You have to wait until the day you want to start giving up, wake up in the morning, slap it on your arm and leave it on all day but take it off at the end of the day when you go to sleep, then repeat the next day and so on. If you've smoked that day you should wait until the next day to start or you'll get a headache. You can't really mix and match, it has to be a clean break from smoking one day to patches the next.
