Wow, this guy is really something. The guy's name is "Sherwin B Seed" (Source: The Olympian) Google that and look at some of the stuff that comes up. Check out his gab page. Pretty much every racial and ethnic slur shows up in his posts on there. Scary amount of hatred. He has exactly 1 follower, so at least he wasn't successfully spreading his hate too well via that channel. Makes me really wish he hadn't survived his fight with the police. The world would be a better place without him.

If you absolutely want to get vaccinated at lumen field, put the downtown zip code as your address. Otherwise you might get directed to one of the other sites.
I got an email with a link today and now they give you a code to enter in the website to discourage link sharing. There were 10K+ appointments available between the 3 sites - Lumen, Rainier and West Seattle. They allow you to choose Pfizer which they seem to have at all the sites.
As did DC and the list keeps growing. I'm personally filling out their refund form once my tickets actually arrive in the mail.
Bunch of people on /r/ECCC are planning on doing the same.
Definitely frustrating. But the waitlist form does literally say "we encourage you to pursue multiple strategies for securing a vaccination appointment," so I wouldn't blame people for jumping at an opportunity they find via social media. Blame the city and their opaque process.
Thanks for the quick response and articles!
I am liking Zotero to store and organize papers/references of interest, maybe you will like it too, or maybe you already know about it /shrug.
anyway, thanks again!
I was on another thread on this topic and wanted to broadcast /u/mofang comments:
"I wanted to offer a counter voice to the naysayers in this comment thread and encourage everyone to set this up. When you dig into the details, this is a really safe and privacy-protecting way to keep everyone protected:
Absolutely no location tracking occurs. Ever. Everything that matters about the software was written by Apple and Google, not by Washington State. The app is only needed to verify infections in those who test positive so false notifications aren’t sent - but all the heavy lifting happens in code written by your phone maker. There is no risk of being hacked or tracked from using this. Your phone simply collects a list of random numbers from other phones, and keeps a list of numbers you hand out to others. Then, once in a while, your phone downloads a list of numbers that tested positive for COVID. It’s like a really grim version of the lottery - if you have the “winning numbers”, you get a notification. And... that’s it. No tracking, no centralized control. The absolute worst that could happen here is that you end up taking an unnecessary COVID test. The best is that you find out days earlier that you are potentially infected and can start taking action to protect your family.
I’m a software engineer and have spent quite a bit of time evaluating the design of this system and came away really impressed. If you have any questions or concerns, ask them here and I’ll do what I can to answer them!
Edit since this is now the top post: for Android users, visit https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.wa.doh.exposurenotifications to install. For iPhone users, go to Settings and then tap Exposure Notifications and follow the instructions."
Just a reminder: the tree pollen count (in Seattle at least) is still very high, and will be until Monday when it should go down to "moderate".
I've been monitoring this daily all month, and since I possibly have the world's worst sinuses, my allergy symptoms have been following the pollen count almost exactly. (Tree pollen specifically, it's the one I'm most sensitive to) I found that simple OTC allergy meds do the trick, just like they always have for me.
Also, the indoor allergy tracker they've got is a pretty useful tool as well. I fell asleep with my heater on too high a couple nights ago, and my dry nose/throat cleared right up the next night when I decided to leave the heater off and bundle up instead.
I made my own - you can buy these on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B092HP3PJG
They have two layers that are easily separated. Cut out the back layer and the front layer still looks like you're wearing a mask. Has been working great at the gym since this whole business started.
re school closures: I just listened to
Making Sense with Sam Harris #190 - How Should We Respond To Coronavirus (with Nicholas Christakis) https://podcasts.google.com/?feed=aHR0cDovL3dha2luZ3VwLmxpYnN5bi5jb20vcnNz&episode=OTRhOGRiNDQtY2UxMC00MDM4LTg4YzgtOWVhZTRiZWIzYzMz
They make a distinction between reactive school closure (i.e., waiting to close until someone at the school gets sick) and proactive school closure (closing once someone in the surrounding community gets sick). While both help slow the spread of the disease, the latter approach is much more effective, mainly because it forces the parents to also isolate themselves sooner.
I did one of these after a bunch of events on Labor Day weekend. You just have to drop it off at a UPS store and it goes overnight to a lab back east (shipping was included with the kit). My test was in the lab and being processed by 6am Seattle time and I think I had the result around 12-1pm Seattle time. I’m sure processing times are slower with the holiday crunch but absolutely worth keeping one of these in the medicine cabinet. Pull date was good for 3 months: Amazon COVID-19 Test Collection Kit DTC — Sample processed in lab — Results in 24 hours from lab receipt — FDA Authorized PCR Test — Ages 18+ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZR5XNBM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_J8QJZ8T6MJ87SR85X6CF
There's a decent pile of tentative evidence, e.g.: https://www.accuweather.com/en/health-wellness/study-on-new-coronavirus-says-warmer-weather-may-slow-covid-19-spread-and-cooler-weather-may-accelerate-it/707177
It's not a 100% lock, but I'd take "COVID-19 spread is diminished in typical summertime conditions versus wintertime conditions" at 2:1 odds right now. The likely range of effect seems to go from "barely" some "somewhat" - e.g., almost certainly not enough to prevent exponential growth unless we continue to employ social distancing, testing, and aggressive disinfecting.
I'm not getting any, at all. I wonder why the discrepancy? It's the same info that is at the Johns-Hopkins site, so just use that one. There is no ore information here; it's just in a different format.

I just listened to Governor Andrew Cuomo's press conference. Governor Cuomo's brother has corona virus. A French reporter asked him :"What did you learn from your Father?" The Governor said "How come you always ask the hardest question? Is that a French thing" And then he answered the question: Quoting Governor Cuomo:
"My Father had high regard for Winston Churchill. Never give up, never give up, never give up. That's where we are.
He taught me to trust in love and love's triumph over anger, hate and selfishness, and we need love now, we need love as a people. It's about doing the right thing. People will respond to that in this state and in this country.
This is hard personally, it's hard to go through this all day, and then it's hard to stay up all night watching those numbers come in as the number of deaths tick up, knowing that you're in charge of the ship at this time and I don't shirk that responsibility at all, but (going through hard times) eventually you get through it and find the light.
And we're going to find the light".
A family member reposted this from someone's Facebook post. Someone else said it came not from Bill Gates but an Irish group. Whoever said it, I found it profoundly centering and calming, and I hope you do also. I added the title.
Quoting Bill Gates: "When you go out and see the empty streets, the empty stadiums, the empty train platforms, don't say to yourself, "My God, it looks like the end of the world."
What you're seeing is love in action. What you're seeing, in that negative space, is how much we do care for each other, for our grandparents, for our immuno-compromised brothers and sisters, for people we will never meet.
People will lose jobs over this. Some will lose their businesses. And some will lose their lives. All the more reason to take a moment, when you're out on your walk, on your way to the store, or just watching the news, to look into the emptiness and marvel at all that love. Let it fill you and sustain you.
It isn't the end of the world. It's the most remarkable act of global solidarity we may ever witness. It is the reason the world will go on."
Anyone want to participate in a documentary?
I'm a documentary filmmaker creating a feature length film composed entirely of community video submissions submitted daily as the COVID-19 pandemic progresses. We are looking for people (anyone!) to submit daily or at least frequent short videos documenting and discussing their lives during this pandemic. Everyone is in this together but experiencing so many different things, so we want to use the power of cell phones and the internet to create a global picture of how humans are fighting and coping with COVID-19.
More about the film via our sign-up page: https://airtable.com/shrMT5PyLJ8QpDFJR
PLEASE feel free to ask questions, I want to be transparent. I may not be prompt, but I will answer any questions I can. We have applications in with the International Documentary Association for fiscal sponsorship, and have a pending application for a National Geographic COVID-19 journalism grant.
My heart goes out to everyone fighting this; we're in this together.v
I was able to secure an appointment for Feb 12 at the Auburn facility today for my parents. There are still slots available. Anyone in South King County and eligible here is the link.
When you go back to work you'll probably be a lot more careful about things, but at some point we'll need to start working again.
Consider this, for every point of unemployment in the US, there are thousands of additional suicides^1. Some say as many as 70,000 per point. We've gone from 3% unemployment to 16% in just a few months. At 10k per point, that's 130,000 suicides. At 70k it comes out to 910,000. I don't know how many would die if we opened everything up... So let's at least stay cautious and avoid large gatherings. Our current estimate nationally is "under 100,000". So if we opened up sooner and it doubled it would be 200,000. So how do you balance 100k or 200k corona deaths against 500k suicides?? And there are probably other things we're not even considering.
So my point is... All this stuff is unknown and unknowable. Do the best you can. Don't feel guilty if you need to go back to work. Those of us that can stay home should, but if you can't - just do your best and be good to others.
I thought you had to call, but apparently you can also submit online and they send you a link.
Sounds like the same messaging I received. I filled out the City of Seattle COVID-19 Vaccination Notification List web form and received the email when appointments opened up a couple days later. If you're eligible the form will email about appointments at Lumen, Rainier Beach, and West Seattle.
Interesting link for those of you discussing this virus with loved ones who deny the existence of this pandemic.

Anyone want to participate in a documentary? About 50 people so far, and we're looking for more!

So far we've had a lot of positive feedback about the process and many have found it therapeutic in these times.

Like Dr. Duchin says the key is to have layered protection. I think enhanced ventilation or eating outside is hugely helpful, but it's not always feasible. But masking and distancing are also critical layers and lunch is problematic as you pointed out.
Lunch could be switched to Soylent or something similar. The banana and strawberry flavors are pretty good for kids and it's got good macro and micronutrients. If you go liquid then you can keep your mask on if you get some with a straw port.
You bet!

I bought some of these. They're not perfect and will start to come loose after a wash or two, but they're pretty inexpensive and I've rarely had issues with fogging since buying them.
This is the cloth I use, although I'm sure there's several products that do the job. Lasts a few hours and easy to reapply.

I think in heavily infected places like Othello it would be a good idea to wear GLOVES when out in public. Maybe don't bring potentially exposed coats into the house; keep them in the garage or something.
It is unlikely we will get a notification, but activated the alert system anyway. We only leave our apartment to walk the dog and pick up mail. And once every two weeks I would go to the grocery store. We don’t order take out. We don’t visit friends or family. We stay as isolated as possible. My last trip to the grocery store was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Our plan, no exaggeration, is to not go into a grocery store again until February. I just ordered powdered whole milk because after next week we’ll be out. I appreciate we are able to isolate to this degree. I wish everyone could. I wish everyone who can would, in order to protect those who can’t.
May I recommend Animator's Survival Kit. I’m not a professional animator, but worked with a few game animators that spoke highly of this book. All the damn time. I’d like to recommend it to you! Thank you for recommending opentoonz!!! I’m excited.
Edit:
PS: start with the animation now. The drawing will get better with the animation. Start with a ball, do more, keep pushing! You’ve got this!!!
Maybe try these? They wrap around the back of the head with velcro, so they might be a bit easier on ya.
I have both but I've just been using the app lately instead as it's easier to carry around with me instead of plugging a scanner in.

Been using this one, it has a stable feed of Seattle police, fire and EMS as well as south king county if you want that.
So I have an N95 with valves made for sports. I've also seen N95s for painting with valves. This is the kind of mask I've got.

I think Delta probably had some reasonable rationale behind the move to ban masks with valves beyond PR. Confined space, unfiltered exhales...to me it makes sense.
