like the other commenter said definitely don’t laminate your card, boosters will be coming and will most likely be added to your current card. I would recommend a 4x3 badge holder that are being sold for really cheap on amazon. Just buy a multipack for your Lolla squad and you’re chillin’. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08YFDZBV9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_QWMZ3HBYR4PXG7M737HQ
If you gotta buy inside, Wine is seriously the best bang for your buck. I was facing a bottle a day after a stiff pregame. Also - check the link below. You can get that pretty far up in the gooch. https://www.amazon.com/Collapsible-Reusable-Bottle-Carabiner-Activiva/dp/B01KP63N52/ref=sr_1_5?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1527111793&sr=1-5&keywords=plastic+bag+canteen
Is this your first festival? Maybe I came off as a bit too rude but it blows my mind that I belong to ~6 festival subreddits and this is the only one where I see someone post about a bag almost every week.
No security guard, standing in 90 degree heat, getting paid minimum wage, and dealing with already drunk 15 year olds at 11:30 AM is going to care your bag has 3 pockets instead of 2. Like...I get wanted to make sure your bag will make it in, but use some common sense. This rule exists so people don't bring in these. It isn't there to take everyone 2 minutes to go through security.
That same storm killed someone at a different concert in Wood Dale after the wind toppled over a tent. No way they'd risk that at a much larger festival attended by 100,000 people.

Theory, looking at the headliners OutKast, Skrillex, and The Glitch Mob's tour dates, I noticed one artist that appeared on all of their tours, Kavinsky. either way, Daft Punk/Kavinsky+SebastiAn. this is gonna be huge. I'll do more research.
Here's a link of his tour dates: http://www.songkick.com/artists/580030-kavinsky/calendar
Phones are snatched from front pockets and hands too. These people are ruthless. Plus, It's easy to forget and place your phone in the wrong spot. I use a travel/runners wallet to keep my stuff safe. It slides under my shirt, and I don't have to worry about the security of my goods.
Good post! This will be my first time going to Lollapalooza and I think it'll be great after this hellish year we've all had. I'm going alone and I just booked 5 nights at the Travelodge. I chose to pay at the hotel and the email I received from Hotels.com says I'm guaranteed my room. Is this true? There's no catch (aside from a 3% reservation fee from the hotel), they won't charge my card in advance, and I can just pay once I check in on the 28th? To me it seems good to be true, but it seems like it went smoothly. I'm just anxious because I've never done anything like this before (I'm 21) and I want to make sure I'm as prepared as I can be before everyone else finds out about Lolla and the prices skyrocket and rooms disappear.
Gonna be working full-time all summer towards this -- I cannot wait.
I was thinking of buying this bag. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, bring a refillable bottle and drink plenty of water are the most important things.
I would not recommend taking pepper spray; security will definitely take it if they find it. Lolla is pretty safe, but if you're worried about safety, definitely don't drink, smoke, or do any drugs to keep your wits about you. Also plan your exit from the festival at the end of the night. You can safely walk from the fest to the L, but don't go wandering around downtown by yourself at night.
I get sunscreen packets on Amazon. Those are the only “sealed sunscreen” I could find.

That sucks that your place fell through.
I would suggest finding a hotel or AirBnB near an L station somewhere outside of the Loop/Downtown. That way, you're not paying downtown prices but you can still hop on the L quickly and get right to the fest.
For example, looking at Hotels.com, the Marriott at UIC/Medical District has rooms for $217/night. From that hotel, you can hop on the Blue Line and be at the fest in 15 min. You could probably save some more money but taking a longer L ride. Or if you spend more, you could be in the Loop or Mag Mile and just walk to the fest.
I have no idea if you're limited by being under 21 though.

These are the shit.
I got a cute double pocket one from Amazon that I’ve used at all my festivals. It’s literally this one: SoJourner Holographic Rave Fanny Pack - Packs for festival women, men | Cute Fashion Waist Bag Belt Bags (Transparent - Purple) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075666D7F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MNPRA4RZTP64VHXCBKT6?psc=1 and it’s reasonable and holds up very well.
Yeah he used that name but when I contacted him via email the email responded with what I assumed to be his real name and I eventually found him here: https://www.linkedin.com/pub/devin-jones/77/806/167
Seems like drawstring bags have to still be clear. Most of the clear drawstring bags I see on Amazon are 13 x 17, which is technically a little too big but might be ok. This one meets the criteria. Anyone have links to any others that are ok?
Aluminum water bottles are ok though.
To this point, I always use Apple Pay at festivals. If you have it on your Apple Watch, it can make checkout so easy.
For ID’s I use this retractable plastic holder on my belt loop for easy access and security. 2 Pack Heavy Duty Retractable Badge Holders with Carabiner Reel Clip and Vertical Style Clear ID Card Holders, 24 inches Thick Kevlar Pull Cord

I get sunscreen packets on Amazon. They are literally the only sealed sunscreen I can found lol. But I do like that you don’t have to carry a whole bottle all the time

This is the one I use it's a bit pricey but you can easily find off brand ones that will be just fine. Now make sure you take a look at the allowed bags before you go buy something. There is also a line that's much shorter if you don't bring a bag but personally I think it's worth the extra wait to have water on me all the time, it gets hot in the August sun and if you're drinking alcohol it's even more important to stay hydrated. You have to bring the "bladder" in empty but there are free water filling stations all over the park.
Guys please I cannot recommend this enough

Please buy and please keep your phone safe. Someone in 2020 successful got my phone out my pocket but luckily my friend stopped them. Ever since then I never go to a festival without this. Please please please. Remember first step for having fun is being prepared
Oh shit, never thought about how much of a headache this would be for anyone without a US issued ID. Other than the locker idea that people have said I don't know what else you can do
- I don't think a picture will work at all. Maybe consider a small crossbody fanny pack put over your shoulder that keeps it on your chest - no way it'll get stolen/ there. Something like this. You can get it delivered same day to wherever you are staying in Chicago
Take breaks and sit in the shade. Some of us bring little powdered electrolyte packets (think liquid IV or Gatorade brand) in pocket or shoe to mix with water. I also bought this hat from Amazon, you wet it and shake it and it feels so refreshing! Also, bring sunscreen si you don’t burn- 3.4 oz or less and no aerosol spray. MISSION Cooling Bucket Hat- UPF... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YN7N8GB?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
https://smile.amazon.com/REINOS-Hydration-Backpack-Included-Festivals/dp/B07FJM1RZ9/ I ordered this one but haven't received it yet. It cost me $10 less on eBay actually, but it was only available in pink from the seller I used. The reviews are great, and the warranty is lifetime.
First timer here :)
I’m confused by the bag policy. On the website, it sounds like clutches and small bags are only allowed one pocket. The bag I have is clear and fits within the size requirements, but it has a couple of pockets. Does the pocket requirement also apply to clear bags?
For context, here is the link to the bag I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MW1CMXY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I doubt you would be allowed to bring in a football helmet. If you really need head protection you could probably bring in a soft padded helmet like this - https://www.amazon.com/COOLOMG-Headgear-Protector-Goalkeeper-Adjustable/dp/B08LGCW9N7
I've always used a fanny pack and then zip tie the clip so someone can't unclip it from me. I almost always keep my phone in my hand with a wrist strap around my wrist. This is the one I have which comes with a short and long strap: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08D67S21Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
People, people, people...
It's a week+ away. No one knows nothin' yet. Don't even look at the forecast until Tuesday, and don't post about it till Thursday morning (or Wednesday if yer doing that Spoon/Cage/Beck thing).
Also, https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/Grant+Park+IL+60940:4:US is where you look, next week. Hope this helps.
Yeah, Chicago has some extra taxes and stuff on hotels, and they've been progressively cracking down on Airbnb to collect the same dues. Here's Airbnb's guidelines about what you're supposed to have in Chicago. Also depending on where you live specific buildings and neighborhoods hate them more.
That being said, this WGN report talks about how it's more focused on people using Airbnb as a main business than people renting out a spare room in their house.
I was just fartin' around on AirBnB, and I stumbled upon this:
It was the cheapest listing I saw there, though I didn't search much... and it's in my neighborhood. Ha. It's a bit of a walk to a train station (the 'M' logos on the side map), through a rough but gentrifying part of the city; there was an adage that everything Rogers Ave. touches is a no-go zone. It's getting better, but won't be fully gentrified by this July. It's a 40-45 min train ride from Rogers Park to Lolla.
So poke around. Look for 'M' train logos.
Has anyone considered that Kausea is themselves.. simply a band? An act, as all the rest? Underground as they may be. Maybe there is simply some personal connections to someone high-up in the festival. I found this... thus my speculations. http://www.songkick.com/artists/7971928-kausea
airbnb is probably your best bet! i did a quick look for you and found this apartment that's available, and you guys would be splitting the $450~ total 7 ways, so it'd be super cheap. there are a ton of others on there though so check it out for yourself. good luck!
Dude I’m SO pissed they nixxed clear backpacks when a month ago they said it was fine Hoping this will be OK since I had to order last minute

Drawstring bags are fine. It says they have to be clear but I would guarantee they sell a drawstring bag inside the festival that is not clear. I don’t think security will care.
If you want to be sure they do sell clear ones
so is a clear bag with two shoulder straps and 2 pockets forbidden? the one i have is within the size perimeter and i wouldn’t even call the front pocket a “pocket” as it doesn’t protrude at all and it is more of a slot. this is the link for reference https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WNDKM9G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_HDXAPR712EF371903TY3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I also geeked out and bought one of these....
They seal pretty tight, come in a 3 pack, but will def be making copies too! (Which ironically makes me think ppl will craft their own at home to avoid being tested... which makes me bringing my vax card in my handy-dandy cover even more geeky). :)
Never been to lollapalooza before so I don’t know what to expect with bag checks. This bag is 16x12.6x5. It is slightly bigger than the requirements would this still be okay? Also anything else I should know about the bags? Or other important things to note? https://www.amazon.com/Bag-Stadium-Approved-Transparent-Crossbody-Backpack/dp/B07RR7SLKN
Any idea if they are strict on the 2 pocket rule for hydration packs? I have this camelbak so I'm hesitant to bring it
Will work for sure! I bought an osprey one from REI for sale, ~$60-80 or so. Yeah, the price is steep but I have used it for 2 EDCs, 2 Moonrises, and about to be it's first time seeing lolla! I've gone camping, hiking, and biking with it too and its great. For me, I saw it as an investment since I knew I would use it heavily since I love being outdoors. I do recommend buying a cleaning kit from amazon, this is the one I bought recently:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BJ74DPH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hope that helps! Also, if you hang with molly, or have friends who do, when you share water with them, tell them to make sure they dont bite too hard on the valve. Some of my friends and or strangers who I have given water to have bitten through the rubber valve (easily replaced <$10). So yeah just something to keep in mind!
I’ve heard of people getting into fanny packs pretty easily. Flip belts are super awesome for festivals. They keep your things tight against you and there’s no way you wouldn’t notice someone reaching up your shirt or under your pants lol. they have them on amazon , and they also have different brands for a little cheaper
As others have stated, it depends on the security guard you encounter. However, I will say that I have managed to consistently get in lolla with the following drawstring bag here.
I couldn't find any at the local dollar store last year. But snagged a huge box of them on Amazon. It's lasted me through about 5 festivals now. https://www.amazon.com/MCR-Medical-Pack-Disposable-Ponchos/dp/B01092C09M/ref=sr_1_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1532106074&sr=1-3&keywords=Disposable+Rain+Ponchos+with+Hood%2C+MCR+Medical
But yes BRING A ZIPLOCK TOO!
Split a bottle of hydration supplements too here's one that I use that definitely help link. Basically replenishes your electrolytes which is crucial for staying hydrated. Take care, have fun and stay hydrated.
I'm all for fanny packs so I purchased one of these bad boys for festivals and works great for city festivals if you're THINKING about going directly out to the bars afterwards as it's more concealed. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XZF143Z/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It has 2 pockets, and usually you can bring in factory sealed water bottles to festivals so look for 16-20oz or it can easily hold a 24-30oz if you want to squeeze it in. Downside is the larger or more water you have the waistband is VERY ELASTIC so it can start to weigh down and essentially sag down your hip if you have phone, rechargeable juice pack, wallet, keys, 24oz full water bottle.
*Side Note: hand fans are a game changer
Hey skellytor, what about this drawstring bag? https://www.amazon.com/adidas-Alliance-Sport-Sackpack-5123724/dp/B003DBF0OY/ref=sr_1_9?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1531844563&sr=1-9&nodeID=15743181&psd=1&keywords=adidas+drawstring+bag
I have this exact same one. With the new bag rules, I'm concerned I won't be allowed inside with it and I'll be wasting time
I really don't want to be far in the back for Illenium (2nd fav artist behind ODESZA), Zedd, Galantis, or Goldfish, but with their type of music I really wouldn't expect it to attract a shit show crowd. I could be wrong though.
is this okay? I used it last year without a problem, it has two big pockets but it has those tiny flap pockets on the side straps and i’m pretty concerned. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071WNHM6F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_x9MwBb2C79E74)
If you are concerned though Amazon sells single use packets from Banana Boat and other brands. That is what we did, someone else in another thread recommended.
Banana Boat Sport Sunscreen, SPF 30 Protection lotion, Travel Packets 24 Packs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K58Q39Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DsjyBbE3C85F4
It worked just fine for me at SAMF snd Lolla '17
Even if they haven't yet (I honestly forget for last year), they very well may this year (HoB, other venues have moved to metal detectors in the past year, security is getting tighter).
So as other people have said, get plastic flasks. I mostly made the switch because a lot of the cheaper metal ones welding will weaken at the bottom and leak after only a month or two of use.
I use these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01693QKCI/ref=twister_B00K9UA2V8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Some of the amazon reviews mention them setting off metal detectors, but I've bought them repeatedly since those reviews and have NEVER had that problem.
Anyway, whatever plastic ones you get: Crotch one. That's almost always an auto in if you're a dude. Go in shirtless, with one wrapped in your shirt above your head with your wallet and phone in hand as if you removed them to make the pat down easier. This has never been checked in my experience, and is another auto in. If you feel you need more, bring in a bag with some out of the way pockets/areas. I've gotten good mileage with one wrapped in a towel inside my bag, or one at the bottom under sun screen and sunglasses and everything and trying to pick a lazier security guy.
Also, super important, if the security dude you're in line for is checking places your flask(s) are, BAIL. Fake a phone call from a friend who just got there, back out of line, and pick a different one. Repeat until you get someone lazy. This works fine even if you're next in line. I can't recommend this enough.
I ordered these concealable flasks (Amazon link) for sneaking booze in to make mixed drinks on the cheap.
This is the one I bought. Do you suggest I try and hide/bury it in my bag or make it somewhat visible to not draw suspicion?
In the years I've gone, they have never opened the water bottles, they just check to make sure they are sealed (so if you are able to keep the bottle caps sealed, or got those Camo Caps you should be good)
I got this the other day, tested it out and it seems like it'll work fine. The bladder is super high quality and has plenty of storage.
It's my first year but I'm gonna try the new bottle caps so my bottle looks factory sealed. Pop in some rum or vodka and good to go! Amazon link
Not a CamelBak brand, but I just picked up one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NP6SXNW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Comes with a 3L bladder and had great reviews.
