What the fuck is this horseshit? You come here and try to troll people? Fuck off kid, this is a mod where one of my good friends ported over the assets from the Dreamcast version including maps to the PC. This sure in the hell isn't Half-Life 2 on DC.
There is a mod porting HL2 assets into the HL1 GoldSource engine, and everything, but that sure in the hell isn't this, and ABSOLUTELY will not work on the Dreamcast due to needing custom .dll's which the HL SDK can't compile for DC.
This thing thing has saved me so many times:

This is a link to a PC port of the Dreamcast version of Half-Life, so it's not for the Dreamcast and it certainly isn't Half-Life 2.
It should be noted that this game has had a PC port for a long time. This appears to be a new remaster though, and not that version, so it's still exciting news.
Why don't we do it right here?
Kind of like how old tv show subreddits pick an episode to watch each week and then comment on, as if it were a new episode (and not ten years old and canceled) so everyone is on the same page at the same time.
We could use this list. http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?platform=1&mode=all&sort=release&dlx_type=all&sortdir=desc&official=all
Start at the first real game on the list (the start is a lot of unsorted garbage it seems)
Skip games that never got reviewed (Using good judgement if there is a good import we should't skip) , maybe skip shovelware by putting a limit of the review score (skip 4.5s and below or something) and do five games a week.
Could work, could breath some life back into the community having a "games of the week" kind of things.

Hi, I am a small youtuber that does Dreamcast gameplays and reviews (in spanish) and here is the method I use to record Dreamcast gameplay:
With those 3 things you can play, record and upload your Dreamcast Videos to your Youtube Channel or equivalent.
Here is a Link to my 18 Wheeler PAT Dreamcast Arcade run.
A Dreamcast disc is 1GB, but a CD-R is 700MB. Overburning a CD-R would still never fit 1GB. Games have to be repackaged to fit on a CD-R, and the process is complicated.
Most games have already been converted to 700MB in DiscJugger CDI format, so look for those files.
It's against Reddit's rules to say where to find copyrighted games, but the Dreamcast version of Cave Story is freeware. Try burning the CDI from that site in DiscJuggler.
Until now, I never actually knew what he was saying, settling on "PETA, I love a man's shoe" in my mind (strictly for amusement purposes -- I knew there was no way that was even close). Thanks for enlightening me.
After googling around, I didn't uncover much, other than this thread that found some other examples of its use (one going back as far as 1993), but with no conclusive source.
I wonder if rechargeable button cells would work. You could get this charger from Aliexpress and a couple of these batteries from Amazon. For around $25, you could potentially never have to worry about replacing batteries ever again.
Mayflash do one I cannot comment on quality (or where they are available) but if its anything like the gamecube one, it should work fine
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mayflash-Dreamcast-Controller-Converter-Adapter/dp/B00K7YK0YA
The Sylverant servers have a backup system for characters. Upon loading into the lobby, use /Save [slot] to save the character to the server. To restore use /Restore [slot] to save the character back to the memory card. Note Restore only works on Dreamcast as it is exploiting a bug in the code to allow for a full character to save back to the system.
Early on, Sega had problems with defective GD-Roms. I would assume that was all sorted out by the time Outtrigger shipped, but who knows. At the very least, there were likely a few defective discs slipping through, just like there always are.
Do you have any real games to try? Some times even real disks will fail the boot check if the system is having issues.
Try really cleaning the laser pickup lens with a semi-damp cloth.
Use Alcohol 120% or Imgburn software.
Imgburn can be found here free
Also download the add-on at the bottom of the page, Padus .CDI File Mounter v1.0.0.12.
You can still buy brand new ones on Amazon for a little over 20 bucks.
I bought some from ebay that worked perfectly. The only thing you have to do is sand the dreamcast joystick base part a little bit. The plastic stick that connects to the dreamcast thumbstick. Otherwise the ps4 thumbstick will sit a little to high and rub the controller and won't work or feel proper. I bought the black versions of these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-Red-Thumbstick-Replacement-for-PS4-PlayStation-4-DualShock-Controller/221580748050?hash=item33973de512:g:O3cAAOSwR0JURELx
The other option I tried are thumbstick caps from Xbox one on amazon, even though they fit perfect, they are a bit clunky making the dreamcast thumbstick clunky!
The 512GB SD card support is not a feature exclusive to this 'pro' clone board. I'm using one of the 'standard' clone GDEMU models and it supports the 512GB Lexar microSDXC card with adapter I bought for it just fine.
Let's not unintentionally spread misinformation. Again.
First, you need to solder the lid switch from your old GD-ROM onto your new USBGDROM. That allows you to use the disk swap function.
Then, download the latest Sylverant PSO patcher from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/sylverant/files/
Then swap from patcher to PSO, and you're in!
Extension cables are always going to increase the chance of problems, though I've got a couple of cheap AliExpress extension cables and they all work fine with the standard Sega controllers and peripherals. The only real issue is that the controller plug doesn't "click" into the extension lead socket, so gravity can pull it out, but I've not had that cause problems during gameplay. If your cables are similar it sounds like they could be faulty.
> The second thing is the clock. If I go a while without playing the DC, even though it is plugged into the wall the whole time, I have to set the clock again. Is that normal? Is there a way around that?
The power switch on the Dreamcast disconnects it from mains power, so it's not drawing any power when plugged in and switched off. During this time the clock is run from a rechargeable ML2032 battery soldered to the controller board. The idea is that when the console is powered on the battery gets charged, but the battery will eventually wear out and fail to hold a charge and you'll need to reset the clock if the console is switched off for more than a few hours. You will need to unsolder the existing battery and attach a new one. I recommend replacing it with a battery holder with the same footprint as the original part and a separate ML2032 so that should it need to be replaced in the future you won't need to get your soldering iron out again. Do make sure to use a rechargeable battery and not a CR2032 or similar!
What do you mean by independent?
If you mean is that really all it consist of is a DC wired up to the internals of a TV then yeah. It was meant to be like a mini-PC type of thing. I mean, at the time the DC could be used to surf the net pretty well, but the net has changed so much over the years lol.
I seen somebody take an Imac and put a DC inside it to kinda create their own cheap Divers 2000 DC lol. I mean, the Imacs back then were kinda similar in outward appearance, although not as extreme.
I have my controllers in the same ports as yours, so it should work.
As mentioned though it does seem a bit finicky, I did find I had to move the mouse as straight up as I could (if I moved at an angle it didn't seem to detect that I wanted to move it up to the keyboard).
I did find this scan of the manual (sorry about the site it's hosted on!) but it doesn't seem to explain very much about how to get the mouse working.
I used these, added bonus most of them have the disc art in them which is nice for GDEMU and they aren't crappy scene releases.
Both have their pros and cons:
USB GDROM Pros:

There may be inaccurate/incomplete pros or cons. This list was made mostly from memory from someone who doesn't own either one (yet).
The dialogues in the game are so well written. My wife loves listening to it for some reason lol
My favorite part about old games is they can run on the throwaway windows PC laptops I keep around. NwN is a ton of fun and they often pretty much give it away on sites like gog.com
There are third party (and official) extended memory cards (not VMU) - the catch is that I believe the Dreamcast was only designed to be able to see 200 blocks of memory at a time - the extended cards have to use "pages" that are toggled by a physical button or switch on the card itself.
As others have said, it is possible to free up a few blocks by basically deleting the VMU's GUI - 28kb of 128kb total storage was reserved for the OS.
E: To your original question, I have seen where people have gutted a VMU and installed a Raspberry Pi Zero to essentially turn it into a mini console with obviously more than 128kb memory, but I doubt it would be possible to do the same and still use it as a DC memory card.

DEMUL claims to be able to run WinCE games, haven't tried myself:
I haven't played it and don't know if it is still being played, but you could always check out Armada Online:
My bad. My information was perhaps a bit out of date about the emulator being paid software. Only certain features are locked away but this must have changed since the last time I used it in 2019 and now. https://redream.io/download
Just an update on this, I found that one way to sort of do what I want to do is to simply convert from GDI to CHD.
The application chdman.exe included with MAME is a command-line utility that is used to do various tasks with CHDs. Little did I know that in the last couple years(?) CHD went from "just for harddrives" to being useful for a bunch of different stuff, including Sega CD and other disc-based systems.
The primary benefits here are that you get immediately-playable ROMs that are compressed, so they take up less space on disk.
The Marvel Vs Capcom 2 dump I referenced above that takes 1.1 GB of space in its uncompressed state? 145 MB in CHD format.
The main drawback I can see to this is compatiblity. I'm pretty sure there's no GDEMU that can run CHD files, so this is not a good destination format if you're going to use real Dreamcast hardware. For ReDream it works just fine :)
The command syntax for chdman.exe is simple:
chdman.exe -createcd -i <path to GDI file here> -o <path where you want your output CHD file here>
I believe so, if I understand what you're asking - download and install ImgBurn, then download the Padus .CDI File Mounter and extract the files directly into the ImgBurn installation directory.
Now when you run ImgBurn you can choose the option to "Write image file to disc" and browse for the CDI in the "Source" section (or drag and drop the CDI file onto the running application).
Holy shit. Thank you so much. That was easy as hell.
For anyone reading this looking for a solution, imgburn is it. Download and install, write at 10x speed on a CD-R, and you're good to go.
Thanks again man, you've saved me a two hour trip back home.
Hm, that rings a bell, I think I might have had issues with an SD card that previously been used to boot a Raspberry Pi from. I can't remember if I resolved it by switching to a different SD card or whether using the SD Memory Card Formatter and using that to reset the size of the card fixed the issue, sorry. :( As far as I recall it does need to be FAT32, too, not FAT16.
Do you have another SD card to try with?
Freecycle is another thing where people are always giving away really quite good (for the time) CRT TVs for free. Just make sure you go with a friend if you're picking up a TV over 28" as they can be super-heavy as fuck.
All I know is this one is working fine about a week in after maybe 20 reboots. Did not do any power supply modification."Free Disk Optical Drive Simulation Module for GDEMU DC Dreamcast V5.15B" on eBay, mine was ~$47.69. Used this guide. 128GB SanDisk, I grabbed this one. Works great. For multiple disc games, put each disc image in a separate folder and click the button on the GDEMU to move on to the next disc when the time comes.
It works...but doesn't look good. A good DC to HDMI will change your life. https://www.amazon.com/Link-Cable-Dreamcast-Console-Pieces/dp/B07MYWSZKB/ref=pd_sbs_1?pd_rd_w=ZmfTG&pf_rd_p=2419a049-62bf-452e-b0d0-ca5b7e35a7b4&pf_rd_r=GE9A9DGJ3GDA5J0909V5&pd_rd_r=b7d10bc4-8fcf-4513-a60a-d90e8093ef71&pd_rd_wg=0IOKL&pd_rd_i=B07MYWSZKB&psc=1#customerReviews
I just picked up a Weller soldering station at my local hardware store. Seems to work pretty well for me
Hi, I use this VGA to HDMI Upscaler that I got on Amazon: Link to get the crystal clear DC image out to my capture card and tv, it does have a nice almost hidden feature that by holding the mode switch button (between component and VGA) it stretches the image to full 1080 with no borders, here is a video of my 18 Wheeler capture: Link, hope this helps out.
Thanks. I think I'd like to start with s-video if I can find a reliable cable, since I'm not sure I want to spend ~$20 for a VGA cable plus $30-50 for a VGA to Component converter.
> ...so if they only carried a composite signal you'd either get no picture at all or a black and white one
That's exactly what I'm reading in some of the Amazon reviews for readily available Dreamcast s-video cables. This for example, in the top review for the first cable that comes up in a search on Amazon:
>The S-Video doesn't work at all, and here's why:
>The connection for the Luminance S-Video is connected to the SAME PIN as the composite signal.
>The S video Chroma and Luminance pins are not connected to ANYTHING at all.
Is there a particular brand or source of S-Video cable that you'd trust?
The cheap ones found on Amazon and Ebay, such as this one are for the most part great for the money. They do not do any kind of upscaling, but most modern TVs can handle 480p scaling just fine. Fortunately this also means they add no additional lag.
If you are a perfectionist though, there is an issue that may be a deal breaker. And this is my understanding of the issue, so someone correct me if I am getting this wrong. The Dreamcast VGA outputs a 640x480 image, but crams it into a 720x480 signal. Using one of these HDMI converters can result in an image that is slightly squished. It's not something that bothers me personally, as in I'm not about to pay $100+ for something to correct it, but it may drive you nuts. If your TV lets you adjust the horizontal size you can correct it, but I believe there is still a slight loss in resolution.
If you take the system and look where the board is for the controller ports, there is a battery soldered onto the board. Its the battery for the date and time. But by now they are all dead. But its super easy to replace them by desoldering the 3 points under the battery and soldering in a new one. Here is a link to a new slotted battery holder replacement:

I use this in my clone GDEMU, no problems. Format to FAT32 and you're good to go.
This is the one I bought to replace a VGA to HDMI scaler. It works perfectly.
Sega Dreamcast HDMI Converter - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SK85NGH/ref=cm_sw_r_other_taa_iGZeFbKH4RMN7
But it's not an upscaler, I guess you'd need a ossc for framemeister for that.
This is what I have for mine and it works great!
https://www.amazon.ca/Pound-Technology-Link-Cable-Dreamcast/dp/B07BZP7HML
I got mine for cheaper than Amazon at a local retro shop, so you can probably find better deals out there.
I got them on Amazon after seeing a video from a guy on YT who used them on his Gamecube. I put one in every system I get a chance to now lmao they also make a faster blinking one too.
I've been using the VGA Dreamcast cable from Kaico on an old 4:3 LCD monitor and it looks amazing! VGA is the the best native output from the Dreamcast, unless you're maybe thinking about dabbling with upscalers?
https://www.amazon.com/Kaico-Sega-Dreamcast-Cable-Simple/dp/B072QCSW6Q
I got one of these and it is perfect so easy to set up and use plugs straight it and looks great
This is the one I got and I didn't know that third party cables could be tight and finnicky (Not surprised tho) and my TV only has one SCART socket but in the AV connection option of the settings on the TV itself, there's both AV and S-VIDEO, also in regards to an HDMI cable, i've already got alot of them just lying around that i've gathered over the last few years (Idk how that happened tbh)
I agree with this. I finished both it & Blue Shift on Dreamcast, however I'd recommend the PS2 version over the Dreamcast version if you want to play it on a console & at home. Someone even ported Blue Shift to PS2 & it's really good: https://www.moddb.com/mods/half-life-blue-shift-playstation-2-mod If you have a PS2, FMCB, and a hard drive, this works very well on it.
All of that said, it's completely playable, but it's the worst way to play it.
For free homebrew here's a bunch of game jam games https://itch.io/jam/dream-on-celebrating-the-20th-anniversary-of-the-dreamcast/entries
There's also a free recreation of Minesweeper and a Minecraft clone called "Crafti" out there both free
Nothing fancy, about 50$ cad, i gotta say it’s pretty impressive compared to when I play on the CRT for shooting games. Hyperkin HD Cable for Dreamcast https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07HMBG1MQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
They were all a pain to use. The cd cases would always misalign as you'd put it in there.
Something like this is the way to go.
Ive had issues with majority of switchers that ive tried with the mclassic! I reccomend this one as it will provide audio and video quality. Hdmi Switcher: 4K HDR HDMI Switch, Koopman 5... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0837K31GX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share its not an 8 port but it will work:)
I'm having a tricky time finding 5mm LEDs sold with meaningful part numbers and detailed specifications on colour temperatures, I'm sorry to say! :(
As 4800K is pretty much sunlight "neutral white" seems to one term that's used. ASMT-UWB1-NX3E2 is "neutral white" at 4500K and ASMT-UWB1-NX3D2 is "cool white" at 5000K (the datasheet for both shows the various part numbers). Both are surface-mount parts but hopefully not too fiddly to attach some wires to! I'm afraid you may be better off diving into the datasheets at your favourite electronic component supplier, but really you should be looking for something with a drive current of up to 20mA.
would recommend a Brook Wingman SD then pair with the stick of your choosing.
I believe it's a knockoff but it seems to work fine
I assume you mean replacing that blue battery that is soldered on board? Its pretty easy. Just got some battery holder clips you can solder back onto the board after removing the old one. Also, make sure you get the correct battery. The board will try to recharge the battery so if you get one that can't take a charge it will eventually explode (at least start leaking battery acid)
Also you'll need a VGA coupler like this to connect the male VGA cable of your monitor with this male Dreamcast VGA cable:
You can install an EU Dreamcast powersupply into a .JP Dreamcast if you want to avoid an after market PSU. For a Step Down Convertor, this one seems a good price with universal plug sockets
https://www.amazon.com/BESTEK-International-Adapter-Converter-Including/dp/B076SDM2BQ
Yup I'm using the same adapter. I tested another SD card, specifically this one:https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-32GB-Canvas-Select-SDS2/dp/B07YGZHSDB/ref=sr_1_2?crid=11OAMQC0X26ZC&keywords=32gb+kingston+sd+card&qid=1658679476&sprefix=32gb+kingston+sd+card%2Caps%2C85&sr=8-2
Formatted it to fat32 with 32K cluster size, then I put the Dreamshell files in root of the SD card. (https://github.com/DC-SWAT/DreamShell/releases/tag/V4.0) *I made a goof in my first comment and implied you needed to put retrodream's files on the sd card, but they share DS' files.
I don't own any GD-ROMs so I'm not sure how you can back them up, but I was able to dump my bios onto the sd card. In Retrodream Hit start->Launch Dreamshell. Once you're at the desktop click on the Bios Flasher icon. Select the Read button, it'll show you the output path and hit confirm. It stored my bios in usb:\DS\firmware\bios
.
I've never dumped my bios before, that's cool!
Never heard of this until today... Woulda been nice burning DC games back in 2003 (I still play many of those discs, lol) but heres a US amazon link https://www.amazon.com/25-Pak-100-MIN-Inkjet-Printable-MediaRange/dp/B000VS3CPQ
While I’m unfamiliar with the game's requirements, if you have access to a soldering iron and some screwdrivers it's very straightforward to replace it, even for a novice. You can get kits like this if you’re in America, with good video tutorials like this available to show you how it's done. Take your time to watch and learn if it's your first time, but it's good practice and you have a better device in the long run
The one I ordered is an SDXC. Works fine as long as you format it to fat32 (Using GUIformat if on Win 10). I think if it's over 64 gigs which mine was, it's recommended to use the 64 kb cluster size when formatting.
This was the one I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GXXKY6P?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details
its called a "brook wingman SD" here's a link to them on amazon, its canadian amazon but i'm sure they're ez to find on US amazon.
I'd go with something like this instead.
https://www.amazon.com/ALITOVE-Adapter-Converter-100-240V-5-5x2-1mm/dp/B01GEA8PQA/
The one you listed is a bit under powered.
Svideo is clearer than composite but whatever hdmi converter you are using can still introduce lag and it’s unlikely changing to Svideo will eliminate that latency. Cheaper hdmi converter boxes can be “slow” in the conversion, that’s why many retro fans recommend things like the retrotink etc. they can be insanely expensive but they will offer minimal latency and best picture quality. That being said, I’m a poor bastard, so I bought The Hyperkin HDMI cable and using a GDEMU I patched the games to support vga. So like every game in the DC library except like 6 work with it.
If you want to get in on the Twitter game, too, there are recipes on IFTTT (If This, Then That) that will post to your Twitter when you make a new Instagram post. I use one that shares images as native photos on Twitter, because not all Twitter clients are able to parse out an image from the URL that Instagram normally posts to Twitter.
Luckily the power cable is a standard one shared between PS1 and 2 and many other electronics, you could buy this from any electronic store, maybe even thrift stores.

-Getting it working with your TV might be hard. The standard cables released for the system were Composite and VGA in North America. Most modern TVs don't use these inputs and so you might have to buy a HDMI cable for it. However there are many types and qualities.
-You might want to invest in a VMU (Visual Memory Unit) to save games and also a few games have extra little bonus games you can run on them.

As for getting it "up and running", plug into power and plug AV cable in to your TV and insert a game and hit power. Should be that easy.
The Kaico adapter is supposedly better than the Pound version. I just got one, but won't get to testing it until my GDEMU setup is complete.
holy hell, stuff has increased insanely in price since I bought my Dreamcast (~$50) in 2015 and a couple extras like the retrobit VGA/S-video box ($27.99 then, I see offbrand VGA boxes for ~90-100 bucks now...aye yai yai...) that is seemingly gone from the internet, (https://us.amazon.com/VGA-S-Video-Adapter-RETROBIT-Sega-Dreamcast/dp/B000SL4IIG) two new in box VMU's with those dust covers-green and blue for only $7 each. Wish I had gotten the games I wanted years ago when they were cheap. Wish I had nabbed up some new cheap controllers back then. The official 4x memory card is quite pricey, I see some el cheapo offbrand unreliable looking 16x memory cards cheap on ebay, no thanks LMAO.

I remember back then sealed copies of PSO and even ver2 were a dime a dozen and CHEAP like 10ish bucks for a sealed copy!!!
Unsure if mine's genuine but I bought mine from this link here with the implication it's genuine. Regardless it's been going strong since April of last year.

I use a pound hd link cable for Dreamcast. It just converts the 480p vga signal to HDMI, it'll give you a much much better picture compared to what you posted.
You know, with the Brook Wingman SD controller adapter you can swap the analog to right stick in game with a button combo on modern controllers? I was playing Half-Life, Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena with proper analog layout and it felt surreal. I have had mine for around 3 weeks and it is such an awesome adapter! Using my Xbox One S controller on Dreamcast is such a great feeling! You can get one here. Arrived to my house in less than 3 days.

Looks like the modder didn't disable the charge circuit. You're going to want to either ensure that you put a rechargable ML2032 in there, and NOT a CR2032! Sending charge current to a non-rechargable battery is a great way to explode the battery.
If you're comfortable with doing an extremely small amount of soldering yourself, you "disable" the charge circuit by cutting the long leg of the resistor on the left of the battery holder and attaching a BAT85 diode between the resistor and the board. The diode will stop almost all of the current from reaching the battery, making it safe to out a normal CR2032 in there. Make sure you install it in the right orientation though (black stripe at the bottom)
i bought 1 from ebay a year ago, mine is fine (i've had a couple crashes but resetting the console sorthed that)
i would advise buying a gdemu tray for the airflow and a noctua 5v fan (you will need a noctua fan mounting set aswell which is on ebay) because after removing the gdrom it's the loudest thing remaining, the noctua fan while not silent is much quieter than the original.
(note that this fan is bigger than the original and for me pressing the reset button is more stiff, i use the power button anyway to change game.)
don't buy the fan as part of a set with the 3d parts as they are overpriced, buy seperate
the fan model you want
Yup, it's an old CRT. The other reason I want it set up alongside my Win98 PC is that there should be room for a keyboard/mouse set up alongside other things, which you just can't really get on a traditional console set up.
Honestly I wouldn't even bother with this convoluted way except that in PAL regions Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Skies of Arcadia are among the games that don't work with VGA, and they're both games I'd like to own at some point.
So, just to confirm: You're saying that with this setup, I could flick the switch on the VGA box to TV mode and have games displayed through my VGA monitor, with no problems whatsoever (albeit 'only' in S-Video quality)?
Also, I saw that the VGA Box listed on ConsoleGoods had a 3.5mm audio out, but I had assumed that was only for the VGA mode seeing as VGA does not carry sound and that the TV mode had to be handled though RCA.
It needs a 99 min CD or you'll have to emulate. Not a bad choice mind you, since you can pump everything up to 1080P as long as your PC is modern.
ALSO here's a Translation guide
I happen to have a lightly scratched Virtua Tennis disc that only reads sometimes, and crashes to the homescreen other times, so I think the DC can be temperamental.
Now that I think of it, some official game discs that were available very early on have problems being read, and that's a manufacturing issue with the discs themselves because nobody had manufactured the GD-ROM spec before. I know that a lot of people have problems with Shenmue in particular, but I don't know which other games were affected. "Ready 2 Rumble Boxing" was a launch title, so it might be one of those.
I've been working on a python port of the windows program bootdreams to burn cdi images in linux. So far, I've burnt around 20 games with all of them working.
It essentially automates the process that classhero and nellonoma describe with python, using cdirip to extract the image data, but it'll use cdrecord in the terminal to burn the data. It'll even do discs with cdda audio tracks just fine (Toy Commander is the only one I came across that I can think of, but it worked perfectly).
It should work in OS X too so long as you have cdrecord and python 2. Get it here and let me know if it works / doesn't work. I'm working on a tool like cdirip for nero images right now so once I get that done, I'll be able to add .nrg image support (the current alpha is available in here). You dreamcast redditors can be my beta testers!
To use it:
Yes. Sorry. Took a while to find it.
So it’s the may flash Dreamcast controller adapter.
https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Dreamcast-Controller-Converter-Adapter/dp/B00K7YK0YA
The one above and yes it means you can use the arcade stick on the Xbox series x - tried MvC3. However, I don’t have flycast so couldn’t check that, and one of my buttons (heavy kick) wasn’t working but I think I need to check the wiring hasn’t come loose.
Videos of the install (like Voultar's) make it seem much easier than it is. My first attempt to solder the end of the flex cable to the Audio IC ended up bridging every single pin. The 3rd photo with the penny should give you a good idea of how small of a thing you need to be able to solder.

> Just getting a laser is hard to do
They're widely available online though I can't vouch for the quality. Just remember to remove the protective solder bridge/blob before installing!
Nope.
I've owned SEVERAL and there are none I know of that compare. It's always slight differences. Most I've seen deal with the feel of the D-Pad (not solid, not as responsive).
I usually use these for friends to use. They're still readily available on eBay.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on something I haven't experienced yet that's worth a damn.
I too have wondered forever how to get online without buying a BBA. My thoughts are just using a free dial up provider in CA, there is a site that has numbers for all over California.
Also, I wish that there was more information about THIS. It looks like a serial cable connected to a LAN adapter, does anyone know if this is possible?
Flip it to TV and hook it up with composite (or s-video if that supports it) video for now. If you’d like, you can always get this product from Amazon:
I do everything on Windows I'm afraid, nullDC is a fairly old emulator but it runs well on my 12-year-old clunker of a PC.
https://redream.io/ seems popular and claims support for macOS and Linux as well as Windows but I don't care for its GUI (I don't think you can just load a disc image in there, you need to faff around with its library system) but it won't run on my PC anyway.
here it is a GDI version of the game haven't tested it on gdemu yet tho

Yes, you can burn disks, but you will need to burn a boot disk first and then put in the burned disk after you loaded the boot disk. This won't work for all games, but does for many. It is called Utopia. Utopia
Hold the disc with the shiny side facing you and the label side facing a bright light. Look for pin holes where bright light is shining through. Ive had a few discs that had some scratches on the data layer side and they were completely hosed. Also look for blurred anomalies in the shiny side, sometimes there's evidence of heat damage or disc rot. Run your fingernail gently over any deep looking scratches, if it gets caught that is a deep scratch and could be affecting the lasers ability to read. I would not suggest messing with potentiometer if you dont know what you are doing or it may burn out your laser or stop reading all discs.
Last resort could burn a copy of this thing to see if you can get past the boot screen:

I havent seen anyone use this in years so I dont know if its viable anymore. You will need CDI driver files dropped into your imgburn install directory for this to work. Worst case a mild resurfacing from a reputable source might clear up whatevers on the bottom layer causing the disc to not read. Not sure how picky you are but its an option. I had my no boot power stone 2 redone at a local shop and it looked swirly and like crap but worked. I later bought an ELM professional grade disc resurfacer and do it myself now. I'm in NJ though so not sure if I can help.
