I pop in here, and in /r/nvidia as well, to see if there's people that I can help. We also have a dedicated subreddit for EVGA at /r/TEAMEVGA, and you can post there if you're having trouble. If you need more, you can email us, or call us 24/7 at 888.881.3842 in the US or Canada. If you're' in the EU or elsewhere, check our support page for regional contact info.
I may or may not be in /r/aww upvoting kittens, too. :)
I don't know how to fix it crashing specifically, but if the system is running the background and it's only losing video, I think there may be a way to bind a key on your keyboard to run a script which restarts your video device, which might get you some where.
Follow these instructions to install the devmanview tool and create a .bat script which restarts your video card when run: http://superuser.com/questions/616111/how-to-restart-a-video-card-driver-in-windows-7/668972#668972
Then, create a new shortcut to that script, right click the short cut, properties, and set a 'shortcut key' which will set it to run. Finally, just test to see if your hotkey functions both in and out of games.
This won't fix the crashing, and I can't confirm it will get your screen to display again without having to reboot, but it's worth a tool.
Heres a nice lil list of all of EVGA's 970's, if it is the FTW version it is already somewhat up there.
I would start with your CPU, I find it quicker to do then the GPU. Do you have a 3rd party cooler or the stock intel one?
What's the game that you're having trouble with? Have you tried any other games that you have the same issues? Have you tried running 3DMark or Unigine Valley?
You can try re-installing the drivers clean. Use the DDU application to clear out your drivers and settings, then install a recent version of the drivers.
Download DDU: http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/
Run the clean and restart mode (it'll prompt you to go to safe mode first).
Once it's cleaned and booted back to normal windows mode reinstall the drivers from geforce.com/nvidia.com.
Another program may have already used that combo. Also there is GFE 2.11.4.0 but that's stable branch and that uses shadowplay not share like the beta does.
You might be better off using Autokey to customise keys and mappings.
One last bit of info for you is there is also OBS for recordings etc. It can be setup to use NVENC like shadowplay.
I have seen this before basically nothing you do makes it open. The only thing I've seen 'fix' it was a wipe and start over. You may want to try OBS with the capture set to NVENC and setup like shadowplay if you dont want to start from scratch.
Alright, after some more Googling I seem to have found my answer. Turns out Nvidia's latest drivers do not include support for the 200-series, as well as others. I didn't realize this. And also didn't realize you can't have 2 different video drivers installed at same time.
So, for my 3 monitor setup I will have to run all 3 monitors off the Geforce 950 (or buy I newer second video card so that both cards can use the same driver, but that is not necessary in my case - I was just wanting to run the 2 monitors off the second video card so that the 950 wouldn't lose frames while gaming...but I will just disable the 2nd and 3rd display when gaming to avoid that).
For any future readers, I found the answers at these 2 links:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-eol-graphics-card,26304.html
okay its no longer in that menu. You can either use this tool: http://www.ghacks.net/2015/10/10/windows-update-minitool-is-a-third-party-client-for-updating-windows/ It does not have many downloads so its safety is uncertain.
Or you can do it this way:
start > devices and printers > right click your computer name > device installation settings(not properties) > yes, do this automatically.
So this isn't necessarily a normalizer, more of an offset to normalize.

Software:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/
Essentially you need to do the following:
Unzip
Run setup
Select device(s)
Finish
Locate config file in program files folder for program.
Open with notepad
Delete everything
Paste Preamp: -12 dB (change this to what you want via trial & error)
Save. Should take effect immediately. Try making Windows sounds. Restart if necessary.
If it doesn't seem to work, open the editor in the program files location. Hopefully it should now be detected.
Restart if need be.
Again play with volumes. Best to work with extremes to verify software is working before dailing in
Hopefully this helps you. If you don't like this just uninstall.
Have you given Borderless gaming a shot. Its got some tricks up its sleeve that might help you out. The git hub and steam version are the same, the steam version helps out the developer though.
Download BlueScreenView and check the latest error code and what caused it. Post them and I'll help you look for a solution.
You can also try to downgrade to 353.49 and see if that helps.
Thanks mate.
That brings my to my next question if you don't mind helping me just a little bit more.
I'm looking into getting >>>this<<< monitor to use with the 1080, however, Nvidia's official site does not list any compatible ports with the monitor. Even if it did work, the product description states that the 144hz refresh rate will only work with display ports 1.4 and 1.2a. Which, again, Nvidia's official site does not state the 1080 has. And what makes things even more confusing to me is that there are reviews stating that the monitor works with the card, but I have no idea what to believe. Are they lying? Are they working but just without the 144hz refresh rate? How did they do it when none of the ports that Nvidia lists are compatible with the ports in the product's description? So confusing...
Quote from product page:
>BEFORE YOUR PURCHASE, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THERE WON'T BE ANY COMPATIBILITY ISSUE WITH YOUR GRAPHICS CARD. Please check
>* If your graphics card has DVI-D, HDMI 1.4 or Displayport 1.2a output >* Input/Output: DISPLAYPORT IN(1.2a), MINI DISPLAYPORT IN(1.2a), DUAL-LINK DVI-D, IN, HDMI IN(1.4Ver) x2, AUDIO IN, USB IN(for Firmware Update), DC IN >* All ports other than "Display Ports 1.2a or Mini Display Port 1.2a will not support 144Hz display on the monitors. > And please do not use cable converter like HDMI to DVI or DVI to Displyport. Please use Displayport cable directly.
Quote from Nvidia's 1080 specs:
> * DP 1.43, HDMI 2.0b, DL-DVI
As you can see, none of these three are compatible. Did the reviewers find some way around it or should I look for different monitors?
What do you think about two of these with an EVGA 550 GS power supply? Are these things plug and play, as I know that if you try something like Corsair sleeved cables on an EVGA PSU it can break some parts, and vice versa etc. Are extensions safe to use?
EDIT: Just read up on it now, apparently it's compatible with all PSUs. Just a little cautious just in case lol.
Its pretty complex, even I couldn't be bothered to do it. I would look at another receiver or some other setup. Audio/video pass through can be a real pain in the ass.
There is little hdmi boxes that let you set your own EDID info but I have never used one.
This or similar might make your life alot easier. It will also mean both screens can be used at the same time.
You could also go for a cheaper raspberry pi 3 but the OS you load on that might limit you if you use it for more then videos.
You won't get around the clone res limition but you might be able to make the monitor scale the image to the full panel size. It wont look good though.
I think it might be this one, looks about right, i've never overclocked anything before, i have the Evga precision tool for the gpu but i wouldnt know what to do to do the cpu!
i have a 3rd party one, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Noctua-NH-D14-Processor-LGA1366-LGA1156/dp/B002VKVZ1A
looking at that list is like looking at a wall of hieroglyphs haha, no idea which one i have, is there some program that can check that for me?
Will this do the trick? http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Supporting-Technology/dp/B00EDT0072/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452599494&sr=8-1&keywords=active+hdmi+to+displayport+adapter
Hopefully because I just amazon same day shipped it :)
From what I've gathered I think I may need this adapter here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EDT0072?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A1AMUYYA3CT6HJ but I am not sure so I'm hoping someone who knows for sure can help. :P
