Get this guy. Rotate it so it's blowing upwards and slap your helmet on top to dry it out/keep it cool between sessions.
No sunscreen on the face. If you sweat from your head while riding, the sunscreen in the eyes can be horrible and dangerous.
Eat salty snacks, and get a mister bottle that you can fill with ice water and a little peppermint oil. Combining this with a fan and drinking water will keep you cool.
This one is good:

Portable tire inflator . It is very small and portable, have had it for 2 years now and it gets the job done.
I use these for moving gas around:
Safety Siphon - The Original Safe Multi-Purpose Self Priming Pump By The Original Safety Siphon - 6 Foot High Grade Hose, 1/2" Valve https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BG1X54/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_CZMSW8N20TVM75C5T40Z?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
13$, works well. I suck the fuel out of the bike every race and put a certain amount in, and I have to pull race gas out and run pump gas through before I leave the track so I’m using it constantly.
Those mats you put inside shelves. Rubbery mat.
EZ-UP are certainly the most popular but I have one of these I got after reading reviews on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0033990N8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and get some of these to help keep it down: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000YPQPSW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
DO NOT buy an EZ-UP if you want your canopy to last in the wind (Just read the reviews on Amazon). Yeah canopies can be light, but those tend to buckle and break under wind because they don't have the extra beams for support. You want a professional grade canopy. I'll second the two recommendations already made here:
Caravan: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XDV7S6/ Eurmax: https://www.amazon.com/Promotion-Eurmax-Instant-Outdoor-Canopy/dp/B00FF34B0W
I used to sleep in the back of my VW GTI, it was a little cramped but I'm a little guy so it wasn't that bad. I also just purchased a 1 person tent from Amazon for $60 and a self inflating mat thing and that's probably what I'm going to use for my next event. It was super cozy and warm with just one person in it.
I bought mine off Amazon because I didn't want to spend a ridiculous amount on a suit either. I bought a 1pc Perrini Fusion. I can tell it isn't top quality but I have crashed twice in it without any injury and the suit has held up with minor scratches and zero tears. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay on the cheaper side. Also, the sizing was pretty spot on. Here is the link.
In a pinch, I have used one of these
You just gotta be careful, if you push to hard or stay on one spot too long you'll burn into the paint. Also, once you do this, you'll want to buff, polish, and re-wax the paint.
Data-logging:
Video comes from a GoPro and the overlay is done with Dashware. RaceChrono can export data in a format that Dashware understands.
This is the Mission thing I mentioned. Worn over the head (not face) and covering the neck, soaked in cold water. When I set out I even get chills sometimes because even hot air flowing through it promotes significant cooling.
60% of the time. I wear ear plugs 100% of the time.
But seriously, the majority of the time, I am wearing ear plugs. It calms things down. I'm able to considerate & be relaxed more. Hear my surroundings and vehicles. It quiets down the overload of sound to the ears and I don't get ringing in my ears after all day riding.
I like the green foam ones that are pair shaped. Get them at hardware store or online style I like
My go to https://www.amazon.com/Howard-Leight-Honeywell-Disposable-LPF-1/dp/B000RMFGGY/
Been using these earplugs for sleeping since 1994 when I worked graveyard shift.
Looks pretty similar to mine. I've used a 1 person tent that's basically this https://www.amazon.com/ALPS-Mountaineering-Lynx-1-Person-Tent/dp/B00BMKD1DU for years. I see this same model everywhere and I definitely paid less for it.
Two poles, through the top, and I can have it up in about 2 minutes. Down in less
Tarp, tent, then some variant of sleeping pad, air mattress, sleeping bag, and/or blankets inside.
Humidity will kill your leathers over time, so what is the climate like in your area and how that affects your garage environment? A couple of things for the smell - either:
1) wipe down with a vinegar solution, and rinse it off a few days later with a good leather conditioning product. The vinegar smell evaporates with the sweat funk smells.
2) use lots of baking soda on a dry suit, put it in a plastic bag for a week, then vacuum off all the baking soda - again treat with a good leather conditioner afterwards. Baking soda is great for absorbing bad odors and it is safe to use on leather.
To store hanging, not folded, use a cloth bag, my Dainese suits come with one but Amazon also sells this type of thing. Use one of these DampRid products to keep the humidity level low. Also, if it is going to be for several months, get some acid free tissue paper and wad it into the sleeves and legs to help soak up moisture.

Hopefully the first tips on getting the stank out will convince the wife the smell is gone and you can find a closet somewhere in the house to let them hang. If not, get her some kinky leather clothing for herself and give her such good sexy times when she wears them that Pavlovian conditioning takes over and she learns to love the smell of natural leather.
Get an evaporative cooling vest and put it in your cooler in the water, when you get off the track put that thing on and wear it until you cool down/it dries off or your next session. I also keep my gloves in the cooler(but I don't get them wet). Wear sunscreen, drink lots of water an stay in the shade as much as possible.
I'm also at the stage of "don't need telemetry, looking at seconds not tenths" and I run something like this for $50

I’m not home to take a pic on the bike. Also use this:

I use one of theses for the rear: https://www.amazon.com/Key-Bak-Original-Retractable-Stainless-Retraction/dp/B0088MQ6YG/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=key+back+retractable+keychain&qid=1655284724&sprefix=key+back%2Caps%2C276&sr=8-9 couple cable ties and it works just fine.
For the front just a cable tie does it. Of course it's not extremely accurate and you cannot do it the race tech way, but it gives you a starting point.
you can get them on amazon or from BW directly. They range from like 200 - $330 for the one with the largest drop.
> Dope trailer and sweet bike.
Yep, I was staring b/c I have the same-but-smaller bike and the same-but-larger trailer. Then notice the tie down location and snapped a pic.
I found him in the pits and suggested he mount it else where. He said his grips were loose and didn't want the ties to slip off. So I gave him a set of soft loops and suggested he thread them through the lower triple, like I do when not using canyon dancers.
I’ve used these and Amazon Basics. Amazon Basics was a little easier to peel off (neither was difficult by any means) but they are showing up to 2 months to ship.
I used the 3M pad that came attached to it. It's rock solid.
Prior to that, I used Sugru I000474, which is a moldable putty/adhesive. Once cured, you're never getting it off.
Check it out if you're interested in a 100% permanent attachment.

Look into a TRX and resistance bands, and also a exercise ball. This book on body weight training will get ya sorted.
Single leg balance, push/squat, and pull/hinge exercises will train your core to resist opposing loads (eg leaning off the bike.) Also kneeling on an exercise ball and performing rotational movements, unweighted or with a kettlebell (adapted from Kate Courtney’s workout for mtn biking.)
On that topic, most mountain biking routines will translate well to developing the muscles needed for track riding.
Hope you heal well and come back stronger!
I've been using this for two years: https://www.amazon.com/JACO-ElitePro-Digital-Pressure-Gauge/dp/B07VV78RZ1
It's $30. Repeatability is perfect and accuracy is within 0.2 of what the tire guy's gauge says. No reason to spend $100 on the Motion Pro. They all use the same chips to do the measurement.
Have any of you ever set up mucki or jwchat with openfire? I found a few other apps but I want to KISS as much as possible
This looks amusing but I just don't imagine people want to video chat with each other much on this site. Perhaps I could be wrong, that said I guess we could accomplish a similar goal with a google hangout? http://www.tokbox.com/
I put two bikes in my Ford E350 with Pitbull TRSs, all my gear inside, then a pit scooter on the back with a hitch carrier:
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2397747393887148/
You can find them beat up and filthy for ~$4k around here (Atlanta) all the time, but the well-cared-for among them (like mine) go for $5-6K. Insurance is cheap, and it takes up the same space as a full size truck.
Good luck!
I was only going about 30-35mph. I failed to fully commit to a corner. There was a manhole cover that I tried to avoid so I sat up rather than leaning harder. Got that target fixation so I went off the road for a second and and the front wheel got caught and high sided me. Of course I stuck my leg out and snapped it. I’ve been restoring a 73’ CB500 for the last couple years and had just put some new points/condensers/coils on that morning so I was paying more attention to the sound of the motor than I was to riding. It was that classic case of “I’m just going for a quick run” so I could listen to the timing/carb balance. I just threw on my Iron Jia’s which have minimal protection. Basically Vans with ankle padding. Buy good gear kids! You don’t have to be hauling ass to totally fuck yourself up. Luckily all my other gear did it’s job. Wish you a speedy recovery man! I’m 5 months out and still not walking well. I need to get serious about physical therapy.
link to a bit more info from my track day calendar.
SV 650, I picked up mine for about 3.5k from a former racer. Fully race prepped, extra wheels, rain tires, 3 boxes of spare parts, light weight wheels, 750 gixr front end, Penske shock, Spears engine work etc etc etc etc. LOVE my little bike. Dunlop Q3's last me 10+ trackdays and no warmers needed. Here is a quick api pull with google sheets. I am not sure what kind of format you would like.
Can you make one with a hanging hook in the front and a hook in the back like this one
A good leather cleaner & conditioner for the outside.
My suit gets hung up on this fan hanger when I get home.
And then tide fabric disinfecter for inside odors.
I got this one from amazon based on a recommendation from a buddy, we have both had no issues. Feels solid AF, as solid as one of these will feel.
BlueSkySea 2 Camera System I ended up storing most of it in the tail and powered by license plate light. The rear camera is mounted on the tail but only shows my back, so i gotta find a new useful mounting location for the second cam
You can get one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Exhaust-Muffler-Protector-Motorcycle-Universal/dp/B07HVY7JFP
Won't save it from a hard crash, but will protect it from lower speed drops.
I think the real question is if you think you can sell the current exhaust for enough money to justify the trouble swapping it out with something cheaper. If so, I say go for it if that's where your heart is. I'm with you in that I don't see the point in putting top shelf stuff on a track bike unless you're a millionaire that just doesn't care.
/u/naturaltanned, to add to this, I got this hockey bag b/c the moto-branded bags were all like 5x the price. I have transported it like a backpack at times and I love it. You could get a smaller one and have room for gear and some other stuff - and it's tall enough that the bottom rests on the passenger seat. Looks and feels awkward AF though
My buddies make fun of me for putting bolt marking paint on critical fasteners. (Good natured, we don't joke about safety)

Some of them are actual aircraft mechanics/engineers. They call it "witness mud". It is because I once left the garage with my rear axle loose.
At the end of wrenching I find that just touching each fastener with my finger tip is enough to jog my memory. It is only takes a few seconds.
Oof - I’m on a 790 Duke so I’m no as worried about fairings. I have a cheaper pair of aluminum sliders I’m going to bolt in: For KTM 790 DUKE 2018 2019 2020, No-Cut Frame Slider/Crash Protector/Guard, CNC Aluminum and POM (Orange+Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RGMZ4N1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_sXkdFbKRFJECH
The Ozark frames are a little flimsy but you should be totally fine.
I have been using a Eurmax bought on Amazon for the last 4 track seasons and it has held up great! https://www.amazon.com/Eurmax-Canopy-Commercial-Instant-Shelter/dp/B07GJ8WGTF/
Another option you could look into are those canopies that install to the side of the van so you just roll it out when you get there, thereby making the van sliding door more accessible. They are quite expensive however so probably not what you're looking for.
I like these straps. Anything without clips scares me.
1½" x 6½ft PowerTye Made in USA Ergonomic Locking Ratchet Soft-Tye Tie-Downs with Heavy-Duty Latch Hooks, Red/Black (pair) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F9DG650/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ODmBCb373X0MZ
Sure! Rebound damping issues can be seen by a raised section on the leading or trailing edge of your tyre tread. You can feel this better by running your finger over the tread and checking for a slight lump along the lip of the tread.
If the leading edge is raised, the rebound is too slow. Which means your shock or fork returns from being compressed too slowly. This is usually remedied by turning the rebound adjuster outwards to allow the oil to flow more freely. If the trailing edge is raised, the rebound damping is too fast. The fork or shock returns out too rapidly from a compression stroke. The rebound adjuster is usually turned inwards to increase the resistance.
In your case, the trailing edge is raised, so you will need to turn the adjuster inwards to slow down the rebound. I recommend 2 clicks at a time. Try it out, go for a good, hard ride and check, either the bump will have disappeared or your leading edge will now be slightly raised. Find the fine balance :)
I actually made an app that might help if you're getting into more track days :) I copy pasted the above from my app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nz.co.riderscorner.riderscorner
I have one of these brake guards on my race bike. I like to go cheap as these parts typically take a lot of damage in a slide and you can buy a few to keep as spares without breaking the bank.
as much as I hate hearing this, I do appreciate it, I had someone convince me it wasnt a big deal and i kept going... it only happened on one piston...
the previous owner put ASV's on her and I didn't have any problem with them...
So this stuff is the bees knees? you saying I can expect to feel a difference?
thanks for the input!
With warmers you'll probably be fine (i.e. no cold tire crashes), but considering the temperature and your pace, the SC2's probably won't give you any benefit over Q3s.
You could get one of those little laser temperature readers and test your tire temp right off the track. If you can't break 100 F, put the Q3's back on.
+1
I use these, which are similar to those linked. I like them so much I now have 3 sets; one stays in my trailer, one stays in my truck, and one stays on my lift table. Works with any bike from scooter to dirt bike to supermoto to track toy to tourer.
Way better than that canopy you posted is this.
I used one for a few seasons. Absolutely phenomenal. MASSIVE tent and if you have the canopy there anyways you just clip it in there. Everyone was jealous.
I got a cheap waterproof case and taped some rare earth magnets to the inside. The lanyard wraps around the steering column and magnets hold it to the tank. Works with my gloves that are also touch enabled.
Oh, not specifically trailer but a good buy was a Lasko 4900 fan. Pushes a lot of air without too much noise. And the two outlets on the side are perfect for low draw things like camera chargers
Which ones are you presently using? Those cone shaped ones you roll up? If so, I can't get away with those either. I use these

This is the ramp I use to ride my track bike into the back of my Silverado. A little tedious to set up with its 3 parts but it works like a charm.
Depending on what trackday org you normally ride with, there's normally a suspension guy there to help.
Virtually every racer I know pays the suspension guy to setup the bike. There's some very good books around to learn more about suspension setup (Race Tech's Suspension Tuning Bible is very popular, and I learned a good deal reading it), but in general, those books will help you communicate with the suspension gurus more than they will turn you into a suspension guru.
It sounds like the shock is stiffer, and causing the front end to lift by keeping the rear from squatting under heavy throttle. It's probably a good thing overall, but there's also probably a better middle ground to be had.
Are you running a steering dampener? What bike is it?
I use an external bluetooth GPS receiver with my phone...10Hz refresh rate as opposed to a phone's typical 1Hz. Receiver zip tied to the bike, phone tucked in my leathers. I don't want to see times and such while I'm riding, so I'm fine with it in my leathers. Crashed with it in there last year, no problems. I used to tuck the receiver in my leathers as well, but being mashed against a sweaty meatbag will sometimes introduce GPS drift as it loses lock with some satellites...so now that's got a home on the bike with a less human-obscured view of the sky. I use RaceChrono on Android.
Reasoning was basically the same as you -- I wanted to see sectors and get telemetry, both for my own learning and to sync over onboard videos with Dashware. That and those standalone units are way more spendy than I wanted.
Results have been great, better once I figured out I needed to get the receiver out of my leathers.
Also...have you RES tagged as the guy who crashed at HPT ahead of me last year. Glad to see you're still at it. :)
I honestly use this mount, you can bolt it to anywhere and it's very sturdy.
I bought these for $10 each (top and bottom) on Amazon. Looks like they are $15 each now. I've used them for 1 race weekend so far and they are holding up well. I'll check back in May to see if they continue to last.
Sort of tangential to your post, I find using this minimizes the smell:
Underwater Kinetics HangAir Drying Systems for Wetsuits and Drysuits https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011G1F8S/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_bwbLwb33YNJ4R
Also.. pick up your tires!
thanks lol. Dave Moss (on youtube/fb/app store) is a big help, also nice that he's at almost every track day/race weekend i go to. this book is a good intro book to learn the basics of setting up a bike for your weight, baseline damping settings, and what to look for to know how to adjust it and make improvements.
I rode for a year on stock suspension before upgrading, but no matter where you are at, the suspension will really help your riding. definitely do it as soon as you have the money to blow!
I've heard good things about skratch labs stuff, I am going to try that in place of gatorade... and apparently drink about double the water haha.
I've been using this and the associated other pieces for under my leathers and also under my normal gear on long road trips where I don't expect to need to have the gear off until stopping. It kept me cool in the middle of Death Valley in July, pretty impressed with it. You can soak yourself in water and ride along with it and it wicks nicely.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F8D646I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Outside of the normal stuff, I've started bringing a blow up mattress and a few pillows. Clutch for spectators or even yourself between sessions. I use this one now and it works better than others I've tried because it is 'double high' and can be used as a bench seat also.
