Most of these are original from my childhood. They were just collecting dust in my parents' basement, so I rescued them, bought a shelf off Amazon, box art cases from Custom Game Cases, and put them on display.
Playing old games brings back a lot of good memories, but I've had just as much fun adding to the collection as of late. I don't think I'll ever go for 296 (I'm at 39 right now with one on the way), but there are some fun ones I missed the first time around. I'll make sure to add those eventually.
Edit: I've also pre-ordered the UltraHDMI mod, so I'm pretty excited to get that. I won't be modding my original console, though. I'll pick up a used one online, and one of the modders can operate on that. Haha.
I went with the ELEPHAS Mini Portable Projector (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07K2WCST7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_i.inDb1NZJ4A5)
For this quick test I was using the N64 emulator on my Amazon Fire stick with an 8bitdo SF30 Pro controller.
Going forward I will be hooking up my Ultra HDMI modded system.
Love the experience so far, can’t wait to have people over for some 4 player action on games like smash and goldeneye.
You do not need an older pc. All you need is a usb to rs232 cable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0753HBT12/
Assembly is not hard to figure out. You need to look up the instruction set for the PIC and read through/understand what each instruction does. This will help you understand the code
The seed and checksum values are related to the game that you are trying to bypass the security for.. I think. I don’t have time to watch that video right now to figure that out right now
Holy moly this is excellent. If you really want to get people excited, I think that adding support for the 8bitdo receiver and wireless N64 controllers would really push this over the top.
It also looks like a very good "my first mod", with only a handful of connections and no fine pitch soldering.
You should get svideo instead! But eBay and Amazon work well.
This one works well

Retro Fighters Brawler64 Gamepad Next Gen Controller for N64 - Orange https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MH4F9NL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_91tNCbW7XJMP5
I paid a different price ($39.95) than what is listed though...
You left out what I consider to be the sexiest one: YAP64.
EDIT: I take that back. The aluminum unibody N64 is most definitely the sexiest.
Sticks are easy to replace on N64 controllers. I got some for pretty cheap off amazon. Came with the screwdriver that you need to crack them open too. Bring them back to life!
This one didn’t have a screwdriver with it. Take a look at the screws on the back of the controller and make sure you can take them apart. My controllers were second hand and had small Phillips screws. I thought stock controllers have some weird triangle screws.
My joycon replacements came with the screwdriver set.
N64s generally work well on older CRT TV in terms of picture quality. Most retro gamers recommend Sony Trinitron CRTs as they are of good quality with multiple input options. The majority of N64 games DO NOT output 16:9 ratio. In fact there are only 7 which do. Playing most 64 titles in 16:9 ratio will make them look 'stretched'.
A stock N64 cannot output high quality (HD) video, the best you're gonna get without modification be an S-video signal, which looks a better than Composite, but it's nowhere near HDMI quality.
If you don't abuse them, original controllers will last a long time. Outside of that, I prefer to use the Horipad mini as it feels a little more comfortable in the hand. But you can expect to pay a premium price for those controllers.
Hope this helps!
I preordered one on Amazon. It's arriving today! I can do a review if you guys are interested.
Retro-Bit 8bitdo Mobile Wireless Bluetooth N64 Controller for iOS, Android, PC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1KP9GT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2P2gyb92997BA
What I find interesting, it says it works with current Nintendo consoles... How Can I get it to work with the wiiu? Does it pair up like a regular controller?
Looks like these can be found on Aliexpress. This is good to know because I hadn't realized reproduction N64 carts were a thing yet.
Have you tried third party controller mapping apps? The gamepad support on Mac is pretty garbage, but generally any non-xinput generic USB gamepad will work, as well as Playstation controllers. Sometimes you need third party mapping utilities to make it work such as this
I use one like this, and it works okay. Nothing stellar. It looks terrible in obs but the actual stream looks fine. You can get a bit better of a capture using splitters, but if you wanna capture after the retrotink upscales and not before, this has an HDMI out so you don't have to have a splitter mess.
Strongly recommend you get the retrotink and avoid the eon super64
These ones i bought for super cheap on amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PNK5D6H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I originally bought them when i did a battery mod on my gamecube. so i wouldnt have to solder new batteries anymore, just pop out and in
came in pack of 10 a minimum and i still some left over
they work great!
These dust covers are actually a third party kind I found on Amazon. I think Nintendo shipped them without any kind dust protection back in the day, probably hoping to sell accessories. https://www.amazon.com/Global-Game-GGG0030-Nintendo-64-Cover/dp/B00AAIDNTW/
I definitely agree with you about that there's are misperceptions about the quality of the N64's library. Sure, not every game is Super Mario 64, but there's still a lot of fun games or games worth playing because they really tried something unique.
Check amazon? I just ordered this one:
Retro Fighters Brawler64 Gamepad Next Gen Controller for N64 - Orange
And and you can pre-order the (cheaper) gray one here:

You have to beat specific times on each course in the time trials mode. The times and more details are here- http://www.gamefaqs.com/n64/197118-diddy-kong-racing/faqs/3190. Some tracks aren't too bad, but there's a couple that you have to run nearly perfect on.
I bet this has been covered multiple times and if you googled it you would get your answer...
Magic
Well I only know a handful of Japanese words, but Anki really is the way to go with learning languages (in my opinion). Say you find the word for 'sword', then go to a site like this, and then paste the Kanji and a screenshot from the game on one card, and then the English definition on the other side. Maybe something like that?
I don't really know Japanese though, but flashcards I think are the way to go.
If you want to be fancy, a box (like one of the generic plastic bins), plus foam to pack it in?
My childhood systems survived in a regular cardboard box wrapped in packing paper for close to 15 years.
Something like this. Basically for SNES/N64 cartridges the two tabs stick through holes in the PCB. If you get a regular watch battery you will have no way of getting the negative and positive points on the battery to make a connection with the PCB. Some people try and rip the tabs off the old battery and use electrical tape to hold a new battery to the tabs but I really suggest learning how to do a full replacement properly.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P6R46W/
I've bought and used these myself, they work great. There is a slight, even checkerboard pattern that gets applied to the image, but it's still significantly better than composite and very cheap.
A month ago I ordered a RetroTink and chose to get the S-Video cables they offer with it, they shipped the exact same cables that I got from above.
The Retrotink 2x is probably what you want. The difference between RGB and svideo is minor in my opinion.
Alternatively you could go svideo to VGA
Then VGA to gbs8200
https://www.tindie.com/products/chipnetics/modified-gbs8200-rgb-to-vga-converter/
I always recommend a scaler with motion adaptive deinterlacing so that games like Resident Evil 2 and Pokemon Stadium play without long black screen transitions. The gbs8200 is definitely more work to set up, but cheaper than a Retrotink 5x.
Get a multiport charger like the one you linked except DON'T CHEAP OUT ON IT. You are plugging in like $500 worth of stuff so why buy a cheap no name adapter? Get something from a reputable brand and I would get something with more ports than you think you need. I like Anker's stuff (I have one of their chargers with 2 Type C and 2 Type A ports and I have some of their car chargers) and have been thinking about getting this for similar reasons as you.
Unless you're a purist may I recommend a wireless brawler 64 controller:
https://www.amazon.com/Retro-Fighters-Brawler64-Wireless-N64-Controller/dp/B08TDZS8K5/
Sounds like a dirty contact issue to me. Clean the game and the cartridge slot and give it a try. I highly recommend 1UpCard's cleaning kit for the N64.
Hey man, great job and welcome to the world of modding consoles! I would suggest trying to reinstall with different wire that doesn't melt when you solder. I also started with the ribbon cable on my first n64 mod, and it's really pretty janky. Your insulation is way to far back and all the conductors are heavily exposed and at risk for shorting. Here's my first attempt and when I went and redid the mod after getting better at soldering:
https://i.imgur.com/M1Lhvvu.jpg
I'd also suggest silicone insulated wire as it won't melt when you tin. Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T1MR9C4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_FPFJSBF8QQD6DBST0C0W
clean the contacts on the game and your console.

Off of Amazon. They have a bunch of different characters
I had the same issue with a 4k tv, I bought these off Amazon and my N64 and Super Nintendo worked perfectly. You may just need the converter box.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AA8M630/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LE3EAIK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Unfortunately, the problem with sites like amazon, is many sellers will list 'generic' cables under the listing of some of the few good products.
For example, I've been using this for the past few years: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000067QIG/
Works flawlessly on my snes/n64/gc...
But checking back now, the seller I bough from is gone, and since then many more negative review have popped up.
This is a known issue with newer Vizio HDTVs, and the converter you purchased might be a dud unfortunately. I called up a local trusted retro games shop when I had this problem and the guy without hesitation recommended me/all of his customers this: https://www.amazon.com/Definition-Composite-Converter-Support-Upscaler/dp/B015MSBNZA/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
It's not cheap obviously but does a fantastic job upscaling on my Vizio 39" TV, no input lag and quality is really solid, not CRT solid of course but it's not bad surprisingly. There are plenty of other options on ebay and Amazon (some powered some not, some just convert and some "upscale," etc etc) but quality varies across the board as you'd imagine and reviews are sketchy at times..
I guess your options are 1) better converter, 2) find a CRT TV, or 3) find a different brand HDTV that plays your N64. My older smaller Vizio actually works perfectly so I would suggest browsing local craigslist/facebook marketplace, things of that nature and see what you can find...good luck!
I'm in the same boat with my new 4K LG OLED TV. Seems it won't accept an analog (composite) 240p signal. I also got a Denon X2400H receiver but it only upscales digital (HDMI) signals. grumble So maybe an analog to digital converter will do the trick? I'm considering an AVerMedia ET111 Composite to HDMI converter (Amazon). Unlike scalers which often stretch the picture to 16:9, this one simply converts it to digital. I'm hoping the TV or receiver will take a digital 240p signal.
The ones they sell on amazon seem to be just as good as the real ones. The only downside is that the plugs will not match the color of the controller. I replaced a chewed up cord with one of these and had no problems.
I think they're just different brand names for different regions, since I got mine in the UK rather than the US. The device I have looks just like the one in the video, and the box is the same too. Even the brands Tendak and Tensun sound pretty similar.
US Amazon actually has both for some reason. Weirdly the Tendak one has a slightly higher price.
https://www.amazon.com/Tensun-Composite-Converter-Upscaler-Nintendo/dp/B019T0WFA4/
https://www.amazon.com/Tendak-Composite-S-Video-Converter-Upscaler/dp/B00V2ULHBS/
I'm surprised you couldn't get a good picture out of an RGB scart console though. In theory that should be even better than S Video.
Assuming you’re NTSC, You’ve got a few options. The easiest would be to find an S-Video to HDMI converter on amazon, but unfortunately the quality of the budget models varies greatly, even among the same models. Wirecutter says the Monoprice model is good, but I don’t know how much testing they did with gaming in mind. What kind of TV do you have? In some cases, using composite directly to your TV may end up being superior to S-Video through a low quality converter. If price isn’t an object and you have more retro systems you want to use, you could look into an OSSC, aka the Open Source Scan Converter. If price is no object and you only care about the N64, then look into the UltraHDMI. If price is important but you’re willing to delve a little deeper, you might consider getting your system modded for RGB output, and then getting a set of HD Retrovision’s SNES Component cables. They work great with RGB modded N64 systems. Depending on your TV Model, they could possibly just plug into your component inputs and work perfectly! Definitely research that first though!
Finally, and I know this isn’t answering your question directly, but if you’ve got the space, the cheapest way to get the best quality from your S-Video N64 is to get an old CRT. People literally give them away on Craigslist, and the fact is these are the screens the N64 was designed for. Find a Sony Trinitron with S-Video and component, and you’d be set!
Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
I purchased mine from Walmart, but it looks like they don't sell this exact one anymore. This one from Amazon is almost identical just more of a brown finish.
I got the GameCube replacement stick from I think Amazon, but it is on eBay as well. Here are some links.
Not sure if this is still an issue for you but I'll chime in. All those "generic" converters that look the same are not created equal. I purchased one on eBay and I had the same problem you experienced with a dark output. I purchased another one on Amazon (link is below) and the picture quality was 100 times better, especially in dark scenes. Plus, the Amazon one had two additional output modes (480i and 480p) in addition to 720p and 1080p, and there is an onscreen overlay that shows what the output is when you switch modes. In addition the packaging and overall build quality was much higher than the eBay converter. The pictures on the Amazon listing are outdated, they only show 720/1080 for the output selection.

https://www.amazon.com/Tendak-Composite-S-Video-Converter-Upscaler/dp/B00V2ULHBS
best result i got so far were kitsh-bent replacement bowls and gears. some of the pieces requires a bit of sanding, but an OG joystick with lubricated kitsch bent parts is the best you can get nowadays. cost about 5$CAD for a kit, and requires 30min of work to install.
https://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/n64-joystick-gears
Second best were optical style joysticks on amazon.
Crappy 3rd party controllers. Try and get an original or at the very least a Retrobit Tribute Controller. I love the OEM controllers, but this has been great too.
The easiest thing is the $15 converters on Amazon. Works fine for me on a 55", gets a little squirrely on a 75" however.
Here's an amazon link to the AC adapter that should work:
It just needs to supply 9VDC with atleast 0.75Amp. Negative on the center, and it looks like a 5.5x2.1 barrel connector but may be a 5.5x2.5mm. It's hard to measure the center hole.
No prob! If you wanted to use hdmi, which can look a bit better for older systems on new tv's, you'd need somwthing like this upscaler: https://www.amazon.com/Tendak-Composite-S-Video-Converter-Upscaler/dp/B00V2ULHBS/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?hvadid=73942326373346&hvbmt=be&hvdev=m&hvqmt=e&keywords=hdmi+adapter+n64&qid=1552928904&s=gateway&sr=8-6&tag=msnsmartus-20
The red white and yellow composite cable would plug into one side of the box and an hdmi cable would come out of the upscaler and into your tv. This would upscale the aspect ratio to 720p and might look a little smoother on a newer tv. The best quality for older game systems is usually with an older crt tv, but those can be cumbersome.
Fwiw, the one I got works really well. No complaints.
It's possible that I just got lucky though.
In any case, the thing's like $10 and swapping it takes a few minutes. Worth a shot.
If you felt like looking into it, this is where I got mine:
Redesigned REPLACEMENT Joystick for Nintendo 64 Controller Repair N64 Thumbstick Pad https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009MRZAUC/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_XrHuwbWC4WVZB
Redesigned REPLACEMENT Joystick for Nintendo 64 Controller Repair N64 Thumbstick Pad https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009MRZAUC/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_QzKtwbD693TZQ
This is the one I got, and I have to say, it feels amazing. It's a bit more, idunno, sensitive. Little movements effect it more than the oem one. But it's very smooth. Highly recommend.
Evidently there's multiple versions, and the early ones evidently suck. So getting a "redesigned" one might be important.
If its wireless you have to have the Xbox 360 controller dongle. I have used the 360 controller with N64 emulation and it works great.
I'm pretty sure those are the same as the cirka controllers. The joysticks on them aren't great, and they're not easily replaceable.
I picked this one up for general retro gaming on the PC. The way it's designed lends itself to replacing 3/6-button controllers, NES or SNES equally well, even if it isn't exactly like the N64's controller. Can't seem to get the turbo to work properly though.
Buy this: VGM Gold Security Screwdriver Bit (Female Star) (3.8mm VGM Gold Security Screwdriver Bit) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FYIFNL4/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_JyTHvbJ23V58H (I have this exact bit, it's opened HUNDREDS of cartridges and still hasn't stripped)
Then use an ordinary PINK PEARL (don't cheap out) to clean off the pins. This works on any cartridge based game and makes the pins look and work like new.
There's a video on youtube that goes into better detail, but basically, blowing into your carts is one of the worst things you can do. Your saliva is creating a better connection temporarily, but in the long run its causing corrosion and ruining your games.
Hope this helps!
If you care that much about the picture quality, you might as well get an S video cable for your N64 and a compatible upscaler (I've heard good things about this one, but I play on an old CRT). S video separates the chrominance and luminance in a composite signal, which gets rid of almost all of the artifacts you'd expect from composite and looks pretty good on an HDTV. The upscaler is mainly there to make up for the TV's lack of an S video jack.
PS: Get the first party S video cables and do not, DO NOT get any like these that have a composite jack; those cables do not work at all.
You'll need to get an AV Composite to HDMI adapter if you don't have AV inputs. There's various places that sell them (like amazon)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2B9Z20/ref=pe_385040_30332200_TE_item
I have this one and it's worked wonders for me. There's cheaper ones, but they're much less reliable d:
I bought these ones from Amazon, have already used one in my gamecube.
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08SQJJJNK?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
hahaha. hopefully you'll get used to it (if you keep using it at least) :P
do you use mobile or desktop to get to reddit? RES for desktop makes reddit a lot better for me (on the old version of reddit, not the redesign)
I have this for mine and it works great. I know it's expensive but I play my N64 on the same 55" TV I have everything else connected to.
The HD Retrovision SNES cable does indeed expect RGB, because that's what the SNES outputs. It won't work properly with YPbPr.
Fortunately, this is an easy fix... or it would be, if Laser Bear weren't currently out of stock of the Wii multiout adapters. You could get one of those and an HD Retrovision Wii cable and it would still end up cheaper than buying the SNES cable. I would assume they'll be back in stock at some point soon, since they don't require any special parts to make.
If you'd still rather get the SNES cable (for use with other consoles, for example), changing the N64RGB back to RGB output instead of component is very easy, but it does require a soldering iron. You just have to un-bridge the solder jumper marked JP5. You can do that by just wiping away the solder with your iron (some solder wick makes it easier).
Imagine being so sad that you whine about the jabs and another post in another sub in an N64 section. have a biscuit
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08WPW7XVG?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image kaico adapter note though for pal systems svideo mode only works on the standard grey n64s.
Harvest Moon 64 is my favorite all-time game. Check out /r/harvestmoon and the GameFaqs boards. If you have any questions, you can even pm me. I just really like the game.
I only played the n64 version of THPS. I thought it was awesome but I might be looking at it with 15-year old rose-tinted glasses.
Some of them are advertised as being for TCL TVs like this, and I suppose that might be the best option.
The Wii's 480i over composite, and 480p only using component (Green, red, and blue video cables). It would definitely be a way to test if the cable adapter is working.
Most av2hdmi adapters aren't great, having issues with video quality, latency, and compatibility with 240p/288p video signals (somewhat nonstandard, but really common for older game systems). It's also quite possible that the TV itself only wants to work with 480i/576i and up.
Usual options: RetroTink2x, Rad2x, Eon Super64. There are some lower-quality (and cheaper) ones like the Hyperkin 3-in-1 or the SNES+N64+GC-to-HDMI converters (this one or similar). This is a fairly commonly-asked question. People write essays in reddit comments talking about details, going into other converters that I haven't mentioned, etc. I've tried to focus on the easier options.
I recommend buying these 2 and using them together on the same HDMI line.
I would reccommend the kaico brand specifically on amazon for lower latency n64 to hdmi on a budget. They have 2 models. A direct pass through which will work ok but looks worse for $20 or a really nice upscaler for $60.
> the power supply uses type A and I need it working with Type C
I'm unfamiliar with that exact terminology, but from context, it sounds like you either need to get a European power supply, or get a 220V->100V voltage converter and use the Japanese one. The first option is likely cheaper and more efficient.
> The connectors to the screen are also completely alien to me (2 yellow and 1 red)
More likely yellow, white, and red. Yellow carries composite video, white and red carry left and right audio. Assuming you're more familiar with SCART, you'd probably want a device similar to this (but bought through a more-local source).
> no memory card
Pretty easy to find. It's called a "controller pak". List of games that use it, vs have in-cartridge save methods: http://micro-64.com/database/gamesave.shtml
> and the "sacks" beneath the controllers
You're probably describing the rumble pak. They're an optional accessory to add vibration to games that support it.
> and the display to work with HDMI.
I mentioned the SCART option before. For HDMI, you can get crappy converters cheaply, or good converters for about 50x what you paid for the console.
> And will I stumble onto issues with it being a japanese console (region restrictions)
You'll be stuck using NTSC (North American and Japanese) games, and the NA games won't fit without a modification like a region-free cartridge tray. PAL region (European and Australian) games won't work on it, unless you get a device similar to a "Passport III Plus" (potentially difficult to find, expensive, imperfect compatibility).
Im in the UK and I got mine via an Amazon seller who is based in france...

Its still in stock now if you move quick :)
I use the same thing. It's a makeup display off Amazon.
I'm using these on my LCD TV and have no complaints:
Fossil Carlyle HR Gen 5
Watch face is Secret Mission
I've only ever used the watch with the face on, so I can't give an accurate battery life, but it lasts around 12 ~ish hours on good days (less on seemingly random days)
I recently bought this hdmi converter from amazon for $20 and it works great! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TGJZXWR?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
You don't even need to plug in the power cable, it does a straight hdmi conversion without it!
>Wait are you saying they released an expansion pak?
They did at some point: https://www.amazon.com/N64-Memory-Card-Expansion-Pack-Retro-Bit/dp/B00005B4Q7
now i think they just sell the terminator pak
Id be very surprised if its trace length, as cloners are able to replicate pcb traces very precisely - you can send a board off to a company and they can replicate that stuff with a great degree of accuracy. however that doesnt mean the quality/thickness will be replicated in manufacturing (make it cheap), which could lead to different resistance/heat distortion i guess (im not knowledgable about that though)
definite possibility of cheaper/refurbed components and modules being used too
the really tough thing is that i dont think there is a ton of motivation to use the pak - i have one and i rarely play anything that uses it and usually disable it if it does.
Last year i got him this and he got a really good laugh about it. I'll try and do something similar this year.
Dang, I bookmarked this post hoping someone gonna give you some suggestions.

I only know about this one
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Controller-Switch-Online-N64-Official/dp/B09KT1B7N3
that from what I read can be used on PC trough bluetooth but you have to jump trough some hoops.
Controller itself seems like is good but damn is it pricey. Main reason why I was hoping there exist some cheaper (but still good) alternative.
It was this one, but I don’t wanna recommend it too highly because I’ve been unable to get it to function with a controller pak, despite being advertised as compatible.
Saw a guy using this with a video on the 64 fb group. Seemed to work well
I'm a fan of this option https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08P4QRCY9/ref=twister_B091C9V2WC though the stick is a bit overly sensitive.
The Tribute is just awkward to me and the Brawler isn't great. I'm particularly annoyed with how they misaligned the A,B, and C buttons on the Brawler.
I'd use an original n64 controller with this adapter if it were me. Appears it is PC compatible too.
I ordered this one off amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058O8GRW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got the Espresso 27 shelf version. Here's the full name of the item: "Atlantic Oskar Adjustable Media Cabinet - Holds 756 CDs, 360 DVDs or 414 Blu-Rays/Games, 21 Adjustable and 6 Fixed Shelves PN in Espresso"
Do you need help fixing them? Can you solder?
I fix broken gamesharks as a hobby. There are a few ways to do it, but I do not recommend the serial port flashing as I could never get it to work. I desolder the eeprom chips and use a eeprom reader/writer to flash the original bin files back on, and solder them back together. There is also that saani/cart reader that could supposedly reflash a gamshark.
eeprom programmer (this one has everything you need to flash all different kinds of eeprom chips but you can get any that looks like this on amazon and it could be cheaper). I have a collection of eeprom bin files from all the variants of gamesharks I come across, but one of my 3.3 bin files works on all hardware variants afaik
Slightly cheaper on eBay. Don't know of any cheaper ones particularly worth recommending, though the basic EZCap clones on Amazon will work in a pinch. You'll also need a distribution amp if you want to play on a TV at the same time.
S-Video is when the luma (luminance) and chroma (chrominance/color) signals are separated rather than combined.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video
https://www.amazon.com/S-Video-Cable-GAMECUBE-Super-Nintendo-64/dp/B00HRJWCBC
I got this one for now as the retrotink is too expensive and the delivery time on the chinese clone (retroscaler 2x) was too long.
This set has the screwdrivers necessary to open any Nintendo product
There isn't anyone that sells these. You have to do it yourself. This is the cable I used. It's a little less flexible than oem but still workable. 550 paracord is what you need to fit over it. You'll spend about 10-20 minutes just to sleeve one. Getting the plug off is the most challenging part. You can view this video for the basic principle. Although I improved on this by using some pin metal extractors on the sides and completely drilling out the back clip first. It's very easy to crack the plastic and removing the back clip from the square hole makes it a lot easier to slide off. It can still be a pain though.
The rest is soldering it. You can splice it like I did or remove the pin from the pcb and solder right to the board.
I tried ordering two from Amazon, but after waiting a month, they never seemed to ship out. Maybe I was just unlucky, because they seem to have good reviews... but if interested this is what I tried to order: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo/dp/B08VNJ48M6/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?crid=ZDYVPDXQG5Z1&keywords=wireless+n64&qid=1654535712&sprefix=wireless+n64%2Caps%2C131&sr=8-7
I believe there is a way to connect switch controllers to PCs. What I want to use these on the actual N64 with these wireless adapters. https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo/dp/B08VNJ48M6/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?crid=ZDYVPDXQG5Z1&keywords=wireless+n64&qid=1654535712&sprefix=wireless+n64%2Caps%2C131&sr=8-7
I tried ordering from them but they never shipped out for a month so I had to do a refund
The N64 has pretty hot audio output. Sounds like it's too much for the Hydra, so you'd have to attenuate it somehow. You could use an inline audio attenuator like this one, but obviously that's going to be difficult since you're using a SCART cable. Another option is modifying the console or the SCART cable to add attenuation to the audio lines.
If you go the universal remote route, and decide to buy from amazon, this cheap Philips brand one is pretty solid, I have two. They're pretty good for major brands. Plus since that TV is a Philips you should be good.

I have this media shelf and it fits all of the N64 game library.
The highest fidelity cable the N64 can natively use is S-Video, the retrotink mini would have been my suggestion, but they are sold out, seemingly forever. So here is my solution for you. Use these 2 adapters in tandem
This will give you the same capabilities as the Retrotink mini
Thanks for replying :) Good point, I have noticed that too, but my AV to N64 connector has the 3 cables (red, yellow and white) and here I only find the yellow hole. I assume I need an adaptor? I have just looked at it and found this https://www.amazon.com/LG-EAD61273106-Cable-Composite/dp/B00L9I984G Do I need exactly that cable? Does this type of cable have a specific name? Does it have to be TV-brand specific? I have an LG TV.
It's about the same but the dead zone can be a little worse depending on manufacturing. It's still the closest. There have been others like this one but they don't have the same steps as oem. The Sharpshooter is the only one that does.
You can find an HDMI plug for a Nintendo 64 on Amazon for cheaper

We need to know!
Tributes are too expensive? They are $19…. I have one and it’s awesome.
I can't speak for the controller your asking about but I very highly recommend Retro Fighters Brawler64 controllers! I've purchased multiple, and love them. They're modernized versions of N64 controllers. I find them a million times more comfortable than regular N64 controllers, and the modernization feels very natural-- it took me very little time to adjust. You can get wireless versions too, but I have the wired versions. The wires are long and have been perfect for me.

I use this one. Maybe you can find something similar in your area. Doesn't harm the boxes, manuals or cartridge labels and easily removes dirt (not adhesives!).
