For anyone that uses Chrome, there is an awesome add on in the store called PSDLE. This lets you search and sort your library, and even separates PS+ games from the stuff you have bought yourself. You can export all of this data in to a csv, and play around in Excel/Google Sheets all you want. Once installed, just go to the PSN store page, and click on the PSDLE icon at the bottom left of the screen, and it will start searching through your downloads.
If you have an Android phone, you can even use My Game Collection to import the csv, and it creates a pretty sweet database of your games. Easily the quickest way to make a searchable library for yourself. I don't believe that there is an iOS app, but you might find one if you look around a bit
Check out My Game Collection
Not only it catalogs your games, it imports ratings from metacritic and how long to beat from HLTB and more info.
Extremely useful to dump my huge catalog of PSPlus games, since the interface on PS3 Store is a pain.

Definitely yes; I've been using this app to maintain my backlog. I've got the categories sorted as follows:
The MGC app lets you pick a random option within the category, which really helps with the decision paralysis, so I've used that a couple times to pick the next target. That said, I do try to aim for shorter games first so as to reduce that intimidating number more quickly and I try to play multiple entries in a series in relative succession. There's also a few very long games in there (Morrowind, CLANNAD) that I'd like to save until last so that I can take them at a more leisurely pace, so they will always be last in line.
I think my app My Game Collection qualifies as such. It helps you keep track of your game, hardware, amiibo & skylanders collection over all platforms: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
I don't have apple, so I can't really compare the two, but if you're looking to add stuff to a game collection, then I'd really reccommend MyGameCollection. They even have a sub.
If you have an Android device I recommend My Game Collection, it has a list of all figures ever released and what game they are compatible with. You can also mark what figures you have, and which ones you want. It allows us to know which figures to look out for for our kids :)
On android I am absolutely in love with My Game Collection. The guy has a great detailed interface that works well and has a subreddit where he responds to users thoughts and suggestions. I'd check it out if you had an android device!
I have put My Game Collection on sale as well, because you need something to track all those games you buy, want & own :)
For the short amount of time I tried it out, My Game Collection (Tracker) seemed decent. You can even import your Steam library.
I've been using this app to keep track of my backlog; I've been hitting "random" on my to-play list and have passed up on a few suggestions before (either because I want to handle them last, like Morrowind, or because I wanted a change of pace after drawing multiple action-heavy titles in a row or some such). Taking it more of a suggestion than anything.
I use the MY Game Collection app on Android. Let's my backup the file to the Google drive in case anything happens. Has good filtering options and I can also add notes for condition, time played etc. You can scan barcodes even.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
If you are using an Android phone I can recommend My Game Collection. The beta version allows you to export to a website, so that your friends can see your collection.
I use My Game Collection like you ask it uses your XBL and PSN details to import your collections which you can then tag, filter and sort in different ways.
I second this. You can also export it, and then import into My Game Collection and get even more filtering options (like PS+, time to beat, etc)
If you have an Android device take a look at My Game Collection. It has support for Skylanders, lego dimensions, disney infinity & amiibo
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
The link above is what I use: "My Game Collection" for Android. It's got a free version with ads and a one-time pay version without ads. Based on your bullet list above, it sounds like this app is exactly what you want.
If you have an Android device, then you can use "My Game Collection". It supports all characters, traps, magic items, card & adventures. You can mark items as 'Wishlist', and apply various filters
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
(It also supports amiibo, and allows tracking of games & hardware)
a feature rich organizer/trackerfor your hardware, video game & video game related figures (amiibo, Skylanders) library that uses a very large online game database over all platforms.
Track what you own & want in style and quickly access your collection via the extensive filters, sorting and grouping features.
MGC brings a lot of data together from various sources (YouTube, Google, GameFAQs), but still enables you to edit most of it, giving you complete control over your own collection. It does all this in beauty while presenting you with an easy to use interface.
Track & share what you own & want for all Disney Infinity games with a beautiful & social touch.
I use My Game Collection for android. You can also catalog all your games and hardware as well as Skylanders and Disney Infinity.
Since OP will create the app for iOS it can't hurt to promote my app for Android: My Game Collection has support for amiibo's (and lots lots more) & wishlists & sorting :)
My Game Collection https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection is capable of scrubbing Steam profile.
Don't see such option for GoG so that leaves adding games manually to the library but it lacks an option to filter them by 'shop' so forces to create custom lists - 'views'.
For real. Android has the only video game cataloging app worth a damn (MyGameCollection), and I’ve been waiting ages for them to announce an iOS beta.
More great apps for everyone, please.
It's actually called "my game collection" on Android. It has more details, like how long to beat times and metacritic scores, and customization than others that I've seen.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
I am using this app for the past few years and is pretty simple to use, just keep a backup somewhere in case phone data gets lost
I use My Game Collection app. It takes a little bit to setup but you can configure it a lot. I use it to keep track of games I own and haven't finished and games I want. You can set a search filter for the games you've finished. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
That's a tough one to anweser. Most games I've played over the years stand out due to the memories of playing them and what was going on in my life. Back when i got my hands on the OG Xbox i was still in high school, buying games from the discount bin at the toystore or music store ... Getting the x360 and playing Dead rising only to realize my Tube TV is not really working out and buying a 720p tv... Playing GTA V I my student appartment while having the flu and 100% the story... Just way to much to describe.
The app i have been using for a while is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection For games and hardware
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
It sorts everything in alphabetical order. Gives no option to sort by console so sorry about that. It does say what Console it belongs to :)
I use an app called My Game Collection and it's been great so far.
I mostly just use the Wishlist and Collection but there are a lot of way to keep track of your rating, your completion time, etc.
fallout 4,dark souls series, sekiro, control. Maybe pick one of these or i can export to you my list from my game collection
Dang, I really love the My Game Collection app, and it's probably one of the first you tried. While it can export a csv, that's hardly optimal. I'm totally on board with your criteria concerning manual sorting, especially without the use of trickery; that said, I'd love an example of how that might look, if possible. I'll keep my eye out for apps!
Edit: iOS, or Android?
If you want something that's free (with ads, or a one time payment for no ads)
Check out My Game Collection. It's what I use. It has lots of options, and looks very nice, in dark mode anyways.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
I am using "My game collection" app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection It has everything I need and the only thing I would add is a way to access it from desktop, preferably through the browser.
I've used mygamecollection Android app for years and it's pretty solid. Lots of platform, hardware, game collections, links to game info sites, loan and wishlist catalogues, import & export facilities, ratings, upcoming and just released lists and more https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection No online sadly but I've exported from here and imported into gamefaqs website before
My Game Collection is an app that lets you log into your account and import your games list. Then you can tag and filter your games in different ways.
I use it to keep track of my backlog.
You can export your list as a csv to print or edit in excel.
I've been using My Game Collection. When you go to add a game to your owned list or wishlist you can filter by release date to see what's coming out soon. You can also filter that upcoming release list by specific platforms.
My Game Collection for Android. It doesn't support more than one picture per game, sadly.
I don't think detailed pictures for each individual game (unless it's super rare) are required for insurance though. If you took a picture of a game shelves, or a video of it, where the titles are visible, I think that's enough. But definitely Google around on that.
I use an app on my phone called MyGameCollection (available on Android, with a dedicated website in the works). It's really complete for my tastes, with importing from a variety of sources, it automatically fetches valuable information from up to date sources (release dates, formats, covers, Metacritic scores, How Long To Beat info, etc), you can tag, sort, display your collection however you want, back it up, etc. It's done by a single developer, who's really reactive on the dedicated subreddit if you need any help or are having some bugs. You can also tracks hardware and amiibo, even though I don't use these features at all. You can use most features for free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection is what i've been using for a couple of years, bought the premium verison so i could back it up easily to dropbox and sync with my tablet too
For video game collectors, My Game Collection is incredible, and the developer actually responds to questions or requests.
Collecting is awesome. Few tips tho:
Take it slow, there is no rush really.
Install something like this on your Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection&hl=en
Keep your stuff organized and tidy early. It can be a real hassle later on to find and store stuff if you don't.
If you have an android device you can install My Game Collection. It contains all figures (and the cards) + it says with what games which figures are compatible: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
Link me: My Game Collection
Beautiful collection tracker for games, hardware, amiibo's & Skylanders
Edit: For some reason the bot found the premium, there is a free version as well: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
My Game Collection does this for games and even collects HowLongtoBeat data, so you can find a game based on the time you have available.
Try My Game Collection: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
It's a collection tracker, where you can also have a wishlist. App will download the release date when added. Or you could look up the release date in the online database without adding the game to your collection/wishlist as well.
I'm on Android and I use My Game Collection (Tracker). The free version let's you track all model Amiibo. You need the paid version to track the cards, though. It has the added benefit of tracking video games you own, too.
It works so well and I was so impressed with it that I build in Import support for psdle in 'My Game Collection. Been using it for months this way and psdle worked perfectly everytime I create an export (and MGC too, of course ☺)
It works so well and I was so impressed with it that I build in Import support for psdle in 'My Game Collection. Been using it for months this way and psdle worked perfectly everytime I create an export (and MGC too, of course ☺)
Since OP will create the app for iOS it can't hurt to promote my app for Android: My Game Collection has support for amiibo's (and lots lots more) & compatibility chart :)
For people with an Android phone/tablet, I recently added Skylanders support to My Game Collection. You can check what you own (easy, fast & beautiful) and use various filters. Free to download & use (with ads): Google Play
no problem. I've posted it a few times, no clue why it's not a sticky all over this and other subreddits... but it's the best ever. Every few months I export all my info to excel so it's much easier to keep track of... plus if you are an Android user, THIS app can import PSDLE files :)
Tracks pretty much everything. You can add your own labels/tags and modify pretty much anything. You can add games from the online database or add them manually
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
Reading all of this I feel less bad about my habits :)
My story seems the same as most here, not to many games growing up, so compensating now. Also TV doesn't interest me that much, so if I have free time I play, but somehow I have more free time in my head then I really have because I do have the intention to play all those games :)
I even wrote an Android app (My Game Collection) to track what I own and what not, now I try to see buying games as 'research' :p
We even have almost all the Disney Infinity figures ... for the kids ... :) (And of course I wrote an Android app for this as well)
It is itching pretty bad for the Amiibo's too at this point.
For Android users that feel left out, check out 'My Game Collection'.
I've been using it for a few years now, and if you are like me and have a TON of games on PSN, you can actually use a tool called PSDLE (there is also a Chrome extension for PSDLE, which is what I used) to export your entire PSN catalog, then import it into 'My Game Collection'.
I had to play around with PSDLE to get it export just the games and not a bunch of add ons, but this saved me a ton of time. It is even smart enough to know which ones are PS+ titles, and you can label them as such within My Game Collection, which is nice to see, just in case you ever want to check the games that you would lose if you let your subscription lapse.
I have a full NA Dreamcast set. It was a lot of fun to collect. I recommend using some type of collection tracker.
I use both of these:

I've been using this for my playstation collection. It does a good job with the cover art, it has 90% textless covers, but you can use your own image of you wish. It's decent with the metadata but can sometimes be iffy with finding proper release dates, you can manually change it all though if you wish. You can create a bunch of different colour coded labels for grouping games. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tuyware.mygamecollection
My Game Collection is a solid little app too.
