SHEESH it sounds so much better on Tidal. I don't have a subscription but it lets me listen full http://tidal.com/#!/us/jayelectronica ain't no preview biihh
Edit: looks like it was a glitch for half a day, no more free preview bih
As good as it is (pretty good IMO), I can't help but feel that this is exactly what I'd expect from a new Beyonce song... nothing really mindblowing here.
Basically, Tidal allows you to stream music with a much higher bit rate. The highest quality mp3 is about 320 kbit/s, whereas a lossless audio file has a bit rate more than four times that (1,411 kbit/s). This means your going to get a lot more quality from the top and bottom end of a song.
However, being able to tell the difference is going to rely heavily on the quality of your headphones or speakers. You can try their website demo. It plays a song at a lower bitrate and then switches it to lossless. If you can't tell the difference or can only barely tell the difference, then you probably don't want to spend $20 a month for the service.
Every big artist/musician is doing this, especially on Twitter (Kanye, Beyonce, etc.). The official hashtag is "#TIDALforALL", for "Tidal" - a music streaming service by Jay-Z that's intention is super-high quality audio.
Currently these are the only Deadmau5 songs available in HQ lossless audio.
You buy it here http://tidal.com/us/store/album/57273408
Edit: and now it's broken and is available here for $20 what is happening http://kanyewest.tidal.com
(but yeah, it's at least an option to take your money?)
> Plus, the audio will not be much better, even the premium audio, as long as it's still compressed.
Surely you mean encoded in a lossy format rather than compressed. It appears that the service will support lossless streaming which is pretty interesting.
I agree though, it's pretty concerning that they don't want to disclose information regarding payouts.
TIDAL is a streaming service owned by Jay-Z that recently launched after a tease from various artists on twitter, notably Kanye West.
It features a mere $20/month for patrician lossless audio quality, and $10 for pedestrian 320 kb/s filth. It also allegedly pays out more to artists in royalties
Someone found the placeholder for when its eventually released
http://tidal.com/us/store/album/57273408
Edit never mind.
Shit I thought it would be $12. That's expensive.
Edit again: shit it was actually right
You could do a free trial of Tidal and hear for yourself, wouldn't you be the best judge?
Objectively speaking though, wireless headphones can't fully reproduce lossless audio. Wikipedia says that even
>aptX-HD (also known as aptX Lossless) has bit-rate of 576 kbit/s. It supports high-definition audio up to 48 kHz sampling rates and sample resolutions up to 24 bits. Unlike the name suggest the codec is still considered lossy
For context, the song I'm listening to right now, a 16 bit 44.1khz standard FLAC file is playing at 916 kbps, so even bestcase scenario wireless codec would still have to do some compression.
HOLY SHIT! That probably means it's available on a certain other streaming service. BRB...
Edit: Yup! It's on Tidal. So here's a link to buy the FLAC
more stream information here http://tidal.com/us/mcd
BTW I'll be able to sign up for a free trial, but won't be able to record the stream as ill be busy that day. if anyone can for sure record this for us then u can use my account. just hmu with a PM
It's actually not.
Comparing price points is highly misleading... Tidal's direct competing product to Spotify Premium is 9.99/month.
Yeah, they offer another service at a higher price point but Spotify doesn't have a competing product for it. I'm not saying the Tidal "Hifi" service is worth the extra money, but it's like saying that Mercedes is 3x the price of the Honda. It's a dumb argument.
If anything I think he over did it on the instrumental...really not a fan of the additional "I Get Lifted" sample they added. Totally changed the vibe of the song....at least they cut the full sample that we heard at the MSG show.

"VERY VERY NEW VERY VERY RARE"
Tidal Show (47:10);
I'm not sure the other comments here are accurate; the "uncompressed" versions have an uncompressed dynamic range, not quality (Spotify only goes up to 320 kbps as far as I'm aware), and the TSFH website store only includes merchandise, not the albums. CD Baby used to offer lossless downloads, but I think the only options left now are 1) Purchasing the CDs (which are available on CD Baby and Amazon) or 2) Purchasing the albums in FLAC format on the Tidal Store.

It’s a streaming company majority owner Jay-Z other artist have some ownership which benefits them when streamed. They’re supposed to be the streaming company that best helps artist. Especially new artist. Pays out more http://tidal.com/us
One spectral sample (track 01) for Lodo - an album that is sold for $20 - https://i.imgur.com/FR2QMJ6.jpg. Notice how there's a shelf (big block-like cut-off) at 16kHz and, while data still extends to 22kHz (range that is normal for 16bit flacs). This is a lossy master.
As an alternative to the subscription service, tidal actually has a little advertised "store" option. You can purchase the Flac files here http://tidal.com/us/store/album/91733824 and download them.
I meant they can both be purchased from Tidal's store for $9.99 each, even if you don't have a Tidal subscription. After purchase, they're yours, and you can download them to your iTunes or whatever. The top comment in this thread wants these to be "released", so I was saying they are released and can both be purchased digitally.
Links to the Tidal Store:
Also "Interview" instead of "Runway." Oh, the prankage....
By the way, if anybody does want to pay for FW, Tidal will let you. Same deal as Int16: $10 for MP3s, $18 for FLACs.
FOR THE HUNGRY

You can still watch the Tidal show which has most of the album songs mixed to a reasonable quality.
I know it's not much but it's all I got.
That's why TIDAL is the future of the music industry. It functions like a streaming service, but it also gives you options to buy music on the service. It streams in hifi (lossless sound quality), it gives you access to artists entire catalogs, music videos, exclusive content, discounted ticket sales, and it compensates artists fairly. It's also artists owned.
let me help you our right quick

TIDAL is definitely one of the better options for listening to TSFH; most of their work is available there (minus Battlecry). If you're in Europe, I hear Deezer is also an excellent option (I live in the US so I can't vouch for it); according to my European friend, the TSFH selection there is fairly complete.
How can I listen to TIDAL Masters (master-quality recordings)?
When you are in the TIDAL desktop application, click on the home button to the left-hand side and scroll down to "Master Quality Audio Albums".
To get the best quality, make sure to select "HiFi/Master" quality in “Settings" and then select “Streaming".
If you don’t have the TIDAL desktop application, you can find it here.
You can also use your compatible Android or Apple device.
Update on this, in case someone finds this thread on Google, or if OP is still looking. You can actually buy the album to download in flac for $18 from Tidal.
As others have said, FLAC is lossless and kind of a status symbol for audiophiles in its own right. I just wanted to point out that we have a streaming service, TIDAL, that is marketed in exactly the obnoxious way others have described, if you want to get a sense of what FLACturbating is. http://tidal.com/us/video/lossless-explained
All about taste I guess...totally changed the vibe of the song for me - a lot darker in the original. At least they cut the full sample that we heard during the MSG show. Original;

Tidal show version (47:10);
The problem is when you checkout through http://tidal.com/us/store/album/57273408 It seems to be exclusive through Kayne's store front right now. I couldn't get it through that link. I only was sucessful through https://kanyewest.tidal.com
That's not coming until next week.
You can stream it here (free trial works):
http://listen.tidal.com/album/57273408
Or purchase here:
Edit: Removed. Apparently it's a scam.
Edit 2: http://tidal.com/us/store/album/57273408
Skip Spotify and Apple Music.
Subscribe to TIDAL. Higher quality, lossless sound, access to artists' entire catalogs, music videos, exclusive content, discounted concert tickets, and fair compensation for artists. It's artists owned too.
I will provide them will all the free marketing in the WORLD because I really do believe that the company itself can pave the way for a new an improved music industry instead of allowing the value of music and musicians to be overlooked and treated like toilet paper. The industry needs a new model - TIDAL's got the idea.
For lossless music streaming, look into Tidal: http://tidal.com/us
To purchase individual high-resolution music files, I'd recommend HDtracks: http://www.hdtracks.com/
Glad to hear of your choice! The Sierra 2 is an amazing speaker. Keep us updated on your purchases and impressions (with pics of course)
No it's a new music streaming service started by a bunch of famous artists. It just launched and only has about 500k subscribers but a lot of artists are saying they are gonna pull their music from spotify for it and with tidal it's 10/20 dollars a month depending on your plan. Total BS. http://tidal.com/us
Link for the lazy. I think this is some shit TBH. I'm already pretty heavily invested into google play music all access, and it's going to take a lot more than uncompressed music to get me to switch.
EDIT: It also costs $20 a month. Not even movie streaming subscriptions cost this much
Go to their website and click on "Menu" > "Download."
Ninja edit: Never mind. The option seems to be gone. Sorry! I've been using Tidal for the last few months, but now the desktop player is gone.
