This is basically what the Americans did for the 1932 'holodomor famine' in Ukraine.
The Hearst press (Randolph Heart was a nazi sympathiser) sent a man called Thomas Walker to Ukraine for the 1932 famine.
Except it turns out 'Thomas Walker' wasnt Thomas Walker and that he only spent two weeks in the Soviet Union during the wrong season for the famine in 1931(not 1932) and that his passport was only stamped for Moscow. In other words if he left for Ukraine from Moscow given the travel at the time he wouldnt have made it in two weeks let alone to Ukraine and back to Moscow.
This all came out in the 1930s when Thomas Walker was arrested for something else and it came out he used photos from the Austrian and russian famines after world war 1(1910s and 1920s) as the 'Holodomor famine'(1932). The US court case revealed him as an escaped convict called Robedt Green. His faked tabloid fraud spreading nazi propaganda.
This is all completely detailed in Douglas Totttles Fraud, Famine and Fascism
https://www.amazon.com/Fraud-Famine-Fascism-Ukrainian-Genocide/dp/0919396518
An incredible online article which references the above book and goes into detail on how this propaganda (that the soviets deliberately starved Ukraine...In the same way the west state Mao deliberately starved China after Mao and the communists ended the 100 years humiliation of western, opiod addicted rule) is this one
https://lorenzoae.wordpress.com/2017/10/11/on-russia-todays-liberals/
End of story right? 'Thomas Walker' is exposed as a fraud in an American court. Nope.
The degenerate West then used this story as anti Soviet propaganda for another 50 years. Robert Conquest in his Harvest of Sorrow consistently references 'Thomas Walker'.
Anne Applebaum ( a new historian) references Thomas Walker in a book out in 2019 called Red Famine

Basically they fight over something useless (Taiwanese/Chinese identity) that doesn't matter in the end anyway (both US and China won't allow them to disrupt the status quo), all the same time ignoring what's important, like their stagnant economy maybe.
>Phonetic writing system. Perhaps a syllabary like Katakana to encode foreign words more rapidly, and for foreigners to learn Chinese in an informal manner similar to the alphabetic systems they are used to.
This is a terrible idea that I hope (and I'm probably right here) will never happen. This guy highlights one of the reasons it would be terrible well:
>One often forgotten reason for all Chinese to be proud: We are the only remaining civilization to be using an original writing system created by our own ancestors.
> Even the Jews can't make this claim as written Hebrew is derived from Egyptian and Sumerian. Moreover, written Hebrew wasn't in common use with Jews until the founding the Israel in 1949.
>The rest of the world using alphabets are using a system borrowed from the Romans who borrowed it from the Greeks who borrowed it from the Phoenicians who borrowed it from the Egyptians and Sumerians. None of these civilizations exist today. The people who inhabit these regions today share no cultural lineage with their ancient ancestors and almost no genetic lineage.
>This continuity of language is more important than most realize. It means that we were here at the dawn of civilization, and we remain here to this day. Given how things are going, I think it's safe to say that we will continue to be here for some time yet...
Language is culture
>Laws and culture amenable to immigration.
I'm in favor of very strict immigration laws. Mass immigration destroys social cohesion.

Unfortunately Mongolia is another Vietnam. If you visit some of the Mongol forums, they periodically shit on Chinese people and basically a bunch of fear mongers fearing China will engulf Mongolia.
Basically the effects of Soviet propaganda still runs deep in Mongolia, after the Sino-Soviet split.

Edit: I meant the Mongol people, not the state. Mongolia as a country is on good terms with China, unlike Vietnam.
If you want to keep using OneDrive, you can encrypt your files with something like 7Zip.
As for alternatives, I personally host my own instance of Nextcloud on a virtual private server. The auto-sync is far superior to OneDrive, in my opinion. It's open source and I own and control my data.
If that is too involved, you can use a Nextcloud provider. I have also heard of Internxt in Spain that seems pretty good.
It depends on what you enjoy doing. Nightlife? Shopping? Hiking? Are you a foodie? If you want to avoid touristy areas in HK, avoid HK Island and stick to Kowloon. Especially avoid Temple St and Tsim Sha Tsui promenade.
If you enjoy nature, I'd highly recommend White Cloud Mountain (白云山). Even though it's a tourist attraction, it's big enough to get lost in and mainly frequented by domestic travelers. There's a tram that goes all the way to the top and you can even bungee off it. Entrance fee is only 5 RMB.

Thanks to the high-level commander paradigm Tencent developed, which keeps track of the overall strategy while depending on middle and low-level algorithms (or modules, in the case of TSARBOT 2) for unit-level management, the bots are far more human-like than the computer opponent.
And that means they aren’t just capable of beating the top difficulty level, they dominate it. Bot number two wins over 90 percent of the time while number one isn’t quite as effective at 71 percent. Perhaps more interesting, both of them showed the ability to beat platinum and diamond-level humans, but the humans won more games than they lost.

When a foreign country invades your country, you repel them and invade theirs. That's what I would call "avenge".
In essence, Japan got away with their war crimes. They weren't severely punished for it. Just look at the Japanese denying the "Nanjing masscre" today. Compared to the Germans who came clean with their actions.

The past is the past. Now, China has plenty of opportunities to create a better future.
Sorry I more meant the comparative wealth and abundance of China compared to just 25 years ago. That wasn't clear, apologies. China is a high-context society but the emerging generational differences are fascinating. I have talked to people who lost family members in famines and then had their daughter study in the UK, teach Chinese in Europe and then return to China to start a private business. The change is remarkable as well as disorientating.
Once again, I have never suggested that delicacies will disappear but rather than overall consumption of organ meat will decrease as China grows richer.
PSA: anyone who wishes to get good high quality drugs safely, learn to use Tor, Tails (or similar security-enhanced OS's) Bitcoins and find vendors on r/DarkNetMarkets. Buying drugs off street hustlers nowadays is a totally unwarranted risk. At best you'll still end up with a higher probability of being given poor quality drugs, at worst your life could end up in danger from interacting with these thugs and savages.

Not surprised. America has been underestimating China since the 1950s.
It has worked out for them. They should continue with it lol..
>If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.

You are right about aiding the recovery, but you're cherry picking.
America was complicit and/or directly caused genocide in several major East and South East Asian nations. Furthermore, they helped create the current disputes in the ECS and SCS.
Aiding recovery wasn't some act of benevolence. It was a geopolitical move. Money in exchange for military control. Look at NATO and Asian military bases. One corners Russia and the Middle East. The other corners China.
Coincidence? Probably not...

> clumsy but persistent
Reminds me of this: > The enemy is both strong and weak. “By a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak.”
The western media cannot admit that China is doing something competently, because that would put China in a superior position. Hence: clumsy. But simultaneously, China must be seen as a thread, even though China is "inferior". Hence: persistent. This kind of mental gymnastics is a propaganda technique that dates back to the days of nazi Germany and fascist Italy.
I find Super Chinese app is really good. It feels like playing a game where you have to either read out a sentence and it uses speech recognition to score you, assemble words into a sentence, match up words with their translations, etc. You can set up a target for how much you want to practice each day, and then you get scored at the end of each session. I've been practising with it for a few months now and been really enjoying it.

Censorship on behalf of the US government on Google, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube are a daily occurrence. They always use different excuses, sometimes its marking content as extreemist, as disinformation, foreign propaganda, locking content behind age gates, de-platforming users for vague unspecified reasons, or just shadow banning / de-listing content. The tools and methods go on and on, but censorship is alive and well in the west, we've just "outsourced" it to a group of unaccountable tech billionaires.
China's Bordeaux: winemakers in 'gold rush' to turn desert into vineyards
International wine giants and the super-rich are ploughing their fortunes into an arid corner of Ningxia region
Tom Phillips in Helan county, Ningxia province

> Less than 60 years ago China was gripped by one of the worst famines in history as Mao Zedong’s Great Leap Forward push for industrialisation devastated the economy and killed up to 45 million people. Since then, decades of dramatic economic growth have transformed the country – not just into the world’s second largest economy but also one of its biggest wine producers, with more vineyards than France.
> Now, the chateaux are springing up back home too, with Ningxia, an impoverished coalmining region south of the Gobi desert, becoming ground zero for budding Chinese vintners. There are 207 registered wineries in Ningxia compared with just one in 1983, according to Gao Lin, Emma Gao’s 72-year-old father and business partner.
> Gao’s reserves have fared better. Less than a decade after she imported her first grape press from Italy, Silver Heights produces about 60,000 bottles a year. They are mostly sold in upmarket restaurants and hotels in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. Walker describes her as “the best of the best” in China.
7 or 10 would not be useful in an actual war, since those islands are too small to do meaningful concealment and shoot-n-scoot tactics, those HQ-9s and ASCM could have being better utilized on the east coast (see page 27 of the report, hopefully those gaps in the defense network has being filled since). A surface action group centered on 052D and a few VLS equipped 093Bs that does regular patrols of the area would have better operational value.

Russia And China Continue To Forge Energy Ties
Mar. 14, 2016 6:32 PM ET
> The Russian pivot to Asia continues with a $2.2. billion deal between energy giant Gazprom (OTCPK:OGZPY) and the Chinese National Bank. The loan will help the Russian natural gas monopolist to finance its large infrastructural projects including the Power of Siberia, Northern and Turkish Stream pipelines.
> Gazprom is the latest in a line of Russian companies that negotiated a financial deal with Chinese financial institutions. Although the loan is relatively small considering Gazprom's financial needs, it is nevertheless important, because it represents the biggest loan to date from a Chinese lender. It will help the embattled Russian gas giant ease its financial troubles that came with the historically low gas prices. It will also aid in financing its large infrastructural pipeline projects, including the Power of Siberia and potentially the Northern and Turkish Stream.
> In 2014 and 2015, the two countries negotiated multi-billion deals to build the Power of Siberia and Altay natural gas pipelines. At the same time, Russian oil giant Rosneft (OTC:RNFTF) plans to pursue with deals worth $500 billion with China over the next 20 years. As a result, Russia might surpass Saudi Arabia as China's largest oil supplier.

U.S. and Chinese universities start construction on joint tech innovation institute in Seattle region
by Nat Levy on September 23, 2016 at 3:17 pm
Leaders from the University of Washington, Tsinghua University, Microsoft and other local organizations came together Friday to celebrate to kick off construction of the Global Innovation Exchange building in Bellevue’s Spring District.
The Global Innovation Exchange, or GIX, is a partnership between Tsinghua and UW to offer graduate technology degrees for U.S. and Chinese students. Microsoft is a key corporate partner and committed $40 million to the initiative last year.
GIX was first announced in June 2015 and launched this month, as nine students in the program started their studies at Tsinghua University. The GIX building in Bellevue’s Spring District will open next year and host 70 students, including the nine that are now studying at Tsinghua. It represents the first time a Chinese research university will establish a physical presence in the U.S.
The 100,000-square-foot GIX building will have design studios, a large maker space, electronics prototyping labs, and spaces for collaboration and presentations.
Students at GIX will have the opportunity to learn from UW and Tsinghua professors, spend time at each campus, and choose between the 15-month UW Master of Science in Technology Innovation degree or the 21-month GIX dual masters’ degree. The program is now taking applications for its inaugural fall 2017 cohort. The classes aim to break the mold for traditional technology education and train students in entrepreneurship, innovation, and user interfaces for connected devices.
GeekWire visited Tsinghua University in Beijing last year as part of our China trip, where we had a chance to meet GIX professors and learn more about the program’s philosophy and vision. We also got to explore the Tsinghua campus.
> "We are right to have a degree of caution about the role of large Chinese companies," Britain's Foreign Secretary had warned in Monday's Telegraph, "because of the degree of control the Chinese state is able to exercise over them in the way that would not be possible if they were large Western companies."
Uh huh. The American state has no control over American companies??

No one is saying China has a a full universal sufferage style democracy (which America doesn't even have) but nevertheless the Chinese state is democratic. China has elections on the local level just like the America, and when consensus is reached through consultation and surveys vs a winner takes all showboat elections. Ramin Mazaheri has a good explaination of this, essentially China's system has more people are involved and less people being ignored.
But even if the Chinese state is not democratic Chinese companies are very democractic compared to their American counterparts. Workers electing corporate boards is virtually unheard of in America, yet many Chinese company such as Huawei elect it's leaders have just that.

I'm also a paying customer, I will NOT be renewing. Recall this company started after the Snowden revelations and for them to spew this pro-ameriKKKa nonsense, all my trust has evaporated. Their VPN isn't the fastest either, I've been testing Ivpn, Azire, Mullvad, Air and they all perform better.
ProtonVPN has servers in different countries. But the main location - and the location of the servers of ProtonMail - is Switzerland. That is perhaps not the best option, although theoretically neutral, Switzerland collaborates with Western secret services. However, a service with encryption and a location in Switzerland is probably the lesser evil compared to using Silicon Valley products or services from another five eyes country. There has recently been a scandal with Crypto AG, a Swiss encryption company that secretly passed on data to the German and US secret services. So, the location in Switzerland should not be the basis oftoo much trust, but data protection is still better than when people directly use stervices located in the US.
I really find this disappointing. I am a paying customer (ProtonMail and ProtonVPN). About two years ago, I changed from GMail to Protonmail and started regularly using ProtonVPN in order not to give Prism/NSA easy full access any more. Of course, when they do such propaganda, that also diminishes my trust. I don’t think I would be too interesting for the US secret services, it is rather a matter of principle. I still think it is not so likely that they are a front for US secret services (some of their products are open source, they would lose most of their customers if it came out, and actually, I think if they really were a front for US secret services, it would be less likely that they would spew such US-aligned propaganda). So, for the time being, I will remain a customer. But I think it would be good if customers who are dissatisfied with them disseminating such propaganda could give them some feedback in which this is condemned. What do they even mean by „peacful protests“? Many of the riots instigated with the help of the NED are anything but peaceful, so those who mainly care about both peaceful protests and other peaceful activities should perhaps agree that it is important to take actions against violent riots and those who instigate them.

I've only seen this one book that touched on the subject https://www.amazon.com/Geography-Thought-Asians-Westerners-Differently/dp/0743255356
In Western psychology; thinking styles can be divided into Black and White thinking, Critical Thinking and System thinking (I'm not aware of even higher order types of thinking, but if anyone can point me in the right direction please)
I was wondering why the West have so much difficulties understanding Chinese people and Chinese culture; it make sense that Chinese high Philosophy uses System thinking (whereas the West uses mostly Black and White and Critical Thinking). Has anyone else noticed this?
However the modern West (mainly WASPs) now have reduced thir education system to only Black and White thinking. Other European countries who believes in education have produced a lot more critical thinkers.
> I have highly suspicion that the coup staged by Soeharto backed by Western countries
No need for suspicions, it's well documented that Washington was pulling the strings. In fact, there's a recent book on the matter that's just come out, it's called The Jakarta Method.
Not sure it's about this, but it made me remember this:
"France sent a warship to New York harbor in early August 1971 with instructions to bring back its gold from the New York Federal Reserve Bank. It was, after all, French President Charles de Gaulle who remained consistently skeptical about the US dollar, saying at a press conference on February 4, 1965, that it was impossible for the dollar to be “an impartial and international trade medium . . . It is in fact a credit instrument reserved for one state only.” (Cited in Benn Steil’s The Battle of Bretton Woods. Princeton University Press, 2013.)"
Yes because the growth in the recent decade was huge.https://www.amazon.com/Cultural-Revolution-Change-Chinese-Village/dp/1583671803 Yup, I am aware of Mao's achievements including the positive aspects of the Great Proletariat Cultural Revolution.
Traditionally, there have always been 2 lasting schools of thought in Chinese culture: The Sword and The Pen. I don't know why you think "Warrior Culture" is only prevalent in European cultures. That is utterly ridiculous and implies that the Chinese apparently don't know how to fight. The Art of War is probably one of the most influential books and its title alone should give you a good hint at what Chinese is all about.
Where are you getting this information from about China itself being readily assessable? Have you looked at a map of China? I'm all sorts of confused what your point is here but it seems like your insinuating some more nonsense about your "Warrior Culture" and the Chinese lack therof - which again is pretty unsubstantiated.
And the main purpose of this post:
There is speculation that Zheng He was not a peaceful exploratory force. Later texts reveal that Zheng He was charged with a mission to go and capture the Jianwen Emperor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jianwen_Emperor), Zhu Yunwen. Zhu Yunwen had more claim to the throne but was overthrown by his uncle. He survived and fled south, and Zheng He was tasked with capturing/killing him.
This would explain: a) why he was garrisoned with so many troops, b) why he continued to go time and time again, c) why the voyages stopped after the death of the Yongle Emperor.
After the Manchurians took over, they were in constant fear of the Han Chinese overthrowing their rule and thus limited outside contact as much as possible. There are theories that they actually limited progress in weapons/economy in order to better secure their rule over the Han Chinese.
>This played perfectly into Trump's hand. He knew she'd be defiant in being a woman and take that attack personally. He used her soundbites to wedge a gap between men and women voters. The male vote wasn't 2:1 for Trump because they were misogynists, it was because Hillary's words excluded their existence. Remember 'The Art of War'? It's all about divide and conquer. When did Hillary ever talk about men's issues? Never. While Hillary thought she was being stoic in protecting the woman card, Trump was actually playing the man card.
This is the stupidest analysis.
"Men's issues"??!! That's some righteous male chauvinist self-victimization routine!!
Yeha, they are "misogynists" if they seriously worry about "men's issues" in Murika.
What "men's issues" did Trump talk about?? The coming storm of the "Nasty women"??
and get this guy's last few lines: "Please send employment opportunities."
NOPE. Go talk about "men's issues" with Drumpf.
Oh damn I totally want that but a bit pricey so will have to go into my wishlist. Recently bought and read the Three Body Trilogy, one of the best novels I've read ever. I want more scifi books from China translated.
> Bro, time to learn Chinese in the meantime :D
I tried on many occasions but got really discouraged everytime, just so many characters to memorize. I have no problem imitating the voice overs and occasionally recognize a phrase or two when I watch Chinese dramas though. Maybe if I approach it correctly and dedicate more time to learning.
The most disappointing thing is though that my mom is near fluent in Chinese due to her mother who's almost full Chinese and speaks it fluently. For some bizarre reason she decided to only teach me her other native tongue instead of Chinese as well. I'm proud that I'm still bilingual, but she could have taught me both.
OP, if you are interested in China's urban planning, this is a fantastic, but super expensive, book: https://www.amazon.com/Beijing-Record-Physical-Political-Planning/dp/9814295728/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8
Not sure about scifi movies, but there's a book, The Three Body Problem that has won the Hugo award. The title refers to the famous three-body problem in physics, which is known for having no closed-form general solution. People around this sub generally agree that the original Chinese version is better than the translation, no surprise there; but many English readers I've asked say they still liked the translation. It also has 2 sequels, so it's a trilogy really. And they're coming out with a film adaptation next year.
I did a quick search on amazon with no results. This book has chinese edition in the title, so perhaps an English edition may also exists... somewhere.
>where literally every link is about how great China is and how the Chinese government is never to blame for anything.
Bullshit. There are plenty of links that criticize China from time to time.
>not merely the result of propaganda, but it doesn't matter;
Go ahead and debunk the points then. Don't just downplay FACTS.
You show a pew chart as if that means shit. LMFAO at your moronic ass. A better question to ask is why doesn't Vietnam want USA to die for Vietnam War. Why doesn't the Philippines hate America for http://www.amazon.com/Benevolent-Assimilation-American-Philippines-1899-1903/dp/0300030819/
things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
ohhh, I'm sure in your 'clever' mind, it's because of the FREEDUMMMMs

China needs to wipe out that disease permanently.

I partially blame the Western media for guys like him. They're told how great they are and how evil China is 24/7. I don't mind the ignorance as long as they reform after seeing facts, but that rarely happens. Good talking to you.

Here are the basics.
pedophiles/sexpats not welcomed (it really is insane when a pedophile is on the run from the West and finds refuge in Asia as a teacher around kids), bring something useful to qualify for migration (the same way Western countries brain drain the East), example of fake NGO is National Endowment for Democracy, Christianity is a tool for imperialism centuries ago and still is today. See http://www.amazon.com/Armies-God-Study-Militant-Christianity/dp/9833046096/
I know most films cast Chinese people. You're missing the point (shit portray of Asians vs decent portrayals of whites). Forbidden Kingdom 2008, Blackhat 2015, Flowers of War, etc.
The ads thing, I don't have time to look it up now. You may be right that it was a shitty company. I hope you're right.
I meant the sharpest form of political power of the WB is not through its development loans, but through IMF-backed sovereign bailouts (when sovereign states default on foreign currency debt). IMF and WB are formally separate but are in fact very tightly coordinated.
AIIB-type proposals have been floating around for a while, especially in the wake of the 1997 Asian financial crisis. The U.S. has reason to support the AIIB, as foreign debt defaults puts the U.S. financial system at great risk. However, the Treasury has long felt that the amount of political leverage the IMF (being a U.S.-dominated institution) gave it in the affairs of foreign countries outweighed the risks a single-lender system presented.
