I really really hope it doesn't evolve into a aerial combat game, although it can be fun, I think it will lessen creativity rather than increase it. One of the best games that provides excellent fun but is still challenging that I continue to play is Air Transporter
Not a bullet or missile in whole game also there is nothing that even comes close in terms of a fully 3D game and if there is I haven't found it.
The devs mentioned 1st instances would be like firefighting I think
you must login to gumroad.
edit: https://gumroad.com/ go to the login and enter the email and pass you used to buy it the first time, after login go back to simpleplanes.com and hit the "buy" button to be taken back to gumroad and it will say download.
or find the first email form jundroo when you bought the game the first time, follow link and bam! you're flying
The same thing happened to me today, I was able to fully uninstall it using this, just drag the application from its folder into the window, make sure all the boxes are checked (including the crash report) and click delete. Then download it again from here good luck my fellow mac friend!
Edit: I would also like to know why this happened.
We've thought about custom levels by the users. We won't likely ever have the resources to make an in-game terrain editor. We have talked about allowing people to create terrains in Unity (free) which could be used though...no promises unfortunately.
Unity3D already has a terrain editor, so we wouldn't reinvent the wheel, and plus people could get experience w/Unity for when/if we add proper modding support :)
Try it out!

you need to have the https://www.reddit.com/r/SimplePlanes/comments/3479ql/simpleplanes_mod_support_pc_alpha_release_is/ which is on https://gumroad.com/l/SimplePlanes after downloading and installing
you press windows key and type in search box %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Jundroo\SimplePlanes_ModdingAlpha\Mods , save a shortcut to this location on your desktop or anywhere else that is easy to find for you.
copy/move the downloaded mod to mods folder
start simpleplanes and scroll down until you see a bunch of icons, click on the krazy mod to enable it.
press play
Here is a link to gumroad. Hit login on the top right corner and simplerockets should be in your library. Alternatively, search your email for a link they send out when the game is updated. Although, I don't think simplerockets has been updated since May.
On a side note, try /r/simplerockets for simplerockets help
It looks like Unity 5 (the game engine we use) doesn't support Mac OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) anymore...it does support 10.7 (Lion). Does your hardware support 10.7? I'm very sorry if you can't update your OS and play the game. If you are able to play the game on Windows, I could give you a copy for free. If not, we could give you a refund since you got it via Gumroad and could give you a free copy of SimpleRockets on OSX.
I'm sorry!
Sorry about not getting back to you.
I'm assuming you are talking about the OSX version?
If so, go to Gumroad and click the login button, and then click the "Library" button in the upper right corner (looks like an open book). It will take you to a page with all of your purchases where you can download SimplePlanes.
Android and iOS version will be at $1.99 at launch and will go up shortly.. the devs are pushing the launch date on Dec.12
the game is already available to buy on PC at $9.99
I second Notepad++ for a free XML (really an anything text-based) editor on Windows.
As far as XML modding, I keep referring back to this post by /u/WalrusAircraft: https://www.reddit.com/r/SimplePlanes/comments/3acdsn/modding_notes/ as a good starting point.
