Use Mupen64Plus FZ instead, it gets kept up to date, and is quite open about being based on the Mupen64Plus AE code that so many other emulators keep claiming as their own
I'm gonna go a step further and recommend Mupen64 FZ.
It gets updated quite often and runs a lot better than the regular one.
Feel free to give my build of Mupen64Plus AE a try here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
If you have a fast device, you can use the GLideN64-Very-Accurate emulation profiles which are the most accurately graphically. And the performance is great in shield devices.
If you need best performance without caring for graphics, you can stick with the defaults.
Just a heads up, this version is completely up to date and updated every 2 days or so.
The best working Mario Kart is the one for N64.
It's quite easy to set up. I'm using Mupen64plus fz. You download the Mario Kart ROM, put on your Android TV or a USB drive and can start.
In addition the are Mario Karts for GameCube and Wii you can emulate with dolphin. But it's hard to set up and not working very well.
For specific questions I would head over to /r/emulationonandroid.
If you have a fast Android device, Mupen64plus FZ works ok as well with GLideN64:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
This build of GLideN64 is already included.
You downloaded malware instead of the file, and I must say that's not directly related to Android, since you're new to it. Follow the other comments.
I would also like to say that the best N64 emulator is Mupen64 Plus FZ edition.
Mupen64Plus FZ, although I haven't personally used it yet.
Your experience will be highly dependent and what settings and plugins you use when it comes to N64 emulation.
I can also confirm that Nintendo 64 emulators work decently on it with a little tinkering with the settings. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=en is the best I've found. I was able to use a Xbox 360 controller and a OTG cable to play it.
> I like retroarch as I like the all in one UX. Is there a better option?
For N64? Mupen64Plus FZ.
Retroarch is great, but for some platforms there are better options. Specifically, Drastic for NDS, ePSXe for PS1, and Mupen64Plus FZ for N64. Retroarch is a fine option for pretty much anything else.
And no, the 32-bit Retroarch is generally the best option.
I suggest, specifically, Mupen64Plus FZ, as there are one or two others which were garbage when I last tried them.
Man, handheld N64 emulation was my #1 reason for buying my nVidia Shield. While Android with Mupen64Plus FZ is great for that, I would so love to have something that will play the actual cartridges (plus, if this potential system is a hardware-level clone, it'll probably have better compatibility and/or less bugs with those 'problem' games such as StarCraft64, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, and Rayman 2: The Great Escape)...
No, it's free. I logged out of google play to see the price to be sure.
Are you sure you're not looking at some scam app?
mupen64plus-fz (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=en) supports hi res textures. It would probably depend on the game, but I would assume Super Mario 64 would work quite well on a Note 3
Try my version of mulen64plus:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
It includes the GLideN64 plugin which makes a lot more games playable. You will need a higher end device though.
What phone do you have? It can make a difference in which GameCube emulator to use.
For N64 I'd recommend the best choice as Mupen64Plus FZ, still updated all the time and has always offered the best performance.
For GameCube on mid-range phones I'd recommend Dolphin MMJ or MMJR(an updated version, but I've not used it), for high-end phones just the normal Dolphin emulator.
There might be other options for N64 but I'm pretty certain the linked one is the fastest, but for GameCube the only option is some variant of the Dolphin emulator for sure.
Is a really good N64 emulator. I don't know what you are doing wrong. You could just need to tweak some settings. Or your device might not be able to handle those emulators.
For emulator, either Project 64 or Mupen64Plus.
https://www.pj64-emu.com/nightly-builds
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
For the rom, see the spreadsheet automod linked.
I've actually recently started playing on android with Mupen64Plus FZ
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=en_US
and I've had absolutely no problems with it! Just got Kooper and he works fine.
This should be your N64 emulator:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
This is what I use for SNES, not pretty but it works well:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.explusalpha.Snes9xPlus
No problem, but what I meant was Mupen64Plus FZ standalone.
Retroarch is good for a lot of stuff but I still feel N64 and PSP are better on standalone emulators.
There are native N64 emulators on Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=en
That's the most up to date one. So why would you run an emulator in an emulator?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
(Chromecast-ing a screen mirror to my tv while on a wireless charging pad Coupled with usb n64 controllers from Alibaba. A USB hub/otg cable combo is needed)
Just confirming, you do have root access, right? If you don't, any changes you make to that file won't be saved. It's also possible even if you do have root, that your device is recognizing the controller instead of using a generic.kl, so you might need to look through the .kl files and see which files support which controllers (IIRC they're documented with comments at the beginning of each file).
Also, I don't think RA has the settings I mentioned, they're baked into the controller settings in the Mupen 64 Plus FZ interface.
I'd personally wait until they have a stable version. But don't give up hope on it in the future as the Snapdragon 820 is fairly powerful.
I am using a n64 emulator myself. It works great https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
Tinkering with the settings I am able to play the original Paper Mario and a bunch of other games.
Actually, this is the current hotness. The original author apparently went AWOL so this guy is publishing updates under that entry. It was just updated yesterday to tell you how recent it is.
Get this version of mupen64plus: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
It lets you create custom touchscreen profiles.
To do it, once you are at the gallery, open up the side bar, click on touchscreen profiles, click on the touchscreen profile you want to change, the click on copy. The rest should be self explanatory.
That looks like the launch command for Mupen64Plus-AE. For N64 emulation I think you're better off using M64Plus FZ since it's a fork that is updated more frequently. The metadata for that should look like this:
collection: Nintendo 64 shortname: n64 extensions: bin, n64, ndd, u1, v64, z64 launch: am start -n org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita/paulscode.android.mupen64plusae.SplashActivity -a android.intent.action.VIEW -d "{file.path}" --activity-clear-task --activity-clear-top --activity-no-history
Uhhh I think it was the M64 plus
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
I deleted it from my old phone since I was having storage issues, and I've since got a new one.
When you say Mario Kart I'm assuming you mean Mario Kart 64. The current go to for N64 emulation is [M64Plus FZ Emulator
](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=en_US&gl=US&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dn64+emulator+android&pcampaignid=APPU_1_ZASHYp2uPIfPkPIP7fKZgAo). I think the pro version is worth it. Next you would need to get the rom, r/roms can help you with that. Controller wise, 8bitdo/ Xbox controllers work great. If you are interested in learning more about emulation r/emulationonandriod is another great resource to check out.
Skyline doesn't work with that game yet. You don'5 need it anyway if you wanna play the original Pokemon Snap. For that Mupen64 will be enough
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
I use this for n64 and for psx I use the pcxrearmed core. PSP is better with the latest dev build from the website and Vulkan backend.
I'm not sure how long you've been on Reddit, but time and time again I see people posting easy to Google questions. You have great faith in others, but unfortunately, lots don't even try to help themselves before asking for help or paying for the convenience.
I wish I could show everyone who plans on paying extra for this just to play retro games how to emulate. It's way easier than it sounds. Most literally just take some super easy to install software and reads .zip folders of the game data. It's not as complicated as some people seem to think it is. It used to be way harder to emulate but it's seriously gotten ridiculously easy the past few years or so.
I mean, shit, you have .zip reading emulators on the play store for crying out loud. It's honestly not that hard to emulate retro games anymore.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
You need a Nintendo 64 emulator. You'll then need the correct ROM file (a copy of the data on the original cartridge), which we can not help you with acquiring, and load it into the emulator.
I'd recommend using this emulator:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=en_US&gl=US
This is the most up to date, most compatible and fastest N64 emulator for Android.
Matsu hasn't been updated for a while as I understand it so I would recommend using something else.
Retroarch has been mentioned so I'd recommend M64Plus FZ or if you'd prefer another multi-system emulator Lemuroid is pretty good, it also runs Rogue Squadron which is enough for me.
m64 fz plus works great for me. I don't need pro. but might buy it anyway.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=en_US

Ocarina of Time is for the Nintendo 64, so prepare yourself for some gnarly graphics if you're on the younger side. One of the all time classics though, for sure. Mupen 64 emulator has worked perfectly for me
More for gaming, just discovered mupen64plus fz, a pretty amazing N64 emulator which even supports multiple controllers. Performance is quite stellar on my chromebook too!
Haha excellent!
Once you do grab this emulator :
And this one My OldBoy!
Then get some of your favorite ROMs (if you need a source let me know) and enjoy!
Apparently Mupen64plus FZ has transfer pak support.

However, Shockslayer may have been talking out of his ass about compatibility for all I know. Only way to find out is to try I guess.
Nah. N64 runs fine on most PCs and Android devices these days. On PC you want m64p or the Retroarch Mupen cores. On Android, use Mupen64Plus FZ.
"Mupen64Plus FZ" Sorry, the spacing made it confusing
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=en_GB
I have none of those issues on my shield . n64 works fine (not perfect) but acceptable just make sure you are using the right emulator and you setup it correctly .
other emulators are absolutely great.
I would not touch a firestick . the OP was talking about the Firetv anyways .
Geforce now sucks , for sure though :)
I just tried the texture pack and it does take effect, although, there are issues. First, make sure you are using this version of mupen64plus: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
Next, after you add your ROM, open up the sidebar and select "Tools" then "Add texture pack".
After you are done with that, select the ROM, go to settings, and change the emulation profile to "Rice-Accurate".
Also, you can use the GLideN64 emulation profile, but it looks like the texture pack was not made with GLideN64 in mind since many issues show up.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
It's more up to date than the other Mupen64 variants and includes the most updated emulation cores. Be sure to try all the different cores to see which one works the best with the games you are trying to play. (I've had the best luck with GlideN64). If you are still having problems, you can always contact the dev /u/FZurita
Alternately, you could try Mupen64Plus FZ standalone. I think it may be more up-to-date than any Retroarch Mupen cores anyway. Same goes for PPSSPP standalone at the PPSSPP buildbot.
I've been using one of the new Bluetooth Xbox One controllers. Works great natively, no root or extra apps required like you might need for a DualShock. I haven't had any luck finding a mount for it though.
Played Minecraft and Terraria just fine.
For N64 emulation I've been using Mupen64Plus FZ. It has a key-mappable speed up function I use all the time.
If N64 is all you're looking for I would just get Mupen64Plus FZ Edition. Otherwise, if you're looking to emulate other systems and are fine with an all in one solution, go for Retroarch.
It's based off the Open Source Mupen64+, according to his notes all he added was "...an improved UI, controller overlays, and more accurate texturing for some games."
The only 3 varients of N64 emulators I'm aware of is RetroArch with the Mupen64Plus core, the android app Mupen64Plus FZ, and the newly public beta of Project64.
Protip: The newest version of Mupen64Plus has moved to here. If your using Mupen64+AE then your using an emulator that hasn't been updated in 2.5 years.
This is the Google Play Store link for those curious.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
I recommend it, it's the one I use.
Probably not! Make sure you have the Mupen64 Plus FZ edition.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=en
This is the best afaik, good interface, good emulation quality, use Gliden64 plugin for best graphical quality.
Mupen 64 is my favorite N64 emulator. It's almost unplayable without a Bluetooth controller though.
I use this one. It has always worked well for me.
Mupen64Plus FZ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
Was updated April 11...
Your best choice is retroarch + dig frontend. I'll copy paste my preferences I did on a separate post.
I have retroarch set up to play: NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, GBA, Sega Megadrive, SNES, Sega Mega CD, Sega 32x, Atari 2600, Atari Lynx, Neogeo Pocket Color, Sega Game Gear, MSX, and Virtual Boy
You have to download the cores first but it's all done from the Retroarch menu interface. (Load core -> Download a Core ->...) (Also you use the B button to go back, the back button doesn't do anything on retroarch.)
These are my core recommendations:
For other systems I use standalone emulators:
Also I heavily recommend getting the DIG frontend to be able to launch the games quickly without having to deal with the clunky Retroarch frontend no more than necessary.
DIG also supports adding shortcut directly to each system's page, so you can add those you want to your home menu manually, while still keeping direct shortcuts to some standalone emulators; like, those you'd rather boot to their own special selectors instead of using the unified DIG frontend.
I have added direct shortcuts for Drastic (Nintendo DS), ePSXe (Playstation), Yaba Sanshiro (Sega Saturm), PPSSPP (PSP), Reicast (Sega Dreamcast), and FreeDOSBox (MS-DOS).
> I use TVLauncher as my home launcher of choice, as its sleek and it's highly customizable, along with xShortcut as a workaround to be able to add direct shortcut to DIG pages (If your home launcher supports widget shortcuts, then you don't need this).
Keep in mind that DIG Frontend uses a different configurations file for retroarch than the one used when launching Retroarch directly. So the settings you change when opening Retroarch directly will not affect the ones you change when launching from the DIG frontend, and vice versa. The first time you open retroarch you're gonna wanna configure everything from retroarch, and then SAVE the configuration file to where the DIG configuration file should be located.
The configurations files are located here:
storage/emulated/0/Android/com.digdroid.alman.dig/files/retroarch.cfg (This is the one DIG uses) storage/emulated/0/Android/com.retroarch/files/retroarch.cfg (This is the default one)
Downloaded cores are global and don't depend on which configuration file you're using (They will still show up no matter what).
Que celu?
Mupen64 FZ
Seems like it is updated
Check out the FZ edition by /u/fzurita

Search for Robert Broglia on the Play Store. He maintains several good emulators. For N64 I suggest Mupen64plus FZ and for Nintendo DS DraStic is the way to go. We also have RetroArch, which has loads of features and can emulate just about anything you throw at it. The interface can be a bit intimidating or clunky at times but it's well worth learning.
Use Mupen FZ, it's the most up to date version
You have to get it seperates, here is the link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
Best one to use right out of the box (digital box, I guess). No idea about cheats.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
This is the one, most other N64 emulators on the Play Store are forks of this with ads added
There's a lot of N64 emulators in the playstore, I use this one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
Are you using this Mupen?
For mobile: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
PC: Mupen64 or Project64
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
Or RetroArch parallel core.
Control: Ipega 9055 Bluetooth Remote
Software: Mupen64 Emulator for Android
And the mario game? You're gonna have to google that one, I ain't sayin :-)
That's not the latest build. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
Try that one. Get rid of the AE build from Paul's Code, it's majorly out of date.
That's by no means the newest build. This is the newest:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
For Android, Mupen64Plus : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita Would also recommend retroarch
Use Mupen64 FZ ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=sv ). It's up to date and maintained by a guy at /r/EmulationOnAndroid
np. The latest build is here.
I believe M64Plus FZ is generally agreed to be the best on android, though I haven't looked into it in a long while
Download the standalone emulator from the Playstore
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita
Well, you can get a ROM for the game and an emulator. Project64 is a great Nintendo 64 emulator, I definitely recommend it.
If you don’t have a computer, Mupen64Plus FZ is a good N64 emulator for Android, though you may want to find an older version online since the latest update added ads.
If you only have an iPhone to work with, then things are a little harder. I would normally recommend Delta, but it doesn’t have very good N64 emulation and breaks a lot of things in Kirby 64. I have found that Provenance does run Kirby 64 properly, but its controls are pretty hard to use.
As for the ROM itself? I… can’t really tell you. There’s a good chance this sub disallows sharing ROM sites. All I can recommend is to Google “Preserving the classics since 1997”.
Hope this helps you!
It's on the Google Play store, here's a direct link so you can take a look: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita

Are you running with Project64 and getting the error, "Fatal Error: Stopping Emulation"? Project64 wouldn't work no matter what I tried. Try the mupen64plus emulator instead: http://m64py.sourceforge.net/. I think you'll have better luck with that :)
(P.S. mupen64plus for Android is awesome)
I'm going to assume you meant any N64 emulator given the context.
If your device is compatible with Android apps, then you can use an N64 emulator for Android. Refer to this page to see if your Chromebook is compatible:
https://sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/dev/chromium-os/chrome-os-systems-supporting-android-apps
Here's how to install Android apps on a Chromebook:
https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/7021273?hl=en
The best N64 emulator on Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita&hl=en
Not all games will work and performance depends very much on how fast your Chromebook is. If it's a very cheap model, it'll struggle with certain games and even better models will not be able to handle every title.
If you meant emulators in general, there's a ton for Android. Go to this page and look for the system you want to emulate:
http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Main_Page
Then look if there's a "Mobile/ARM section" with a little Android icon next to the name of an emulator and look if it's recommended. Go from there.
If your device is not compatible with Android apps or if all of the above is too much trouble for you, then there's another option: Browser-based emulation. A Chromebook is mainly a device powering the browser Chrome, after all. There are a couple of disadvantages to this, mainly performance (I tried a random N64 browser emulator and its performance was quite poor on my desktop PC, so it would probably be unplayable on a Chromebook). You can try though, just type "N64 browser emulator" (replace N64 with another system if you're looking for something else) into Google and see where it takes you. Only visit these pages with an adblocker though or you'll have a bad time. Make sure to read the instructions on how to save games with each of these emulators so that you don't lose your progress.
There is legal browser-based emulation on the Internet Archive, which have a huge collection of mostly older games from the '80s. It works really well and there are a ton of classics:
https://archive.org/details/internetarcade
No need for an adblocker on that site, since they're a nonprofit. Take a look around on that site, they have lots of other interesting things, like a huge archive of other old media (books, magazines, videos, music) and the famous Wayback Machine, which has been saving Billions of websites since the dawn of the Internet, preserving many that have long perished for future generations.
Yes off the Playstore. I have it working on Chromecast with Google TV. I also have some Shield TVs that already had multiplayer working. Here are the instructions I posted below:
Yes it can definitely be done! I am using the new Chromecast with Google TV. Here is what you do:

You should really write a FAQ :) I already got usefull info out of this post.
Can you link the 64bit retroarch version you use?
Also do you use Kodi and did you look into the emulation capabilities of it? I wondered if the Kodi app uses its own libretro cores or grabs them somehow from retroarch app? If no, are the kodi libretro cores worse in terms of performance compared to retroarch app's cores?
Then there's these standalone emulator apps like Mupen64Plus FZ or Dolphin for example.
I wondered how these hold up in performance vs the libretro cores from retroarch. Then there are custom builds from these apps like this Dolphin build...
Tbh for me it's all a bit confusing :D

I just assume that by default kodi uses built in cores and not cores from retroarch app.
My goal would be to use Kodi as frontend but cores from retroarch app.
Sry to burst into this thread here, it just seems you're more experienced in emulation on the shield than I am and maybe you know any way do do what I intend.
Use this one. Mupen64Plus FZ

I’d suggest this to start with...
This is the app I use. Link
First try this N64 emulator - Mupen64Plus FZ
> I'm afraid you're out of luck for a good N64 emu anywhere besides PC
Well, Android has Mupen64Plus FZ and Project64, so that's why I was thinking about an Ouya or similar, but a Raspberry Pi can also run Mupen64Plus (which I prefer over Project64 anyway) and I think the Pi 3 is more powerful than an Ouya.
PSX would also be no problem on either system, as RetroArch is available for both and can use either the Mednafen-PSX or PCSX cores. Really, I'd probably just use Retroarch for everything, as I have it on my nVidia Shield and already know it works well.
Another incentive to go the Pi route is that I can plug a USB hub into it and immediately have plenty of controllers for multiplayer (I have multiple Logitech Rumblepads, wired 360 controllers, and a few other USB controllers, whereas I don't own any bluetooth ones).
Mupen64Plus FZ eddition best N64 emulator.
Mupen64Plus is outdated. Try this instead.
That build's over a year old. Latest build is on the Play Store. Mupen64Plus FZ. Current build is three days old.
<strong>N64 - Mupen64plus FZ edition</strong> (free)
Emulates about as well as RetroArch, maybe a smidge faster. I just prefer this sometimes because it's easy to set up and has a nice GUI. (N64 emulation takes soooo much configuration fiddling depending on what you want to play you really want to streamline that)
<strong>DS - DraStic</strong> (paid)
Don't even bother with anything else on Android unless you're a cheap bastard. Otherwise there's NDS4Droid or RetroArch.
<strong>PSP - PPSSPP</strong> (free)
There's also a RetroArch PPSSPP core but it's old and the standalone version is recommended.
<strong>Pretty much everything else - RetroArch</strong> (free)
It's difficult to do this justice if you're not already familiar with it but aside from the standalone emulators mentioned above, which I find more reliable for 3D-era consoles, RetroArch should cover all other needs. Just check out the link and take a look at that feature list. Check out the libretro forums or /r/RetroArch for further assistance because as awesome as it is, it's not always the most intuitive.
FYI, Mupen64Plus FZ edition in the google play store has been updated to include the latest GLideN64.
