> Speaking with Billboard magazine after Prince's death, Nicks said that she is "brokenhearted" that the pair never got to perform the song together while he was alive. "Had I ever in a million years thought that we would lose him, I would have made sure that that would have happened," she said. "And it didn't. So that's just one of those things in your life where you so say, 'I really missed out.' Because he should have. That should have happened. So whenever I play 'Stand Back' from this day forward, Prince will be standing next to me," Nicks added. That is always going to be a joy."
There’s definitely a few books out there. The one I’m currently reading is fantastic! It’s called Prince: The Man and His Music. Although I disagree with his personal opinions at times, he does a pretty good job of sticking to the information. His opinions are brief and focuses more on the meat of the matter. I’ve actually discovered many songs I have not heard of before because of his book. It was worth it alone for that! I’m almost 20 chapters in and it’s very detailed and I’m not even halfway through. Great news is that the new updated version is only $9 new on amazon. This would be my recommendation.
I havent read this one, but “Prince and the Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions: 1983 and 1984” is supposedly the absolute best one you can buy if your only interested in those years in great great detail. This is next on my list.
Then there is the end all be all (as I’ve heard it called because I’ve never read it!) “Dance, Music, Sex, Romance: The First Decade” by Per Nilsen. This is apparently the absolute best book you can buy but it’s so ridiculously expensive I’m not gonna even link it. If you can find it tho, make me a PDF! Haha
I think it was physicals only tbh. I got it from amazon, it actually was a lot cheaper than I expected! I would say it would still be worth it to purchase. The packaging is gorgeous and the booklet comes with some nice information in it. Plus you get the DVD

I grew up in Minneapolis and prince helped define my music taste and inspired my DJ career. He was an amazing talent that will be missed. Here is a tribute mix I just finished. https://www.mixcloud.com/Hey_Mister_DJ/prince-tribute-mega-mix/
Feel free to share and hope you enjoy!
If you're interested, take a look at two of my lists: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Jakor/top_150_prince_songs/

That could help you in your discovery I think. But obviously, you might like something more than me and vice-versa, as the fans can have very different taste.
I hear ya. I discovered an enormous trove of soundboard live recordings, soundchecks, Paisley Park tour rehearsals and unreleased studio tracks (including the Work It sets), and it's a full-time job trying to listen to all of it. Heck, it's a ton of work just trying to catalog it.
One of my personal "things" with my music collection is that I like (by which I mean "need") to have my music chronologically organized, and my live bootlegs have to be as chronological as possible, so I have to split bootlegs like Starlight Lounge up into separate folders for each show. Everything also has to be consistently named (<artist> - <album> -<track#>- <song title>) and tagged, so it takes a while. I've actually been sitting on the Work It, Sound & Vision, Anthology and a couple other box set collections because I can't decide how to properly tag and file them in the rest of my collection.
I mentioned this a bit ago in another thread, but I'll repeat it here: I have several dozen soundboard bootlegs which are all obsessively tagged and catalogued, plus the aforementioned box sets, which I would love to share but would like a better method for than sending out Dropbox links to everyone who wants in. Here's a partial list to give everyone an idea of what I have. It's nearly all lossless audio and soundboard recordings. I'd also love to receive any high-quality boots I don't have. Does anyone have any solid suggestions?
Found it! Singing begins at 3:45

Legend has it that this was at 5th avenue, and that THIS performance, as well as Baby I'm a star and I would die 4 u were all performed that same night, and that the audio from those performances were remastered and used on the actual album.
I meant they can both be purchased from Tidal's store for $9.99 each, even if you don't have a Tidal subscription. After purchase, they're yours, and you can download them to your iTunes or whatever. The top comment in this thread wants these to be "released", so I was saying they are released and can both be purchased digitally.

I could swear I read a Prince book that had all that stuff.
FOUnd it!
"PRINCE: In the Studio, 1975-1995" -- Kindle is $2.95
Prince in the Studio (1975-1995): Volume One https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01ENU0QX8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_BXP42D654QKDA97QSDAX
It's been a while since I read this but it did focus much more than others, one the technical aspects of Prince's creations.
Not sure about the first three albums specifically though, also the book has not been proof read properly which grated the pedant in me. Despite saying it's up to 1995 I recall it cuts off rather sharply at 1991 perhaps, almost like someone was writing it with the best of intentions but had to put it out rather suddenly.
So yes, a bit rough but had lots of detail I hadn't seen in other books and might give you a good start. Hope it helps.
Probably in the vault. There is also a bootleg record available on Amazon that sound pretty good.
Do you know how to torrent? If not, it's easy to learn. the guide is kinda backwards, though. You should install UTorrent BEFORE downloading the magnet link.

I don't think it should be a matter of what songs you should listen to, it should be a matter of which albums..... but I'm thinking, starting off with the hits is your best bet. Then figure which songs you connect with most then find the albums and listen to them as a whole. Start off here: 4Ever https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V4GQD8K/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_EDG8MQJGPGHJNNV3DQP5
There are also at least 3 comic books with Prince as the main character.

It’s the single CD - Amazon link
stylistically, price jumped around a lot, so we could give you the chronological release order, but the very next album won't sound like the previous in many cases. for that reason, you can start from the beginning and move up or jump around. if you liked purple rain, there is an album of b-sides that were recorded at the same time and released on the 12" singles back in the 80s. they have the same vibe as purple rain, as well an an expanded edition of purple rain just released which has even more songs that have the same feeling as the purple rain album.
Well they do have the remastered soundtrack that comes with the deluxe album cover and poster but does not include the new content nor any of the content on the third CD.
$32.98 pre-order (plus shipping charge)???
Amazon has it for $24.89. They ship pre-orders early so you (usually) have it in your mailbox the day it's released too!

That is from Syracuse NY - March 30, 1985. The entire show was released on VHS way back when, but has not made it to any official digital format.
It may be available online somewhere, but if you still have a working VCR :
