your missing the hdd tray for the harddrive, you can buy one here:
> Also I applaud Sony for not forgetting about their older consoles. Fifa 14 was released for the PS2.....
To be fair, I think it's more EA/other 3rd parties that are keeping the PS2 alive. Kind of like the Dreamcast.
I haven't seen this on other sites but ign has a longer 14-min video that shows more of the gameplay at the end:
http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/09/01/metal-gear-solid-ground-zeroes-extended-14-minute-demo
Use it to stream movies, music and your pictures. I am currently converting my dvd/blu-ray collection to avi files and using Universal Media Server. I am using a Brorsoft converter which uses the avi format that the PS3 can read. It's nice because it preserves all of the surround sound. I also like to play games on mine, but that's me.
LittleBigPlanet 1/2, the new Sam & Max games, the new Monkey Island games.. Knytt Stories is also an interesting low-key 2D platformer that's not overly difficult or punishing of failure and focused on exploration.
1) Only get the official controllers.
2) An HDMI cable is a must if you have an HD TV. Get one off of MonoPrice.
3) Here is a list of the top reviewed PS3 games. Personally I would recommend LittleBigPlanet 2, Portal 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted 2, Valkyria Chronicles, Red Dead Redemption, Heavy Rain, and Batman: Arkham Asylum. There are lot's of other good games, but those are what come to mind.
4) I've never used Craigslist. I've used Kijiji, though. Ebay is also pretty good for games.
5) They only make Dual Shock controllers now. Six Axis controllers came with the console originally.
IGN is a piece of crap.
They posted the following on Twitter yesterday:
"Fun fact: For the time being, our website is being run on the PSN. http://www.ign.com/"
The original source has been deleted and all i can find are "retweets".
They are just further adding to the bullshit, lies and nonsense about PSN and Sony that is currently being spread around the internet mainly through twitter and various blog sites; seriously pathetic bunch of so called journalists.
You probably just used the same login info as on some site that got compromised.
https://haveibeenpwned.com is a good site to use when you suspect your info might've been compromised somewhere on the internet.
Yes, but you'll also want to get the media remote to have better control over playback.
By the by guys, there's actually some other offers going on at Best Buy for PSN cards and PS+ subscriptions:
$10 for $9.50, $20 for $18.50, or $50 for $45 (this one isn't shown there, but it works at checkout)
Here's a fun article (especially the comments) from 6 years ago, mentioning the 10 year expected life of the PS3: http://www.engadget.com/2005/07/25/ps3-expected-to-live-10-years-in-the-market/
I'm happy to be one to take the risk at the PS3 launch. I'm just as happy with the console now as I was then. I am in no hurry to see a PS4.
> Pac-Man CE DX is so addictive it's ridiculous.
91 on Metacritic. That's the same as LBP2.
Also, in case people didn't know, check out /r/PlayStationPlus.
Edit: IGN gave that Pac-man game a perfect 10. I don't know how I never heard of it. Can't wait to try it out.
Who has 6 friends? ^^^^^^Sorry ^^^^^^I ^^^^^^stole ^^^^^^this ^^^^^^joke ^^^^^^from ^^^^^^the ^^^^^^link ^^^^^^I ^^^^^^posted
All joking aside, I found a forum post that has a list of games that support more than 4 players. Another one is apparently Burnout Paradise if you have a specific DLC.
Sony is a large corporation with multiple divisions. Only Sony Music (and film through the MPAA) are supporting SOPA. See the list here: http://gizmodo.com/5870241/presented-without-comment-every-single-company-supporting-sopa-the-awful-internet-censorship-law
Boycotting Playstation products will not impact Sony's film and music branches. Also, please do not hurt game developers and publishers in a misguided attempt to get Sony to withdraw support of SOPA. Instead, go after Sony's music and films. Boycott those products and write to Sony. Sony is not a giant monolith, and the people in the games division have no control over the executives in the music and film divisions.
Also, did Nintendo withdraw support for SOPA? I didn't see them on the list.
I may be wrong about all this, so please don't hate. I just hate to see collateral damage of game makers who have no control over politics. I do think that SOPA is awful and believe that the best thing we can do is call our Congressmen and ask them to vote based on OUR wishes, not those of corporations.
The PS3 also has a Data Transfer Utility that will let you copy everything from your old PS3 to your new one.
There is a program called 'PS3 media server'.
http://www.ps3mediaserver.org/
It does everything you need to stream content from your PC to your PS3.
Pros: Easy installation, friendly interface.
Cons: Streaming can be an issue depending on your wireless signal strenght, and location of ps3 in relation to router.
I'm of no help with Mac's, but try Universal Media Server if you can't get this solved. UMS has more features and one of them is automatic plugin download/install.
I have been enjoying the PSN download Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. It has a great 2p coop mode, both local and online.
(whenever PSN comes back online that is) http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/lara-croft-and-the-guardian-of-light
I live in Barbados bro, I know the feeling.
My PS3 goes through a virtual private network called Unblock-Us () and basically I get Hulu, Netflix (North American), PS3 video store and Pandora. Works fantastic but the catch is that it's CAD$4.99 a month. I know you're a college student and all and might not be able to afford this but this way works great.
By the way, which island are you in anyway?
have you tried Kingdoms of Amalur? metacritic
tons of weapons to find (some are in the 'big ass' persuasion), fairly large world, and a customizable skill tree.
Are you just using the default media sharing in windows? I don't have any experience with that so I wouldn't know how to solve your issue. I do know that I have never had this issue when using PS3 Media Server.
A benefit to also consider PS3 media server is it will also play unsupported files like MKV.
Sorry I don't know a solution to your specific problem though.
Preventative maintenance is a really good idea. I never had any issues with mine, but then read some horror stories about dust build-up and YLODs on this subreddit and decided to get in front of it, especially since I have three dogs running around (lots of pet hair and dust).
I bought the special screwdriver you need off Amazon for like $4, watched some YouTube tutorials, and opened her up. WOW. I couldn't believe the amount of dust and hair that had been collected over the years. And I found that after I cleaned it out and put it back together, it actually ran quieter than it had been running... I hadn't noticed but it had gotten a bit louder over the years. Now I clean it every 6 months like clockwork - I have even started taking my controllers apart and cleaning them out at the same time.
As long as you're careful and following the numerous instructional videos or write-ups, there's really no detriment to keeping your system clean. My PS3 has had regular use for about 8 years now, and I credit its relatively long life to keeping it clean.

You might want to check metacritic, sorted games by console and by year. Granted,it's meta critic, you should take the scores with a grain of salt, and you might still overlook some great games. But if you want some kind of standardized "best games" list, it should do the trick.
Here,s an example : http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/year/ps3?view=condensed&sort=desc&year_selected=2010
Yup. But you need a laptop 2.5 inch hard drive, not a 3 inch desktop.
The Fat was the easiest hard drive to upgrade, the super slim the hardest.
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-upgrade-your-ps3-hdd/
You will also need an external hard drive to backup your data and restore it.
actually, that was true for CDs and DVDs, but Blu-ray has proven to read at identical speeds on the inside of the disc and at the outer edge. The motor speeds up and slows down to compensate and provide consistent read rate, as opposed to the constant rotation speed on CDs, DVDs, and older tech.
Basically, you're wrong.

Hirai's promotion is likely to mean the gaming portion of Sony's business will not be neglected in the next few years, and you can expect bolder moves than would be likely under a more traditional President.
Since 1995 Hirai has been involved in Sony's gaming efforts, and he was involved in the launch of the original Playstation and the PS2. During the early 2000's Hirai was reportedly responsible for the strong 2nd-party franchises on the PS2.
After the PS3 launch went poorly he became President of Sony Computer Entertainment. He was promoted again in 2009, to a position which put him in charge of two massive divisions (still including gaming) within Sony.
The non-speculative information in this post was extracted from Wikipedia and Mobygames.
(I posted this comment here when it was first reported that he'd be promoted, 25 days ago. )
I would recommend not using Playstation (3) Media Server as it is outdated, no longer supported, and has been succeeded by Universal Media Server.
Both require Java, and getting started is pretty much the same: Add your content directories (in the software) then access the local server from the Videos category on the XMB.
I really wouldn't call a Metascore of 77 a sign of "really bad reviews". Sure, it didn't top many critics' Game of the Year lists, but 77 is not to be sniffed at.
Not absolutely necessary, but definitely preferred as the Uncharted series is very movie-like and the story is important. You can buy an uncharted 1 & 2 combo pack for $30.
On top of the games the others said, I would very much recommend Castle Crashers. Up to 4 players local, online, or a combination.
It's a sidescrolling beat-em-up/hack-and-slash that has an art style like a flash game.
Make sure you back up your game saves and anything you've saved on the drive already. If you have PSN+ your game saves should be on the cloud. I just removed my old drive, installed the new one (simple process of removing the panel on the side and one screw to remove the cradle). When I put the new drive in, it detected it and prompted me to format it. The format took less than 1 minute and I was ready to go again.
Be sure to back everything up though, I'm not sure if you can put your old drive back in after the system formats a new one. It's been so long since I did mine, but someone else should have that answer.
Here's a good tutorial. Just about any 2.5" SATA notebook HDD should work.
I think this a game specific bug.I crashed at the exact same spot.I found some other thread online when it happened
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/932984-uncharted-drakes-fortune/47314078
ok so it`s around chapter 17 that it happened.I think it was a chase scene where you ran towards the camera
I only get around 20 MB/s with my PS3's wi-fi and almost 40 by using ethernet cable. The console's wi-fi adapter only supports "b" and "g" standards and will always be slower than a wired connection even with 100% signal strenght.
Try connecting it via ethernet cable and look at the results. If the problems persist, try to find the best DNS server for you and set the new DNS server in your consoles network options and try to find your ideal MTU value.
Movies? Music? Games? Pictures? ...what are you asking here? Games need a modded system, the rest, just convert to ps3 compatable video/ audio/ picutre file, place on HDD. Or.. http://www.ps3mediaserver.org/ Use this and just make life easy...
This doesn't get me extra credit because it's only for three players instead of four, but, in addition to the LBP and Rayman games (which are awesome local multiplayer games and are always, deservedly mentioned in response to this sort of question) you should also check out Trine 2 which is a ton of fun to play with local co-op. I was first recommended to it by this subreddit, in fact.
I bought mine from this guy and they're perfect.
What IBM cancelled was their own Cell processor to be used in server farms, as mentioned in this article. This was a Cell processor which was going to have 2 PPU's and 32 SPU's, and they halted the design - for good reason, I believe. This happened roughly in late November 2009.
Sony, however bought back the Toshiba plant for developing Cell processors in December 2010, which likely means they're going to be in this for the long haul. If the processor had no future with them, I doubt they would have bought the plant.
TL;DR: IBM stopped development on a Cell processor they were designing for themselves, Sony is likely still going to make another one for their own purposes.
According to the Engadget Geohat has not delivered on his original promise of bringing back OtherOS
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/08/geohot-releases-ps3-jailbreak-for-firmware-3-55-world-ceases-to/
But if you can provide an article that details otherwise
People are saying Handbrake, which is the best for converting stuff... but if you ever want to just stream, you should totally check out PS3 Media Server. It's free and once you do some super basic configuration (basically just telling it which folder to share), it's literally one click and then you're streaming. I haven't used a flash drive for months now.
Best part is, if the file in question isn't compatible with the PS3, it automatically converts it as it streams with zero lag. It can also attach subtitles, something the PS3 sucks at by itself.
EDIT: Also it works for more than just video. For example, now when I wanna change my wallpaper on the PS3, I can just navigate to my wallpaper folder on my computer and copy it over. Works great for streaming music too.
Just so everyone knows, IGN and GamesRadar are giving them away for free on their websites
Heads-Up: You must have an account with the website of your choice to get your free code
Deadlocked HD is coming out soon on PSN. From my understanding, it wasn't included in the collection due to most HD collections only having three games.
WebKit has already been ported to PS3 by Netflix. Someone at Sony just needs to steal it off them and swap it in for NetFront.
Sounds like a corrupted file system, hopefully the harddisk itself is does not have any bad sectors.
Take the HDD out, put it in a sata to usb thingy (often sold as harddisk enclosure) and format.
Test the disk itself with a tool like HDDscan, or other utility program to your liking. (Windows has a built in program Chkdsk for that). At least one that does test for bad sectors.
If there are bad sectors, you could have soft or hard bad sectors. Soft ones are repaired instantly by a format again, but you likely shouldn't have any because you just did it. A hard bad sector is a physical broken spot. If that happens, it's broken.
If everything is fixed, put the disk back in the ps3, let it install it's OS and filesystem again and it's like a new ps3.
Can I suggest Universal Media Server?
It's a fork of PS3 Media Server and is regularly updated.
They also have an active support forum.
Eternal Sonata is a decent enough game. I had some fun with it, and amazon should have it for fairly cheap.
NOVUS-PK2-2 | Plastic Clean & Shine #1, Fine Scratch Remover #2 and Polish Mates Pack | 2 Ounce Bottles https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000B4UGZE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_DXN6CEX3RB4T1HQJJ770 Here you go brother. I’d recommend using car wax as a final coat to make it look like new. Here are the steps I used. ⬇️ •Use the towel that comes with the package or micro fiber towel.(Don’t use paper towel it’ll add more scratches) • put some plastic cleaner on the towel and clean the surface of the ps3 shell in circular motion. •Next add some of the scratch remover on PS3(wipe around in circular motion). • clean the surface with the plastic cleaner. •Now you can add the car wax. • Finally, clean the excess wax with the plastic cleaner. You’ll get different results depending on how bad of shape your PS3 shell is. Good luck mate👍
I agree with the others who are saying it is likely a WPA issue. Since it sounds like your ISP owns the router, I'd recommend calling their customer support line for help first as you're likely not the first person with the problem.
However, in case it is not a WPA issue and you really are just not getting an IP address, you could try manually specifying one. Look at the directions here and when you get to the IP Address screen, enter the address manually.
To find a valid IP address to enter, check your phone using an app like Network Info II. Make a note of all the info on the WiFi tab.
For your PS3, you'll want a different IP address, but as a test, just shut off the WiFi on your phone and then enter those details exactly into your PS3 (IP Address, Netmask, Gateway, DNS, etc). If it still doesn't work, then it's definitely not an IP address issue. If it does work, then let me know and I can tell you how to find a safe unused IP address.
Also, when you're done testing, set the PS3's WiFi settings back to automatic so that you can connect your phone again as you can't have two devices with the same address active at the same time.
You'll have to scroll down a bit. I got the ultimate version. Best fighter from 2013 for 10$? Aww, why the hell not.

I'm afraid it's not even that easy. Last thing I read was that the entire console was tied to a PSN profile. Source!
I picked up one of these recently after my dog spilled diet coke into my Dualshock 3. Yes, it's on the expensive side, but honestly it's probably the best controller I've used on any system. The sticks are short and easy to grip, with a smooth throw with good range that doesn't feel too long. D-Pad feels great, buttons are solid with a satisfying press that's not mushy. Has both solid plastic and rubberized grips you can switch out. Triggers feel great and the whole thing is quite nicely weighted. It's wired, but the cord is braided and around 9' or so, so I haven't found it to be an issue. Really the only knock against the controller is the price, but personally I think it's worth it, especially if you're looking for a controller similar to that of the 360. Most of the others with similar designs I've found to feel cheap or uncomfortable.
Gamespot is giving away a ton of these beta codes if you check out this page. Make sure you've signed up for an account. And there's 4 other betas you can get codes to.
Well it's 150 bucks brand new from walmart without the game , but you can find the game for 25 bucks preowned at gamestop. So since the walmart one is brand new and comes with a warranty, I guess you should ask for less than 150 bucks, probably around 100 if you want to sell it quick. Maybe you can trick someone who doesn't know about walmart price, but I doubt it.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/PlayStation-3-500GB-Console-PS3/43604185
I would wait until that 70$ price drop walmart currently has ends, or they run out of stock (don't know if this is a real possibility any soon though)
He's trolling you, Sony has openly said that a firmware update will come before psn services are restored. No 3.61, no psn.
This is exactly what happened to me. Buy PS3... play for a few days then realize, holy crap I need a new TV!
I ended up going with a Panasonic 42" plasma. More than a year later I still think it is one of the best investments I have made in a long time (the PS3 + TV).
Go around each district and mark down all the ones you already have... Since you have 349... all you have to do is walk around and R3 everywhere you go, praying for a blue circle :D
https://www.amazon.com/PS3-New-Owners-Kit-PlayStation-3/dp/B005QP3MGI
I got one of these from one of the New York online photo places (don't remember which one, B&H maybe?) for $50 shipped. Seems like they've been discontinued at every site I hit, better hurry on Amazon if you want one. Didn't really need the usb or hdmi cable, but I did end up with a genuine controller with great battery life.
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-to-upgrade-your-playstation-3-hard-drive/1100-6176090/
Buy the cheapest console you can find (within reason, newer consoles are better than launch models) and then just upgrade the hard drive.
As an example: 640gb hard drive is $33 on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Generic-640gb-Laptop-Internal-Drive/dp/B00AAKF89S/
Or you can buy a used 250gb hard drive for probably $20 on /r/hardwareswap
I subscribe to . Basically I input the DNS they provide me into the connection info on the PS3 and boot up Netflix. Whichever region I choose through Unblock-Us, that's the Netflix I get when I boot up the app on the PS3. Quite simple, assuming you can afford $45/year.
I use Unblock-Us.
I also use it to get around black outs for NHL GameCenter Live. Probably not a thing for you, but it's there. They support a load of services. It's a DNS so I just setup the custom DNS servers on my router and now all my devices can watch whatever from wherever I choose. $5/mo.
The Last of Us is on sale on PSN this week, Puppeteer will be on sale next week.
But for the people who prefer a physical copy, this Best Buy sale looks to be your best bet.
The Last of Us - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/the-last-of-us-playstation-3/5400601.p?id=1218642234467&skuId=5400601&st=last%20of%20us&lp=1&cp=1
btw for those that want Ni No Kuni for $20 here is an advertised sale (Best Buy) if you click on the used game link it is also on sale for $18
it appears you have to be a new rewardzone member? I am already one, and I don't see a discount.
According to this list, Sony Electronics, Sony Music, Sony Music Nashville, Sony Music Publishing and Sony Pictures are all on record as supporting SOPA.
I wasn't even aware of two of those divisions.
I think Far Cry 3 is better and one of the best games of last year.
But Borderlands 2 is on sale on PSN this week in a cheap dual pack with the first one. Hope you have PS+! Getting both Borderlands 1&2 for $21 is a great deal. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/04/09/playstation-store-update-286/
and Far Cry 3 just dropped to $30. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Far+Cry+3+-+PlayStation+3/3974567.p;jsessionid=6661A40ECF6C57B10DF994AAFE7BD45A.bbolsp-app04-128?id=1218446805958&skuId=3974567&st=Save_on_Hot_Game_Titles_105581&lp=4&cp=1
Hell, spend $51 and get them all :D
I knew it would support at least 2 players. Back in the day, the PS1 only had 2 controller ports. To get 4 players, someone would have to buy a multi-tap to allow for 2 additional controller ports bringing the total to 4 players. This guide shows how to emulate the multi-tap on the PS3. It's very straight forward and, as long as you have 4 controllers, will be playing MP in no time!
Be warned the final boss fight in Orange Box Portal lags and frame drops like crazy on PS3. It is beatable but unfortunately makes the fight a lot harder than it should be. Same goes for Episode2 for HL2. :(
Just trying to save you some hassle in case you don't want to invest the time before you run into these issues. I still enjoyed TF2 on PS3 through Orange Box though.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2007/12/11/the-orange-box-review?page=3 > The PlayStation 3 Orange Box performs far worse, and this fact just isn't up for debate. While framerate issues aren't as problematic in Half-Life 2 and Episode One, Episode Two suffers a great deal, especially during the episode's larger battles. We regret to say that some sections border on being unplayable because of the stutters, which often cause your aim to be thrown off and timing shots to be very difficult. The problem isn't persistent throughout, but when it hits, it hits hard.
Thats not entirely true. I have installed an SSD on one of my ps3's and it is significantly faster than my other ps3 on certain actions. On disc based games, you may not notice any difference, but when it comes to reading data off the hard drive, it is plenty faster. There are also countless articles comparing load times and other things for various games with ssd vs standard hard drives on the ps3.
Some of my download games are so fast that I hardly see the load screens. In fact, I dislike games that have instructions or text on load screens now because often I do not have enough time to read the load screen before it actually loads.
I'm guessing it's Crackle. Here's what's on their network ATM.
No Fringe.
I am not any any rush to get the 4 or "The One" by any means. RRoDs and HDD fries have taught me to be patient and wait. This review had me giggling...
>When Sony unveiled their PlayStation 4, one of my complaints was that it focused too much on games and not enough on becoming more than just a console.
Really? Maybe because IT IS A GAMING CONSOLE!
It's an adapter you plug in to your PS3:s USB slot and then you plug in your mouse and keyboard to the adapter. This is an example of one model.
I don't think you know the meaning of the word "underrated". Metacritic has the game at a 79 which would be a C+ in school. High side of average, not quite "good". It fits the game well.
I guess nobody's talking about Remember Me because it's getting mediocre reviews. The marketing for it hasn't been good either as I just stumbled across the title last week and haven't heard much about it since.
As of last month for 11,867 reviews on Metacritic IGN rated 60% of games higher than the average critic, 7% on the average, and 33% lower than the average critic.
However, on average across all their reviews IGN grades 4 points lower than other critics. In other words, the amount it grades higher when it grades higher is offset by a larger gap between IGN and the average when it grades games lower than the average.
So IGN grades higher than other outlets twice as frequently as it grades lower, but the intervals result in them giving on average lower scores. Here's an example to illustrate how the math works:
Game A: IGN 8.0, Other Reviewers Average 7.0
Game B: IGN 8.0, Other Reviewers Average 7.0
Game C: IGN: 7.04, Other Reviewers Average 10.0
IGN Overall Average: 7.68
Other Reviewers Overall Average: 8.0
So you can see that IGN gives an average score 4% lower than the other reviewers, even though it gives higher scores than they do twice as often as it gives lower scores.
Metacritic.com. Maybe their weighting system isn't perfect, but the more reviews they've averaged together the more I trust the metacritic score for a game. This is how I look at it: If you balance the people biased in favor of a game with the people biased against it then you get the most fair aggregate opinion possible.
For instance, Gamekult gave Portal 2 a score of 7/10, but so many other publications gave it better scores that its metascore is 95/100. If I had only read that one review, I might have passed on Portal 2, because I'd expect it to be a huge disappointment compared to Portal.
No single site is right on the money with every single review, but if I'm reading reviews at all what I care about is the consensus, and Metacritic gives me that.
Here you go: A new custom PS3 in a great color. A complete set of some of the very best action games on PS2 and PS3. All for a fantastic price.
You can use the PSN Card to purchase anything on the PS Store (such as DLC, games, movies, etc.).
Here is a link to the $240 deal. Also, you can stack it with another Best Buy deal (when you buy a $50 gift card you get a $10 gift card free); however, you might not get the gift cards before the other deal expires.
Do it.
There are much less hidden fees, much less headaches and browse slickdeals; many places are offering $50 gift cards with purchase of a 160GB PS3.
Then upgrade your HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148371
SSD isn't very efficient for a PS3. You will have shorter load times, but it won't be earth shattering.
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/playstation-ps3-ssd-upgrade-loading,11811.html
For load times, spindle speed matters more than cache. I dropped a 5400 Hitachi from my laptop. It's fine. Tons more space.
Don't over think it. I mean, unless you have the money and like to be wasteful; go with the SSD. If you just want to upgrade the drive, go with what is reliable and cheap. You only load every once in a while, anyways.
No. Update Aquatic is the last release for the legacy game systems, Wii U, XBox 360, and PS3. That was stated directly by Mojang on their own website.

The PS4 is not expected to come out this year. It will probably come out in 2013 or 2014. For more info on the PS3 hardware revisions, check this link
In terms of good PS3 games, I would recommend the following: God of War 3, the Uncharted Series, Heavy Rain, Infamous 1 & 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Red Dead Redemption, Demon's Souls, Dead Space 1 & 2. On the topic of upcoming releases, The Last of Us will be coming to the PS3 as an exclusive and IMO it looks like it could be a must-buy.
In terms of what has gamers talking, Mass Effect 3 should be at the top of the list, although the fervor over the ending seems to have died down. Another game that's getting a lot of press is PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. This game is like Super Smash Bros. but with Playstation characters like Kratos and the sure to be overpowered Parappa the Rapper. Expect it to be released later this year. A title that "pushes the limits" is Journey which is unique in a lot of ways. Check out its gameplay footage
FYI, best buy is selling a combo right now with eye, move, nav, sharpshooter, killzone 3, and resitance 3 for $100. This is a fantastic deal even when you stack it up against the occasional 50% off sale on accessories
If you want this I'd suggest ordering ASAP; it's listed on deal sites and will likely be gone within the day. Currently available as of the time of this comment.
PC version has retained its value pretty well, actually. A year after release, and it's still $40 regular price, and has only been 66% off ($13.59) a handful of times.

It may be equal to $5 on Steam within a year or two, but probably not cheaper.
Pretty much every top game on Metacritic for the PS3. I, too, haven't much interest in most first-person games (not because I play on PC, just because I don't really gravitate to them). They aren't all bad or anything but most just feel so bland and boring to me. That's part of why I lost interest in the 360 of late and have been playing the hell out of my PS3. I look at the 360 as the FPS console and the PS3 as the more unique library.
Though I will say Portal 2 bucks the trend as a first-person game I just love.
Split/Second suffered being overshadowed by more well-known racing titles like Motorstorm and Need For Speed. However, I've honestly never had more fun with a racing game than this one, and the fact that it supports split screen makes it that much better.
Enslaved is great too, and for the price (should be under/around 20$) it is definitely worth it.
Playstation Japan gave two solid dates on May 1st
> 1. Guide update (today) > 4. "PlayStation Network" full resumption of service (in May)
Everything else says "soon," but it gives a good timeline of what to expect.
If I remeber correctly, XBL went down once. But not because of hackers, simply because of the increased number of people using it during the holiday season. I'm pretty sure if XBL got the attention of Anon we'd see the same thing.
I turned on my 360 and found the game we all got for free. It was called Undertow: http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/undertow/index.html
Pretty crappy game. I hope Sony does better than that.
Yeah, in my PS3 backlog alone I apparently have over 45 days' worth of non-stop gaming... I have little interest in saying farewell to the console any time soon. And there will still be plenty of games to buy as even more dirt-cheap sales occur.
I am okay using the official PS3 controller, but I do generally prefer the Xbox 360 type. So I bought one of these when Best Buy was clearing them out:
http://tgsreviews.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/rocketfish-ps3-rapid-fire-wireless-controller-review/
basically it is a PS3 controller with the same layout as the Xbox controller, and closer in size to the Xbox 360 controller. I have never used the rapid fire function, so I can't comment on it, but in general the controller works fine. build quality is not up there with Sony, and sometimes it feels to me like the official controllers are a bit more responsive. But I am currently using it to play through Killzone 3 (I definitely like having real trigger buttons, and remapped the controller so the trigger is fire) and it is working just fine.
best buy does not sell it anymore, but this looks similar.
The Panasonic Viera series is also good. You don't really need anything over 720p because very few games support 1080p unless you're going to watch some blu-ray movies. In my experience Plasmas seemed to have more vibrant colors but that's just my two cents. I don't think you'd be dissapointed with either but if you should probably buy a LCD/LED TV as it is newer technology than Plasma.

So which design are you looking for? You don't want ones marked Playstation 3? The newest game I have is Crysis 2 and it has the Blu-Ray logo in the corner. Here is just the Blu-Ray logo one : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-SONY-Blu-Ray-case-PS3-Games-NEW-/130571088337?pt=BI_Blank_Media&hash=item1e66a4b1d1
