There's an open source fan port of RCT2 that supports multi-player and mods being worked on, https://openrct2.org. All you need is the original for it to source all the copyrighted files from (the disc version, steam version, and if I recall the steam demo all work).
Get RCT2, and then download OpenRCT2. Its an open-source community-driven project that aims to fix a lot of the problems the game originally had. Also, multiplayer!
r/openrct2 and OpenRCT2's site for more info.

Roller Coaster Tycoon and its sequel. If allowing unfinished roller coasters to be opened to the public, making people dissappear for in-game centuries in labyrinths or drowning visitors at will isn't evil, I don't know what kind of game you'd be looking for.
(If you end up giving the game a try, I personally recommend getting RCT2 on GOG and use the installed files to run OpenRCT2)
This guide explains everything:
https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2747-guide-how-much-can-you-charge-for-your-shops/
You don't really need wider paths. All you need to do is keep building rides because those raise the guest cap, and keep advertising because that brings in extra guests.
https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2861-guide-when-and-how-do-guests-spawn/
Consider that it's a 14-year-old game. The fact it runs flawlessly on Windows now is actually a fairly astonishing feat in the programming world.
That said, a couple years back some people decided to make a community update of the game which seems to have support for mac and linux https://openrct2.org/
Yeah, there’s a folder for download online somewhere that has all the rct1 scenarios converted to rct2. That, or you can play classic
Edit: found this: https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2522-download-rct1-scenarios-for-rct2/
If you love RCT1 + 2 and have the itch to go back, come join us at /r/rct and check out OpenRCT2
OpenRCT2 is everything included in the first two games preserved in its original form, with modern PC fixes, and an enormous suite of expanded content and systems that allow new ride designs and precise customization. If you've ever seen recent screenshots of RCT parks and thought "I have no idea how they made/decorated this thing" the answer is almost certainly OpenRCT2
OpenRCT2 is just a fan-made version of the game you can download on top of your existing game. It has a lot of bonus features and cheats not available in the base game, so I would definitely recommend getting it. You should just be able to get it on https://openrct2.org/.
As for the tunnels, you can do that in the base game as well. The caveat is that the ground surface must be at least 2 units above the height of the track. So you have to raise or lower the land until you create a tall enough wall for the track to enter through. Alternatively, you can hold the shift key and drag your mouse down to lower the height of the ride when you're first constructing it (this won't work on pre-made layouts, it'll only work when placing flat rides or when building the first piece of a tracked ride).
Shout out to OpenRCT2 - re-implementing the game engine for modern computers/OS's and allows for better screen resolutions amongst other things. Just add your 'real' game assets and enjoy!
It is not free but it is cheap as heck and its never been a better time to play, because of OpenRCT.
Look at what projects like OpenRCT2 do : https://openrct2.org/
They remade the game as open source, but to run it, you must own and feed in a copy of the original game.
It is essentially a very big mod, but the entire code base has been completely swapped
The level of litigation over fan games varies a lot depending on the IP holder. There are several very polished Sonic fan games out there, and there is also the open-source implementation of Roller Coaster Tycoon, OpenRCT2. ROM hacks of prior gens have existed, as well as Pokemon Showdown created by the folks over at Smogon, which is in fact open source. However, the impression is that TPC has much more of a stick up their collective asses when it comes litigation since they’ve gotten people arrested over leaks, which I think is utter bullshit.
I do wonder how they would treat ROM hacks in the modern era, assuming that high-quality ROM hacks would be possible. If anything, if fans decide to remake Platinum, then it’s really TPC’s and Masuda’s own faults because they refused to deliver what people want.
If you have rollercoaster tycoon 2, you can download open rct2 and drop the files into your rct2 folder. This gives you access to online multiplayer and a bunch of added features not originally in the game! This works with the steam version as well!
You need to create your own scenario using the scenario editor to do that.
I recommend getting openrct2, which is an amazing mod that enhances the game in many ways with quality of life improvements and a lot of extra features. You can find a download here.
I hope you have a lot of fun playing this great game again!
Here. Get the development build -- it's actually more stable than the release build, since more bugs have been fixed.
But also ... just learn how to make great roller coasters without overloading on the intensity. It's a little bit more challenging, but that challenge is where the fun is at.
Actually, peeps will pay up to 0,60 for using the bathroom, provided their bathroom need bar is maxed out.
Here is a guide that explains how the max price is calculated:
https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2747-guide-how-much-can-you-charge-for-your-shops/
Quick summary of the guide:
Guests have a bathroom "stat" ( how much they need to go to the bathroom, is represented by a bar on the page with thirst, nausea, hunger etc. )
They won't go to the bathroom until the stat is about a third of the way full. In which case they will be willing to pay 0,10
As the stat increases, they will be willing to pay more, up until 0,60 when the bar is completely full.
This means you can always charge 0,10 without affecting guests' happiness
Another important fact is that not all advertisements have the same strength, and a higher price doesn't correlate with better advertisements. /u/deurklink1 wrote a guide on guest spawns which also includes a paragraph about how advertising influences it which shows how strong each one is. The best method is to just always run all available ad campaigns for two weeks at a time.
There's OpenTTD for Transport Tycoon https://www.openttd.org/ and OpenRCT2: https://openrct2.org/ for Rollercoaster Tycoon 2.
EDIT: Just found this pretty awesome list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_game_engine_recreations
I don't know if it'd fix the specific issue you're having, but if you have not I highly recommend checking out OpenRCT. This video from a number of years ago shows how to adjust scaling.
You can get it from here!
It has Day/Night mode but you have to be on software/hardware accelerated mode and enable it, but it only works at like two angles in the game. Plus it's flickery. But it's pretty great when it works.
Scenario guide:
http://rct.wikia.com/wiki/Gravity_Gardens/Scenario_Guide
Guide on park value:
https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2876-guide-how-to-calculate-park-value/
An easy way to get the park value up is by placing some rides with extremely high nausea and intensity. Even though peeps won't ride them, they contribute a lot to the park value.
Other than that, you could just spam cheap rides over and over again. This will win you most scenarios.
See in that post where it says "OpenRCT2 mod"? Google that
EDIT: Sorry, upon further reading it seems that that branch of OpenRCT2 has been abandoned - you can try building the older version mentioned there if you'd really like to see lights yourself, but the developer of that branch would need to do a lot of updating to get it merged into the main OpenRCT2 develop branch. Note that regular OpenRCT2 has implemented a Day/Night cycle you can enable in the options menu in-game.
Short answer is that it's an open-source reverse engineering of RCT2, allowing for people to fix problems the game had and add new features to it. For free. If you are familiar with OpenTTD, it's pretty much the same story, but much earlier in the life cycle. https://openrct2.org/ has a lot more information than I can recite off the top of my head.
Also, install OpenRCT2 after you get RCT2. If you want to run OpenRCT2 from Steam and have it track hours and whatnot, go to the Downloads page and install the Launcher. Then go to the Extras and click Install Steam Stub.
>The OpenRCT2 project recreates the classic hit RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 into open-source code, expanding the game with new features, fixing original bugs and raising game limits. Several notable improvements over RCT2 are: Multiplayer co-op, cheat menu, language support.
You can just download the mac version of openRCT2: https://openrct2.org/downloads/releases/latest#macOS
or do you mean the BASE game rct2, like all the content files?
Then you need to follow this tutorial: https://www.reddit.com/r/openrct2/comments/49sodo/tutorial_run_openrct2_on_a_mac_osx/
/u/deurklink1 posted some great articles about pricing in RCT
Discussion: https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2737-guide-how-much-can-you-charge-for-your-rides/
Calculator: http://rct2calculator.ga/
Here you go bud. This is an community updated version that works great I love it.
You will need a copy of Roller coaster Tycoon 2 tho. Then install this as well and it is just as amazing as you remember.
You can find a guide to install RCT2 on MacOS here: https://github.com/OpenRCT2/OpenRCT2/wiki/Installation-on-Linux,-macOS
The next thing to do is install OpenRCT2 to be able to run it. You can find download links here: https://openrct2.org/downloads
I do recommend using the launcher, this way you're always running the latest version of OpenRCT2.
Just tested and it appeared in the install dir of RCT2 (using the GOG version).
Even better would be getting OpenRCT2, opening your save file in there (it's compatible), zoom in all the way and make a giant screenshot from the menu. The screenshot will be in <user folder>/Documents/OpenRCT2/screenshot
Check out https://openrct2.org/
It's a polished version of RCT2, which requires you to own Triple Thrill Pack I believe. You can even join Multiplayer servers.
RCT 3 didn't age well. It's still fun to ride your own rides and to kill people in hilarious ways.
I think you will be fully satisfied with Parkitect. I believe the creators' intention was to re-imagine RCT. I am currently playing and there is lots of familiarity with RCT with less limitations and definitely more features.
They have only released one DLC so far which means they are not pumping out content as money grabs. It is a pretty genuine development team from what I've seen. Ignoring the DLC, if you have $22 to spend on a game then take up this deal. I have been watching sales and this is the lowest.
I play Planet Coaster as well. What keeps me from launching it is not feeling like doing tedious work around a ride to theme it. I do get in the mood and play it but Parkitect will hit the spot for you if you liked RCT.
Lastly, I will say that you can jump back in to RCT through OpenRCT2. As long as you have RCT2, you can play the open source version which has opened up the game with lots more options and a cheat menu to make adjustments to your game. You can even load RCT1 into it. There is a very active community which you can find at both /r/rct and /r/openrct2. They have dome some incredible stuff with the game.
It's RCT2, but better.
It's pretty foolproof. Very little to no tinkering needed. I think all you have to do is find the install location which is in steam/common.
> For higher speeds a linear system is used (LZB, or on newly built tracks ETCS) that continuously monitors the trains.
The impressive thing about that system is actually that it allows trains to overtake others on dual tracks: The slower one switches to the left track (possibly slowing down further because speed limits on switches), letting the faster one overtake on the right at full speed.
I've spent a long time trying to replicate that in OpenRCT, to no avail. Would have to dig into the code and implement more flexible signals and track priorities.
EDIT: OpenTTD, not OpenRCT. The latter, first off, is newer than my attempts and RCT also doesn't have signals.
RCT2 + open source overlay (https://openrct2.org/) is probably my favorite. it has everything you need in your bullet list AND you don't need top end hardware to run it. typically on sale at Steam for mere pennies...
easy to master...easy to play...you can play the same game indefinitely
Just charge enough for your food and your rides. These guides could help:
https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2737-guide-how-much-can-you-charge-for-your-rides/
https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2747-guide-how-much-can-you-charge-for-your-shops/
In this guide you will find some tips on how to make more guests spawn. If you follow them, I'm sure you will be able to beat any scenario! Good luck!
https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2861-guide-when-and-how-do-guests-spawn/
As long as you have a normal rct2 install, all you need to do is go here: https://openrct2.org/ Go to downloads, and download the LAUNCHER (not the release).
Bam, you now have rct2, but rewritten from the ground up to play nice on newer systems, with cool features like multiplayer and cheat codes.
> Roller Coaster Tycoon 2
Kind of off-topic, but in case anyone sees this, some people have been developing an almost completely open-sourced RCT2 and RCT1. It includes lots of mods and multiplayer, and the game itself is free as long as you have RCT2.
Also if you have RCT1, you can combine the 2 into one app so that you can play both at once.
Doesn't really have a story but I can suggest Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, with OpenRCT2. It is a great way to kill time and relax and is pretty simple to get into. Also it does appear to support an Arabic localization https://github.com/OpenRCT2/Localisation/blob/master/data/language/ar-EG.txt You just need to put that in the data/language directory if it isn't already and change the language in game.
Stardew Valley is a very simple and relaxing game as well but I am unsure if there's an Arabic translation. Besides that, you can probably find tons and tons of browser-based games for her.
I urge you to look up some example code of assembly to get an idea of how un-intuitive it is to work with to get an idea of how impressive that game was.
Oh! before I forget, you might also like this. Open source version of RT2, with multiplayer
Not sure if this is what you really want, but I've contributed to https://openrct2.org/ which is an open source rewrite of Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 (which was itself just an extension of the original). You can look around to see how things affect one another, though might take a bit of digging.
Yes, Using the openRCT project patch. https://openrct2.org Adds a large number of quality of life features. I stream these sessions every monday and we build with roughly 20 - 30 people over the span of 8 hours.
If you have rollercoaster tycoon 2 then you should look into Open RCT2. https://openrct2.org/
It's basically an improved remake of RCT2 but it links to graphics and sound files from the original version so you have to own RCT2 to use Open RCT2. It's worth playing as there are a lot of improvements.
Also if you own RCT1 you can link to it too, in the games settings, and have all the scenarios and content available to play.
Download OpenRCT2 for Mac from here: https://openrct2.org/downloads
Then download the original RCT2 demo (the ZIP, not the EXE) from here: https://openrct2.org/download-demo
Extract the ZIP files to the same folder the OpenRCT2 app is in, and when you open OpenRCT2, it should automatically find the demo files and run the full game.
(This is just from memory. I'm on mobile right now so I can't give exact instructions.)
There are no hex changes to make RCT1 run in full screen @ 1080p/1920x1080. It only scales up to 1280x1024. Or you could just use OpenRCT2, it doesn't have any of these restrictions and even has more FPS.
Well to some degrees, there are a few that i can think of:
OpenTTD
119 contributors according to their Github. Also a very solid game.
OpenRCT2
420 contributors according to their Github. A very expansive version of the original Rollercoaster Tycoon 2.
Warzone2100
Not nearly hundreds, but at 97 contributors it's still a very large project. Originally a paid game, the source code was made freely available after the original company went under, and has been driven by fans ever since.
I would just recommend downloading OpenRCT2. It's free, you will get a LOT of new features, fixes, and content, and most importantly, it will work on modern systems!
> but it seemed like i was just getting soooo many break downs.
Heh. In OpenRCT2, you can configure which notices you get bothered with, and I just turn ride breakdown notices off entirely. Who cares? It's my mechanics' problem, not my problem. I only get notified if a ride has been broken for a long time and still hasn't been fixed.
>I am playing on PC, i just dropped $20 on RCT classic hah. I can't remember if I have my original copy of RCT2, don't you still need it to play OpenRCT2?
I'm not sure... I think you might be able to use Classic as your source for the OpenRCT2 files. If not, you can always download the RCT2 free trial and use that. Perfectly legal, and there's no reason to feel guilty about it -- they've already got your money from you purchasing Classic.
>Does RCT2 run better on Win10 than the first game? I recall it having issues.
As far as I know, it should run better than the original game and/or Classic by this point. They've done a lot of work on making it better.
I've only tried it on Windows 8 and Linux, though. Never had Win10.
Deluxe will just work. But you'll also need the RCT2 files, for this the Triple Thrill Pack works.
You can follow the instructions here to download RCT2 on Steam for macOS, but if you replace the numbers with 285310 285312
it will also download RCT1 Deluxe in the same way.
OpenRCT2 is your best bet for getting that RollerCoaster Tycoon feeling on a modern computer. It requires RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 but can also import RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 data once installed. The project team has a quick start guide for Mac online at https://openrct2.org/quickstart/extract-rct2-files/macOS. Both Steam and GOG.com versions of the game are supported if you're looking to buy an online version of the game.
You don't even need to go to the bay, if you really can't/don't want to buy the original game, you can just use the demo of the game with OpenRCT2. I would recommend buying the original tho if you can, to support the developer.
I recommend RCT2 because of the OpenRCT2 mod, not sure what the exact differences between RCT1 and RCT2 are but I understand they are fairly similar games.
OpenRCT2 has a ton of quality of life improvements to the original game including the ability to play at any screen resolution and even play RCT1 scenarios, check out this video, which goes over some of the best added features.
I have only been playing the mod for a couple weeks and the devs have added a significant new feature in that time, the "Simulate Ride" function makes it possible to test coasters while building them.
You need an install of Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 somewhere on your machine. It's available inexpensively on GOG, Steam, and elsewhere. Once it's there, you use the OpenRCT2 launcher to play. It auto-detects most of the default installation locations.

This is an old tutorial I did a few years ago to explain the process. Audio's a little off and it doesn't discuss the other versions of RCT2 out there (classic, Discord, etc) but it still works. There's also a guide on openrct2.org
I highly recommend OpenRCT2 . It’s a modern (still being developed!) free re-implementation of RollerCoaster Tycoon that builds on the original game, and runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux on modern hardware. You can import assets from the original RollerCoaster Tycoon and RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 and it becomes kind of an ultimate edition of RollerCoaster Tycoon. Oh, and it has multiplayer support!
It is possible to run multiple servers on 1 pc! I only went up to 3 servers with this though, I don't know how much processing power you'll need to run more. I wrote a little guide on how to accomplish this: https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2856-guide-how-to-run-multiple-servers-on-one-pc/
As a Windows user I can't comment on the Linux version, but I highly recommend playing using OpenRCT2 instead. It's essentially a ground-up source port designed for modern OS that includes bug fixes, increased stability, as well as support for modern and widescreen resolutions.
If you're playing RCT1/Corkscrew Follies/Loopy Landscapes, you can import RCT1 scenarios directly into OpenRCT2; however, some of the ride names and progression might be a little different since it uses RCT2 ride names and track design.
In RCT2 (and classic) guests are only willing to pay 1/4th of the normal price if you also charge a park entrance fee. Keep this in mind if you play RCT1 scenarios. Also, as rides get older, their value decreases and guests don't want to pay as much for them anymore.
Here's a guide which explains how much you can charge for your rides: https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2737-guide-how-much-can-you-charge-for-your-rides/
You're not blind! OpenRCT2 is something you need to download
> OpenRCT2 is an open-source re-implementation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 (RCT2), expanding the game with new features, fixing bugs and raising game limits.
You mentioned RCT, so I'd like to make sure you know about OpenRCT2. It's an open-source rewrite of the RCT2 engine with compatibility with the original. It currently requires you to own RCT2 for the asset files (work is being done to create our own assets, but it's not complete yet). However, once you have the data files for RCT2 (and optionally RCT1), you can play OpenRCT2 on Windows, MacOS and Linux. OpenRCT2 adds a lot, but some highlights include increased limits and a multiplayer mode.
If you are interested in other open-source game rewrites, you can check out osgameclones.com for a good list of them.
This guide may help you to spawn more guests: https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2861-guide-when-and-how-do-guests-spawn/
Basically, you should keep your park rating high, and spam lots of cheap coasters.
Read this: https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2747-guide-how-much-can-you-charge-for-your-shops/ It is a guide that explains exactly how the prices are calculated. The sheet found above was based on the excel sheets provided in this guide.
If it says OpenRCT2 is compatible with MacOS then it should work. It only needs the game files of RCT2, other than that it uses its own engine and launcher and is different than the original game.
(PS. HERE is the download for the demo, if you don't own RCT2 and you don't want to buy it [why would you not wanna buy it thou?] then you can just download this and then OpenRCT2 will work the same.
you mean a optimiser for the entire library of games on x86 ibm compatible PCs? that would be a bit of a challenge.
what do you mean when you say optimise RCT2? the games got a 40fps cap but theres https://openrct2.org which removes a lot of the original engines limitations.
Consider getting OpenRCT2. My personal experience with RCT2 on Windows 8 is that it's finicky and doesn't work all that well, especially since it depends on the old Windows dialog box to handle loads and saves.
If you get OpenRCT2, you can play in windowed mode, use widescreen resolutions, and have features that are not normally present in RCT2. It'll also be a lot less of a hassle. OpenRCT2 requires an installation of RCT2 anyways (it uses the datafiles), so it's not a waste of your money to go use OpenRCT2. If it matters to you, OpenRCT2 also has a launcher that will allow you to keep track of how much time you've played RCT2 in Steam.
Compilation is the processes of translating source code into executable machine code so it can be run. The OpenRCT2 project provides precompiled binary builds on their website (and the launcher fetches builds from here I believe), but I can't see any with lighting enabled (if they're out there, /u/janisozaur is probably the one to ask).
The process of compiling the game (on Linux at least) is straightforward:
git clone git://github.com/OpenRCT2/OpenRCT2
cd
into the newly created OpenRCT2 directoryadd_definitions(-D__ENABLE_LIGHTFX__)
. This turns the lighting on.cmake ..
and then make
. This will create the openrct2 executable.make g2
. This will generate the g2.dat file that OpenRCT2 requires.I assume the process is similar on Windows but I'm not familiar with Windows build tools. If you have problems, ask /u/janisozaur because he's more knowledgeable than me (also, if there is a binary available somewhere, he'll probably know where it is).
EDIT: fix typo
Yes you share the same resources. Its just multiple players all collaborating on the same park simultaneously.
Try watching some videos of OpenRCT2 mutliplayer or try it for yourself:
Hi, I'm the webmaster of .net. Me and Jarno (the developer of .com) have made .org now, which will be a mix of both the website.
The launcher is available on openrct2.org, builds are available on .org, the forums are available on .org.
In the future, the coastercloud (to backup your saved games) will come back (to .org, that is) and we'll also make a Steam Workshop-ripoff-thing for OpenRCT2.
So https://openrct2.org is the place to be! :-D
To all PHP dev's who are interested, the source code is available on Github and we'd love some help ;) https://github.com/JarnoVgr/OpenRCT2.org
RCT Classic? Did you see the note on the page that says it does not work on Macs running macOS 10.15 or above? Do you know how to check what version of macOS you're on? If you can I would say return RCT Classic on steam, buy RCT1 and RCT2 or just RCT2, you can get both from steam, and use openRCT to play them. They have instructions on how to set it up on a Mac. https://openrct2.org/quickstart/extract-rct2-files/macOS Thats what I do and its simple, easy, and works. Plus you get all the quality of life improvements from openRCT.
Which version did you download?
From here (standard):

Roller Coaster Tycoon, as well as RCT2. The original releases will install and run on today's hardware just fine, but if you want modern QoL features, widescreen support and other useful improvements check out OpenRCT2.
Which was the first? AoE2? :)
In short, check this out: https://openrct2.org/ I even played co-op with a friend, that was fun.
Longer version: Amazing background about RCT over the last 20 years. https://youtu.be/ts4BD8AqD9g
A multiplayer park builder!? I have tried getting multiplayer mods for OpenRCT2 working before but to no success. Funny you should mention it's the perfect game for a GF because I only started exploring the possibilities of MP because of how much my GF at the time talked about RCT2.
> It's pretty rare that a game of this genre implement a coop mode, I have to thanks them for that!
I bought Planet Coaster instead of this one when they were both coming out, but i think i'll get this one now just because of how rare this feature is. Thanks indeed!
https://openrct2.org/ is the project I was talking about. MP used to be an experimental mod but it looks like it's part of their stable version now.
These options are only available when playing the reimplementation 'OpenRCT2'. You asked in the subreddit for this reimplementation, so we assume you play it. 😜 The RCT2 Triple Thrill pack on Steam does not support these options.
You can get OpenRCT2 for free though, it adds lots of new features and it only requires a copy of the Triple Thrill pack which you already have installed! See here, I recommend downloading the Launcher to keep the game easily updated.
OpenRCT2 is a project to open source reproduce RCT2 with a lot of extra QOL features. It's what most of the creative community is on these days. Modern resolutions, refresh rates, trainer/cheat features, active dev support. Also native macOS support as long as you have the base game files (RCT1 works too!).
RCT2, single player and sandbox. You can then download OpenRCT2 for some extra features and play multiplayer scenarios or sandbox with him at the same time!
You can play it for free if you download the demo on the OpenRCT2 website It basically bypasses the demo's time limit meaning you can just play the game with DLC for free
I'm going to warn you 3 isn't as fun as 1 or 2. And I mean that in the sims can't die way, no drowning and no coaster deaths. You put them in water "I'm drowning" but they just float there for infinite number of years. You run a coater over them or intentionally cause a collision causes them to go "Ahh!" and then they just find their way back on the path and say that 'Ride 1 is dangerous I'm not going on it'.
Free is free and the game is still playable. IMO I found 3 the most disappointing of the series due to the lack of consequences. OpenRCT has breathed new life into 1 and 2 if you're looking on going back. They've added multiplayer, cheat tools, and etc.
Yeah, I have RCT Classic. I was also pointed to this page last night.

Where there is an android release of OpenRCT2
So if someone could help me get that working like I described above, that would be amazing! 👍
So, first off, this isn't the sub for troubleshooting RCT2 or RCT3. This is a sub for OpenRCT2.
You've provided us with very little information to go off of. What version of the game are you running? What happens when you try to launch it? Are you using OpenRCT2 or the vanilla game?
We can't magically figure out what's wrong with your computer.
In case you didn't know there's Open RCT2. It's a pretty great remaster of RCT2 for modern computers and it even allows you to play co-op with another player.
RCT2 definitely has a sense of progression with needing to complete maps to unlock others too. It was a great bit of fun playing through most of em with my SO
If you don't want to pay more money you can use the demo version. This is sufficient to run OpenRCT2. There might also be a way to extract the necessary files from the mobile app, but it probably requires root.
If you liked playing Roller Coaster Tycoon before, people have made a free version (if you still have the original CD) of the game that works on modern operating systems: https://openrct2.org/
Tbh, you should probably just install OpenRCT2 if you're already using RCT2. You get access to a bunch of new features and cheats, and you can turn those banners invisible so they don't ruin your aesthetic.
If you already own the game, just download the demo from https://openrct2.org/download-demo. The demo includes WW and TT, and the demo time limit is removed once openRCT2 is installed.
So what's in OP is RCT Classic for mobile, but a lot of people have RCT2 and play with the OpenRCT2 conversion, which self describes as follows:
>OpenRCT2 is an open-source re-implementation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 (RCT2), expanding the game with new features, fixing bugs and raising game limits.
And lists the following features:
I found this spreadsheet to be really useful in understanding pricing: https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2737-guide-how-much-can-you-charge-for-your-rides/?tab=comments#comment-17349
One thing that isn't mentioned often is that having an admission on your park reduces the prices you can charge on your rides by 75%.
My friend, there are so many. There are perfect ones for every occasion, but I think the most appropriate one to bring up in this subreddit is The Beginner's Guide by Davey Wrenden. If you like simulations, may I recommend the free and open-source Roller Coaster Tycoon 2? The whole series inspired my career and I still chill to SummerAir.wma whenever designing.
You can always skip ahead if you don't like the examples. I think it's good to show a few things you can achieve by making things invisible, or else you won't know what it's actually useful for. By the way, you can read everything here as well: https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2880-guide-how-to-make-invisible-rides/
The sheet was made based on this guide I wrote: https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2747-guide-how-much-can-you-charge-for-your-shops/ Everything will become clear once you read this. The data was taken directly from the game code, and is not outdated.
Umbrellas are a special case because they bypass the normal price check when it's raining. You can often charge more for on-ride photos because guests will be happier after riding a roller coaster.
While there are other solutions that will work, you may want to use OpenRCT2 instead. It's a reverse engineered port of OpenRCT2 to a modern codebase and despite the low version number it's fairly stable.
Check out OpenRCT2!
You'll still need RCT2 installed, but they've added a metric ton of QOL updates.
Integrated Twitch chat, Twitch viewers are guests in the park, uncapped frame rate, support for 1080p/2160p/ultrawide monitors, UI scaling, import custom intro clips and music, import custom building/ride content, 4-speed time control, and a whole lot more.
I usually start at around £40 entry. They will pay once you have enough rides. The more guests that come in at a low price the less space there is for guests when you can charge more so I'd rather have no guests at the start than have guests paying £10.
Assuming you don't want to just spam tons of super small coasters then start by using no entry signs to cut off the areas of the park with no coasters. From here just build non stop, small at first and larger as you progress but remember that value is linked to your E/I/N stats.
Placing lots of stalls can be very lucrative, especially if you merchandise your ride exits to make the most of happy guests.
I really enjoyed this scenario so my advice would be to just take your time and concentrate on building cool coasters and lots of shops.
Check out Deurklink's park value guide. https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2876-guide-how-to-calculate-park-value/
And here's my play through on classic (it's more or less the same) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YBFn21xW50
There's probably a way to do what you want with trainers (if you're running off the original CD's, otherwise it's hard to get them working), but the easiest way would be to get OpenRCT2 which requires a RCT2 installation. Once you get OpenRCT2 set up, you can open your RCT1 save file and save it as a RCT2 save file. OpenRCT2 makes changing a savegame's objects on the fly a breeze.
