People with a lot of privileges (white, male, straight being some of the biggest) are the least comfortable being labeled by anyone in any way, because they are not used to not being the default for everything…and getting a label means no longer being the default.

It's an entitled reaction borne from a highly privileged life. And to try and break through those misconceptions and misunderstandings, I wrote this piece about what being cis means to me. Because I think normalizing the term and informing people about it in non-accusatory contexts (i.e. without being angry and/or dismissing someone for being "a white cis het male") is useful.
