Hello and welcome!
Letterboxd is probably the best thing I've been using over the past 3 and a bit years. I'm still obsessed with it. It's really helped to enthuse my passion for film.
I would put #1 and #2 in Letterboxd, but that's it. I track TV shows (regular series, mini-series, web-series) that I watch in Trakt.tv, as that is designed for that purpose. Items 3 through 6 all have certain aspects of movies to them, but so does Netflix's Daredevil and you certainly wouldn't track that on Letterboxd.
However, there is are some TV adjacent things I have tracked in Letterboxd. The first is one-off holiday specials like the wretched David S Pumpkins Halloween Special from last year. The second is TV episodes that are cut into "movies" and shown in theaters. The only recent example is ABC's The Inhumans where the first two episodes were cut into a "movie" and shown in IMAX theaters in order to punish paying audiences for their foolish spendthrift ways. But stuff like that used to happen fairly often in the 70s and 80s.
FWIW, I also track short films in Letterboxd when they are available. I generally only bother to search for shorts that I would expect to be in Letterboxd because either I watched them on a film platform (like Filmstruck), I watched them at a film festival or they had credits and other markers of film-ness even if I watched them on Vimeo or YouTube.
I've never looked at where to watch..
But I'm here to say that Pro is completely worth it for the stats though. You get stats for every year + all time stats if you go through and mark everything you've seen (is quicker than it sounds)
But yea, it adds so much fun to me deciding what to watch.. knowing how it will impact my stats :)
If you get a Pro subscription it will generate all time and yearly stats pages for all the movies you’ve logged. It’s only useful if you provided a date when you added diary entries. Sadly, the pro subscription also includes an import function from CSV, meaning you could have avoided all that manual entry.
I'll recommend based on what I've seen recently and really liked: (in no particular order)
Collateral (2004)
Wag The Dog (1997)
Stranger Than Fiction (2006)
Frances Ha (2012)
There Will Be Blood (2008)
This is me
I have a list for my favorite visual films but not my all time favorites. A few of my all time favorites do appear in this list though. If I had to pick a single film to be a favorite it would probably be L'Avventura.
https://letterboxd.com/focus/list/favorite-visual-films-of-all-time/
I've said it before on another thread but I really like Jordan Rowe's reviews. I appreciate the long reviews on the site but prefer smaller, concise reviews since that's how I try to write mine.
I’d suggest Mullvad for VPN. Just have it running anytime you have your torrent client open and you should be good. Torrenting really isn’t that difficult, just do a little Googling on how to get up and running.
Hi there! I am Gianpiero, the developer of the app. We are searching some funds for the Android version. If you're interested, you can support it from here too. Thank you so much!
Followed you! Don't be a stranger here's my profile https://letterboxd.com/Mattiewhitmore/
Also, review as many films that you watch as you can, even if it's brief thoughts or something quippy. I much prefer when I can see a person's personality on their profile :)
Ok, here are my favorite comedies. Arranged more or less by favorite, but not definitively.
And here are a few TV shows:
Anime:
George Sluizer directed the great Dutch thriller (<em>Spoorlos</em>) (a.k.a. <em>The Vanishing</em>) in 1988, then directed the not-very-good American remake in 1993.
Almost at 5k but not quite. It makes me wish TV shows didn't take up so much of my time.
https://letterboxd.com/ImToad/
Also everyone I'm following has watched about 5k+
If you're into Chinese action/martial arts movies I review them at the rate of about 1 every 2 days, not that long but still with enough details to give you an idea of what to expect, with the few occasional jokes thrown in there but never the whole focus of the review.
https://letterboxd.com/Daxtreme/
Oh and I follow back
https://letterboxd.com/mikepalmes
I basically watch anything from total trash over blockbusters up to avant-garde cinéma. Currently going through the 1001 Movies you need to watch before you die and trying to write at least a short review for each view.
Hey guys, I occasionally write some reviews, specially for recent movies, but also review some old ones based on a cool list I've made.
Follow me and I'll follow you back!
just found out about this site a few days ago...came to reddit to see if there was a sub about it and perfect. needed people to follow so will be adding all of you.
heres mine: https://letterboxd.com/sacrificebunts/
gonna spend sometime this weekend prob adding more films
Been logging consistently for a bit over a month and I watch films most days! Follow me n I'll follow back, looking to get inspired by other peoples favs - I make films so I watch bits of everything!
I created an letterboxd account 3 days ago. Right now, I am trying my best to mark the movies I watched and to add reviews. You can follow me there. Of course, I will follow you guys back. (:
https://letterboxd.com/Problematist/
I was going to say that I'm not going to follow back but then again you took your time to look at my profile all the way and even follow me and such so at that moment I always feel obligated to follow you back so I probably will follow back.
Pretty late probably but just discovered this subreddit! Relatively new to letterboxd. I log most films with either a short consensus or a full review. Just enjoy writing about what I see. Hope to follow you all!
Hi everyone. I just recently joined Letterboxd as it seemed to be one of the best ways to log my watched films. Movies have always been part of my life but for a long time I only considered myself to be a casual viewer who only consumed movies without thinking about them after viewing.
Now I try to write mini-reviews on everything I watch in order to get more enjoyment out of them. I tend to gravitate towards horror/drama/thriller movies but will give anything a chance. You can find my profile here: https://letterboxd.com/Krusiv/
Just created my account last night! Looking forward to making friends and having discussions about movies. Will be going through various lists tonight and marking the movies I've watched as seen.
My account is https://letterboxd.com/talkingpictures/
EDIT: Just followed everyone in this thread.
Here's mine! https://letterboxd.com/terransky16/
I usually follow back. Cheers.
P.S.: My rating system is different and may appear too critical to some people. My purpose is to spread out the 4+ starred movies and show their comparisons better. Basically, my 2 stars rating would mean 3 in general and my 3.5 would mean 4 in general.
https://letterboxd.com/jayshah096/films/
Follow me for a follow back! I liked movies in general but I'm not too pretentious by any means. I spent 10-20 minutes and review everything I watch, and its usually turns out to be pretty long but not too in depth. usually just a few thoughts and flaws/pros and you can compare! Hope to meet some of you there!
I don't go out of my way to be a contrarian, but I didn't love La La land. Also, I gave Wild Wild West four stars. Feel free to check out my reviews and follow if you want. My profile is here
I'm 15 and I have 87 films logged; I just recently got into movies and I'm trying to watch as much as I can. Trying to watch atleast 100 movies by the end of this year. https://letterboxd.com/Macedog/
Edit: 87 films
Hi there! I am Gianpiero, the developer of the app. Thank you, we really appreciate it.

Dude, along the same lines, you should join in the Alphabet Club Challenge. It's in week 3 but if you follow the rules explained and watch your first 3 weeks to catch up then you could still join :) Was gonna follow you too but we're already following each other haha https://letterboxd.com/super_cannes/list/the-alphabet-club/
I like your taste! Here’s my profile, my favorite genre is horror too: https://letterboxd.com/thezodiackiller/
I mostly do ratings and miss but I have been doing some long-form reviews recently. As far as recommendations, lately I have been recommending Hereditary to literally everyone because it instantly became one of my all-time favorites.
I've followed. Based on your favourites I'm intrigued to see you spread your letterboxd wings. Be sure to rate/review the films you watch, and don't be afraid to comment and like other reviews you have a strong opinion about :) Here's my profile https://letterboxd.com/mattiewhitmore/
I’m pretty sure I’ve shared it quite enough in this sub already, and I hate to be spammy so I don’t reply to the “follow for follow” threads a lot.
I’m watching 365 movies in 2018 and I write some thoughts on most. My stats page has some lists of favourites in different categories as well and I’m building it to make it look good and represent my tastes
Glad to see you're diving in as deep as you are. I've not been too active the past few weeks (And have only been there about 3 months), but I'll be diving back in soon https://letterboxd.com/Cine_Wolf/
I write poor reviews only because I'm trying to journal what I felt watching it. I love reading other people's experiences in their reviews!
I'm here
Also, I love Nicolas Winding Refn
I think we have decently similar taste, so I followed you. My profile is pretty lackluster (i.e. only two reviews, a very tentative top 3), but I try to at least rate what I can, and I log everything. I'd like to write more reviews in the future!
I've followed you. Great to see you loved Punch-Drunk Love. It might be among his weakest, but it's so layered. It's a Superman story the way PTA does it, with tons of subtle references. Especially in how the film uses blue and red. As soon as I realized it, I was hooked and loved the film. Need to rewatch it soon.
My profile: https://letterboxd.com/Choekaas/
I think there's some fantastic films in there. Never hurts to watched well-loved films, but don't lose your identity with regards to what you love in a film. It's so easy to slip into being overly objective about every film you watch, sometimes you just love what you love. I followed you man here's my profile - https://letterboxd.com/Mattiewhitmore/
My good friend Erik Bajzert put it best over here: https://letterboxd.com/bajzus/list/in-defense-of-the-one-sentence-meme-joke/
I write so many long form reviews all the time. I don't mind seeing the one-liner reviews because I just like seeing people having fun with the site in whatever ways they can. Also, we can't always say that every one-liner review is inherently bad when there are so may long form reviews often by people that complain about such people that don't really add much to discuss about the film. It's a social media site, not the end of the world.

I basically watch anything from total trash over blockbusters up to avant-garde cinéma. Currently going through the 1001 Movies you need to watch before you die and one movie a day while trying to write a short review if I feel there‘s something to say. None of those joke-reviews.
Interesting selection! Shame I've only seen a few of them. Here's mine to compare notes and shit. Probably not as refined as yours but still fun to share.
My library had a blu ray copy which is how I watched it several years back. However, it has been added to IMDB Free since then if you’re okay with ads, and you can also rent it on Amazon for $1 if you don’t want ads.
.....of course, there are.....other, methods coughhackcoughcoughPleaseDontBanMecoughcoughcough
Last night, I watched Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on Amazon Prime. It was honestly really good. Turns out it's based on another movie from 1964 called Bedtime Story. You can find that one on YouTube, here. I'm part way through it now. It's fun to compare how it's different and similar to the remake. Anyway, I only mention these because I literally saw them last night, and I think they're good. I'll try to remember to give you some other comedy recommendations. Here's my Letterboxd.

Follow me and I'll follow you back!
I generally only follow people that either I already know personally or have a wide array of reviews and comments and lists and ratings. That said, you seem to have pretty good taste in film. So keep rating films and make some lists and stay active - people will naturally begin to follow you. Especially if you are reviewing very new films (i.e. still in theaters).
If you wanna follow-me, feel free: https://letterboxd.com/Andrew_James/
Do you mean you can't find them on Letterboxd? If so, I think these are the films:
https://letterboxd.com/film/99/
https://letterboxd.com/film/black-2015-1/
If that's not the issue, let me know.
SilentDawn is the best. That guy really knows how to write and often times I find his reviews better and more incisive than most film critics. Would recommend following him. He's definitely better than those users who try to be hip by writing one lame line in lower caps and have huge followings.
https://letterboxd.com/crantiuscolto/list/alphabet-favourites/
You know, I think I've somehow never seen a movie starting with X. I'm also not as in love with my I, K, O, U, V, and Z as I am with the others.
Just got started a few days. Really enjoying the experience. There a lot of movies I've seen but have chosen to not rate because I saw them a long time ago and don't feel comfortable rating them on my memory.
I feel like such a noob compared to you all. Only 513 movies.
Also made a couple of lists so far, for Pixar and Ghibli.
If you don't mind the poor aesthetics RYM is pretty good too.
But if it makes you feel any better, it's one person that's writing that and it doesn't represent the entire site. Send them an email or tweet expressing your concern.
I'm looking for a site like that as well. So far, I've found MyVdeoGameList, you can log games (currently playing, completed etc.) but I'm not quite satisfied with their database.
https://letterboxd.com/theguitarerguy/ hmuuu I've had this for like 2.5 years but just started reviewing. Doing a 3 film a director challenge for a bunch of movies and review them. Check em out and give me review advice and come talk about movies!!
It's a really great film, with a score from one half of daft punk.
My review is here if you want to get offended: https://letterboxd.com/darrenf/film/irreversible/
But yeah, I totally understand what you are saying. In her scavenger hunt she made people watch at least one communism propaganda film unironically
It Comes at Night and I Don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore are my favorites so far.
Here is my top list for 2017 so far.
Jordan Horowitz- the motherfucking producer of La La Land
Wiley Wiggins- actor from such films as Dazed and Confused and [insert another film here]
thats all, except for Mike Portnoy but thats already been commented, but also some podcasters as well but they aren't really that famous
Oh my god, buckle up.
From the beginning of the Wikipedia page:
>Director Shin had been kidnapped in 1978 by North Korean intelligence on the orders of Kim Jong-il, son of the then-ruling Kim Il-sung and was coerced into making several films as a director, with Pulgasari being his final before he and his wife, actress Choi Eun-hee, escaped to the United States.
It's an insane Godzilla ripoff made by a kidnapped film director. And yes, there's a book that goes into detail about the whole experience.
A) It can be easily found on a certain Russian social networking site.
and
B) I recommend in general you invest in something like a LG DP132 (Amazon USA link) or whatever similar cheap all region player is available in your country if you're not USA based, it'll really unlock your movie watching potential.
King Kong vs Godzilla (1962) does have a region A 4K + Bluray release, but limited to the japanese market.

Since we talking about japanese movies:
- Spirited Away or any Ghibli in a new 4K transfer would be just amazing.
- Ringu 4K
- Hausu 4K

Movies that afaik never had a full HD release:
- Linda Linda Linda
- Suicide Club
- Both Higuchinsky's Junji Ito adaptations: Nagai Yume and Uzumaki.
Fellow Dutchie here, get NordVPN during black friday sale!! I paid like 30? Euros for 3 years (cant' remember the exact amount since it was 1.5 years back). Works like a charm for basically all streaming sites. Netflix sometimes catches it during a film but literally after refreshing the site once it works again.
Wow, that's impressive to hear! If it's something that you deem shareable, I would really enjoy reading it!
I have seen Licorice Pizza. While my objective rating was lower than his average film, I believe I wrote something about how it may be the most PTA film yet, a film he truly made for himself and I respect it for that.
Have you read this yet? If not, I highly recommend, it is completely worth the price of the hardcover. It's a beautiful book and one of the best in depths look at his career.
as far as I can tell, it's unfortunately not really available anywhere online, but mondo macabro released a beautiful new blu ray scan which is not region locked, looks absolutely fantastic, and is probably the best way to watch it. it's available here . if you don't own a blu ray player i, unfortunately, have no idea where to find a copy online.
You can use your profile RSS to get ratings and reviews, then you just add it to your site.
You can also try and use IFTTT which creates connections between services, in this case, Letterboxd and twitter or Letterboxd and a Google Sheet. But this is more limited, since you have to create another bridge between twitter or google sheet to your site.
I started listening to directors commentary tracks. There are so many podcasts, I’m sure others here will have more recommendations, try Filmspotting and the DGA Directors Cut. As far as books go, I used this text in college. It’s a good place to start!
Not seen mentioned here yet: Beanpole (2019). Watching it lead to me reading the extraordinary book <em>The Unwomanly Face of War: An Oral History of Women in World War II</em>.
I can't say definitively as I don't know the coding of Letterboxd, but most places for ratings use a bayesian average. This is done so an item (movie, product, album, etc.) with high/low ratings but few amount of reviews isn't skewed compared to an item that had far more reviews.
This website breaks it down pretty well as they provide code for a bayesian average.

It's more than 15 years old, tracks and recommends both movies and tv series and has mobile apps.
If you do check it out - I'd love to hear your feedback.
Disclaimer: I'm the founder
I have approx. 2500 movies watched and enjoy making lists. My two latest lists are "It's HEREDITARY" which includes any film mentioned as an inspiration/influence on Ari Aster, and "Home on the (De)range(d)" which is messed up westerns and neo-westerns. Add me if ya dig!

I'm afraid I'm not quite able to manage a movie a day anymore, but I still use the site every day and am really active. I really like your favourites so I followed :) here's my profile https://letterboxd.com/Mattiewhitmore/
Hey, just dropped you a follow! Also a big fan of horror films, just watched The Babadook as part of a challenge I'm involved with on Letterboxd. You've seen a lot more classic horrors that I need to catch up on!
Let me know if there's any you recommend! :)
Nice profile! I particularly like your lists, maybe I should start doing a best to worst too.
Heres mine if you're interested: https://letterboxd.com/thecuriousbowl/
Here is my letterboxed
Always looking for new followers and maybe even get a comment or two on movies that I see. I just updated it yesterday with Mission Impossible: Fallout
Fairly active, review occasionally. Some of my reviews are genuine, some are a shitty attempt at "humor". I like making lists too. Click the follow button, you~~'ll probably~~ won't regret it.
Hi! I just started using Letterboxd maybe a month ago and am having a good time so far. I try to write reviews on most things I see and I try to watch movies from all different genres. Give me a follow and let me know what you think! My profile on Letterboxd https://letterboxd.com/CoolGuy1492
just followed man, horror's my favorite genre too. havent gotten around to doing any reviews yet but i do have a list of my favorite horror films on my profile
It's splendid that you cover the Berlinale. Last year's winner, On Body and Soul, was such a mesmerizing experience.
Here's my profile: https://letterboxd.com/choekaas/
we seem to have pretty different tastes, but don't think thats necessarily a bad thing. gave you a follow and heres my profile if anyones interested: https://letterboxd.com/echo997/
I haven't made lists, but when I joined Letterboxd I started looking at the stats and saw some years I had missing. For years I hadn't seen anything from 1947. I have seen movies from 2018 to 1887, which is the latest year I haven't seen anything. And the 1880's are pretty problematic, since there isn't much to take from that decade compared to the 1890s.
I actually just watched one yesterday that my local Regal was playing.
Russian flick called Attraction (Притяжение). Same director as Stalingrad and 9th Company, both of which I'd highly recommend.
Coneheads
Flight of the Navigator
Independence Day
E.T. The Extraterrestrial
Mars Attacks!
The Day the Earth Stood Still
District 9
The Fifth Element
Earth Girls Are Easy
Edit: Gonna add more as I think of them. Also thanks OP, this helped me kill the last hour of work today.
Followed you man! Word of warning, a fair few people on letterboxd will follow for a follow then not interact at all. Not me though ;) https://letterboxd.com/Mattiewhitmore/
Word of advice mate, you should log movies as you watch them in your diary. Not massively important just neater and makes it easier for people who follow you to track what films you're watching. Followed you :) here's my profile https://letterboxd.com/Mattiewhitmore/
Hey man, I've been on the site for 4 years. Watched over 1100 films, rated every one of them and am super active. You have an awesome array of movie taste! My profile - https://letterboxd.com/Mattiewhitmore/
I'm not talking about logging the films. I'm talking about having that collection appear on Letterboxd, like how https://www.themoviedb.org/collection/9735-friday-the-13th-collection?language=en-US was moved over as https://letterboxd.com/films/in/friday-the-13th-collection/by/release-earliest/size/large/.
I've tried Trakt, but I was misinformed about it. I thought it was just a TV tracking website, but it was both, so it was unnecessary for me (it would be too much of a hassle to log all the movies from Letterboxd into Trakt anyway). I've never heard of the TVTime app. How is it?
My Letterboxd profile: https://letterboxd.com/Choekaas/
https://letterboxd.com/ekrons/
I don't know if I've rated more than the average user, but I've seen quite a lot of films over the last few years and almost always rate them.
If you like movies like Paterson and "real people in real scenarios-like movies" than i think you would like this: https://letterboxd.com/film/the-second-mother/ (The Second Mother 2015)
And if you are bored with normal movies maybe my list can help: https://letterboxd.com/rinku/list/a-list-of-peculiar-films/
I totally agree with you on the asian cinema part.
But you haven't watched a single Golden Age hong kong movie! What are you waiting for? :D It's like... the best part! :O
In case you're curious for recommendations, here's my profile : https://letterboxd.com/Daxtreme/
I just followed you btw
Give me a follow back sometimes if you want, I try to review a movie once about every 2 days. I'm into both mainstream and B-movies
We have a very similar bell curve for our ratings :P
Some really stellar favorites you've got there! I was actually just looking for some new people to follow, trying to update my following-list a bit. I think it's such fun following different people and especially reading their reviews and comments!
So thanks for this thread giving me some fresh faces to my feed. Here's my own profile: https://letterboxd.com/xplodera/
I track my tv shows on trakt.tv since they actually have the episodes of the show.
If the movie has been altered as much as MST3K does (audio overlays, video overlays, cutting out scenes, etc) I really don't consider it as watching the movie. Especially since I've seen some of the movies that MST3K has covered and they heavily edit the movies.
if letterboxd had full episode lists i would. but it doesn't, so i don't. i use trakt.tv for tv logging and letterboxd for movies. honestly tho, if i had found trakt first, i probably woulda just used that one exclusively. although i prefer letterboxd's entire setup much more.
I've been using SeriesGuide for Android for a very long time (at least since 2010?) and it uses trakt.tv for data synch. I use it primarily for keeping track of what TV shows I watch, but it does also keep track of films, so I had been using that until I discovered Letterboxd. It was sort of a painstaking process to move everything over, but now I keep them up to date in both places.
I just looked up an article about how people pirate films and this is the information in the article, I don’t know anything about it:
• get a decent VPN, NordVPN is apparently quite secure, fast and cheap • Download a torrent client, if you’re on a Mac, Transmission is well regarded • close browsers and anything else accessing the internet • turn on P2P servers only • open a private window in a browser of your choice • go to , browse Movies or search for one, sort by ‘Seeds’, pay attention to titles or any screenshot links in anything you find, you might get a cinema camera recording or not quite what you’re looking for • click ‘magnet link’ so you don’t have to download the torrent file • wait for it to finish downloading, which can be quick or slow depending on how many people are sharing, then close the client, browser and then disconnect the VPN • watch and enjoy
They often aren’t available from another distributor either. Ikiru only is available as DVD, Ran would be rentable on Amazon, these 4 films would be shipped from the UK. https://www.amazon.de/Kurosawa-Samurai-Collection-Blu-ray-Disc/dp/B00LA1ZV52 No really an option for his films.
Awesome - I didn't know this existed, I'm going to try it now.
I'd also recommend Movie Lens which 24hrs after signing up and rating stuff gives you absolutely fantastic recommendations via their wizard algorithm. Basically half of my watchlist is being recommended to me, even the more obscure stuff; it's spot on!
https://letterboxd.com/3pommesvertes/ I log, rate and review everything I watch. I try to keep it semi-serious but my reviews are usually short (not a native English speaker)
https://letterboxd.com/Choekaas/
Norwegian Letterboxd-user checking in. Consider my taste as varied, but love dramas with supernatural/sci-fi elements. Especially puzzle-movies that might take a couple of viewings to comprehend.

The famous people I follow really just include the drummer of Dream Theater Mike Portnoy and podcasters including (not really famous but I'll allow it):
Griffin and David from Blank Check
Andrew and Chris from We Hate Movies
Parker and Sean Byron from Junk Food Dinner
Literally everyone from the Companeros podcast
