
Of course, forgive my poor sense of humour.
DeepL however translates it almost correctly (I use Google as little as possible for privacy reasons). Thanks for clarifying the meaning of 'Joenko'!
The Next Web conference is in Amsterdam this week. It's a pretty pricey meet up, but you might still be able to get in by participating in the hackathon or volunteering, which is what I'm doing. Happy to meet up if you're there.
It's basically a game where you go and find "caches" based on a description and GPS locations posted on geocaching.com (there are other caching sites, but that's the biggest). From the site:
"GEOCACHING is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices and then share their experiences online."
It's a good excuse to get out and about, and discover new places that you might otherwise not go to - and some of the more interesting and well hidden caches are great fun to find. There's over a million caches hidden world wide, and there's even one on the International Space Station!
They come in all shapes and sizes, although the most common seems to be 35mm film canisters. Nanocaches are tiny, normally magnetic, and often very hard to find; microcaches are about the size of a 35mm film canister; and normal caches can be anything from a small clip box size to a huge case (although normally they're around as big as a small lunch box). People leave items in the caches sometimes, and there are also things called Travelbugs which are items with a code that want to travel around the world - most of them have some kind of destination they want to get to.
There's more to it, but that's the basics. :)
Where can I find an extension lead like this? I have searched coolblue and bol but I think I am searching with wrong words.
Weeronline or the app and whatever the default weather-app for LG quickcircle cases is. It says powered by accuweather, so I guess that's the source for its data.
You can also buy elastic clips that clip your gloves to the sleeves of your coat. The NOS is a newsagency which provides national news. They are probably the biggest, and unlike the others they are state financed (but not state controlled). They are often said to be quite neutral. Their website is nos.nl but using their app is easier https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.nos.app There is also an iOS app
Their news in in Dutch, but if you can already read 50% than I think it might actually be a great way to learn Dutch.
Yeah man, I went last year, put this same post up and got buried. Apparently people from this subreddit are tired of the same question.
I found better vibes at places a few blocks off the main streets as opposed to businesses right in the center of everything.. a great burger joint, next to a great shawarma joint owned by a cute asian couple. down this little street a few blocks from the center.
and this is the coffee shop I visited a few times. http://goo.gl/maps/WRXYt there even seemed to be a line outside when the google van passed.
Also, I saw swans while on shrooms. no link to that sadly.

And the dirk:
Until 2010, occupying and living in unused buildings (ie. squatting) was legal in the Netherlands (with restrictions, such as it having to be unused for a long period of time).
Squatting and protests helped preserve a lot of the Jordaan and other (now very expensive) historic areas from being demolished. The city would not be what it is today without it. I can't find a source for this at the moment but I saw an exhibit about it at the Amsterdam Center for Architecture a few years ago.
Well then I suggest you add this word to your English vocabulary according to Cambridge university: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/bourse
This ?
No clue if this really would do the trick...
Amsterdam is always taking actions when notified. There are bicycle clean sweeps taking place around the clock. I always use BuitenBeter App to resolve these things and it reports to the local municipalities for the whole of the Netherlands. 😉 For iOS: https://apps.apple.com/nl/app/buitenbeter/id368667432 for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yucat.buitenbeter
What to do with a large dog crate? I'm relocating to Europe this week and will be flying into Schiphol with my large-ish dog, before driving to our new city. He's flying cargo and so I had to get the maximum size dog crate for him. It most likely will not fit in the rental car.
Is there somewhere close to the airport I can leave this massive crate? I don't mind paying to dispose of it. Or on the off-chance, does somebody want a massive crate for moving their dog by air? I really just don't want to leave it and have it be someone else's problem.
It's gotta be a Google glitch. The bus stop for the opposite direction is just a few steps further up that street.
Use the app 9292, and plug in the address Hoeverweg 13, 1934 PK Egmond aan den Hoef. I see trips back to Alkmaar until almost midnight. I think they only go twice an hour, and once an hour after 7:52pm so plan accordingly.
Also, the app [OVinfo])https://play.google.com/store/search?q=ovinfo&c=apps&hl=en&gl=US) will grab your location and give you real time info about the public transport stops near you, especially the next bus/tram/Metro arrival.
> do I need to bring some sort of adapter myself for the different electronic plugs and outlets?
Yes, two things:
For the first part you're probably fine, most adapters are of the "switching" type and they can handle both voltages fine. Your phone and laptop chargers are most likely fine. A shaver might not be.
For the second part, you will need a travel plug converter of some kind. Something like this.
> are there adapters everywhere usually?
Maybe in hotels but I wouldn't count on it, sounds like unnecessary hassle if they don't have it and you can prevent it.
On the Dutch Amazon site there's a black version: https://www.amazon.nl/dp/B08FF5QRJ8?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_S0C8PFT4B2FS8T6JENJ6 (it's on the bottom right. It's in stock, will arrive in two days and costs EUR 26,67.
I had a neighbor once who had a dog that acted like an angel while the neighbor was home. As soon as the neighbor would leave, the dog would bark NON-STOP until she returned. Every. Single. Time.
I never complained to the neighbor, although I felt really bad for the dog. Some dogs get separation anxiety when their humans are not home, and this may be the case with your dog.
There’s this thing called the Thundershirt that is supposed to help dogs with anxiety. It’s basically a weighted vest and is supposed to work like a weighted blanket.
https://www.chewy.com/thundershirt-classic-anxiety-calming/dp/41101?
I recommend the SIMSEN dehumidifier, it works great in my small room. Of course I bought it on Amazon.
De Zotte is rather small, pretty hard to get a table with a group. You could also go to Cafe Gollem on the Overtoom, a belgian beer cafe that's a bit bigger (and closer by).
A typical Dutch restaurant that's pretty close is Hap Hmm, just make sure to be early as you can't make a reservation and the kitchen closes at 20.00 (old school Dutch dining times).
Alright, here's the nicer/upscale one: Hotel De Goudfazant. Not a hotel. Interesting setting (a converted garage -- with cars). Somewhat challenging-to-find location. Excellent food. Good service. You'll want to return here again and again.
Location: Take a taxi, but make sure the driver knows where it is. Expect to pay about €15.
Otherwise, take the ferry to Buiksloterweg. Across the water, catch Bus 38, direction Elzenhagen Noord. Hamerstraat Stop. Walk back a bit to Schaafstraat. Continue walking when it turns into Aambeeldstraat. You'll soon see a small port (Ponthaven) in which several ferries are moored. Pass it on the left-hand side and walk on to the restaurant. (Mind you, the last bus leaves Buiksloterweg at 8:11pm. Catch a taxi back).
For everyone, even in apartment blocks of which there are not many, the trash still goes out in to the rubbish bins on the street. In all areas there are multiple bins on the street for General Waste, Plastic, Glass & Paper, these are collected by different companies. The bins looks like this.
Nice photo! Please consider donating it to unsplash.com. People can download royalty free photo's over there. I am donating my photos (when they are nice) too.
Mooie foto! Misschien leuk om deze foto beschikbaar te stellen op unsplash.com. Dit is een beeldbank waar je gratis foto's mag downloaden voor eigen maar ook commercieel gebruik.
I have a US AppleTV 4K in NL. Netflix and Disney+ work fine, assuming you have an active subscription. I recently started using Hulu which requires changing DNS settings and having a VPN (I use ExpressVPN). However, when I change my DNS settings for Hulu, it breaks Netflix, so it's a bit of a dance between manual and automatic DNS, but it's still nice to be able to use Hulu.

Forgive me, since I know absolutely nothing about this, but do these paper cards work? At €5 the price is right and they appear to be reusable. Although if they are unreliable I can see not wanting to risk your buddies.

It's not completely clear what you are looking for, agreed - check out our wiki. But if you're into treasure hunts check out geo caching (based on your link)

Is being near a coffee shop an absolute requirement? It's easy enough to get around Amsterdam so I wouldn't worry about this too much.
Hostel wise there's http://www.bobsyouthhostel.nl/ but per TripAdvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g188590-d238577-Reviews-Bob_s_Youth_Hostel-Amsterdam_North_Holland_Province.html) it seems to have mixed reviews.
The project is build by/for developers so it's not very easy to set up yourself.
Install NodeJS: https://nodejs.org/en/download/
Download the source code from github. You can either use git
if you know what that is, or just download a zip file. There's a green download button on the right hand side of OP's link.
Open some sort of terminal (cmd.exe on windows, terminal app on mac) in the directory that you placed the source code.

Hi!
Welcome to Amsterdam.
So Sloterdjik is a bit outside Amsterdam. If you want to find food/groceries you can go to the Lidl(S. Burgerhartstraat 80).
About the Iamsterdam card. I have once bought it for a friend who was visiting. So I just put her name in billing address but paid for it through my bank account so it worked. I am not sure when you buy multiple cards.
Amsterdam is a really friendly city. But also depends on what you are looking for. Most of the center is packed with tourists. So they go and do their own thing. I would say the best bet to meet new people would be to just go to a meetup from meetup.com. Or search or Couchsurfing( I have used this when I traveled and met a lot of other cool travelers). Hope this helps. And sorry for my bad English (Not a native speaker). And please pm if you want to know more about the city or still looking for a friend/adventure buddy.
Enjoy your stay. x
I think the product youve bought isnt actually Dutch and reason I say this is because all measurements here are metric and teaspoon, tbsp etc is more of a US cooking measurement. Ive found them on amazon.co.uk and they offer shipping to the US. Good luck!
I know in London, I have been looking for live/work places, usually around £700, which forgo modern conveniences such as windows, plastered walls and are often not an ideal home, and are more like a music rehearsal room than a house.
But from what I understand, homes in the Netherlands have to be 'fit for human habitation'. Does this means these kind of homes aren't available? The only similar thing is student accommodation, and finding something which is casual enough, and being able to still register with the Gemeente is very difficult.
So what would you recommend for someone who wants a big communal work space, lots of creative people around, and to be 30 minutes away from town. I feel like I'm trying to get the impossible, but I've seen this kind of place in London.
Edit:
An example of the kind of place I am looking for: https://www.gumtree.com/p/property-to-share/large-warehouse-room-for-musician/
I can very highly recommend looking into geocaching- there are dozens in the city center alone, and I got into it because I wanted to feel like a tourist in my own city a bit more often. You can download the app onto your smartphone to get started- have fun!
(As an idea of a few that are around town, I've found some under bridges that required a boat rental, after a tour of the Jordaan to get required info, all over the Vondelpark... lots of good ones in Amsterdam!)
For good cheap meals in Amsterdam I can highly recommend Toscana on Haarlemstraat, near the Centraal Station. Good cheap pizza for 7-9 euros, lots of other Italian food on the menu. The place is popular so get there early to get a table. We ate there after 8pm on a Sunday night and had no trouble getting a table, but on a Friday night it's more crowded. We liked it so much we had dinner there 3 nights!
Also Cafe de Oude Wester is another jem in Amsterdam. It's an old Brown Cafe and has wonderful food and good beer. We had lunch there twice and would go back again.
Ah, it won't be that bad then. According to this website, cost of living is 38% higher in London compared to Amsterdam. I really have no idea whether that takes salaries into account, and if it doesn't, whether that would make a difference.
There is a new crop of backup software that introduces an entirely new concept for backups, namely "snapshot backups". Not all of them call it the same.
The old backup concept is of "fulls" and "partials". A full backup is a backup of your entire backup set (=the set of files you decided are worthy of backup) and a partial is a backup of everything that changed since the previous backup.
The new "snapshot" concept is that each backup looks like a full backup, but in actuality it is just a snapshot of what you have in your backup set, with some files (those that changed in the meantime) are actually new while others (which haven't changed) are references to previous snapshots.
The upshot of this concept is that you treat each snapshot as a frozen moment in time, which holds a version of your files from that moment. You can walk backwards in time and get your file from backup from before it was corrupted. Traditionally you would have had to go to your recent "full" backup, then apply more and more "partial" backups until you find the one that has your corrupt file, and then do it again except for the last "partial". With the new concept you can run a comparison between the snapshots focusing on that file until you find the last time it was changed, and then just grab it.
The implementations of it can retrieve different versions of your files quickly, even from on-line backups.
Software that implements the new concept is restic, duplicati and a few others.
I'm a bit late to the party, but I'd like to recommend eBuddy as an IT employer as well. They're usually hiring ops as well as developers for all sorts of platforms. They have an amazing office in the center of Amsterdam on Keizersgracht.
Here, I found a book you might be interested in:
Switzerland is like the Netherlands part of the EU digital Corona Certificate. So the Swiss QR Code works here as well.
I don't know how the Swiss app works, but in the Netherlands you have to select international QR code if you're somewhere else in Europe. So check if you have that option.
This is the Dutch QR code scanner:

Install it on another phone and scan your QR code and see if it works
One thing no one has said yet; ENJOY IT!
It's a small, flat city with cycle paths; it's SO easy to cycle here. It's a country built to cycle! So have fun! You'll only be yelled for making a mistake in the first few, or by idiots going too fast, so don't worry about that.
In the city of bikes is a great history of cycling in Amsterdam. Not useful, but interesting.
Hi! So I've been looking for a good financial planning notebook (like this one) everywhere in Rotterdam, but I couldn't find any. Google yields no results. I'm visiting Amsterdam tomorrow so I thought it might be possible to find one there. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'd really appreciate it! Thank you in advance :D

It's a general problem. You can help speed up the process to get the bin working again by letting the gemeente know the bin is jammed. Either through an online form or by using an app like Verbeter de buurt.
From my experience (my place + 2 friends' place) the Ziggo box wifi is quite bad. You can fix this by installing a wifi router in front of it and configure it in bridge/access point mode.
My friends bought this one https://www.amazon.nl/dp/B07GVR9TG7 which worked much better and didn't break the bank. Worst case, you install it, you see it doesn't fix your issue, you have 2 weeks to send it back and get your money back. Ymmv though.
I have the same service and with a wired cat5e cable to my laptop it get 450/40Mbps. Some of work was needed on the cable connection and I recommend not having ANY additional cable (max 1.5m) between your wiring closet and the modem. They can see the quality of the cable side when you call.. Ziggo do offer options for mesh wifi that seem to have good results for others. I will be cabling and installing a wifi AP from Ubiquiti (nano HD). More generally, there are two vendors supplying cable modems to Ziggo, Arris and Compal. Compal seem to have quite some issues and is said to be less desirable than the Arris model. That said, no modem will do wifi well with lots of interference from neighbouring wifi routers. Try checking the spectrum with an android phone and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vrem.wifianalyzer
The local app with by far the best directions is the Fietserbond Routeplanner app. The UI is terrible, and I think it's only available in Dutch, but the directions are the best. Even if you just use them to get an idea of the "correct" route before ultimately using Google Maps bicycle directions.
You can buy them at amazon.de
Hello Amsterdam, this is might be a cool phone wallpaper for the community, hope you'll like it! Made with Sphaera for Android which is currently on sale
After losing my umbrella to a wind gust I just Googled "strongest umbrellas" and got one off Amazon for $20. There were some more expensive ones, but this had stellar reviews and has held up very well through some strong wind. Just be aware there are different diameters, so make sure you don't get a tiny one (unless that's what you're going for) :)
In addition: for the daily news for online repeats
Sometimes you need to have a Dutch IP address in order to watch a programme online. I recommend setting up a proxy in that case -- works perfect for me. If you have Firefox try FoxyProxy and just google "dutch proxy server" or something like that.
https://www.amazon.com/Yescom-Portable-Electric-Clothing-Wardrobe/dp/B01KZBI2LW/ seems available in Amazon US
The only good gamestore that I have found so far is friends and foes for board games, would probably be the best place to get playing cards to play with: http://friendsfoes.nl/ (now if you just want cool backs, tourist areas would be the place) (that being said these are high quality cards to play with: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RQ0O9Y/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )
Hi lunarhighs. It looks like you're new to /r/Amsterdam. We ask that tourists and people moving to Amsterdam post in our weekly Q&A thread. Hi guys,
I am trying to get a new shower screen seals to replace ageing ones on the glass door on my shower but so far haven't found it on any of the usual websites. I could find some easily on the amazon UK website though ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shower-screen-seal-Glass-thickness/dp/B00BAUQYRM) but will love to buy it locally.

Hello, I moved to Amsterdam a few days ago I need to find shops that sell mobile phone accessories like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Camera-iPhone-Smartphones-Telescope-Fisheye/dp/B01F6JD1W8?ie=UTF8
I couldn't find anything in the Wiki and Google Maps isn't helping. Thanks.
Can you ziggo take this cable and transform it into an AOP? There is no separate red and green cable though. Just this one. Or can I do this? What is usually plugged into these? photos.demandstudios.com/getty/
edit: maybe I can use something like this? Coaxial Network Adapter
Probably not - most small electronics have converters with a 100-240v range, but anything with a motor (mixer, sewing machine, etc) typically does not.
FYI OP: I ordered these from Amazon before moving and they have been great. I went through all of my electronics and inventoried what did and did not work with 230v. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038MO3GE http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GHGOAC
You actually don't need to carry the debit card most of the time, since there's an app for that! Many banks these days like ABN Amro have an app to emulate the card. Same goes for all the bonus cards like Albert Heijn. Just saved them into Stocard app. Works pretty well :) Looking forward to have OV card inside some app some day to get rid of the wallet :)
