For some a bit 'lighter' entertainment: Have a look at AirConsole. It's a gaming platform where you use smartphones to control, so if he doesn't have one yet (which I assume) you would have to borrow one.
We have about 40 games on there and the vast majority are family friendly.
Get yourself Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and play it multiplayer!
There's a different game exe that has multiplayer, you need an original installation for it though: https://openrct2.org/ It's an open source reimplementation of the Rollercoaster Tycoon engine
Sure, thanks for asking!
Here is the iOS page.
And here is the Google Play page. Although Google play is not available yet due to lengthy reviewing process from their side...
I'd recommend some co-op/multiplayer games which are free on Game Pass:
- Battletoads (kind of Steets of Rage 4-ish with some more puzzle elements (difficultiy selectable, thus not as brutal as the old Battletoads))
- Levelhead (Super Mario Maker-alike)
- Pikuniku (sweet little puzzle game)
- Spiritfarer (cozy management co-op)
- Wizard of Legend (fast-paced roguelike)
- Goat Simulator (well, guess you either hate or love it)
- Human Fall Flat (quite unique puzzle game)
- Wargroove (turn-based tactic, but does it in a quite fun way and still challenging)
- Worms W.M.D. (well, not co-op but could offer some fun hours nonetheless)
- Guacamalee 2 (kind of Street-Fighter-ish + platforming)
also to mention some non-couchable co-op games like Grounded and Sea of Thieves and some Hot-Seat Games like Golf With Your Friends

Enter the Gungeon (free on epic store) - gunfight dungeon crawler, another good example would be Nuclear Throne
God’s Trigger (also free on epic) - kind of a complex co-op alternative to Hotline Miami (top-down shooter with skills)
Sounds like you enjoy a lot of the co-op games my wife and I do! Here's our list of ones we've played and ones we have queued up to try https://www.notion.so/beastsaber/Co-Op-Games-c6cb7cc7eaa44866a882d7d7666838c4
We have two PC's, one hooked up to our TV and a smaller 25 in monitor next to the TV. Great "marriage investment" ;-) Having two PC's is a no-brainer as it makes co-op games 100% more enjoyable than the degraded split-screen experience.
Hey! BL2 and the pre-sequel are free right now on Epic, if you don't already own them. :) Thought of you.
Hello, no it won't be a problem. Please click on this link to book a time for playtesting. Thanks
In other news, if you did want to buy it (and tell us if CoOp works), it is on sale here:

The coupon, RUMBLE, doesn't seem to work.

Check out the Linux game server manager site for a list of servers and games you can self-host. https://linuxgsm.com/servers/
If you can't self-host you can always rent a server. Search for any game server hosting company and their website will have a nice list for you to choose from.
Play together.. on one phone? Or coop between two phones?
To be fair there's not much choice with either category unless you play one of those MOBA games

Edit: That said, this list is pretty comprehensive, and I like the UI, so I figured I'd share
