I'm so sorry that you are going through this right now. I want to help. I have also DMed you. Please, please remember that
Your feelings are valid and it is absolutely normal for you to be feeling lost. There is nothing "wrong" with you for feeling this way. What you're going through can be addressed, and returning to a safer headspace is possible. I don't know you IRL but I care about your wellbeing, and so do your family and friends. I have some suggestions for you below:
You are doing the right thing by looking for help. Help does exist and people do care. Again, my DMs are open.
You acquired pdfs and are now selling the acquired pdfs.
Would they happen to be any of these?:
You'll be fine. If its really worrisome for you, download https://www.virtualbox.org/ (or bootcamp! though different) and buy yourself a copy of windows 10 professional. You'll be fine!
The only thing you might have a problem with in first year eng is AutoCAD isn't available on Mac, but you can just go to the libraries/labs for that. Everything else is super doable.
The way I see it is that these practicums would be conducted the same way as a typical technical job interview would go. You would sit down with your interviewer and they would give you a problem and watch you solve it. That being said, someone who isn't going into software or tron or something like that probably wouldn't see a point in an evaluation like this. But the same thing can be said for other programs, for example, I want to go into software, but I still had to take chemistry. That's just what happens when you take a generalized first year.
In terms of marking this way compared to labs/projects, in the labs and projects, there's nothing stopping you from getting help. Getting help is obviously good, as long as you're learning from it. I think the point of the practicum being marked like this is it tests your knowledge, not the knowledge of you and google and whoever you may or may not ask for help.
Honestly, as someone who has been coding since grade 9, if you wanna do well on the practicum, the best way is to practice. Do the practice problems on avenue. Try some of the problems here. The best way to practice though, in my opinion, is just to think of something you want to make and then make it. When I was first starting out, I an extremely poorly coded python console game during a long car ride. Is the game any good? To be honest, no. Is the code any good? Also no. But I learned basic programming concepts and familiarised myself with python syntax. If you're ever stuck or need help, there will always be someone in the 1p13 discord who is online and willing to help. But good luck, don't let exams stress you out too much, you got this!
Not too long of a post at all.
I'm sorry you were going through that and I commend you for getting help. They have some amazing people there.
I am hoping someone else has another idea, but what is the possibility of deferring the exam? Would that allow you to still take the course? You'd have to ask your faculty, but I'm thinking that could be a possibility. The other recommendation is to buckle down and really start studying. I highly recommend flashcards (no idea what the course is) and I've found Anki to be the best for it. Best of luck to ya.
both are good.I got accepted to western med sci and queens health as well. My back up to mac health sci was originally western med sci, but I talked to some current queens health sci ppl and got more info. Now queen health sci is my back up instead. if you want more info, I would recommend joining this discord about queens health. There are current students who can answer any questions you may have. Also you can scroll ahead on the chat to get info.

I took this course some years ago in the summer session, taught by Professor Mark Vorobej. It was a course in symbolic logic, where you represent logical constructs with letters and symbols and evaluate their validity. It's more like a math class than a philosophy class. The text we used was a previous edition of The Logic Book.
Overall it was an interesting course and I enjoyed it, although I've forgotten most of the details now. If you ever wondered what the difference between a valid argument and a sound argument is, this course will really drive it home for you.
If you don't have enough money for a new chair, I recommend getting these two things from amazon:
Seat Cushion and Lumbar Back Cushion Combo
Life changing! For me, at least.
You didn't ask but these were also great cheaper additions for the surface that I got:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07P211Q4R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Pretty much as easy as the normal surface keyboard but like 4x cheaper.
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07JR8NMQ4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Really durable case, allows a surface keyboard/variant to be attached and also can be held with one hand using the strap. Stand works normally too
I used NordVPN at home but haven't bothered putting it on my laptop yet, so a quick solution for me was to use my Opera browsers built-in VPN, worked pretty well, and my location reads that I'm in Kansas.
I have used a lot of the websites mentioned above and would suggest you look through the upvoted comments thoroughly. However one site / app I haven't seen mentioned is Todoist (yes I know it looks like "ToDoList" but it's not). It's a great productivity tool with a simple interface that helps me manage my time and when assignments / labs are due. Plus they have an app for desktop and mobile that syncs automatically so you can view tasks on all your devices. Would definitely recommend! Here is the link: https://todoist.com/
LOL
Beginners are very much welcome! This is the material we intend to cover:
https://www.notion.so/2020-Training-Guide-bcf20243518f45afac3fdc6a6044ab33
You'll see it starts at the bare essentials, there is no pressure if you don't have that much experience yet :)
It is! This year we are hosting beginner workshops that start from the bare essentials like how to setup a programming environment and write solutions to simple problems. You can see a breakdown here:
https://www.notion.so/2020-Training-Guide-bcf20243518f45afac3fdc6a6044ab33
One piece of advice. If you aren't that familiar with programming (and often even if you are) competitive programming can be really hard at first. It can help a ton just to practice using your programming language on your own time.
I hope this helps :)
I looked it up and it seems overpriced imo. Maybe it's because of the SSD it looks expensive to me. But if I were to look for a laptop I would start looking in the summer when back to school sales start. As for recommendations Lenovo usually has really good laptops for a good price.
You can find the recommended specs for SolidWorks here https://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/SystemRequirements.html Only reason I am saying to compare the specs for SolidWorks is because it is the most CPU heavy application you will use. Also these recommended specs assume you will be using all of SolidWork modules but in class you wont be. So if you get a laptop with less than the recommended specs you should be fine as long as its not too far off.
You can run bootcamp and run almost all the other windows software required. If you really don't want to swtich to a windows laptop you really dont have to. It is possible to finish the SolidWorks assignments and study for the midterms/exam for SolidWorks in the Labs at McMaster but the timings are limited by professor availability.
Basically everything /u/eandi said. I had a 6 average, on top of starting to apply late in the hiring cycle for coops and I still managed to get a full year coop. At Mac the onus is on YOU to find a position, and my suggestion would be look through OSCAR, linkedin and indeed for positions. Also on the tidbit of Waterloo grads getting tons of experience. The caveat is that they do, but since they only are there for 4 months that experience is super shallow. They really only do basic grunt work, since it takes them 2 months to really get into their position (IMO). The real development work was given to students that stuck around for 12-16 month internships.
When you get interviews please review Data Structures/Algorithms. Also do some practice problems at https://leetcode.com/ and any personal projects you might (even unfinished/abandoned ones) are a huge bonus. These really helped me get my coop position and my current job.
EDIT : resume advice can be found at /r/cscareerquestions
I really found iStudiez Pro (http://istudentpro.com/) to be awesome for keeping track of my course schedules and assignments. I think I started using it in second year and kept using it until I graduated.
Yeah! I also use goodnotes! to be honest it’s a bit of a process to add margins and all, but I really like goodnotes for note taking so it’s worth it for me. I download the pdf of the slides onto my mac and then upload them to https://www.sejda.com/resize-pdf from my ipad (since it’s connected on the cloud). I add margins (usually about 2 inches all around but it depends on the class) and then i annotate that way. IF i want to do a bit more, i’ll resize the pdf down to A4 after i’ve added some bigger margins so that i can add in some paper in between slides on goodnotes (A4 size) so it all lines up. It sounds like a lot, I know, but I can get it all done in about one minute so it’s worth it for me! I don’t really write every single thing down but it works really well. If you wanna make your annotations “cornell style” you can use the left margin to write down the key words/questions. Does all that make sense (lmao I know it’s a lot)?
I use a Lenovo Flex 14, its basically a laptop but the hinges open all the way around and it becomes a tablet (there are a lot of options that are like this). I really enjoy it, having everything on one device is really convenient, I take notes in OneNote and I love the organization.
This is the one I bought, I got it on a black friday sale for ~800$, but now its really weirdly priced (they may have stopped making them)
This is a similar option, the main difference being that it has a less powerful processor (Ryzen 5 vs. Ryzen 7), but more RAM (8gb vs. 16gb), definitely the better option. There is also an option on Lenovo's website for this with the Ryzen 7. Hope that helps!
*The link below is how I do it.
I definitely write right on longer texts (like 50+ pages), but mostly I like to keep the weeks together. I do add a whole folder for each class’ assignments too as we have lots of secondary articles in English.
I have never used notions, I should check it out.
Don’t worry, it will all work out. I was confused last year too, but they paid it out no problems. Btw, I did have to ask for it to be transferred to my bank account, but I think it may be different this year.
You can see how they do the account ledger if you look at last year for my account.
Good luck!
I used this one, and I loved it + constantly had friends asking if they could nap in my bed because of how comfortable it was: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08J2S69M7/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I can't count how many times I've suggest The Pomodoro Method here but... here we are again
it helps me when I'm procrastinating. it helps me when I can't even start because I feel too anxious or stressed. it just works.
I was in the same situation last semester! I talked to my housemates and we now have quiet hours after 9 PM and I use foam earplugs (these are best, trust me I've tried like five different kinds).
You can buy a small humidifier in your room. I use this one at my desk.

My secret is that I basically never read anything, I get apps to read it for me. If your readings are already online/PDF half the job is done. There are some screen reading apps for pc, and web-based ones like natural reader ( https://www.naturalreaders.com/ ) but if you have an iPhone/iPad I highly highly recommend Voice Dream. I can listen to my readings on the bus or wherever and actually get through them. No, you don’t absorb it the same way as reading while taking notes, but when you need to go back over the article/chapter it’s easier because you already know what it’s about and don’t get tripped up reading one paragraph over and over because you keep losing focus.
No, it's not asking too much at all! I would just appreciate you being as honest as you're comfortable with. Maybe just something like, "hey, I've been struggling a bit lately and I know you've noticed. I hope you know that if there's ever something that makes you uncomfortable, you can talk to me about it." Basically just reassuring her that the communication lines are open. Personally I would also really appreciate knowing what you would want from me, like if there was anything I was saying that was triggering or if there was anything I could do to help make things a bit easier.
Obviously everyone is different and I don't know your roommate at all so you could tailor it to whatever you think she would be most receptive to. Ultimately just letting her know that you are safe, you're open to talking about it (to whatever extent you are), and you want to respect her boundaries.
I hope that's helpful! If you wanted some extra advice SHEC has peer support hours where you can do an anonymous text chat or schedule a video call - you could even practice the conversation with them if you wanted to (you can fill out a scheduling form anonymously here: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=VULlUrBySUaVGi3kwXAAnWFxY06aNFBMktynKFmEgKtUQVI0VEJVUVI4MUlEVlY5TlFLQzZRSzFORy4u)
Good luck if you do choose to talk to her!

in email today at 12:
Given the current unprecedented circumstances caused by COVID 19, regrettably, the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology has decided to cancel the 2020 Spring Term offering of CHEM 2OA3. Given this, the course will be removed from your Enrolment Record.
After careful consideration, this decision was reached because the in-person laboratory component cannot be duplicated in an on-line experience without substantively compromising the learning experience for students.
We plan to modify the enrolment capacity in the 2020 Fall Term offering to allow a larger number of students to access the course.
We regret the ramifications and inconvenience this decision may cause.
Questions or concerns should be directed to the department by completing the following form:

Second US edition is on libgen.is. Ask your prof if you really need the 5th Canadian edition.
I was about to say "I don't think critical thinking has changed much since 2007", til I realized how wrong that statement is.
And we bum around this subreddit! Hopefully I graduate this year ;D
KB, our newest product is called Videostream and it's absolutely destroying in the Chrome app store :D http://www.getvideostream.com. We've done validation and it looks like we're going to be gaining revenues quite soon. 80k users in 6 weeks.
You can ask online class provider to try alternative to Webex like R-HUB web conferencing http://www.rhubcom.com and check if everyone is easily able to join or no.
The only thing ive been told by current students is that basically everyone has 4.3 in their core courses. To me that seems inflated like mac health sci( its juts my opinion bcz the entire class has perfect gpas) I think the reason its like mac health sci is because of the high gpas, smaller class sizes and it seems many of their students r going to end up in med school with how the program is designed and how it works in future med school students' favour. I got this info from talking to the current students on this discord. https://discord.com/channels/697603423545065562/697617444981833819 You are welcome to join. There are current students on their to answer any questions. You can also scroll up on 'ama' and 'general' and youll find the previous convos we had that mention exactly what I said above.
I use xodo for reading and editing pdf files. TinyScanner For scanning documents into pdf.
i use openscan for scanning stuff and pdf viewer plus for viewing pdfs
Np! I believe I got this one: https://www.amazon.ca/MacBook-Release-Kuzy-Plastic-Newest/dp/B01MQK5TH3/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=macbook+air+case+m1+Kuzy&qid=1628539366&sr=8-4. It was quite a bit cheaper when I got it.
Wait, do you already have one external monitor? If so, why not just buy the same monitor?
If not, I recommend this.
I do recommend anything that is either QHD (2K) or 4K. You can really tell the difference between 1080p and QHD/4K when reading text.
There’s a good one called watcom intuos. I probably spelt it wrong but I think that’s the best one (also reliable) for around 100. I tried this other one from Huion, it was around 40, and I couldn’t get it to connect just right when I was about to teach. So yeah I ended up returning that one. It was called huion inspiroy. Your best option is to go with watcom intuos.
Edit: it’s Wacom and here’s the link: https://www.amazon.ca/Wacom-Drawing-Software-Included-CTL4100/dp/B079HL9YSF/ref=asc_df_B079HL9YSF/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=292981412351&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9783981703001253441&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvq...
Get the Pulse app on your phone. It's the avenue to learn app from Brightspace. It will give you notifications for all announcements and grades.
It does, but they probably don't sell it online https://campusstore.mcmaster.ca/index.html
Mine doesn't look like any of those, it's more like this, just says McMaster on it lol

Computer Science is a science, you’re learning more about the why rather than the how. Programming is just a part of the picture but there’s more to Computer Science than that, I know this might sound contradictory to what I said before, but CS is sort of like applied math. I’d maybe pick up a textbook over the break and give the python course on code academy a go, this is the textbook we use at Mac http://www.amazon.ca/Python-Programming-Introduction-Computer-Science/dp/1887902996. In all honestly, I wouldn’t go into Computer Science if you’re not 100% about and have never programmed, I have and sort of regret it. I’d apply for engineering and if you’re still interested you could declare software in second year or switch to CS if you’re so inclined.
Your averages are no small feat! Keep that in mind. There are two types of people who leave engineering, those who find greener pastures, and those who don't have a good work ethic.
I know plenty of people who left engineering because they just wanted to focus different things like on math, which is an open option because engineers take everything.
I think if you have a strong work ethic you'll be able to get through it no problem. It's not difficult there's just a lot of it.
Here are some good books to help you get productive

I just finished my undergrad, and my advice would be:
Constantly review your process, find out where you lack and try to improve on that
Join clubs or do something outside of school, a degree will only help you get in the door, good marks aren't the whole picture, show that you are capable of doing something
I used to use Telus for the first 4 years I was here and I now use WIND. I'm pretty happy with it. ITB had meh coverage for Telus and Wind, but most of my communication is from data/wifi anyways. If you need to use text/calling services a lot in low connectivity areas, get the free Fongo app. They give you a free number that you can send/receive calls.
I even live in a basement and the service isn't that bad. It might also depend on how new your phone is. I have found that service is pretty bad in downtown Toronto or in concrete buildings.
