Someone on nextdoor posted about a plant thief in the birchwood area last week. I think I saw a comment about a person who is notorious for this.
I rode to work everyday along James north if sunset square and Bakerview to meridian. The bike lanes/shoulders are regularly covered with detritus. I've taken to reporting it on the See, Click, Fix app. The city pays attention and regularly responds with actual seeing if the area I mark within a day or two. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.seeclickfix.ma.android
I don't know the iphone link
In response to u/sportsman's correction that I could have been helpful rather than needy. I am therefore posting the link to said service as it relates to Bellingham.

There's also a company called grubhub that I enjoy because it lets you use ApplePay. I rather use ApplePay for security reasons.
Here is a link to them.
Slip on cleats like these have worked really well for me through the years. Really gives me confidence when walking on ice.
If you want people to actually help you with this, you will get a much better turn out if you create an online survey that people can easily fill out anonymously. (Especially since you are asking for personal information such as income ranges, etc). https://www.surveymonkey.com/ might work for you.
One of my old coworkers has a small family business selling soaps and honey and other various things. The honey is some of the best I've ever had and they just keep making better and better soaps. I've gotten their gift basket the last few years and split it up to send to family members outside the state. Here's their info:

I looked at May for the first year of each decade:
1950: High 72. Avg:59
1960:High 76. Avg:60
1970 High:75. Avg 62
1980: High 73. AVG 60
1990: High 73. Avg: 61
2000: High: 70. Avg. 59
2010 : High 72 Avg: 60

We have to remember that climate change is a matter of a couple of degrees over a century, so I'm wary anytime someone shows me the weather and then implies climate. Scrolling back the last few years, it's hit 80+ the last 4 years and the average was ~65+. So yes, late 2010's May in Bellingham looks to have been warmer than average, but the first half of the decade was colder than average. What we are experiencing right now seems to be very typical for late May. Long term? I'll leave that to the experts, but I suspect it might be a bit warmer.
Windy has been interesting to watch. They don't have a smoke layer but I think the Air Quality > Aerosol layer is able to track the smoke.
The city no longer owns the dark fiber it laid in the past. They sold it to the guy who started Black Rock Cable which was recently purchased by WaveDivision hopefully this means we will see some more competition for ISPs going forward.
I know you asked for local, but if you do not have any luck these KN95's have one day shipping if you are a Prime member and they are quite comfortable:

The city bus is an option. It will be US$2 and will take about an hour, including a 15 minute walk at the end. Here is a link to a Google Map with the route and you can use the 'schedule explorer' to see what other times and connections might work.
A website I often use when figuring out what options are out there is Rome to Rio.
The Nooksack river. Go out the Mt Baker Highway past Deming til you get to the Everybody's Store. You can park there and walk up the road to put in the river. There's a spot a few miles down you can park a second car but I forget how to get there exactly.
https://maps.google.com/?q=mt+baker+highway+everybody%27s+store
Unless the people responding are presently using multiple carriers, they won’t know anything other than there current provider’s experience.

You can get a two way radio and program it to listen to the local emergency services. Please spend some time learning about HAM radio, and how to use your device. You need a license to broadcast legally...
if you're really curious, you can get a Software-Defined Radio kit, basically a USB dongle that you can plug in to a computer. It lets you visually explore the radio landscape on a PC.
THis is getting some buzz on Slickdeals, might be a deal for you, no Sears in town though but if you have a car you could drive down south, people at SD talking bout buying one tire per order.
Craigslist is hit or miss because the actually good deals go so fast you'll miss them. One thing that can help mitigate this is to setup IFTTT to send you an email/whatever when a new item of interest is posted.
If you're in school at Western I'd recommend using their gym facilities or look to try and join and intramural sport team. Western also has a lot of clubs if you're not into physical activity. Naturewise - There's the arboretum behind the school, locust beach, whatcom falls park, and larrabee state park. Alternatively, Bellingham is a great town for live music. Some of my favorite times in that town have come from watching people playing house shows in garages, basements, and cleared out living rooms. Most of the venue shows are gonna be 21+ but Western hosts some really cool shows as well. The Underground Coffee house has some cool performances and activities. Keep an eye out for annual bellingham events... They're usually season related ("Downtown Sounds" "Ski-to-Sea", thriller dance parade on halloween) There used to be a lowkey circus that happened once-a-month. There's an alternative library, and a bunch of other ones. Learn to Disc Golf! or play Horseshoes at Cornwall Park. They also LARP there. Ryan Stiles owns a comedy club downtown. You mentioned movies, but there are some great alternative film places you might not have explored downtown as well.
Shoot.
> A 30 percent chance of rain after 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 46. Southwest wind 7 to 11 mph.
With a forecast like that, and a satellite image like this, views might be less than spectacular.
I'll be snoozing soundly in bed. I've seen a pretty killer lunar eclipse before, though.. I recommend it highly for others to see it, if given the chance.
Check out Meetup.com (or download the app). More and more Bellinghamsters are creating local groups. There is one for singles already but the age range is very broad and they do meet at bars sometimes, so creating a new one yourself for "dry" meet-ups for young 20's would be a great idea I'd think.
beware that Oyster Dome is a major hike. It doesn't seem that long, but the elevation gain is brutal. Allot at least 4-5 hours round-trip.
that's if you start from Chuckanut drive though. Apparently there's a way to start on the back-side that's much shorter: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/washington/oyster-dome-trail
For those of you who are out of the loop, 80s Night is a major institution in Bellingham. It began at the 3B (RIP). Then it moved to the Nightlight (RIP). When the Nightlight closed, the crowd split into three factions. Some went to the Royal, some went to Rumors, and some lost souls went to Downtown Johnny's (RIP). At each of these venues, it never felt quite complete. But change is in the air...
The original 80s Night DJs, DJ Kommodore and DJ Special K, have been signed on to carry the torch at The Shakedown. This is huge news. These guys blow the paint off the walls. It will be such a good time.
If you are one of those former 80s Night refugees who has been waiting patiently for the triumphant return of fun Thursday nights in Bellingham, our wait has ended; you have no excuse not to be there. If you're one of those who has been attending 80s Night at Rumors or the Royal, you really don't know what you've been missing; you have no excuse not to be there. If you've heard about 80s night and thought it might be fun to check it out, this is your chance; you have no excuse not to be there. If you think you hate to dance and you don't care about 80s music, you are wrong; you have no excuse not to be there. Seriously. Just go check it out. I used to hate dancing. It turns out I just didn't know the right people to dance with. These are the right people. It's so great. See you there.
I grabbed the Fat Shark V5 which is about $240 on amazon. This is pricey but they will last and they came with a camera and transmitter/receiver combo. I have found a few other styles of goggles for around the 150-200 range but they are just goggles no camera. https://www.amazon.com/FatShark-Teleporter-Transmitter-Fat-Shark/dp/B01BWO29PQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1492344536&sr=8-3&keywords=fatshark
Just a note, my roommate who works at Lowe's said they are sold out of them.
You can also buy a 10-pack off Amazon for $15.
>More ADUs would likely lower the price of AirBnBs which could cause some property owners to rent them out to long-term tenants instead.
Have you read a study indicating that your hypothesis has become reality elsewhere?
Based on this link there are approximately 243 Air BnB's. I don't think the city has any numbers on how often they have tenants, so we have no idea how succesfull they are.
I think it is hard to know what will happen. I could be wrong, but I don't think the city has done an awful lot of legwork to investigate comparable cities, and their experiences with ADUs in terms of housing prices after the fact. The Herald's comparison to Santa Cruz did not provide any conclusions, and I don't know if a city so close to Silicone Valley is a good comparison just based on the larger amount of money there likely is there.
Has there been an audit of how many ADU's there already are? Does the city know how many will likely be built with this decision? It just seems like there is a lot of unknown's based on what I've read, and not hardly any actual projections no matter how informed or not.

Pretty close to the daily observations from BLI recordings on wunderground: https://www.wunderground.com/history/monthly/us/wa/bellingham/KBLI/date/2021-11
Clearly we are going to be over 14 inches (monthly total) today and are fast approaching a new all time precipitation record.
>It would basically mean that anyone under 21 could be punishable by DUI if they had smoked in the previous MONTH! THC stays in your system for about that long, combine that with a 0-tolerance policy, and you're going to have a lot of kids getting arrested for DUI, which is far worse than a misdemeanor possession charge.
You are clearly very uneducated about this topic. Please read up on before you are spreading lies.
Here are some facts from scientific studies:
>OraLine on-site test was positive for THC for 2 h following drug intake with THC concentrations decreasing from 196 to 16 ng/mL, while the test remained positive for 1.5 h for the second subject (THC concentrations ranging from 199 to 11 ng/mL).
Source: http://www.angelscope.co.uk/downloads/instruction_sheets/Oraline_Further_Info.pdf
The went down over a 1000% in 2 hours. At that rate, by 3 hours it would be undetectable.
Read up here for more info: http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&q=thc+saliva&btnG=&as_sdt=1%2C48&as_sdtp=
And please, please stop spreading lies and misinformation. Just because you heard it from someone else, doesn't mean its true. Take the time to look up the actual scientific studies.
I wanted to provided everyone with a good resource for nuisance animals. The Washington State Fish and Wildlife website addresses nuisance animals specifically. Something I learned while researching the website was only licensed trappers are allowed to trap and relocate the animal.
Our local trapper is Gary Dahl and his number is (360) 410-7905.

Hello, We’ve been missing our tuxedo cat, Hanuman, since Sunday. He was last seen at our home on Wildflower Way by our house sitter. He’s a small cat (9 lbs), black with white paws and chest. He’s very shy of strangers and skittish outdoors. If he’s around out there, he’s likely to be hiding. We ask that anyone who sees this message please take a look wherever a lost cat could be hiding: under porches, in sheds and garages, in bushes, etc. He was let out by mistake by our house sitter. We are devastated and pray for his safe return. Please spread the word to help us find him or learn what might have happened to him if he’s no longer here. Any news, even sad news, is welcome. Thank you. Call me (Liza) at 253 212 7760
You can check out the old air force base in Birch Bay. It used to house a radar squadron and has a large cement building. Now it's a park that you can drive to. I've only quickly drove through the park and left, so I'm not sure how good of a filming location it would be for your purposes.
If you are on Nextdoor.com look for the thread about this topic (search Whatcom Water). A commissioner for the Water District, Todd Citron, posted a very lengthy explanation as to how water rates are determined. The thread may only show up if you're connected to the Sudden Valley/Geneva/Alabama Hill/Silver Beach neighborhoods of nextdoor.com. He's lived here for over 30 years and has been a commissioner for the water district for 20 yrs so has the in depth and historical perspective to answer this question about why water rates are so high.
I saw that someone in the Geneva area (1209 Euclid) posted on Nextdoor about a found gray kitty--not sure if you can see this link: https://nextdoor.com/news_feed/?post=88555502
I'm interested to try their popcorn. In my testing real butter actually makes the kernels too soggy. Maybe I'll have to give real butter another go.
that's the CPU power connector.
looking at the Amazon listing for your PSU here: https://www.amazon.com/Supply-Bronze-Modular-GAMEMAX-GM-700/dp/B089YTQSYR
it's the yellow one "12v (4+4) Pin"
if that's the one you're saying isn't long enough, then you might have a problem.
If you don't plug it in, you'll probably be able to turn the computer on, but it won't be very stable, may very well crash if you try to do any gaming, and could (but probably won't) damage the motherboard
if that's the cable that's too short your best bet is probably to buy a replacement like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Supply-Bronze-Modular-GAMEMAX-GM-700/dp/B089YTQSYR
I keep a pack of these in my car for just such an occasion. Slip it under their windshield. If we don't let people know this isn't acceptable, we're at least somewhat responsible.
I bought one of these insulated food container and use it as a poop vault for storing the bagged poo until I come across a garbage can or get home. So nice to be able to finish our walk odor-free.
I bought these for my kids. (I've seen them at Wee Runs reruns for cheap). Boots, gloves, hat and let them run amok outside. https://www.amazon.com/Tuffo-Unisex-Muddy-Coverall-Months/dp/B009DKU6XY?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I would highly recommend reading either A New Earth or The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle; both which deal with mindfulness and will prepare you for becoming comfortable and aware of being in the “present moment” at any time, whether through breathing or walking or anywhere else. You can find them at the library. Personally, I read them and then bought the audio books which I play regularly for reminders and reflections.

I have a room that could be a great landing site for you. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/22401707?preview_for_ml I have it on AirBnb now but would simply delist it if you choose to live here. How long a lease are you looking for? I could rent this one month to month for $650, with utilities included. I do have another room, also on AirBnB, so the third person(s) are more short term. I just moved to Bellingham myself. Like you I enjoy fitness as it's one of my main sources of being outgoing. Unfortunately during the winter my main interests outdoors all but dry up....So it's important to find alternatives before you end up depressed and unhappy quickly. Being involved in fitness classes is always a good idea....So places like the YMCA and Fitness Evolution for example have classes where you can have focused activities with others.
Other places like Meetup.com are a gateway to finding shared activities with like minded people. Have you considered venturing as far as Vancouver Canada maybe to open up your network?
I struggle as well to find people of like minded interests as I do; but that's because I like really unique things that have small interest numbers. Either you go far to find them or you create groups here if you can find the resources.

Depending on what kind of Sodastream you get, there are a variety of adapters that you can connect to the 20# and 5# Co2 tanks. And you can get those tanks refilled (exchanged actually, like for propane for a grill) at Linde Welding gas on Ohio St. (Used to be Praxair) or Central Welding Supply across I5 from the airport. When I converted mine, I bought the hose with adapters and the 20# tank for around $150 or less. Since early 2020, I've exchanged that tank 5 times for $30 each time.
We just recently had to replace the sodastream itself and so I needed a new adapter. If you got one of the new-fangled Terra machines (where the bottle doesn't screw in but just slides in), you'll need this adapater on the end of the hose you attach to the co2 tank. If you've got one of the screw on ones, it's super easy to find on Amazon people have been making them for years and years.
As for re-filling the small bottles from your 20# tank, that seems to be a harder route to follow. Sodastream makes it hard. Never seemed worth traveling down that road for me. Just connect the big tank to your sodastream direct.
Shameless self-plug, but I am going for it. I'm a local author and my latest is called Murmurations, available in paperback, ebook or audiobook. It's set in "Billington" (LOL, guess where that actually is) and it's getting lots of 5-star reviews and it's a hopeful read, even though the jacket copy below may seem otherwise. I hope some of you might give it a try?

When a biological weapon decimates the population, Julie feels . . . relieved.
To her, the apocalypse doesn’t seem any more dangerous than navigating
the world before, when she spent all her energy trying to avoid the
treachery of human beings. Years of abuse have left her broken in some
way, unable to trust. The dangers of the new world force her to
barricade herself in the safety of her house, which also feels familiar,
since she’s been doing the emotional equivalent for years. Alone with
her dog and the murmurations—an inexplicable phenomenon that’s been with
her as long as she can remember—Julie gets by as she always has,
through a combination of luck and grit. But when her solitude is
shattered by the arrival of strangers, Julie is forced to decide if she
wants to live rather than just survive, and whether it’s too late to
unearth her humanity now that most of humanity is gone.
You will grow more used to it overtime!

you can disagree, but doesn't mean youre right. The person below does a fantastic job.
I highly, highly, highly encourage you to maybe spend some time studying.. sociology, or the study of group behaviors and interactions. There are a multitude of books/classes specifically on racism and discrimination.
Youre comments are also text book racism, you are minimizing the issue and your "both sides" argument is fucking dangerous.
White people across the majority of the globe, and especially in the USA have had nothing but advantages over PoC and there is no equivalent here in the states You're "white n word" shit is just what?
Sorry buddy but there has never been a slur against white people that is remotely equal to the n-word or other racial slurs against PoC.
Go read Racism without Racists by Edward Bonilla-Silva https://www.amazon.com/Racism-without-Racists-Color-Blind-Persistence/dp/1442202181

Rack thieves used to be a big problem in Denver, and I haven't heard of it happening in Bham...yet.
I'd highly recommend everyone get a dashcam (ideally with parking mode). They are fairly cheap and easy to install. We could ID some frequent thieves even if it doesn't immediately stop the problem. I've been in a lot where other cars got broken into, but mine didn't, even though I have a radar detector in plain sight. Maybe they were spooked by the dashcam? Or maybe just lucky.

There are also direct spray on products you can buy at Lowes and Home Depot that are safe to use on upholstery.
I'd recommend looking at apps to find something you like. With the AllTrails app (or you can go straight to their website), you can sort by location, hike length, difficulty, ratings, route type, etc etc. Washington Trails Association also has an app (WTA Trailblazer) and also has a hike-finder map on their website. Usually I kinda use a combo: AllTrails to find the type of hike I want, and WTA to look for current reviews/conditions. Good luck!

That's a little more difficult, I admit! I traveled the service road for the first 10mi or so, camped out, when I returned the next day I found all the PNWT signs leading me down the correct paths (didn't find one of them the day before!). This is all to be expected if you go for hikes on the PNWT, I suggest the maps from pnt.org, but they're by no means perfect and I suggest a good offline map app (such as Osmand) to make sure you make it back. Many of the off service road trails I took (the actual PNWT trails) are not well maintained, but the serenity of being able to get away was more than I needed to get me to go back next year. The honest real downside of these trails are this area was a seriously logged and abused area at some point so there are definitely some depressing parts (but the views of other areas help make up for it). I'm happy to share the gpx of my travels that day, if that's your thing.

Mount Baker is always beautiful, in my opinion. I don't think our winters are so terrible, but the shorter length of days might be a problem. I don't have any experience hiking around here in the winter, since I only have a van and don't really want to try to get up a snowy forest road to get to the good trails. There's tons of lower-elevation trails to try. I'm just not familiar with them (I've become an altitude junkie--I love those up-high views of everything). You should look around AllTrails. I'm sure you could find something there to try out when you're here. You can easily look at the reviews and see the experiences people have had on those trails in the winter. A very popular trail is Heliotrope Ridge. That one brings you right up against Baker, where you can see (and even hear) a big glacier on it. That would be amazing to see in the winter. Its AllTrails page says that during the winter, the road leading to the trailhead MAY be closed. So, who knows? Maybe it'll be a mild winter and the road will still be open when you're here. It would definitely be worth checking. You'd want microspikes and poles, though, as it gets icy and wet on that trail.
If you want to see both Vancouver and Seattle, then I'd say Bellingham is a good midway point. Baker does look very beautiful from our city. I did a hike recently that gave some really nice views of Baker, but that was this past summer. I imagine it would be dangerous in the winter. It would also be tricky to drive up to the trailheads. You'd have to have a pretty capable vehicle. One trail I went on this summer was Hidden Lake Lookout. That's my favorite one so far, but it's really dangerous in the snow. One woman went missing last month, and rescue crews were having trouble finding her because of the snow. Even they gave up looking when the conditions weren't good. (She's presumed dead, by the way.) So I wouldn't recommend hiking in any high elevations during the winter.
Do you have any particular reason why you want to go to Vancouver? I've been there a couple times and find it kind of dingy looking. But maybe there are some hidden gems to see there. You might want to consider Victoria instead. That's a very pretty place.
Obviously Seattle is awesome and worth a trip, and I want to hike around Rainier sometime, too.
So you'll technically be able to "see" these mountains on a winter trip, but you can't really hike around them unless you're an expert mountaineer. Hiking around here really is amazing, though. I'd just recommend doing it closer to summertime.
Weird, there is an aurora season: http://wikitravel.org/en/Northern_Lights >What time of the year
>On a yearly basis, the Lights are at their peak in September and March. The reasons for this trend are due to the March and September equinox.
I truly feel for you here. Housing is tough in this town under regular circumstances. I don't have a lot to offer you as you have clearly done your homework.
It's too soon to be looking for a room in a shared home right now, come May there will likely be rooms available on Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. You deff need to try and wow the person with your first email, it's annoying but it's like writing a cover letter and applying to jobs. Luckily you seem smart, together and present well.
I see that you need a place for June, I don't know how long this whole virus mess will last. But I do I know a lot of people who run air b&bs are scrambling. You could try reaching out to people via message on vacation rental sites to see if they are interested in renting month to month short term? I saw thisthis post recently. It may not be around when you need it, but maybe you can find something similar.
Considering how you are feeling, I imagine that you are not going out anyway. If you live with people, I hope they are isolating too. That said, I assume you're not in that much of a hurry since, if you have covid, you're gonna do what you're already doing right?
That said, Amazon has a number of at-home PCR tests. I haven't used any, and wonder if any of the ones you are supposed to do totally at home are approved or real. But others on this board have mentioned this one which you register and then UPS back. Isolated as you are, you might have to ask someone to come grab it from you and send it back, but it's an option. And I hear the turn around is fast.
Good luck and feel better. Eat some chicken soup.
I'm guessing it was this since it's Amazon's branded.
If you are wondering why your ad was removed, under the Prohibited category, it lists pet sales as a prohibited category.
It does say "re-homing with small adoption fee ok" but $500 is definitely not a "small adoption fee" IMO. Especially for a dog that isn't listed as being fixed.
There's a beach we called "Ghetto Beach", which is really pretty nice for bonfires. Lots of driftwood available, not many people to complain.
You can park up by BTC and walk down the trail, or at the end of Seaview, there is a parking lot, but I think they may close it after dark.
Ok, let's see what the OED has to say:
>The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

yup, same fucking thing.
> A VERY bright flashlight (a human trying to sound technical would call it a torch) WITH an easy to cycle to strobe feature.
I would highly recommend the Streamlight protac 2l-x or the HLX
The difference is 500 lumens, but personally I find the first one to be just fine for my uses.
You’re right, things look grim. I just saw their storefront a couple weeks ago and called this number and it worked. That’s their current address too: https://www.mapquest.com/us/washington/washington-divers-12614169
I know the owner died a few years ago and the few reviews I saw a few minutes ago don’t look great. Also kind of odd from a marketing perspective that a website can’t be found and their FB page is out of date too.

No problem. The company I work for is also hiring for a number of open positions, and many of them are open to remote candidates.

Please define 'sick'? I have eaten them fresh and dried. I think learning to tolerate certain levels of toxicity in your system is an acquired ability. I answered in another comment but it's this one
I got the kit to wire it to the fuse box so it's always recording, otherwise it only records when the car is on. And I got a memory card as well.
It was really easy to get the videos, I just put the card in my laptop and all the files were right there, didn't have to do any extra crap.
I got a memory card for it as well as the kit to wire it to your fuse box. If you don't get the kit then it only records when your car is on, which is great for when you're in an accident but if someone breaks into your car or hits it while you're parked it won't record it.
When I suspected mold in the wall between my bathroom and my bedroom, I bought this scope and it worked great. Drilled a hole in the wall, stuck it in and saw the spore party taking place inside the wall space. My biggest concern with your post is that the outlets aren't working. That seems super sketchy.

I've used pros and this is a pretty easy DIY solution that I get great results with. Just an option. We've used Andy at FE at Farmers Market prior but he's only there a few days a year.

Not to bash someone with a side hustle but you’ve posted this 4 times in the last 90 days and can be found on Amazon. I get someone’s doesn’t want to spend $70 on 50 tiles but getting people to think op is the creator by just posting stuff like this is pretty wack. You can do what you want but I don’t wanna see this subreddit turn into a place people try to hustle each other.
If everyone would just download the damn contact tracing app and use it we wouldn't need threads like this.

I highly recommend grabbing a star map app for your phone. Just point your phone at a star (or constellation) to find out what it is.

I ran into the same issue with my gaming console being wireless and not always reliable. I purchased something like this and have never had an issue since. It allows you to "hardwire" something in another room away from your router. So you will run ethernet from out of your router to this plugged in the wall, then in another room, you plug in the second one and run ethernet to your device.
ha, I just watched Das Lieben der Anderen. What an amazing film
And yep, reporting large indoor gatherings of people which will increase community spread during a respiratory pandemic is definitely really similar to the east german secret police surveillance activity.
I met a guy doing research on Catherine Montgomery at Western like 6-7 years ago. He ended up turning that article into part of a book, but here's an excerpt: https://www.pcta.org/2017/mother-pacific-crest-trail-catherine-montgomery-48060/
He also has a book about the PCT out just recently: https://www.amazon.com/Journeys-North-Pacific-Crest-Trail/dp/1680513214
