you probably need the right codec. download the k-lite codec pack (it has pretty much every one you'll ever need). http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
Firefox win64 is still baking and had a few releases that kinda worked, but it sucked because no plugins worked. K-Lite rolled everything together into one.
I know this comes up every time someone mentions VLC, but I find MPC to be superior, and the K-Lite Codec Pack has never failed me.
Chances are you won't run into problems with VLC, but I find the playback in MPC to be smoother and overall just a bit nicer.
Here's an image I found on google that shows the subtle (but imo compelling) differences in playback.
I ordered a copy of Steins;gate since the anime was fantastic and a lot of people recommended the VN. My copy has finally come in and it looks like it's borked. It starts fine but after the disclaimer it crashes every time. I'm running Windows 8.1 and I've tried various compatibility modes, moving the install (after reinstalling) and Googling hasn't been helpful. If anyone could lend a hand I would be super appreciative.
EDIT: JAST support got back to me and of all things were able to offer a fix on the first try without so much as asking for a log or anything beyond when it crashed. It was a codec issue which was resolved using this.
>He said Windows Media Centre was mainly only used to watch DVDs. Until the update arrives, watching DVDs will require separate playback software.
Or you could download and install the K-Lite Codec Standard Pack which comes with Media Player Classic Home Cinema and all the codecs you could want in order to view almost any material.
I'd just like to point out that the Lagarith codec is included in the K-Lite Codec Pack Mega, which I talked about here.
History repeats itself.
Try downloading this codec pack. If unsure just use full.
Could be a codec. But I have never heard of zoomplayer. I use CCCP it comes with MPCHC built in and uses codecs that you can customise to your likening. Here's a link: http://www.cccp-project.net/ Edit: Oops just re-read your comment you could replace zoomplayer with MPCHC and see if its the player. If MPCHC does the same thing it might be your codecs. Which you could uninstall them and replace them with KLite plugins. Link: http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm
couple of other things that could be causing it too:
See the provided readme, you need the K-Lite codec pack: http://www.codecguide.com/
The piece was done by the english company Visualise and the BBC. Visualise did a virtual reality tour of london before: http://visualise.com/news/2013/09/oculus-rift-london-virtual-tourism-experience
Did you load the K-Lite video codecs? They're needed to view most videos.
What should happen is you see a white screen until the video is loaded. We're able to put a screenshot up (click to play for example). If there's further problems, post on the /r/JanusVR sub-reddit.
I think I speak for a good number of reddittors when I suggest Videolan VLC player, and tack on the K-lite mega codec pack. With those two you ought to be able to play pretty much anything the Internet throws at you, video-wise at least.
What I do for Whirlgig.
Get latest LAV filters installer, which is LAVFilters-0.72-Installer.exe and install.
Run LAV Video Configuration and LAV Audio Configuration and enablle in both "Enable System Tray Icon". Change whatever else settings you think you need, I always check that there is a hardware video decoder selected.
Run Whirlgig and select to use DirectShow filters in settings.
Play a video, do both the LAV Video and LAV Audio tray icons appear? Then Whirlgig is working correctly with LAV filters. Are either or both icons missing? Then Whirlgig can't automatically use them and you will have to force them to be the preffered codec.
To force LAV filters to be the default you will have to get the Codec Tweak Tool. Run it, click on preffered decoders and set the LAV filters as the preffered codec. In the past I had problems with the Microsoft WMV formats and LAV so if you have any problems revert those entries to their default.
UPDATE: All fixed! Followed some advice on the Blue Room forums and downloaded the K-Lite Codec Pack.
It didn't fix the .avi audio issue, so that remains a mystery, but it did allow me to use my original .mp4's without torpedoing the program. Thanks all for your suggestions :)
install K-lite codec, the basic version should do. and then turn off auto play on your cd drive, open the cd instead of playing it, and run as classic media player instead of windows media player.
For anyone who has the same issue.
1) Press Y to get SBS video mode.
2) Install the KLite codec pack from here.
http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_basic.htm
Agree to uninstall current pack when prompted.
Seems this is what someone did to make it work.
You could try converting it with winFF or installing a codec pack.
Lol, don't blame windows because you don't know what you're doing. Learn to use google for pete's sake.
Here, Grab the latest version of K-Lite Codec pack (full). And pay attention to which download button you hit.
Happy ChrismaQwanzaHannuka and a Jolly New Solar Rotation!
To me it looks like an overheating issue.
There are programs to stress test video cards and whenever I stress tested my card to the limit (heat reaching over 80C degrees), it introduces artifacts in the video.
To rule this out, you can download a linux distro like linuxmint and boot up LIVE (no installation just boot from the disk media) from the cd/dvd and try to use it that way for a day or two playing videos.
If the artifacts are there too, then it is an overheating issue so your laptop would need a good dust bunny cleaning.
If the artifacts are not there, then it's definitely a corrupted file somewhere...I don't have a solution for that but maybe install k-lite codec pack http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
K-Lite Codec Pack is working best for me, with the smoothest playback.
But I guess VLC is the most commonly used player and handles just about any file that you throw at it.
Be sure to have a proper codec installed, such as K-Lite. If you already have one, you just have to rename the video file and subtitle file with the same name. For instance:
[HorribleSubs] Hibike! Euphonium - 09 [720p].mkv
[HorribleSubs] Hibike! Euphonium - 09 [720p].ass
It could be that you don't have the proper video codecs. Do you have an up-to-date video player? If you're not sure, maybe downloading the K-Lite Codec Pack and trying it again?
okay, from what I understand FO3 has a LOT of bugs; especially with x64. try installing K-Lite codec pack (link below). There have been many users that swear by it. Also, basic should be fine.
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
(ps: here is my reference so you know I am not tryin to dick ya http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=847872)
I believe it will only work with local media players rendering local files, I'm afraid.
You have little control over streaming media applications.
http://www.svp-team.com/wiki/FAQ
I recommend the K lite or CCCP packs, and their included 'Media Player Classic Home Cinema Edition'
player for best results.
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
First, that program would be excellent if it wasn't for the fact that it simply does not work with Windows 8. Second, have you tried previewing the videos with another program such as Media Player or VLC? You might be missing codes for .mp4 visualization. Try this codec if so. I use the basic version and it works like a charm. Tell me if you get it to work or not.
Maybe your PC is lacking the codecs to proper render the video, I used .mp4 instead of .wmv, so that might be it. Here is a codec pack that works like a charm, you can use the basic version (which is the one I use). You might wanna take a look at your DirectX drivers, though if you play any ME on PC, you probably have it already, though I think the software uses CPU. See if it works and tell me.
I do not know about the reason behind your issues but you can install the codecs from K-Lite Codec Pack. However, I do not think that to be an issue as VLC is able to play them properly.
Just wanted to ask whether adobe premier pro cc is a torrented version. If yes, that may very well be the reason.
First of all, download and install the Basic version of the K-Lite Codec Pack. It's not guaranteed to work, but it's worth a try.
If that fails, you need to convert the video to a different format. But try the codec pack first.
http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_basic.htm
I think that's the one I used (I know, not the most confidence inspiring design, with the weird Geocities-esque 90s theme).
Either of the mirrors should work.
MKV is a common video file type, generally geared towards hi-def.
You are missing a codec for playing mkv files. One easy solution is to download the k-lite codec pack here: http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
Basic is probably all that you need. Be sure to read all the options during installation, as they will want to make some changes to what programs open different types of files.
Glad I can help. Reply or shoot me a PM if you have anymore questions. Whirligig is really the way to go for 3D movies. If you use it I forgot to add that you will have five folders from the zip they give you. You'll want to use 64-bit DK2 folder. To play videos stick them in the Whirligig 64bit DK2/Production/Media folder. Also, you'll have to install K lite to play 3D formats which you can find Here. Install the basic pack and watch out for the toolbars it tries to get you to install.
If you are using Windows 8 try installing this: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40744
If that doesn't work or your not using 8 try installing k-lite codec pack: http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
For those having the black screen issue on Windows 7, download and install K-LITE.
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
This fixed the problem for me.
I should mention this is if you don't have Windows 7 N and it still isn't working.
zaphodi has you on the right track. I don't do much media editing, but I've done exactly what you want to do, a few times.
To get several codecs, ffdshow, and some other goodies, install the K-Lite Codec Pack. For XVID, you'll need the MEGA pack, and 64-bit pack if you have a 64-bit system.
I haven't used vDub in a while, but if I remember correctly: use it to separate the audio and video, re-encode whatever you want, then use vDub to re-interleave the two files (video and audio) into one.
CUDA would be nice yeah but it's fairly uncommon with these freeware programs, or any programs really, so I don't expect it.
As for the codecs you could probably get them all at once with something like the K-Lite Codec Pack or the CCCP.
I use it as a quick converter, but it also allows you to set in/out points so you can cut up/clip/trim videos as you convert them...and it's completely free.
Also make sure you have a full range codec pack installed so you can convert to/from just about any format. The K-Lite Codec Pack is a good one for Windows. If you have a Mac, install Perian.
Do you have a codec pack? If not, you should get one. I recommend this one, It's the one I use and I haven't found a video file type yet that it can't play.
Personally, I've had some issues with VLC before, usability issues that were pretty much insufferable. I'd try the codec pack first.
Just about every player as well as the popular codecs support acceleration these days. I did have a couple of issues with the codec pack I normally so I ended up going back to bare codecs. Never mind the basis for the codec pack was the codecs I ended up installing manually anyway.
ffdshow (make sure to select the dxva codec as well in the installer) + haali splitter did the job. Though I also needed to use Win7DSFilterTweaker so it used ffdshow instead of the default microsoft ones.
ah lol. yeah, I'm on a mac at work but DEFINITELY prefer my pc at home. I just got the k-lite codec pack -> http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
(be sure to download the standard version that supports flac)
Install CCCP or K-Like Codec Pack (not the big dumbass "DOWNLOAD" button ad on that page...) on the server computer. Restart.
If that doesn't fix it, in PS3 Media Server, The Transcoder Setting tab, on the left side, ensure MEncoder is Above TXMuxer by clicking on it then the blue up arrow below that list. On the right section, make sure "Switch to TXMuxer if PS3 is compatable" is checked.
If these fail, try to wire the server and PS3 to the router. This error can be caused by excessive response-time caused by wireless routing.
I've honestly always used Windows Media Player to rip legit CD's to MP3. I've never ran into issues doing this, but it wouldn't surprise me if you do. You can pick the bitrate and such to get the best sounding MP3 possible. There are tons of programs that do this though, even a quick Google search brings up a bunch.
As for playback, I've always installed the K-Lite Codec Pack. This will allow you to play almost all media formats through whatever media player you want. VLC is about the same as far as that goes, but K-lite gives you the option to use any player which is nice. I don't have a Bluray player on my system yet, but I think you have to have the right software to play a bluray on your system and last I heard most of it is expensive.
One such example is here. I don't quite remember which of their files had issues. But there were enough that they saw fit to include such things in their FAQ.
They are not the only group to give similar warnings. Especially with the older anime like series done by Kick Ass Anime.
Again I can't give you specifics because I stopped using VLC years ago and I'm not about to download tons of files just to find one that does not work in order to win an internet argument.
Frame tearing happens when the frame buffer is swapped while the graphics card is still in the middle of displaying the image. So I couldn't prove it to you beyond giving you a screenshot. We would both need to have a similar setup.
VLC does not buffer enough. If it did the tearing would not happen, but then it wouldn't be as well suited to broadcasting over a LAN. It's an inherent problem that exists by design.
>shaders? for video? what is this? 2001?
Yes, shaders. Now I think you are the one who doesn't know what he's talking about.
>Q: What are shaders?
>A:
>
>A Pixel Shader is a graphics function that calculates effects on a per-pixel basis. A shader is basically a tiny program that is executed on your graphics card to process some graphic data. In the case of MPC, every frame of the video you play gets processed.
>Q: Why can't I enable any shaders?
>A:
>
>The requirements for the pixelshaders in MPC:
>Your graphics card must support Pixel Shaders 2.0 >You need to use a compatible video renderer: VMR-7 (renderless), VMR-9 (renderless), or EVR Custom Presenter. >Surface setting must be set to "3D surfaces". >It requires some DirectX components that are not included with standard Windows installation. Run the DirectX Web Installer to get the required DirectX updates.
I always use K-Lite mega codec pack with Media Player Classic Home Cinema, works for all videos I've tried, they also seem to work better on low end computers compared to VLC.
http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm
try installing the "klite codec pack" http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
I have an old laptop that only has a x1300/t2500 had lots of issues with hd content until the latest FDshow update, now everything plays back smooth.
hmm, i'm not fully versed in PAL format, but it should be fairly similar
your computer is good enough to run h.264 hd video, so sd video isn't a problem obviously
you may have a weird codec on there that's causing the problem. if you haven't installed the k-lite codec pack you can try that, it may fix your problem. it's weird though, sometimes uninstalling k-lite fixes problems...
What I normally do is install the K-Lite Codec Pack. It has basically every codec you'll ever see, a couple of nice media players (I use Media Player Classic), and works beautifully on LTSC.
Or, download K-Lite Codec Pack. Available in different packages, most including customized version of MPC-HC.
Note: I am not affiliated with K-Lite, just a recommendation.
i assume you use the regularly updated MPC from http://www.codecguide.com/ not the discontinued similar named one.
in my recent experience, the exported file was "mpc-hc-settings.ini" file. i guess i modified the settings way too much.
anyhow, rename it to "mpc-hc64_nvo.ini" and copy it to
C:\Program Files (x86)\K-Lite Codec Pack\MPC-HC64
i only use 64x version so this what worked with me
Had exactly same problem. No problems on my Chromecast streaming in 4K. PC was unplayable. Tried every setting in the stadia app. Wired and wireless. Then I installed the "K-Lite Mega Codec Pack". Now it runs great...at least in 720p. But it's fine because I can play ;)
By disabling hardware decoding in chrome it gets worse again.
Device is a MSI Cubi N 8 GL with an Intel Celeron N4000, so not what you call a gaming machine :D But perfect for Stadia anyway.
I'm quoting the KLCP website:
> # Advantages of the codec pack compared to using VLC Player: > > - You get better video quality when you use MPC-HC in combination with madVR (an advanced video renderer). > - The pack provides additional functionality that is not directly related to playback. For example video thumbnail generation in Windows Explorer, and display of MKV file properties in Windows Explorer. > - The pack provides more hardware acceleration options. > - Better support for MKV files. > - Better performance for rendering SSA/ASS subtitles. > - MPC-HC loads much faster than VLC. > - MPC-HC provides a better user interface (in our opinion). > - Codecs are also available to other applications.
The codec pack main benefit for me is really convenience, it's an up-to-date and integrated collection of related packages like MPC-HC, LAV Filters, madVR, DirectVobSub, etc.
You can read more here and decide yourself:
It comes in several variants depending on your needs:
Page Text is reproduced below:
If your game is crashing at the end of the Trenchcoat fight in the bomb room, it's likely due to a missing codec on your system that is required to play videos.
Several players had this issue and found that by downloading the K-Lite Codec from the following website fixed this problem for them:
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
You can also try downloading the Windows Media Player codecs from this website if the K-Lite codec doesn't fix it for you.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own that website and I've never personally had to download any of their codecs or packs. This has solved the problem for others, so I'm pointing it out as a possible solution if anyone else has cutscene crashes.

I believe this is some kind of Windows 10 codec issue with the intro video. There's a Windows Update linked in the comments below, or for a lighter fix, try installing the K-Lite Codec Pack and restarting the computer. Let me know if Codec Pack works for anyone else. Thanks!
http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_basic.htm
Is the webcam USB? It might be that the USB port is making a bottleneck, use 3.1 ports if the webcam is compatible and your case/mobo has them. Otherwise, reinstall the drivers for the web camera. Depending on the camera and how you are using it to stream you will probably need a different codec. K-lite standard would work fine. http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
I've had great results with this: Codec Tweak Tool it's not prominent in the developer's description, but it gives full control over Windows Media Foundation.
>Media Player Classic - Home Cinema: For those who don't like VLC. I run it with the K-lite codec pack and it is amazing.
Alternative to the classical K-Lite package is CCCP package. It installs Media Player Classic with it. I prefer it for convenience.
You could try using media player classic to play the videos. I can usually get some videos that even VLC cannot play to work in MPC. That's why I have to have both installed on my PC, because sometimes one will work when the other doesn't. Also, you might mant to download the K-lite codec pack.
Hi there EA Staff. Can you guys do anything about the start-up crash on PCs with K-lite (http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm) installed? There's definitely a conflict, causing the game to crash either on start-up or on starting a new game. I think it's the VobSub component of K-lite that's conflicting (not 100% sure about that).
I had to remove K-lite from my system and reboot the PC for the game to start working.
Not at all a dumb question. Yes, you will need to use 64-bit codecs with 64-bit builds of Janus.
That said, 64-bit codecs should be included with the recommended K-Lite package, see:
http://www.codecguide.com/faq_64bit.htm
"The codec pack contains both 32-bit and 64-bit codecs."
Try downloading k-light codecs (http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm)
.mkv are blue ray file extensions, Some software will have issue playing them well. The best program ive seen for running .mkv well was kmplayer. In your program settings you can try adjust the settings for lower quality as your PC may not be powerful enough to run those codects on the fly. Perhaps try increase the buffer size in the options. Hope this helps :')
Foobar2000 if you enjoy/listen to music collections. One of the best free music players for windows currently available. Supports all lossless media files as well such as Flac
Klite Mega Codec pack with Media Player Classic Home Cinema x64. Best media player pack available for windows hands down. VLC is decent but does not provide x64 codecs and applications.
http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm
I have an Enterprise Edition of Windows 10 and I couldn't work with the mp4 files that OBS generates until I installed the K-Lite codec pack. That's probably your issue.
Once that happens you'll be able to import video and you'll notice a small loading bar at the bottom of the WMM window that basically loads all your footage before you'll be able to work with it.
It doesn't work? I haven't installed quicktime in years and I never had difficulty playing .mov movies.
You could always install a third party codec pack I guess. Try LavFilter. https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases or http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
It's been working for so long for me, that I honestly don't know what I installed to make it works. It just always worked.
We will switch it over when we can =) In the meantime here are some helpful tools. Please try to share them with others when you can. To convert mkv to wmv or mp4 etc.. use avidemux:
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-convert-mkv-file-into-mp4-file-using-avidemux.html
to play/edit mkv videos on your PC first install k-lite codecs from this pack:
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
Then I would play them using something called Media Player Classic since it has the best mkv support:
I hope this helps until we have some time to swap out our SkyShare encoder with something more popular. As for YouTube, it should support .mkv without any issues. Changing the SkyShare filetype is not going to happen for at least a few weeks =( Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help in the meantime =)

> Corsair 1500 Headset - USB connection (Corsair control panel is installed)
Contact Corsair for a Windows 10 compatible driver - the last driver release was September 2014.
A couple of other things to try, but may not likely fix your issue:
I highly recommend this, just be sure to select codecs without player during installation. Windows Media player- and media center, if you bought it -will be able to play and open every type of video file you can think of without needing another application installed.
I recently did a similar search. Try these:
I've been happy with GOM.
You might also be helped by something like K-Lite Codec Pack.
Some people have had luck after installing k-lite basic: http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_basic.htm
As for what a codec is: it is what lets your computer 'read' audio or video files. If you don't have any that support the audio or video you're attempting to play it wont work.
When you've got that problem it can really be a nightmare to fix it. It may not be possible.
Try renaming the video and sound folders in your game data folder to something else so the game won't find them; see if it's a codex issue. If it starts, you may want to consider downloading a codec pack.
Fallout 3 uses Bink Video, which should be supported by the Libavcodec pack. Other people have recommended the K-lite codec pack. Do note, though, that if renaming the folders does not help, downloading codecs is not recommended.
I bought PowerDVD 14 Ultra to watch 3D (and regular) Bluray movies, it works ok.
Edit: For regular movie files, NVIDIA's own 3D Vision Player works, though you might need to install codecs (f.ex. K-Lite) to play some files.
Unofficial Patch,K-Lite Codec Pack, and launching the game with FOSE is a good place to start. Be sure to run as admin. I've played 3 and New Vegas without issue on a few different win7 machines.
Download and install the K-Lite (standard) codec pack. It includes Media Player Classic and will allow you to play almost any file type on your Windows PC.
I've never had a stable copy of VLC.
Try downloading again, try using a codec like this one, there are several things that might be causing your issue. I use VLC to test the video files but I can confirm they work with Video Wallpaper. The video file is really just 3 seconds long, though. It's meant to play between loops of the Start Screen video. Most likely you're having a codec-related issue.
Try editing the GameUserSettings.cfg file at C:\Users<profile name>\Documents\UnrealTournament\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor . It looks like this at the top of the file in case for some reason that file is empty for you:
[/Script/UnrealTournament.UTGameUserSettings] ResolutionSizeX=2560 ResolutionSizeY=1440
Replace the ResolutionSizeX and ResolutionSizeY with your res.
and add the following to the same section (counter-intuitively it doesn't appear if you're running in fullscreen mode...)
FullscreenMode=2
If you get a black screen running games it can mean they are detecting that your monitor supports higher refresh rates / resolutions than it really does. This can often happen using old monitors or TVs with incorrect EDID information. You can try creating a custom resolution using your graphics cards control panel or this tool (http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU) that actually matches the highest res/refresh your monitor supports or installing the correct monitor inf from the manufacturer (install it via device manager).
Occasionally people have problems with black screens because they do not have the codec to decode the intro videos functioning correctly (usually due to a bad previous codec install) so you could also try installing this reliable codec pack if you think this could be your issue - http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_standard.htm
EDIT: Just realised there are no intro videos so you can ignore this last paragraph, but I'll leave it in here for good measure ;)
As I asked before, did you search for a codec pack?
When I searched I found this article which linked to this pack (as well as this pack).
This isn't really my area of expertise, so I make no guarantees, but it could be something to rule out missing codecs as an issue.
If you wish to use a live wallpaper (or Dreamscene as it's called on Windows), it really depends on your operating system. It was introduced in Windows Vista as an integrated feature and hidden in windows 7, not so sure about later on. Here is a program that will activate it for you: Dreamscene Activator
.WMV and .MPG files are the only officially supported files, but I just learned that if you want to use any other video codec, you can trick windows into setting it by renaming the file extension to .wmv or .mpg if you have the codecs installed through something like K-Lite Codec Pack.
If you want sound from your video and it isn't playing, click on volume mixer and scroll to Dreamscene and manually unmute it. Hope this helps (:
EDIT Would you look at that?! Someone already made the very dreamscene you're looking for! Metal Gear Solid 4 Dreamscene Loading Scene
Probably a codec issue. Microsoft removed the mpeg codec in windows 8 (dvd playback). You can try and grab a codec pack such as K-Lite or you can upgrade your version of windows 8 to include the Media Centre Pack, whether either of these options will specifically let you play .mpg's in WMM I am unsure. Try the codec pack first, it's free.
This is what I do:
Download clips as .webm using K-Lite Codec Pack
Convert to .mp4 with Miro
Movie Maker Magic

If you're not getting video, you probably don't have the right video codecs (software used for encoding/decoding video formatting types, of which there are MANY). I use Adobe Premiere CC 2014, and that comes with a full set of codecs, so I usually don't need to worry about this issue, but I understand that K-Lite is a good fix for this.
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
Definitely do some reading before downloading/installing that, but it seems to have good reviews. Again, I don't have to rely on this sort of software, so my advice might not be enough to warrant jumping right into that solution; you might want to see how other people weigh in.
EDIT - Alternative, you can "cheat" by using a screen capture tool. I like Screen-0-Matic; its free version has more than enough features to suit what you're trying to accomplish, and it supports audio capture, too, and it only has a minor nag screen and an unobtrusive watermark, but the full version is totally worth buying if you ever want to do Let's Play videos or capture large amounts of video from browser.
Unofficial patch , K-Lite codec pack, latest game patch, and launching the game with FOSE have made it run smoothly for me on every computer I've played it on.
I use K-lite Mega Codec Pack, with madVR as the video renderer
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
You activate it by going Options -> Playback -> Output -> Direct Show Video, in the Media Player Classic. Then you can google on how to configure madVR. It's useful, for example, if you watch 720p videos on a 1080p screen. Also plays 10-bit videos properly.
Personally, i never used any other codec pack, but CCCP seems to be a good alternative
Hm. Could be related to needing codecs to properly play the video or bad sectors on the drive. I recommend picking up the K-lite Mega Codec Pack just to be sure it's not a codec issue. Could resolve everything before you need to do checking with SeaTools, though, I'd still recommend testing just to be 100% sure.
I tend to test new drives as soon as I put them in to be sure since bad sectors aren't always hit right away. One of my original drives kept working fine for about a year before I found out it had bad sectors since I never tested it back then. Lesson learned for me there.
Do you use a codec pack like K-Lite or CCCP, sometimes these can interfere with the natural order of things
What browser do you use and have you tried more than one? Have you tried Google Chrome? Chrome is not only made by Google which also owns Youtube, but comes with it's own flash player.
Have you tried hooking a friends laptop, Smart TV, PS3, XBOX, or any other device that is able to access Youtube besides your computer?
Have you run a Speedtest and if so, what was your ping? Ping/latency is the speed of your connection, the bandwidth is the size. Fiber typically has low latency, cable comes in second, and DSL is typically garbage in the latency department. Which do you have?
There's also the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP), and K-Lite.
Does Shark007 do anything in particular to distinguish itself in this area?
Sounds silly, but try Windows Media Player. I've found it to often have better performance with .avi files I've recorded from games.
Failing that, try installing the K-Lite codec pack.
Complete noob at this, probably should stay lurking, but I'll give it a try.
Download new video codecs http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm for K-lite or http://www.cccp-project.net/ for the combined community codec pack. Sorry if I'm an idiot and completely off, I don't even know if codecs has anything to with internet video.
Try different browsers such as Chrome or Opera.
If you use noscript for firefox you need to enable a few scripts(don't know which).
Again, I'm a noob and probably wrong, but you should write down what you've attempted, browser + addons, if you use mac or pc and so on. It would help the troubleshooting process.
It may just be a missing codec. Try downloading a codec pack. I suggest the K-Lite codec pack, available here. I suggest the 'Full' pack, which comes with every codec you could ever want, and Media Player Classic.
If you don't want to install a bunch of codecs, you can also try the VLC Media Player. It's a player with a ton of codecs built in. Can't play everything, but it gets 95%.
CamStudio also has a built-in player which you should check out too.
If I might ask: what are you trying to record, and what are you planning to do with the video?
VirtualDub is what I'm currently using. It took me a day to learn how the get the best results after trying several codec's compression and filters. If you don't already have the K-Lite Codec Pack, I recommend that as well.
Are you sure you aren't thinking about the old K-Lite? There have been more than one, there was one which was awful at one point but it now contains little more than CCCP.
NOtepad++ is what you want to replace notepad
exploring fonts is IMHO a mac thing
for playing DVDs i would recomend the K-lite mega codec pack (http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm)
bulk renaming... i cant remmeber what utility i used when i had to do that.. I sometimes use ACDSEE but its not meant to bulk rename.. Tag and rename is good for mp3s.
take a look at ninite http://ninite.com/ . they have alot of free apps categorized.
For music I would recomend winamp, although I dont think it deals with ipods because ipods are gay! I have used poddox to get content onto an ipod, or perhaps media monkey would work ok as well.
Have you run a checkdisk (Error-checking in the Tools tab when you bring up the HDD properties)?
If it's a driver conflict/outdated drivers, your best bet is to just head to the appropriate vendor sites and download the latest drivers for all of your hardware (even keyboard/mouse/monitor/headphones/speakers if they have drivers on the vendor website). Also, one other thing you could do is try and install the latest version of K-Lite (just pick a version, I personally use the Mega pack, also make sure to install the 64-bit pack if your Windows is the 64-bit version), it might sound odd, but it's worth eliminating all possibilities when you have this sort of obscure crash happening.
One last thing is to do a full virus scan/spyware/malware check, those little bastards can be annoying.
I use K-lite. I used to use CCCP, but its not updated as often. K-lite isn't a hassle whatsoever to install, and it also uses MPC. If I remember correctly sometime ago in the past it was though.
CCCP never heard of it. i would use K-Lite Codec Pack but even then i would still just use VLC to play any and all types of music/video without the need for a codec pack.
