>How about on a mobile phone?
If it's literally just Ace Attorney, both iOS and Android have ports for those games now. So your current phone might already be capable.

Sorry for the delay. This took longer than expected to arrive.
In the last exploratory thread, the lovely /u/se1000 recommended we try a Game & Watch tempered glass protector for the Trimui/A66.
This ended up working out well. Link is here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08PJGL5BF/
The only caveat is the installation is not terribly fun. It came with a 4 pack and I used all 4 before I was happy with the install. Here are some guidelines:
Hahaha! You don't know who you were replying to there huh? He knows his stuff very well and is an awesome person. "Retro Game Corps" is his YouTube channel and he also has a website with reviews and retro game emulator tutorials.
Also, on Pico 8 they refer to the game files as "carts".
Kind of. You can launch some executables from within DOSBox. If you wanted to launch modern applications you would likely require WINE which I haven't seen used with OpenDingux.
Restrictions due to the architecture or dependencies might also play a factor but this really isn't something I am incredibly knowledgeable about.
You mean crt? Yes, you just gotta check what input your crt has in the back, and then get a correct hdmi converter like this
There are very few game and watch roms because you actually can't dump those games the usual way.
Still there are being a lot of effort put into preserving them, you can play western bar on your android phone .
So you might be aware retropie gives you multiple emulators for each console. Only some emulators run fast enough on the pi zero. In another comment you mentioned lr-fbneo and that's definitely too difficult for the pi zero.
You can pick the emulator by mashing on A button before the game loads. Go here for a list of emulators and recommended hardware
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Super-Nintendo-Entertainment-System/
You should be using either lr-snes9x2002 or pisnes. Any other emu will probably run too slowly. I just tried mario kart using lr-snes9x2002 on my pi zero and it's perfect, no lags.
It's all in here :). https://retropie.org.uk/docs/
I'm terrible at explaining stuff, but I got all my info from the above link. Retropie is infinitely configurable, and it's sometimes very necessary to change the default emulators for various systems in order to get the best performance.
What Firmware? There are many. The process is the same once you pick one. Download it, extract with something like 7zip until you have an ".img" file. Then use BalenaEtcher to write it to a MicroSD card. Then just put the MicroSD card into your device. That's all there is to it really.
How hopeless?
There's a ton of options, from easy-and-limited, to powerful-yet-hard. Read top to bottom and stop when it hurts. :)
Easiest? Buy an Arcade 1Up or AtGames Legends cabinet. You only get a few games, but there's ZERO work. Later you can mod it, if you like.
A tiny more painful? Get a Pandoras 3D. It'll come with a ton of games, and hopefully it has everything you want. They're not easily customizable, but they're easy. Here's one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N66W38R
If you want to choose what you play, you're talking about getting your own ROMs. Here's some options there....
Easiest is if you have a Mac, get OpenEmu. Basically, pair a Bluetooth controller, drop some ROMs into the app, and it will magically work with almost no effort. It even scrapes media for you automatically.
The turnkey mini-consoles are pretty easy. A SNES Mini or PS1 Mini requires you to fetch ROMs, run a program to hack it, and then put the ROMs on a thumb drive. After that, it's really easy to manage. Availability for these is tough.
Going up in difficulty are the Chinese retro consoles. The RG350/351's and such. You'll need ROMs and some fiddling with tools, but there are great tutorials available online that should help. (Note that these tend to come with some games built-in, and will work even if you don't customize them, but they're better when you roll it yourself.)
Harder still is a RPi-based "console". You get more power and more customizability here, but setup is a bit harder. I think you could follow a YouTube video to make it work, but the more esoteric things like clean shutdown and custom controllers can be a bit challenging.
The ultimate is a computer. There's tons of options on Windows, and a few on Mac. You can do just about anything. You just need ROMs and a lot of time to tweak.
That's most of your choices... ignoring some weird edge cases like 60-in-1's and such.
Thank you so much! You have a very sharp eye, 5S BMS and 10x 3.7V batteries common to RC, toys, and tools. As for UPS functionality, I don't know, I picked the piece below on a glance because it has a common barrel jack for charging but it doesn't mention UPS:
Thinking on my toes, having a 19V input from an external power supply in parallel to the battery should achieve powering the NUC and charging the battery with enough current from the supply but I might make a little space for a simple micro switch to the battery if it is too current hungry. I don't know if plugging the barrel jack will power the board on and off. If you have any recommendations, this isn't stuff my teachers ever covered!
it can be fine in short sittings, the switch lite is pretty good for portable too but it's too large to fit in a pocket...even though you really "shouldn't" put the vita in a pocket you can with relative ease...
Vita has issues of it's own, anyone that want's to game for longer that 30 min at a crack should get grips for it, this is the model i like for my 1000 https://www.amazon.com/Insten-Trigger-Compatible-Vita-Playstation-PCH-1000/dp/B00QGTJPM8/
You can install apps that let you set any app as your launcher. My recommendation is AnyHome, it is a paid app though. For a free solution you could try Target Home Launcher.
Cool, I just bought one! I don't trust the sd cards they come with [as I'm sure you've figured out lol]
So I just bought my own 128gb card and am going to save the bios it comes with, then fresh install everything on a new card. I don't care for the 50k games, and have a pretty good rom collection.
Anyway, I just wanted to confirm that installing EmuElec onto a new card works! Ty!
I see you mentioned controllers, these are pretty cheap rn: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R481CVY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is kind of a weird moment in the industry. Everybody expects a new generation of devices soon because the current ones are all either showing their age, or kinda shitty. RG350M, PocketGo V2, and GKD350H are probably the safest choices, but they're not really known for good DS emulation.
Might wanna check out something like this.
https://www.amazon.com/Touchscreen-Android-Handheld-Portable-Hexa-core/dp/B07CG7BDGB
I got that neoprene case and it fits perfect. also have this hard shell case that’s a bit more protective and pricey, slightly more bulky but less than the anbernic stock one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08F53FTN5?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details
There's this for $300 (or $240 without the built in battery).
It's not powerful, and it's basically just a mini PC with a screen and battery slapped on/in it, but it is technically the absolute cheapest possible brand new handheld x86 PC that's fully portable and pocketable (unless OP somehow already has a 3D printer, barebones LCD screen and filament, in which case he could just make a janky custom handheld with a Lattepanda that runs Windows 10).
Cheapest thing I could find is this HIGOLEPC.
$300 with a built-in battery for full 100% portability. I think it's slightly cheaper for the version without a built-in battery (so you would need to use a powerbank as it's battery).
It only has a Celeron J4125, so it's probably not going to be very powerful. I'm sure it can run most low end indie stuff decently.
$125 on Amazon right now with Prime shipping. Honestly might the way to go when it came out to $110 shipping from China to California. Obviously, you'll need to pay sales tax in most states, but I'd pay the extra to have Amazon's return window and buyer protection.
Ok so last question: I've seen a few 353M on Amazon that cost a bit less, but it says SRYC as a brand. On the pictures it says ambernic. Are those clones/fakes or is it just the name of the shop? Example:
Depends how old your kids are. If they're fairly young then maybe a cheap famiclone like this isn't such a bad thing. That one is fairly sturdy, includes hundreds of NES games, no messing about with settings.
The upside is it's got that "pick up and play" quality that a child might like, the downside is that it only plays the included NES games and you can't expand
I think if someone had given me my own handheld with hundreds of games on it as a kid, it would've kept me entertained for months (especially considering I spent my childhood playing the same 3 games on Game Gear)
I own the 400GB you linked and use it as a linux boot drive on my GPD MicroPC. Works great!
I ordered a 512GB samsung evo last night for $45, same price right now.
Just to present the other side of this: if you’re not playing disc-based games and you actually curate a library as opposed to storing full romsets on your device, you can get a 16gb card for $8 that could be more than enough space for some people: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074B4P7KD/
I went all-out and put a 512gb card in my first SBC, moved over tons of full romsets, and basically regretted it because it made it impossible to ever stick with a game, choice paralysis. I scrapped them all, rebuilt a smaller library of just games I knew I liked or knew I wanted to play, NES, SNES, GB/C/A, N64, and PS1, and it barely touches 8gb. I regret wasting the money on such a large card, even if I some day run out of games to play from the selection I’ve got on here and add more I can’t see it ever realistically getting over 32gb.
Hey, did you buy this from Amazon? Please share the link if yes. There are so many vendors selling the same thing. I am confused who to trust.

I saw one Powkiddy V90 selling for 10 bucks.
This is perfect for kids. Turn on and play. No messing with roms, folders, cores, etc.
A bit more expensive. but I use these.
yeah it happens in this space, there was a device called pocketgo s30, had lots of issues and it was fairly priced but most people didn't gave it a second look then it went out of stock and people paid 3-4x what it retailed for on ebay.
If I were you I'd go the Trimui model s aka powkiddy a66 off aliexpress for under 35 bucks. And I'm sure you know but there's still some other one game micros still available off amazon. Qbert is 13 dollars atm lol good luck seeing the little blocks. Anyways, I'm with ya, if there is a single game retro handheld out of that list Galaga would be my choice followed closely by Ms Pac-man and Tetris. But over 20 bucks? Forget about it.
That's a receiver. Try this one. This is the one most people use: https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Compatible-WF-1000XM3/dp/B082H7NWNR/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=2YSQ7IEYM2L5K&keywords=ugreen+headphone+adapter+switch&qid=1667247461&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIwLjk4IiwicXNhIjoiMC4wMCIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAi...
Lol you know its true.
I have one of these on the way for my Switch. Does anyone know if the V90 supports Audio Out from USB-C? I know the Powkiddy a66/Trimui Model S does, I own that device too. I'll test it when I get it either way. If it works this is probably the best solution.

Bought the USB C Solution and then this one pops up. This might be a better solution for this device if there is no sound out of USB - C.
I have 30 days to return it. Is there a quick way to check how many total games there are available?
If I get a replacement card, is there a recommend minimum read speed? I was thinking something with 512gb so I could load more games that aren't included (like this https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-512GB-microSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B08GXXKY6P/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1MV143X8ULGMZ&keywords=512gb+microsd+sandisk&qid=1665465024&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjQ3IiwicXNhIjoiMC45NyIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=512gb+microsd+sandisk%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-1&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.08f69ac3-fd3d-4b88-bca2-8997e41410bb)
I got this case. It works quite well! Very snug, too, so it doesn't bulk up the machine to decrease pocketability.
that was the key. I randomly saw it in a post on this subreddit. If in america, its just this lipstick rack :-). I'm surprised at how great it is.

The GameSir app can switch the controller into a different mode that some apps and games don't recognize. It was a feature on the old X2. Happened to me when I tried to use the GameSir app to update the firmware.
Uninstall the GameSir app, reboot, and use Gamepad Tester (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.elron.gamepadtester) to test the controller.
How about that new playstation styled one? https://www.amazon.com/Backbone-Mobile-Gaming-Controller-PlayStation-iOS/dp/B09ZXTRKQ9/
Of course that one is iPhone only, not sure if there is a USB-C model. But at $99 it better be awesome, that's $30 more than a DualSense
I bought this for the retroid pocket 2+ and it fits well, even a little big (not too much), I bought the largest size
https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B09B9P86YS/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o04\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
btw, that grip on your 2DS, they made a revised on that is slightly more comfortable. It's 16 bucks and not a huge improvement, but just and fyi
That case looks perfect for some of my smaller photo gear (GoPros, 360 cams, etc)
For smaller stuff (wires, chargers, adapters) I've been using clear vinyl makeup bags for years, for computer and photo stuff. Since they're clear, it's really fast to see what's in them, and then you just drop a few in a backpack or camera bag.
https://www.amazon.com/APREUTY-Approved-Waterproof-Compliant-Organization/dp/B07FZ4ZNRV/
Please don't advertize that, it's literally one of those $15 capture card sold for 4 times the price with outdated codecs that make the image fuzzy, 720p only and with too much latency to be usable.
Something like this might be what you are looking for.
What you’ve got is for video output, what you need is something like Genki Shadowbox for video input (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093V5WF8Y/ ). It’s the only one I know of, maybe there are others.
I’m not 100% sure if and how it will work in the Super Console/iMac environment, so better look up a couple of videos/reviews on YouTube if you decide to get it.
Here you are! Check out their store there's a lot of options
I'm so sorry I meant to do this, its by this company called Prosumer, there's a lot of options other than this one too https://www.amazon.com/Prosumers-Choice-Natural-Charging-Smartphones/dp/B01BIARJRM/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=BFVAFSHVRJJQ&keywords=prosumer+choice+bamboo+charging+station&qid=1660686526&sprefix=prosumer+%2Caps%2C229&sr=8-3
If you ever get concerned about charging overnight, you can consider battery charging safes/bags.
e.g.
https://www.amazon.com/HOOVO-Fireproof-Explosionproof-Battery-Charging/dp/B08ZSD8J6W
This isn't a 100% effective solution. It's designed for higher power batteries used in radio control but for smaller lower power batteries like handheld devices, it should be fine.

Where are you buying a backwards-compatible (not all wii's are- mine is not) working Wii for $10? Any old Bluetooth adapter works. Most computers you would emulate with probably have one already, if not that's an extra $5. If you want to get really fancy, Mayflash has a $35 bar that is USB powered, automatically shuts itself off when you aren't using dolphin, and has a Bluetooth adapter built-in. It's kind of the luxury model, but even that is less than I've ever seen a working Wii go for.
CRT's are a pain. They're ridiculously heavy, and you need dedicated furniture to take up more space in your house. They use a ton of power and generate a ton of heat. You need to basically have a couple hundred square feet dedicated to retro gaming. Compared to emulation, I can upscale to 1080p or even 4k and stream it to any screen in my house. The tablet on the treadmill, the living room TV, any Android handheld, whatever. Not all of those cases are suited to a WiiMote of course, but those wouldn't be possible with a Wii anyways. And the upside is that I can use a GC controller or WiiMote, or I can use an Xbox, PlayStation, or whatever other controller I want.
I don't understand the love for CRT's, especially for 3D games. I grew up with CRT's and don't miss them at all.
My roommate plays Super Mario Bros on her phone.
Not with a NES emulator, but with the phone's case.
(I believe it's this one, but she's not home right now for me to double check)
Okay I think this half fan half emulator monster is my favorite right now.
I wonder if the fan affects the battery life. Who is this for?!
This cheapo claims to have TF card support, and on the backside on the lower right I think I see the markers on the case to support the claim.
I'm not sure I'd be willing to give it a shake without some kind of custom firmware out there.
Just pick up a pocketgo 1 and call it a day? the soc has similar performance, all while having most issues resolved through cfw 3.3 releases
amazon still has stock of the Q90, so they still make the soc:
https://www.amazon.com/CredevZone-Handheld-Consoles-Rechargeable-Transparent/dp/B09F8FW8KW
I still don't understand why Allwinner released a new chip so with slower CPU just to add a basic GPU to the package?
Yeah, mine has been running flawlessly for two years sandwiched in-between my cell phone and outer pocket in this slim grip case

For the money and ability to order today, I say Retroid Pocket 2 Plus.
Depends one what you're trying to do with the power and how long you're willing to wait. I do a lot of emulation, so Android is good for that. I use a Retroidpocket2+, it os designed like the GBA. You could get it in a coupme of days from Amazon.
If you want more power than that, you may want to look into a little bigger than GBA. Have you heard of AYN Odin? It's a little bigger than GBA but smaller than full size switch, around Switch Lite form factor.
So they can't get their own games? Other than that, Retoid is pretty good. It loads up all the emulators and stuff you need during setup. It doesn't come with any games though.
I got this one. Fits all the stuff you said, goes up to Dreamcast.
I found this on Amazon for $26 and it says it has a TF Card. Has anyone ever gotten or messed with this model?

You are able to buy it with Amazon Prime now. (you can probably take advantage of the return policy if you ever need to)
Personally, I might buy a Miyoo Mini, a complaint I've had with my RG552 is it's very big carrying it around on campus. I have very big pockets (I could hold a handheld, my phone, and my earbuds in only one) but it's also somewhat heavy, not great for my pockets I tell you :/
Wow, guess I missed that the first time around. Odd, though - I don't think mine's "bulky" - for comparison, I've got a 351V and RG503 (and a Miyoo Mini, but different weight class altogether there.) If anything, the edges could be a little bit more rounded, but the Retroid fits in my pocket well with a generic soft 3DSXL case (the official hard case is nice but way too bulky for me.)

Interesting. I’ve been having some trouble with one of the buttons on my PiBoy DMG. I replaced all of the silicon pads and buttons, which improved things a lot, but I still need to press slightly harder than the others to get it to register. Do you think some contact cleanser would help? I just ordered this. How much are you supposed to apply.

I recently bought this for my RP2+, it’s a hard carry case for a new 3ds XL but it fits the RP2+ pretty decently. It’s £8.49 on Amazon (UK) - link below.
Even has a zipped section in the top half for a charge cable.
Possibly overkill but I do tend to throw my devices in my work bag so I do like the cases to be of the hard shell type.

I bought this one several months ago. There was only 1 review at the time. The newest reviews say it doesn't fit but since the screen is raised you couldn't have a protector to all the way to the edge since the edges of the protector would constantly be in danger of being lifted from the screen. I'm personally very satisfied with it and I even cut of to for my Miyoo Mini. Just know that they are plastic, not glass.

I'm waiting on mine but from the picture it's a 3.7v 2000mAh 804050 battery so you can search for that on ebay and amazon.
This is the one I found a week ago. Looks like the same connector. Do your own research and purchase at your own peril :-P
Great for GB and GBC but in my honest opinion too weak for the cost right now. At the $30-$40 price I'd rather get a V90 or one of the cheaper Anbernics. I did a video a while back on the "coolbaby" and it was way more powerful than this but only cost around $20 from Amazon. I got this mainly because I'm a collector and loved the heart that went into this model back in 2017. 5 years later we have a lot better stuff going on though.
For my money, the best model available with this form factor is the Anbernic 351v
I use this one. Good for protection and general travel, not good if you need something less bulky for the pocket.

I found one on amazon if that helps
This one is highly recommended in the classic iPod scene for folks that don't want to put one internally. It would probably work great on any of the handhelds.
>Nice!! Excellent work! When talking about 5 ghz, that would be with a dongle/adapter, yes?
Yes, or you can replace the internal WIFI if you have the skills. Lots of us have replaced ours. You can find a compatible module on Amazon, here is the model most of us are using.
Combine this with a DS4
Wow this SBC is $3 on Amazon lol!
So if you want a cheap Mini PC, look into Beelink. I have one of their systems, the GK55, and it's been pretty decent for $200. Not a powerhouse, but better than you would expect for $200. This is a model close to mine. https://www.amazon.com/Beelink-GK-Processor-Computer-Ethernet/dp/B08JGZ6LYY/
However, it is really not that powerful. It is okay for older 2D games, like SNES/Genesis and below should be fine. But if you are talking about Gamecube/PS2 etc. I do not think it has the power. To be honest, I didn't try (since I use my handheld for that) but I did test a bunch of 3D games on Steam and the performance is pretty bad. Even 720p low settings is a struggle. I had to run at 540p to even get 60 fps.
I imagine other cheap PCs will be similar. You're not going to get great 3D graphics for $200. Maybe PS1 is possible, I would have to test it, but I highly doubt better than that.
I bought this 6+ months ago: HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Desktop Mini Business PC, Intel Quad-Core i5-6500T up to 3.1G,16G DDR4,240G SSD,VGA,DP,Win 10 Pro 64 bit-Multi-Language Support English/Spanish (Renewed)https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J2SPR49/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It was $230 +tax free delivery backed by Amazon with a 3/4 month return policy this mini computer has been solid as a rock. The Intel graphics chip handles a lot of PS2, all N64 Gamecube Saturn Dreamcast some Wii. It runs GTA V perfectly at low settings. Until the Steam Deck ships this presently handles all my at home gaming.
I am well aware of that, here is one closer to his budjet, thats why i said there are some that are cheaper, like this one. https://www.amazon.com/GEEK-Desktop-Celeron-Graphics-Computers/dp/B08SQS7NWQ/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=geekplus&qid=1630119657&sr=8-5
