Get a drill bit that is just less than the width of the screw that is stripped. Drill it out. Just remember, when the drill gets through, gravity will prevail and you don’t want your bit ramming through. So hold the drill with both hands. This is really easy to do.
Don’t pry anything up.
Get your M.2 drive out of the way.
You can get a spare screw set at Amazon.

Cheers! I don't actually know what the exact stand is as I've taken this from my workplace to work from home. Looking on Amazon, the closest is this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0796RVRL4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xcJdFb1GA4YG1
I had the computer 7 years Dell did no such thing but the distro was THIS. I had my SSD partitioned and I tried to install this to the 2nd partition. The PC doesn’t even post now but if I hold D down it does do the screen diagnostics Edit: swapped SSD out with a fresh one, tried old components, nothing
Please don't buy a 5400RPM hard drive. The form factor is the 2.5". If you go on Amazon, search "SATA SSD" and practically everything should be compatible. You want the 2.5" size factor, do NOT get it mixed up with a m.2 ssd.
I'll post a link to what you are looking for.

I think it might work if you try two https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-USB-C-Supporting/dp/B01J6DT070. I would also try one port on the left and one on the right. If there are still BIOS options like on 9700 for making dGPU control TB/USB-C ports directly - try both options too.
The hope is - when switching to USB-C DP1.4 it will route one DP1.4 (4xHBR3) per USB-C directly to GPU without any chances for TB4 40Gbps limitations to kick in. (when USB-C DP devices are connected - there is no DP over TB involved, it actually uses "high-speed lanes" on USB-C as DP lanes). But I don't know yet details on XPS 9710 TB implementation.
I want to say yes, especially since you already have the laptop and the graphics card. Funny enough this is a similar setup to the one I was thinking to have when I would be a grad-student soon and have to go work with people for a period of time but cant bring my desktop with me.
I would consider also getting a cheap/decent laptop cooling pad just to help the laptop keep the thermals under control. https://www.amazon.com/ICE-COOREL-Cooling-Adjustable-Notebook/dp/B086GMY49Y/ref=sr_1_28?dchild=1&keywords=laptop+cooling+pad+6+fans&qid=1619396518&sr=8-28
I used to use cases like this, but not anymore. The risks are damage to the hinges from the extra weight, and limitations to the airflow (depending on how the vents are impacted) affecting longevity. I will use skins to provide protection of surfaces.
I do have a MacBook with the bottom half of a clear case on which raises it up for better air intake.
I always buy vertical sleeves into which can slide my laptops into my backpack to avoid scratching.

My XPS 15 9500 office setup includes the Thunderbolt 19TB dock, two Dell 23" monitors (E2318Hx), a Logitech Craft keyboard, and an MX Master 3 mouse. I use the two monitors and the display on my XPS simultaneously without issues (so I don't need a standalone trackpad). Works perfect for me. My only qualm is with the dock, the fan turns on at seemingly random times and is as loud as a jet engine.
You didn't ask, but this is the desktop mount I got for the monitors. Its a bit of overkill but very adjustable and works well: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BNHEDYW/
The monitors are cheap workhorses, the keyboard and mouse are not cheap at all. But I really like them.
I like the setup so much that I duplicated it at home and can now work from either desk seamlessly.
Hope this helps.
You’ll need a usb 3 Ethernet adapter.
Usb c is the newer standard and a different connector.
Ethernet is the connection type, gigabit is the speed.
Just take any Ethernet cable (cat 6 or cat 5e) and connect it between the router and that adapter and you’ll be online with the cable.
You need a "T5 sized Torx". If you're unfamiliar, that's exactly what the tool is called. Google that bad boy.
Definitely something to help pry it open. MAKE SURE it's made of something soft, like plastic. You can mark up your case otherwise. There's quite a few clips around the chasis, and they can be hard and a bit nerve-wracking to pry open the first time. Don't be afraid to put some elbow grease into it. Open it from the front to the back. Pry open under the touchpad first, and work your way around the case towards the screen hinges.
For another NVME drive, I installed this bad boy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MFZY2F2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's a wicked fast drive. Very nice.
Last tip, the second screw for an extra drive does not come with the 9500, so I'd recommend buying a "misc computer screw" pack to make sure you can secure the new drive in place.
For your 1440p monitor, you can use any USB-C to HDMI/DP adapter, for ur 4k tv you are going to want to get a USB-C adapter with Thunderbolt 3 so you can archive 60hz (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for example or you can get a thunderbolt 3 dock
I just bought a cheap one from amazon, it’s really good and has 4 usb a ports and vga, hdmi, lan and memory card ports too. Only thing that isn’t great is the power delivery is not high enough to charge the laptop but it’s not bothered me too much yet. I’ve left the link if you want to have a look
USB C Hub Multiport... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MKC5Z1D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
no. I use a third-party charger, one of those GaN multiple charger with 60W output from Amazon, and it always keep the laptop at 100%. You can use 30W-100W charger without any issue.
I think it's this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Klearlook-Ventilated-Lightweight-Space-save-Tablet-White-White/dp/B078WQV7KH
It's great at what it does, super portable too, so perfect to chuck in a bag.
It raises up the screen about 6 inches which is def useful but I'd like it to be higher (without having it sit on a shoebox as it is currently...) I'm looking to upgrade to a dual monitor arm setup, one arm with a vesa mounted laptop tray to give full adjustment and more desk space
I got this: NewQ USB4 Hub. It works with TB4, is fast, and was only $64. I was thinking I would have to spend much more before I found it.

The best generic docking station for Dell XPS is Dell D6000.
But if it is too large for you, you can use a small type-C hub such as this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Multiport-Adapter-ABLEWE-Ethernet-Compatible/dp/B0BHNP9KWG/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=ZCI12XFKWISP&keywords=type-c+hub&qid=1667438562&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI0LjU0IiwicXNhIjoiNC4yNiIsInFzcCI6IjMuODUifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=type-c+h...
I am currently facing the same issue with my Dell XPS 9315 connecting to LG 27UP80B monitor. I purchased the cable from Cable Matters(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KSM2FWR?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1), but that still hasn't resolved my issue. I can use the USB hub and charge my laptop, but there is no display with the thunderbolt connection.

I changed one of the settings in BIOS that limited the thunderbolt ports to only video/power and with that I am able to connect via thunderbolt. But it doesn't give audio or take any keyboard input from usb.

Any suggestions if I should try another cable, or change any BIOS settings to resolve this?
It's super easy as is adding a 2nd NVME Drive (You might need cover from amazon). The ram is super easy. Here is what I put in mine.
I went with the 'trash' mCover: https://www.amazon.nl/dp/B08HNF8ZY4/ref=pe_28126711_487102941_TE_SCE_dp_1
Granted, it hides all of the looks of the laptop, making it appear like a black blob.
The reason's mostly functional, I move around with my laptops all the time, I've had cases on my MacBooks as well and those are already worn out at the corners.
The mCover case has these plastic feet to raise the laptop up, nice addition, keeps the laptop a bit cooler due to better airflow.
The 9510 mCover fits the 9520, but I had to trim down two clips on the bottom panel in order to make the lid touch the base, otherwise those magnets would not stick.

So yeah, I went with the cover because it soothes my anxiety, but whatever floats your boat, I guess
A bit over £20, but this would be good
this:

a little elevation goes a long way to making the fans really work great.
only other bit is look in your task manager for what's actually running / remove bloat where you can
Curious as well, i wasn't sure so just ended up getting this: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08LBVRZZD?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
It "should" work... but...
>I guess this is what Thunderbolt is designed for, right?
Just to be clear this is a USB C hub, not a Thunderbolt hub. The difference is the data throughput, but the behavior is much the same. It's confusing because all Thunderbolt ports are USB C, but not all USB C ports are thunderbolt. (Apologies if you already knew this).
Your laptop will send all the data for the display, ethernet, and peripherals through the USBC connector and it will be just fine on the computer, because like you said that's what it's designed for. Should also charge your laptop just fine with your current charter. I use this USBC dock and it all works just fine. It's possible that the dock itself could overheat with enough data/power running through it at once, but that looks like a decent enough dock with good reviews so I highly doubt it.
There should be no difference in image quality, it's a digital signal so it will either work perfectly or not work at all.
No but the SSD might throttle its speed if it gets too hot.

Like the SSDs, Dell does sell heat sinks but they are also marked up. Again, there are 3rd party alternatives such as Deal4GO 2nd Heatsink (Amazon).
That would work just fine. In fact I have a USB hub with two hdmi outs that pushes two external monitors and charges through one thunderbolt cable.
Here's a link to the hub I use. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X5KSBNJ
Another thing you can try (I haven't had to do this but it will help) is capping the frame rate to say 30fps (more for slower games) or 60fps rather than rendering extra frames that aren't a benefit.
Good to hear the stand is working, you can buy stick on kickstands etc but I usually just use whatever I have in my bag or on my desk, like a DVD case or something like that helps loads right at the back. It's just the nature of these sleek laptops since the feet are so tiny. I'll probably grab some wedge feet like these at some point.
I guess you could call it a dock? Anker refers to it as an adaptor. It's this one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerExpand-Adapter-Delivery-MacBook-Gray/dp/B096LV7W9D
But it's good to know that for powerbanks Anker recommends that the pass-through feature shuld be used as little as possible, as I was thinking of buying one for emergencies. Thanks for the tip!
And yes, the "adaptive" mode on Windows sounds great, it's one of the few things I'm missing on Ubuntu! Not sure if there's something like that directly in the BIOS but I'll check and update this post after I do! Thanks again!

All good, no issues
I got mine from Amazon slot 2 heat spreader for Dell XPS. It comes with thermal pad so you just put it on and screw in, no additional parts needed. Good fit
Slot 2 M.2 SSD Hard Drive Heatsink Cover with Thermal for Dell XPS 15 9520 9510 9500, Precision 5550 5560, Latitude 15 5500 Laptop P/N: 04TW9C 4TW9C 3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08M3H1ZHW/ref=cm_sw_r_apanp_1vP8mrXWxeukM
Update. I bought a different cable off of Amazon, specific to Thunderbolt 4 and connected it. This was just a last ditch effort that I didn't expect to yield any results. For some reason, using this cable instead of the one that came with the LG monitor worked instantly. It is capping my hz at 120 vs a display port cable I bought which is providing 144.
I also called Dell support but basically they told me that because the monitor I bought isn't a Dell product, it just isn't compatible. What a waste of time.
This is the product I bought on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084Z65YJQ?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details
No problem, it's best to be objective with no brand loyalty. I really liked the Razer 15 I owned too at the time, and I really like my friends M16 - they just all have different pros/cons depending on what you value. The XPS is sort of a jack of all trades where it strikes a balance of all things at the cost of not being the best at any single thing.
Agreed, the ports are better on almost every other device vs XPS! The full size SD card is a nice bonus to an otherwise poor selections of ports. An upside is the fact you can can charge from all 3 USB C ports though, and 2 are thunderbolt (at least on mine, should be the same on yours). I also bought a smaller 100w charger for my backpack as well to make the whole setup a bit smaller/lighter. This makes the poor port selection easier to deal with too: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07HPX7BBC it's been fantastic for bridging the old and new. USB C drive, but with a USB A adapter built in.
Another thing you may want to test is battery life, if you have the XPS and Asus for another few days - try using them unplugged so you can have a rough idea on performance and how long they last. What I found quite cool with the XPS is that because it's relatively low powered (130w charger) you don't lose much performance on battery, so if I unplug while playing a game I might only lose 5-10% fps. The Asus on the other hand will reduce performance a fair bit since it can't possibly power that CPU and 3070 ti fully on battery.
Ultimately this choice to me comes down to - do I need maximum power at the cost of a thicker/slightly worse looking device. Or can I deal with
There were some previous comments that for some reason arent showing. I'm almost sure that was one of them.. ended up with this
>The battery was 100 percent I'm not sure if that's what you mean
After re-reading what you had asked initially, let me add: make sure you unplug the battery THEN press the power button for 30 seconds to make sure that there is no electricity within the system
>Will the tweezers be able to fit inside? You can look for very fine tweezers like the ones HERE.
>I'm not sure what you mean by this
You need to make sure that your body isn't electrically charged (static electricity, etc). Usually if you touch a piece of metal before touching the laptop itself that's good enough.
How long do you want to use the laptop in terms oh hours away from an outlet?
The built-in battery is 55WHr so multiply that by the number of times you need to charge the laptop to get a final figure.
For example, if you want to recharge the laptop 5 times away from an outlet, you need a battery with at minimum 275WHr power station. That would mean something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/GOLABS-Portable-Station-Generator-Emergency/dp/B08P5SFV4D
Get from Crucial brand.
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-4800MHz-Laptop-Memory-CT32G48C40S5/dp/B09RVNMGFH/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1FI95NTGHSSGK&keywords=crucial+ddr5&qid=1655355423&sprefix=crucial+ddr%2Caps%2C236&sr=8-2
I bought 2x32GB DDR5 from Kingston Fury and those didn't work. Crucial brand works fine! I got 64GB (2x32GB DDR5 SODIMM)
I've bought a 9520 with the FHD+ screen, the i7 CPU, 32GB, 512GB SSD and the 3050 Ti graphics.
I wanted a 2TB SSD. It was cheaper to get a small SSD from Dell and then add a 2TB one in the second slot (I got one of these heat sinks https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08M3H1ZHW). Adding the SSD was pretty easy. You need a Torx T5 screwdriver, and something thin to prize open the bottom of the case. I used my fingernail but got a cut on a sharp edge.
When I bought mine, it was the same price to get 32GB RAM from Dell, as it was to buy it with less and then upgrade.
I wanted something that was quick and with good battery life. I rarely need the performance and the battery life at the same time.
this sounds like the hard drive is going bad, do you know if your model came with a spinning drive or an ssd?

if it came with a spinning drive, id upgrade to an ssd, and that laptop will run like new.
Sata ssds are pretty cheap, you will likely be able to get a much larger one for cheaper.

I haven't been able to find any of the slider or clip types that are small enough / thin enough for modern laptop displays with almost no bezel and just a tiny little 1/4 inch or less space, so I ended up trying these and the small dots work great - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B087P6LTJW/ (that's NOT an affiliate link so I assume it's ok to post)
They're a little tricky if you have large fingers or dexterity issues, since it's a very miniscule dot you're trying to pot directly over the lens and not the sensors, but they stick well / don't leave any residue / reusable. I can usually take one off and put it back on 20+ times before I mangle it too much to re-apply.
Hope that helps. (I know this thread is old but still getting views and replies)

This is on Amazon India, but you should be able to find something similar?
You can't natively do 4 screens without a 2060 on the 9700. The iGPU is limited to a max of 3 screens and it is always running the internal display, so that already counts as one. The way to get around that is the same way I did it with my previous 9560. Run two of the displays off the laptop (in my case I use a TB16 dock) and then run the third one through a DisplayLink adapter. That will essentially run the third one from a USB port.
I used this one for my 9560. Though in your case you might want to go to the DisplayLink site and see if they certify something that supports multiple monitors. Don't buy a knock-off, I did and it lasted all of three mins.
I have the 9520 with 2 nVME m.2 SSD. Your C:\ drive or main boot drive is going to be the left one. To add in another drive, use the right slot.
pic for reference (from my XPS 9500) but same setup for 9520 today.
any models on Amazon will works, at least 45W or 60W. Make sure you have the proper 100W USB-C cable as well. I got one with Amazon's brand. It's slim & portable.
Update to this question. Unfortunately I found out that the RAM that I bought was incompatible with the XPS 8940. Therefore I returned it and bought this RAM instead.. It's listed as compatible.
It arrived but I then had another issue which I had to reach out to Dell about. When I installed it, I used DIMM slots 3 & 4, which had the black pins in it. The stock RAM that came with the machine is in DIMM slot 1 & 2, which are the white slots for clarity. I believe it's Samsung RAM.
The PC still wouldn't start. It would post but not show anything on screen then shutoff after about 1 minute. It would then start itself again but repeat the process. Oddly it would be fine if I only had one stick of the new RAM in brining it to 24GB.
After a call to Dell tech support, who I must say were really good, it turns out that if you buy upgrade RAM that's not from the Dell store, then you have to install each new stick of RAM alongside the existing RAM. To be clear - DIMM 1 is Dell RAM, DIMM 2 is new RAM, DIMM 3 is Dell RAM and DIMM 4 is new RAM.
Odd - but it works and I now have 32GB of DDR4 available!
Cheers
A warning:
After I installed a fresh copy of Win 11 and upgraded to W11 Pro, the laptop was experiencing issue with booting up from sleep or from a shutdown.
Example: If I shutdown the laptop, close the lid, wait 10 seconds, then reopen the lid, Dell logo would comes up, loading for 3 seconds, then screen immediately went black and shutdown. I checked the power log (Command Prompt > powercfg /SleepStudy) and that event is label as "Abnormal shutdown". I don't know what cause it. Google came up empty. This abnormal shutdown also happens when I put the laptop to "Sleep" or "Hibernate". When ppen the lid afterward, Dell logo comes up, then it immediately shut down again. EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!
I was very frustrated with this, and knowing it's not a hardware problem. I reformatted back to Windows 10 Home and upgraded to Win 10 Pro. The problem went again!!
Now, when I put it to "Sleep" or "shutdown", reopening the lid wakes the laptop up normally. Dell logo comes up, then the lock screen shows up and everything is perfect and how it should be.
If you run into the same issue as I did after fresh install of Win 11, please do post a response here.
Also, to answer your 2nd question, your wifi driver will be missing during the 1st initialization after installation process. You won't be able to proceed further until you select a wifi network for the laptop to finish setting up. You need a USB wifi adapter like this. Then run Windows Update to get the internal drivers updated and everything else before removing that USB wifi adapter.
Hope this helps!
Are you stuck on the Windows initial setup screen?
What you need is a USB wifi-adapter, so that the OS can detect wifi and complete the setup. The wifi hardware came from your laptop is too new for the stock drivers to be included when you reformat. when you get that and plug it in, it will detect wifi and that's it. After all updates are run and completed, your internal wifi should get the new drivers automatically from Windows Update.
You can get that device on Amazon or local Best Buy/Walmart/electronic stores.

I wonder if it's the replacement fan. i've read through several discussions and this error seems to occassionally pop up. I added 2 Noctua fans and used a Noctua splitter to replace the stock case fan last week and I don't receive the error. If you want to try a different fan, I used this:

XPS 15 (9570) as well as the Precision Workstation 5530 which has the same chassis. Note that the 4K screen models and other models with the larger battery can't mount a 2.5" drive. Only models with a 56Wh battery can use a 2.5" drive. If your model didn't come with a 2.5" drive from the factory, then you need to purchase a mounting bracket and cable.

As far as 980 Pro - I'll be honest, I'm not really a hardware guy. I want the 2TB size - I see I can get that in a 970 evo as well. Is that a better choice? Mostly I do photo editing and light video editing.
Yes, I do this all the time with my 9380.
I use this vertical stand (there's plenty on amazon like this) and connect it to a 4K monitor + mechanical keyboard. Here's a tutorial on how to set up the laptop to run with the lid closed. When connected to the external monitor, the built-in display is disabled and the external monitor is the primary display.
The Dell docks make a lot of noise. It sucks because only the Dell docks support 130w charging. I currently use the CableMatters TB3 dock with the Dell charger.
I use one of these to dock my phone to my TB16 (personal project). It does the job but it's overpriced AF. It's supposedly 100W-capable, but I haven't tested it. You won't find higher than 100W these days.
I was just about to buy that too so upgrading my XPS 15 to 40 GB. 8GB + 32 GB. So it definitely doesn't work?
Awesome. Same as mine

I have exactly the same XPS 9700 and a Samsung Ultrawide 5120x1440. Also connected through a USB C cable and all is working flawlessly! My only guess would be to check whether your USB C cable is up to the task, because your XPS certainly is! This the cable I use and does the Ultrawide job like it should... P.S. 5120x1440 is really nice, both in office environment, as well as for gaming!
There is no limit to the data size, but the physically largest is a 2280. Of all the components in the laptop, the SSD is not going to be a major draw of power; saying that, it's really up to you if you want performance or battery. I have 2 of this in mine, haven't noticed any issues with heat or power drain.
Perfect! Yeah, I'd rather know it fits perfectly. $20+ isn't much when I spent $2,000 on the laptop. Thanks, Odd_Operation4745!

On sale at Amazon right now: https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-2x16GB-Laptop-Memory-CT2K16G4SFRA32A/dp/B08C4X9VR5/ref=sr\_1\_3?crid=2JDM6F5QZ8OKH&keywords=Crucial%2B32gb%2Bram&qid=1642289011&sprefix=crucial%2B32gb%2Bram%2B%2Caps%2C118&sr=8-3&th=1
How does your 64gb example compare to this one, which is what i located through my limited research

Ah, wow. Yeah, just saw a Reddit post and Dell Support post about how the RAM has to be 1.2V and not XMP and that nothing faster than CL22 works anyway in the 9510s. Good thing you checked.
Yeah, what you've picked should work. This one, too, which is a bit cheaper:

For 64GB, hard to find good value options with CL16 timings. Maybe this:
If 32GB might be enough, then anything here with confirmed CL16 timings will be great. Wouldn't worry about brand too much. (Ignore all of the sponsored listings.)

The cheapest solution then would be to use a dock/adapter and a charger. You could even get a simple USB C adapter and a charger. Judging by your currency, you're from Australia, right? I quickly searched on Amazon I found this one. It is supposed to be for a MacBook, but should work for the XPS too.
You would be to use 2 cables, but that's a big saving.
> I used a bogus recovery email address. Now I forgot the password and pin and can't get in.
Well. Mistakes were made. I guess.
If you have computer with Ubuntu, you can easily download and burn a new disk image (to USB drive and boot your new XPS from the USB).
1) Download Etcher (https://www.balena.io/etcher/)
2) Download Win10 iso
3) Stick USB into your Ubuntu machine.
4) Use Etcher to write the Win10 iso image on the USB stick.
5) Boot your XPS from USB (mash F12 when you see the DELL logo on boot up screen).
I was having trackpad issues where it would freeze/ lag and also right click issues where the entire touch pad would be right click sometimes
So far those issues are gone with the fresh clean install
I would say that dell power manager is needed as my game would lag when in optimized mode and when i put it to performance mode it worked better, although i dont have it installed right now so i will try playing the game and check how it works
After the clean install the 1517 color profile on the 9710 was gone, it appeared after i installed the Dolby Vision Panel Driver, i still did not install premier color app
I actually use mine on my lap and this pad works really well
Undervolt - I haven't tried it yet, but it looks possible.
Stand - it's only been a week. They seem fine so far, but the angle might be too high for some. I also looked into other similar standing feet on Amazon but these are the slimmest that I could find. Either this or you can try the MOFT ones (although they might block the vent)
Not sure what country you're based in but this is the case I got for my XPS 15:https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B094HX5MYJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
It's been great so far, really good quality and stiffness to the outer shell. Any sleeve described as a 14" one will be the best fit probably, and not allow the laptop to slide around inside.

Do you recommend this kit? it is also 1.2v. Would it work?
I’m inexperienced as well, but I usually use CineBench (available on the Microsoft store) to compare performance of CPUs, and 3DMark (free version available on Steam) for GPU testing. Additionally, I use HWinfo to monitor my temps whilst doing the benchmarks.
When comparing the two, it might be worth undervolting the i9 on the 7590 to improve thermals and prevent throttling.
I agree with Scotty_uk 1. Crucial RAM is the best. 16 GB is much enough unless you are doing intensive programing tasks on massive data or Graphics rendering. 2. Samsung EVO as M.2 SSD is one of the fastest drives. I have been using it for a year now and my laptop never been faster.
To check the bus speed of your RAM :
https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
Use CPU-Z which will show your RAM bus speed and DDRX type.

Fits my 9710 perfectly and I use it every day. The pocket will fit what you need. That being said I wish it had a handle or a shoulder strap.
What do you mean?
I mean, it looks like (even by mistake) the top of the Pinnacle can be easily opened and all the interior exposed. I don't think that's good. Unfortunately there are no reviews of this backpack to confirm before buying.
Ok, so I could just get a 65w charger and save money instead of getting the ones linked above. Kind of weird from Dell to do this. Thanks for the info. Btw, do you know if this is an official charger?
I got this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08M3SD3T4?th=1 - it came with screw and thermal pad, just make sure you get the right one for your spare slot - my slot one was the empty one.
As far as opening it - the ifixit kits are perfect but especially in this instance the basic prying and opening kit will do if you have the right screwdrivers already - just work your way round the edge with the picks https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/Prying-and-Opening-Tool-Assortment/IF145-364?o=1
Unfortunately it looks like the Crucial link isn’t working. I tried accessing their site on my own and it looks like they’re having problems.
Anyways, I am about to receive my 9510, and I did some research a while back and determined this RAM is compatible. I was going to buy it when I got my laptop. The laptop only supports DDR4 3200. I also saw some articles about laptops not booting when the RAM timings weren’t the same. I believe the timings of CL22-22-22-52 work.
As for tools, you will need a Torx #5 screwdriver. Dell has a nice thorough Service Manual that walks you through all the steps. Hopefully this helps.
Okay I see. I think I'm leaning towards the Crucial because it seems the reviews are a lot better and reliable. However, I'm in no rush to get it right now. It's also available on Amazon too since the Crucial website is down.
FOR ANY WHO STUMBLE ACROSS THIS THREAD IN THE FUTURE:
After going through the $100 more Crucial Ballistix and Kingston Fury RAM modules only to get the "unsupported memory" flashes, I'm glad I ran across this thread that pointed me to the G.Skill RIPJaws. It works beautifully and, according to the BIOS, is running at 3200 MHz. I haven't confirmed or benchmarked. Just happy it works. On BIOS version 1.4.1 right now. Thanks for the shared info all!
Bought these exact ones (that u/hawkeyeTX referred to):

I am not familiar enough with the British market but ordering from Amazon might be an option. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Genuine-9370-Primary-Battery/dp/B07N88MZDS/ref=psdc_430485031_t1_B07PLDQM1C this one looks promising as it is a genuine battery.
I use one of these and it's been great.
Sure. It's this: https://www.amazon.com/G-Skill-RipJaws-PC4-25600-CL22-22-22-52-F4-3200C22D-64GRS/dp/B08H2HC87Z
I'll be flying back home tomorrow and will install it then if you want to wait for me to confirm it works.
I use these, they are great, small, simple and low cost:

I have a 9710 and can't comment on the 9510, but others here say the 9510 can handle the games you mention. If you want to upgrade to a 9710 with a vapor chamber for much better thermals and a GPU that's twice as fast, though, Amazon currently has the 9710 with a 3060 for 10% off.

A note about the SSD copper heat spreader if you install a 2nd SSD.
The 9510 does not come with a cover for the empty SSD slot. You have to buy one. They are on amazon but be careful to buy the right one. Compared to the 9500, Dell changed the labels on the SSD slots. so the "SSD1" slot on 9500 is labeled "SSD2" on the 9510.
The covers on Amazon right now are for 9500 but they work for the 9510 as long as you account for the label swap. The correct one to buy is the cover for a 9500 that says it's for the first slot ("SSD1"). I got this one and it works on my 9510: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08M3SD3T4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I didn't pick up that you're talking about one of those adapters with replaceable tips. Others have pointed out that maybe your laptop has an issue, but it's also possible that something is going on with the tips that's causing this.
Assuming your XPS has a USB-C charging port (all the current models do, don't know about older ones), then you could just get a standard 45W or higher USB-C charger, without replaceable tips. It might work better. Here's one for $20.
Would this fan work?: https://www.amazon.com/Vetroo-Cooler-Processor-Universal-Addressable/dp/B08F21X2VP/ref=psdc_11036281_t3_B00TBHYYFK
So I would replace the fan in there with this one? I am a beginner..
I actually took a screw off the motherboard of my decade old MacBook that seemed to fit until the thermal cover I ordered arrives. I know I didn't exchange the outer casing screws and even kept them in the same hole they were removed from (which probably doesn't matter). This is the thermal cover I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/Deal4GO-Heatsink-Thermal-Latitude-Precision/dp/B08DMRJPW1/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=B08DMRJPW1&qid=1630000215&sr=8-1
Installing a second SSD was an afterthought and I hadn't even considered getting thermal tape or a cover and screw.
No thermal issues. They fixed that with teh 9710. I have no looked at the actual temps, have not had a reason to. XPS 17 has the 11th gen cpu with better thermals, and the XPS 17 has better cooling and the heat pipes. FHD screen looks great, you won't be disapointed by it. I only have the 4k version becasue I'm getting mine replaced due to a memory error(No idea why they didn't just send me new memory but I'm not complaining.) FHD and 4k both have cons/pros but unless you need the 4k screen for the touch or video editing you probably won't notice the difference. My girlfriend couldn't and I barely can, but it is slightly better on 4k video. 4k screen is glossy which can be annoying too. I like the colors better on the FHD but luckily I proof my photography edits on one of my external monitors. The laptop stand I use is identical to this.. Send me a chat or repost here if you have any more questions.
