Protip: Use 10 Minute Mail to create an account and not have to tie it to your actual email so you can get the DLC.
http://10minutemail.com/10MinuteMail/index.html
I almost thought that Harmonix got hacked at first and that someone was spamming their account... interesting choice for a partnership.
PSN Seems to be down for Server Maintenance for redeeming codes, but Xbox should be good to go right now I think.
Update: just use the method mentioned here by /u/Mafklappert https://www.reddit.com/r/Rockband/comments/3sevsn/free_song_from_the_barbazons_in_rock_band_4_for/cwwkmvz (but you still may not want to use your real email address)
I'll try to get a live audio stream out via mixlr. It'll be off of my phone so no guarantee that the quality will be good. I'll probably start the stream a minute or two in to the panel since the free plan for mixlr only does an hour at a time.
If I can't get the stream to work right I'll record the audio locally on my phone.
Here's how to get started on the cheap: 1. Scour Facebook Marketplace & Craigslist for WIRELESS Xbox instruments (full sets are often $50-$75) 2. Buy Rock Band 4 on eBay (~$10) 3. If your wireless instruments were originally for the 360, buy the adapter ($15 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01541ACLQ/)
You can also get a 5-pack of RHCP songs with specific RB3 bundles. Good luck with that, though. Your chances of finding one of those brand new at a reasonable price are essentially nonexistent.
$300 USD for a used ION kit? I'd just get an Alesis Nitro Kit instead.
You'll want the MPA if you do go that route as well as a small MIDI to MIDI cable.
Are you sure you have everything in your Amazon cart? Have you got one of these?: https://www.amazon.com/PDP-Rock-Band-Wired-Legacy-Adapter/dp/B01MDJWJH9/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1531740011&sr=8-5&keywords=pdp+adapter
Was $10 on clearance last year, but you can pick one up on eBay right now for $450USD! I bought mine at the start of the year for $150, yes very expensive but if you're going the ekit path you should be expecting to play a lot seeing as you spent lots on the kit and probably more from the song library.
I would recommend the Alesis Nitro or Surge Mesh, if only for the fact it's lots quieter than non-mesh heads.
You can get a second guitar from Amazon. It's red and looks pretty sweet (in my opinion). It's $70. https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Fender-Jaguar-Guitar-Controller/dp/B01I71VESU
No way to get a standalone drum kit, though
Guitars were actually just restocked on Amazon, you're in luck! https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B017KIHHIM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ODchCb0D8XCPC
Drums will be more difficult but if you're interested, you can purchase an eKit (around $200-300 on the low end) and midi pro adapter ($40 on amazon). Good luck!
For Rock Band Network songs, 30% goes to creators, which I believe would include charting authors and rights holders of the songs. I think around 30% is the typical percentage taken by digital store owners (Microsoft, Sony, etc.). (Source, for an XBL Indie game) That'd leave about 40% to Harmonix, for creating and maintaining the framework, among other tasks. Maybe if someone who's actually worked with RBN stops by, they could comment.
For Harmonix-authored songs, I don't know how they'd split up their cut. I would imagine bigger name artists like The Beatles would receive a bigger portion than others.
It's pretty likely that they'll add it I think as it was part of the survey they sent out the other day in the previous features you'd like section.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RB4PostPlaySurvey
There's a cool charging stand coming from PDP in October, for anyone getting one of the new Jaguars. It comes with a battery pack that snaps into the back of your guitar (it replaces the entire battery door), with contacts on the back so it'll charge in the stand.
Amazon link (Includes AbleGamers affiliate tag)
and for those interested, pay attention to the amazon warehouse deals for this. this is their most popular e-kit, so a lot of them show up as used, with various issues, but mostly cosmetic ones.
the kit I ordered was $240 and listed as 'good' condition. they claimed the kit would have multiple minor blemishes, but outside of the box having a few dents, the kit appeared to be in pristine condition. (but ymmv)
it may seem like a good jump from the roughly $140 you'd pay for the stock kit with cymbals, but you end up getting a fully customizable kit you can setup in whatever way you want, and you have something that is actually build to be beat on.
also remember you'll need to buy the madcatz midi pro adapter (~$25) to get this working, and xbox users need to get the upcoming pdp adapter to get it to work with rb4. ($30) since I saved $60 on the set like I mentioned above, this sort of made the adapters free.
EDIT: amazon has a musical instrument promotion right now. MISAVE10 gets you 10% off this kit. not sure how long it'll last.
We've got a chart on rockband.com/support here: https://harmonix.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/217769748-What-legacy-music-game-controllers-will-be-compatible-with-Rock-Band-4-
that has a line saying, "For all wireless legacy Xbox controllers, you will need to purchase the Legacy Game Controller Adapter."
Throw that name into Amazon and voila: https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Legacy-Game-Controller-Adapter/dp/B01541ACLQ/
New white Mad Catz guitars are available on Amazon right now. Also available in black for both PS4 and Xbox.
Then you can play right now, and you'll only need to find a drum kit (which are admittedly very difficult to find). If you really really really need drums, you can buy a PS3 MIDI pro adapter, and an E-kit, for a much better drumming experience. Alessis Nitro is the go-to inexpensive kit, easily found for $300 new. (If you really really need the drums, you should probably go that route anyway.)
> I heard somewhere that you can use PS3 guitars. Is that true?
Yes, as long as you have the dongle that goes with it.
There are also the Mad Catz RB4 guitars, still available in black for $50 on Amazon.
I would go for the RB4 mic or a Wii U mic (it’s terrific, cheap, and compatible.)
Also, I would recommend getting a magnetic usb data cable to protect your wireless adapter investment. The port is pretty fragile to any forces from a cable and will break - a mag cable prevents that completely.
https://www.amazon.com/S-Magnetic-Compatible-I-Product-Smartphones/dp/B07QZHS3Q9
Nope, that dongle is for PS3/4. For Xbox One you'll need the significantly more expensive wireless legacy adapter. You might be able to find one for cheaper on eBay than that Amazon listing, but expect to pay around that price.
Here are high quality pics of two of the sketches:
Just a thought. If you can use a PC, you should install Bluestacks and see if you can run the app on that. If you can't then it would have to be a bug related to a specific account setting.
Buy the Rivals Guitar Bundle, either from Amazon or Gamestop. That gives you a guitar, the base game, and the Rivals expansion, plus some bonus pre-order songs. It also comes with a voucher (while supplies last) for a free mic. If you miss the voucher (or just can't wait), pretty much any USB mic will work.
If you have Prime, go the Amazon route to get it for like $72 bucks, plus 2 extra preorder songs.
https://www.amazon.com/Rivals-Wireless-Fender-Jaguar-PlayStation-4/dp/B01IANW0HY/?th=1
If you want a gray guitar, go the Gamestop route and it'll be probably close to $100.
http://www.gamestop.com/ps4/games/rock-band-rivals-wireless-charcoal-fender-jaguar-bundle-only-at-gamestop/132929
As for your songs questions: You can buy old DLC online or in the in-game store. If you bought the exports back in the day (under the same account name, on the same console family, and currently if you're not in Europe because SIEE is kinda being dicks), you can import those into RB4. If you did not buy the exports back in the day, there is literally no way to get them anymore because the licenses to sell them have expired and thus you can't get them in RB4 (except Rock Band 3 and a few handfuls of songs that were re-released as normal DLC, such as some songs in Blitz and in the Mega Pack released recently). Any old DLC you had can be downloaded (except a few stragglers that are being difficult and RBN tracks). Currently there is no way to do customs (that I know of, but it's not my scene, so maybe there is). For all other "old game" questions, please see the Export Megathread or the kickass export Wiki BravoGangUS put together (both available in the sidebar)
You need to buy a physical disc, which comes with a code. You can insert the disc in the respective console to play the AC/DC songs and nothing else. However, you can also redeem the code to export the songs to any other RB titles.
https://www.amazon.com/AC-DC-Live-Rock-Track-Playstation/dp/B001KAMZ8E More specifically, this is what you need. Appearently, Amazon is only selling used copies so the codes might already be used.
You can easily get the game, a mic, and a guitar for around 120 bucks or so. Amazon has mics and guitars and you can buy the game digitally.
Hardest thing to find is drums. Easiest thing is probably to by a wireless legacy adaptor (https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Legacy-Game-Controller-Adapter/dp/B01541ACLQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1529284651&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=wireless+adaptor+rock+band&dpPl=1&dpID=31y6OvK5OtL&ref=plSrch) and find someone selling a second hand kit on eBay or craigslist.
There's a thread on the HMX forums that covers some extensive testing by various people for different usb mics and adapters. This is pretty much the most information you're going to find online as far as true compatibility goes.
In summary, xbox compatibility absolutely pales in comparison to PS4. But, there is one standout that I can actually confirm as of today -- Bandfuse adapters. Find them on ebay, they normally run around $10-$20 for just the adapter. They look like a large orange usb plug, with a breakaway connection 4" down that a 1/8"-to-1/4" mono cable plugs into. This connection only accepts a 1/8" mono cable, stereo TRS tips do not work -- you can pick up an XLR-to-1/8" mono cable for your microphone for around $8 on amazon. Volume level is actually exactly where it needs to be for my SM58, so I would imagine any similar dynamic mic would work as well, such as the ATR2100.
Something else to consider... if you can't manage to snag a bandfuse adapter, you can still use your xbox controller as a mic input. Use the same XLR-to-1/8" cable, and feed it into the mic plug on a 4-pole adapter (anything like this one), and plug that into your headset port. It does result in some crackling if you actually listen to it (a result of the obnoxious auto-leveling system xbox has), but for vox purposes, it works just fine.
Yup, hardware availability is an issue. That said, there are standalone guitars and usb mics available on Amazon and folks can download the Rivals bundle digitally. Drums are a bit harder to find but lots of people have found good deals on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or local thrift shops. Don't forget that a ton of legacy Rock Band hardware works with Rock Band Rivals (see rockband.com/compatibility).
It's not ideal, but it's still possible for new players to get in to Rock Band.
Love you right now man.
Been requesting Beartooth, ADTR, and BMTH a ton on rockband.com/request
This whole comments section rocks, big into the hardcore/pop punk scene. Actually had a radio show in college based on warped tour if anyone is interested (our most popular show was an all ADTR show): https://www.mixcloud.com/WentworthRadio/playlists/warped-wit/
My personal list of music that needs to be in RB: Senses Fail Underoath Neck Deep - love that new album ADTR - just bring back all the RBN stuff Modern Baseball Atreyu Beartooth Bring Me The Horizon Chunk No Captain Chunk Sum 41 Simple Plan
EDIT: Can't believe so many people want Beartooth! They rock live too
FB Marketplace has tons and tons of affordable gear.

Here's a Beatles Band set for XBox One for $100
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/nyc/search?query=rock%20band
I used this one
It works great. The little tip just stays in and the magnetic end disconnects if it gets moved too much. Just line it back up and your good to go again. Obviously its best if you don't move the adapter at all but this cuts out the issue.
I would just get a new copy since it will have an unused code. Right now it's $5 on Amazon
This is correct. I bought these two from Amazon US:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00409SOD2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MDJWJH9/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The MIDI adapter came all sticky like it was covered in glue (despite being packaged as new), which seems common in the reviews which is a bit annoying, but since it came from the US( I'm in the UK) I couldn't be bothered returning it; works perfectly!
This is the link to Amazon's page for the Rivals Full Band Kit - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IANW0OM/ which is the page you were probably looking at in the first place.
The problem is that Amazon itself isn't selling the bundle. The $337 listing showing for the PS4 is from a 3rd party seller whose orders are fulfilled by Amazon. This basically means that Amazon stores, ships, and handles customer service for the item but the item isn't owned or sold by Amazon directly. This also means that the pricing of the item isn't set by Amazon, it's determined by the 3rd party seller, which is why it's higher than MSRP (because of the rarity of full band bundles, as mentioned by BaddDadd2010).
pretty much you have to go to used stores around you or look for used online (ebay/craigslist/facebook marketplace) or just buy the game microphone and guitar online then hope you find drums eventually. amazon
Pretty much. I see it's up to $40 on Amazon. It was $30 for a long time.
My son tried using a double-bass pedal from his regular drums on the Alesis Nitro kick pad, but the pad was too small. His double bass pedal clamped directly below one of the beaters, and the other one didn't hit. I don't know if all double bass pedals are like that, or if some have the clamp centered between the beaters, or if that would work anyway. Where the clamp is located and how far apart the beaters are would be two things you'd need to look into before buying a double pedal. If you have a music store near you, you could take your pad with you to see if any double bass pedals they have available would work.
Since we already had an unused single pedal, we bought a second kick pad, the Yamaha KP65 Electronic Drum Kick Tower. There are others on Amazon as well. It's plugged into the aux Tom input. That's a different option you might not have considered. That was cheaper than the double bass pedals I saw, but if you don't already have a spare single pedal, you'd have to take that cost into account.
> XB1... we have the adapter for the ion.
The PDP Wired Adapter? Yeah, then you're set, that's the hugely expensive adapter you need. To use the E-kit, you would need that and also need the X360 MIDI Pro Adapter, but that's only another $40.
To use X360 guitars, whether RB or GH, you need a Mad Catz Wireless Adapter, which are also pretty expensive. You might be able to find it cheaper on Ebay, not sure.
For microphones, the Wii U microphone is also a good choice. That's what we use. One convenience is that they have an On/Off switch.
Here is the recent article everyone is talking about. Take it with a handful of salt though; if you interview a bunch of people who got fired of course they won't have the best things to say, that would be true for any company.
For the other side of the story, here is a response from someone who actually works there.
I suggest trying Editor on fire. It's a program designed to help make charting fairly easy. There are extensive tutorials on how to get your songs on rockband on rockband.scorehero.com, so I suggest looking through the forums. If you ever need any help, you can also ask me, I've charted a number of songs.
On Xbox.
After playing a few songs, the drums stop making noise. I.E. drumming before the song, or in Big Finishes/Overdrive Fills, no drums sounds happen. The notes look like they were hit, but no corresponding sound.
It has been suggested that not slamming on the pads during the song loading screen can help this, but that hasn't been the case for me. However maybe 90% of the time, if I restart the song it will fix itself. But it will still be a problem for the next song. So what I end up having to do is: Start the song, then immediately restart it at the beginning so the drum sounds work. You can see an example of this at https://www.twitch.tv/killerkylesback/v/55234712 @ 52:45 and again 01:09:35
Also half the time when I start the game it hangs on the loading screen. I press the start button to log in, and log in as my profile, then it says loading... and hangs there. Maybe it would go eventually but after about 5 mins I usually just back out and restart the game.
> Bing works alright and a free $10 worth of RB songs every once in a while sounds good to me!
You have a maximum amount of credits you can earn per day but I click the news links each morning while I have my coffee. This gives me an overview of what's going on in the world and takes less than 5 min to max out my daily credits.
Note, there are sites that automate bing searches on a schedule, but I've seen a bunch of people get banned on /r/beermoney for me to want to try it. If you want a referal link, I posted one up in the comments.
Cheers!
I expect this will all depend how much fun the VR game mode is. I already have the hardware for development, so I plan to pick up the game, though reading the description of scoring mechanics made my head spin a little bit (it's probably easier to understand by playing than explaining).
I'm sure Harmonix has done some internal calculus to gamble on a $3/song price point. It's what Rocksmith charges (but you can also buy those songs for $2 each if you are willing to wait for a Steam sale). I mean, you have to spend $1,000 at a minimum to get into PC VR, so they know Oculus owners can probably afford it if they are already interested in DLC.
At the same time, Oculus owners are getting spoiled with high quality "free content" (e.g. Robo Recall), and there is plenty of bellyaching on the Oculus subreddit about the price point of content, so it will remain to be seen how much DLC they sell at all, even if it was $2 a song. The barrier is owners buying DLC at all, not the price, I think.
I expect there will be sales on DLC in the future, but Harmonix had to start at the maximum they could ever hope to charge. Imagine the roar we would get here if they raised the price on console DLC for this generation of consoles.
It's funny you should mention those songs as C3 recently released all of Metropolis Part 2 and an Octavarium chart. If you want to play them, assuming you have a half decent PC, download Phase Shift (It's totally free) and install it. If you plug in your USB dongle for your Guitar, it should work right away. After that, go here and search for Dream Theater at the top. Make sure to download the Phase Shift versions (Clicking the box in the PSh column) and extract the rar files to the Phase Shift Music folder which should be in the Program Files folder for the game. You can even download a Rock Band 3 theme to make it look like Rock Band. The songs are charted really well, so it's almost as good as a proper DT Track Pack. C3 also put out all of Images and Words too, so if you're a DT fan, make sure to check those out too.
If you need any help, just ask.
Telling people to wait, when your game is one that has been identified as having issue on the official PlayStation site, is not "whipping people into a frenzy". It's good advice for us to wait until we know what the issues are.
Just so you know, you can get $40 off the Alesis Nitro from Rakuten using promo code BF20. I have not used this site, but apparently, they leaked Credit Card info before, so if you check out you might want to consider using PayPal.
Also, B&H doesn't have a discount, but they include a drum throne. (Pretty sure they always have this and this is not a black Friday deal).
Not sure where you live, but for me, both of these places have free shipping and no tax.
Turtle Beach 420x (my choice) 180 ms of Audio Delay though
Plugging in a controller was an option I tried, and a bunch of adapters (including a TOS to 3.5mm stereo DAC) to make the Turtle Beach PX12 work with my set up (90 ms audio delay)
The latter had too many cables around and as a cat owner it was not compatible with such set up
Someone recommended a set of PDP headphones that apparently work ok, but I am a bass player and apparently they have low performance in the bass frequencies
There's also the HyperX line of headsets from Kingston, which are usually praised on the Internet, but I have never used those
Edit: This Plantronics Headset are on sale at Fry's

For 360. For Rb4 you need a roll limitless and a rb2 wireless kit, and the wireless adapter.
I have Rb4, but play rb3 primarily for custom songs.
They usually have the term "host" somewhere in their name or description as they act as USB Host Controllers (as opposed to a USB Device, which needs to be connected to a Host Controller such as a computer).
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MZY59B7/ is one example that also links to many other similar converters.
I have an AT2020+ that works fine on PS4, but PS3 took some extra steps. I believe what finally ended up working was getting one of these (https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Adapter-Windows-AU-MMSA/dp/B00IRVQ0F8/), plugging that into the PS3, then plugging the monitor/headphone jack of the microphone into that adapter.
It's kinda silly, but basically you need to get the mic into a format the PS3 can read for it to work.
We have the RB4 mic, but prefer WiiU mics. We originally got one based on a recommendation here, and liked it enough to get a second just in case our first went out and we couldn't replace it.
Unfortunately, you need the Wii MPA or the wireless dongle to use it on Wii.
Fortunately though, the MPA is still pretty cheap for Wii. I think it comes in at anywhere from 40-80 dollars Canadian on Amazon.

You can use the light box without the fog unit. Get a PS2 to USB adapter (link below) and then use a USB cable into a 1amp USB plug to power it. You'll lose the strobe & fog, but you don't have to have the huge fogger laying around.
PS2 to USB : https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Mouse-Type-Female-MDIN6/dp/B0016LJJMW
Obligatory I'm in the USA, and the old port in mine just fell out, so I didn't have to deal with it, but I just finished fixing one and all I have to say is these things are cursed lol. If you can find the right microusb port to fix it, it's a simple put it on and solder it. However, the port on amazon changed and I was unable to find the right one anywhere. I don't know if it was just me, but I found it practically impossible to force the ports I was able to get in. I tried bending and filing the legs, but the best I got was one leg kinda in.
I eventually got one of these (https://www.amazon.com/Adafruit-Micro-B-Breakout-Board-ADA1833/dp/B00KLDPZVU) and some tiny 30 AWG wire, and manually soldered wires from the adapter to the microusb board. One of the wires is a microusb only wire, and that one doesn't need to be connected, so you're looking at soldering 4 wires with this method. Since the wire was so tiny, this setup was super fragile after putting it on, so I also put a layer of hot glue over each side of the wires so they stay down.
This method is super jank, but it works. You will need a certain amount of soldering skill to solder the tiny wire correctly. Having the correct microusb port in the first place would make everything a lot easier, but unless someone here knows where to find one you might be out of luck there.
Congrats on the haul! I thought I had one of the best deals (found a full set for $100 a few weeks ago), but you got me beat ha!
Get yourself something like this for the Legacy Adapter, should help protect it in the long run.
https://www.amazon.com/NetDot-Upgraded-Charging-Indicator-Compatible/dp/B06XVRBTXK
I can answer that first question for you. Amazon has a bundle that comes with the new blue Jaguar guitar, Rock Band 4 with a Rivals DLC code included, a mail-in coupon for a free microphone (while supplies last) and the 12 pre-order bonus songs. It's $89.99 or $71.99 if you have Amazon Prime. There's also the $199 band-in-a-box bundle ($159.99 with Prime) with all the new instruments from PDP plus Rock Band 4 with the Rivals DLC code and all 12 pre-order bonus songs.
https://smile.amazon.com/Panasonic-Eneloop-generation-Pre-Charged-Rechargeable/dp/B00KQ2L9NY
I've never worried about the voltage. I put them in and see if they work. For me, they work, as do the Amazon Basics, and some energizers that are probably the same chemistry.
If you're using them as a replacement for the ION cymbals, you'll want to get the Pintech single zone cymbals. You can find them on Amazon. This is the one I use on my kit to replace the Hi-Hat: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002F78NU/ref=sxr_rr_xsim1
Hope this helps.
If you want to go super (ghetto) cheap for instruments, start searching thrift stores. Any wireless Rock Band or Guitar Hero guitar/drums will work with this adapter, and all USB microphones work. Guitars and mics are fairly common, but drums sets not so much. Compared to the Rivals band-in-a-box you're not saving a ton of money and risking janky used instruments, but it's not a bad option for a second guitar and extra mics you'll need to complete your band.
For music, look for (new) track packs for the Xbox 360. They come with codes to export the songs, and they carry over to the Xbox One. Some are available on Amazon for about $10 for ~20 songs. Used copies are a gamble since the code is likely redeemed, but if you can return them without issue (Gamestop), it may be worth a shot. If you have an Xbox 360, buy Rock Band Blitz (25 songs included for $15) and a (new or used) copy of RB3 (~$20 for the disc, $15 more to export 83 songs).
You can get RB4 cymbals on Amazon for $30. The Mad Catz ones work with the PDP kit.
Yes, you'll need the MIDI Pro Adapter that released back with RB3. You can still get it on Amazon for about $30. You'll also need a MIDI cable to connect the drums to the adapter.
Well, since you mentioned Canada:
https://www.amazon.ca/Mad-Catz-Rock-Wireless-Pro-Drum/dp/B019GMRA7I/
But that seems kind of expensive at $269.99CAD.
If the US Amazon will ship them to Canada, they're only $99.99USD:
https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Wireless-Pro-Drum-Kit-Xbox/dp/B019GMRA7I/
Both of these are for the Mad Catz RB4 drums. I don't think PDP sells their drums standalone.
The set I got off amazon was like $12, and they work pretty well. They don't take away ALL the pain, but it takes longer for my hands to hurt and when they do start to hurt it's not as intense. Let me get you the link for the ones I bought..
Here they are they went up a tiny bit in price since I bought them a month ago. But they are totally worth it. You can wear it two different ways, so you can figure out which way helps you the best. I highly recommend them. :)
I would be interested. Do you have an Xbox One? If so, you can get an Xbox One, a Mad Catz Wireless Legacy Adapter, and then you can use your Xbox 360 instruments so you don't have to buy one. This is the US listing but maybe there's a listing in an Amazon closer to Hungary (Germany maybe?).
I also say this because there's an impasse right now with Sony Europe which has been preventing some content from coming over to the PS4.
I use the exact same setup as you! Here's what you need:
The Rock Band MIDI Pro Adapter
The USB-MIDI cable that plugs into the e-kit
A USB to MIDI conversion cable
Do what that other user said and download MIDI-OX. Plug your drums into your PC via USB. Don't cheap out on the USB to MIDI converter-- the $9 generic/cheap foreign ones on Amazon might be tempting, but none of them worked for this setup when I tried. I finally caved and bought a nice $30 one from Guitar Center and it works flawlessly. Plug one end of it into your PC, and plug the MIDI end marked "MIDI out" into the Rock Band MIDI Pro Adapter, which in turn plugs into the console through USB. So essentially, it goes drums-->PC-->USB to MIDI cable-->Pro Adapter-->console.
Power up the drums and open MIDI-OX before turning on the console. Go to Options--> MIDI Devices, select "e-drums" as the input, and your USB to MIDI cable as the output (different ones are labeled differently, but it'll likely have USB in the name). The program will remember these settings so you only need to do it once as long as you remember to plug everything in before opening MIDI-OX. Power on your console and you're good to go! I'm extremely surprised how well it works. I don't even need to change my calibration at all!
Edit: here's the USB to MIDI converter I use:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CO5IRSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_D.sFybT0WPZEQ
We have that, too. (Edit: actually, we have the Wii U microphone. Is that the one you mean?)
Very happy with it, and it's only $13 on Amazon.
For the PDP adapter, yes. The Xbox MPA is still easy to find, .e.g on Amazon for $20.
Amazon is also selling it for the same price:
Amazon has them new: https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Track-Vol2-Xbox-360/dp/B001F04T8I
You can always try finding a used one and hoping the code is still valid, but if it's new you should be good.
I know the Metal Track Pack has three delisted songs as well (Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog", I Mother Earth's "Levitate", and Hawkwind's "Master of the Universe") if you're looking for tracks you can't get any other way.
We have an Alesis Nitro, and the beater pad is kind of small. We have a double pedal for real drums, but they are aligned with one right over the center of the clamp, and the other off to the side, and there was no way to get it to clamp and have both of the pedals hit.
We also had a spare single drum pedal, so it was cheaper to get this second kick pad than to buy a different double pedal. The Nitro doesn't have a second bass pedal input either, but it has an aux cymbal input and an aux tom input, and we were able to plus the second kick pad into the aux tom input. So we have double bass pedal using two kick pads.
~~So does your Forge have aux inputs you can use?~~ Just looked at the Forge on Amazon, and it's got the same tom 4 and crash 2 additional inputs as the Nitro. Before I bought the Yamaha, I plugged the Nitro's pedal into each of the aux jacks, just to check that it could detect a kick there. A little light came on on the drum brain, so I figured it was a safe purchase.
The Yamaha kick pad also allows pass through. You can plug your existing pad into the Yamaha, and the cord from there is a stereo cord, so both pads can send a signal to the drum brain. AFAIK, the Nitro doesn't support that input for the bass pedal, so we can't hook it up that way, but maybe your Forge does. (I'm assuming that's how that will work, but I'm not an E-kit expert.)
The Yamaha pad has a 4 inch clamp zone, compared with the Nitro's 3 inch zone, so it's also possible the double pedal would have worked on that, but we've never tried.
I'll also mention that you can use the hi-hat pedal on the Nitro as a second kick pedal, although it's going to feel different.
The Mad Catz strat is available on Amazon for $50 new.
Talking about rock band 4 or older games? And for which console? $500 for a band in a box is a shit load of money for something that was available for 100€ just a few months ago on amazon.de. That was the rock band 4 band kit for xbox one, the playstation ones have been hard to find for a while now.
Anyway, they aren't making anymore of those instruments and no official announcement has been made on the matter. Basically you probably won't find new instruments or band kits anywhere for a price that isn't ridiculous. Even the simple dongle that makes you able to play RB4 with real drums that was $10 on US amazon just 6 months ago goes for 200€ on ebay and I've seen people actually buy them. It doesn't look good for rock band if it goes on like this.
My tip would be, IF you are on the xbox one, to go for the legacy adapter(postage was $10 to finland so pretty affordable) and try to score any used wireless guitar hero or rock band guitar from local marketplaces or second hand stores if they are a thing in your country. I suggest guitar hero guitars and any wireless rock band drum kit, a guitar hero drumkit will work too but I guess its not ideal for the 4 lane notes. This way with a bit of good luck you could get everything you need for under $100 + the older drums are actually better, new ones have a lot issues with double hits.
If you're on ps4, the same thing but you'll have to do a bit of research since I don't know that much about them, but I do know ps3 guitars and drums will work with ps4 too. All i know that ps3 guitars have a terrible input lag, atleast the 2 guitar hero les pauls I own.
Oh, and basically any older rock band or guitar hero usb mic will work on both consoles as well for vocals
There aren't any instruments being manufactured right now for RB4. I got my full band kit in December for 100€ on amazon and they ran out soon after that. All the wireless 360 guitars work with the xbox one though, and all the wireless drums too(basically everything expect the drums from the first rock band that are wired) and you'll only need a $15 adapter for that.
Then it kind of depends what you're looking for. If you want online play then buy the rock band 4 game and look for used guitar hero guitars and/or rock band drums. Used rock band guitars are cheaper but people tend to prefer the guitar hero ones for their strum bar and better button feel.
Personally I also got a used slim 360 that works flawlessly and bunch of gh and rb games for it. Then I bought a used ps3 with 2 gh3 guitars but it turned out they have a lot of input lag and thats why I'd recommend staying away from ps3 guitars, it's a widely known issue and nothing you can do about it.
Though nowadays I mainly play Clone hero, it's the best for guitar gameplay. All the songs from every rb+gh+thousands of custom songs are easily available. 360 guitars are the best for PC too.
If you don't want to deal with two kick pads, you can just buy a wider kick pad and get an actual double kick pedal. I did this about 6 months ago and it works out super well, but definitely don't try to put a double pedal against the stock nitro pad because it's definitely not big enough
Here's what I bought from Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001R2RA4E/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XJLLCQ/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It says Used, probably because of the problem given by the first review:
> This product I had ordered it TWICE and it arrived with this nasty burnt plastic smelling residue on it that you could see before even opening the package. First photo is of the first opened one I had tested (which glowed so seems to be working). As for the second one, I didnt even bother opening to show the proof. Something is going on with their production is really really annoying. It's not easily cleanable. It smells almost like battery acid. Plus it's impossible to reach their customer support via the website, it keeps sending me a failure notice... Very disappointed overall
But that's something to do with the coating decomposing due to it being old, not someone spilling a Coke on it or something. People have posted about it on here before, and it doesn't affect how it works. Maybe make a post asking how other people have cleaned it.
They're $20 on Amazon for Xbox, but read the caveats here.
> Not sure how much the adapter is going for now (if you can find one), but I think they're pretty expensive.
To clarify a little, OP would need the wireless adapter, which is $50 on Amazon currently, not too bad. You might be thinking of the wired adapter needed for E-kits, which are very expensive.
> It sounds like the newer pedals have metal reinforcement, are they compatible with the RB1 1/8" plug?
All Rock Band pedals work with all Rock Band drum kits. They're just switches that close when you press down on them. Guitar Hero pedals are not compatible.
If you want an E-kit, you need an Xbox 360 MIDI Pro Adapter. Get an E-kit with Standard MIDI out, not just USB MIDI.
If you ever want to move up to RB4 on XB1, though, you would also need an adapter that's out of production, and currently going for around $700. Or else one of a few work-arounds that take more effort. Or switch to PS4 for RB4. It's kind of a mess. But for the X360, just that adapter I linked is all you need, and it's only $40.
It's just some chinese capture card I got off amazon, it doesn't have a brand name, it just says "HD Video Capture" on it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08D73Y8DR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Do some searches on Bing and earn points everyday. Takes about 2 months to earn $15 (ymmv). So if you're waiting for a sale, you might as well earn some money and maybe it will pay for itself.
If you have computer nearby, you can run the drums through the computer and use a cheap usb to midi cable to connect to the MIDI Pro Adapter.
You can also get something like (https://www.amazon.com/CAMOLA-MIDI-Host-Interface-Converter/dp/B08MZY59B7) as a standalone device to convert the signal
Oh well good! Glad I can help!
Something like this is what you should look for. Immediately. I wouldn’t even touch you legacy adapter until you get these in.
after going through lots of sticks, I now use these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071DFM3PS?ref=nb\_sb\_ss\_w\_as-reorder-t1\_ypp\_rep\_k0\_1\_16&amp=&crid=3H4CZMQJLNCFL&amp=&sprefix=pro+mark+firegra
Something like this will work - you just leave the micro USB tip in the adapter.
Not sure what model you have but a midi out e-kit + Midi Pro Adaptor or Roll Limitless adapter = Success in RB4 on PS4.
Enjoy!

https://www.amazon.ca/Bluetooth-Controller-Music-Light-Strip/dp/B09NLQZ3SX?pd_rd_w=xbsOt&content-id=amzn1.sym.fb61762c-e8c2-402e-aa93-080b70a16c59&pf_rd_p=fb61762c-e8c2-402e-aa93-080b70a16c59&pf_rd_r=R23ZSEBAFM25VYNQAY67&pd_rd_wg=s.... Then I bought 4 of these to control each drum light strip. Then all hook into a USB hub
That might work. You might want to crosspost to /r/guitarhero to ensure.
One review from this listing apparently says it does.
Not a respray - it is a special edition RB3 guitar released for PS3/wii. The quick giveaway is the deleted selector switch.
This? I have 5 thumbs on each hand, is it pretty straightforward to do?
Just got this setup about 2 weeks ago.
Definitely get Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit.
This link below is the Wii adapter you’ll need and you can switch it to the PlayStation adapter with a guide I’ll also link to you.
https://www.amazon.com/Catz-Rock-Band-PRO-ADAPTER-Wii-Nintendo/dp/B00409SOEG
Also you’ll need a simple cheap midi cable that’s around $7 here’s the link to what it looks like. I would get it on Amazon though.
Is this the same drum set that works with the wii adapter/the link you gave me? I found it at a cheaper price if it is
You'll need the Xbox 360 MIDI Pro Adapter. You can plug it in directly to your Xbox 360 and then plug in your e-kit to the adapter.
Hey! I’m in the same boat so here’s what I did! I bought a practice cymbal off Amazon (Pintech Percussion XT Series... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002F7AE2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share), a kit of piezoelectric sensors (DZS Elec 15pcs 20mm Piezo Disc... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093L6KG71?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). Next, I took all the electronics out of the original cymbal and hot glued them to the bottom of the practice cymbal. I cut the piezo sensor off the original cymbal (it’s superglued on, don’t even try) and soldered a new sensor on. Super glue the new sensor on. I then 3D printed little risers that the mounting plate can screw into and hot glued all that together. Put the damper from the original piezo on the new one, and screw it all together!
If you don’t want to make a new one, I’ll be testing the Alesis cymbals on the rb4 kit soon here and I can update!
Does your old 360 have an external / removable hard drive?
If so, you can use something like this, no special software is required, you just attach the cable to the old hard drive and plug the other end into the USB port on the new console, which should automatically detect it and offer to copy the content.
If you're on PlayStation, you're out of luck. If you're on Xbox it can still be acquired but it will NOT be easy as you require one of the rarest codes out there. It was included with this bundle. They're extremely rare to come by now a days and if they do expect to pay from $100-$250 ish for them.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Rockband/comments/kstppa/rock_band_exports_track_packs_special_packs_list/
"(Xbox) Requires the code that comes with specially marked packaging for the Rock Band 3 Pro Mustang Guitar, the Fender Stratocaster and the Precision Bass. This code is extremely rare but it includes 5 delisted songs. Includes Otherside, Under the Bridge, By the Way, Californication, The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie."
It's this little guy we picked up from amazon last year..
Stay tuned for some upcoming new additions! 🙃
I have this one and it works as expected with my Android tablet. My legacy adapter is still new in box, because I haven't had any reason to open it yet, but if this works with my tablet, it'll work with the legacy adapter.
CONFIRMED! TY! And .. YES… No/Low latency !!! Feels faster than wired USB mics (although, I know that can’t be, must just be my perception) …. Yippee. I used slightly cheaper version microphone set: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B08FB7GSPZ/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_DHG7NCPYV14MTR6YM8SP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The important part is the Rocksmith cables. They appear to be specificity supported (because of Rocksmith game).
All other cables don’t even show as attached (let alone be the right volume).
Im on Xbox1, but I think ps4/5 is same …. When you say “the mic”, witch mic(s) are you referring to? On xbox1 it’s NOT normal chat microphone. You need (up to 3) USB wired handheld microphone(s).
