'Sporting Houses' and saloons galore. Conveniently close to the Mexican Army barracks.
Tucson must have been a pretty wild place in those times. I'd love to have a good print of this.
Edit: So I wanted to know more about George Hand, the maker of this map. Apparently he kept a detailed daily journal which ended up being many volumes in length. The contents have been microfilmed. Based on those diaries is this book:
https://www.amazon.com/Whiskey-Six-Guns-Red-Light-Ladies-1875-1878/dp/0944383300
I really want to read it, but $46.00 seems a bit steep.
I believe it's already posted to NextDoor.com and to PACC, just signal boosting. They are harmless idiots. They may answer to Sokka and Katara or they may just assume you are a sheep and try to herd you. Just herd them right back. If you find them, let me know and I can help them get home.
This is from an episode of Top Gear about making cycling PSA’s. It is pretty funny, they are joking, Cyclists, don’t take it too seriously. Top Gear Cycling
As the others have pointed out, it can still be above 95F at 8pm. However, since the sun is down, it doesn't feel that hot. Some of my favorite summer memories in Tucson are going out to the bars in the evening and sitting outside in the hot weather. Additionally, it can be in the 80s if a monsoon passed through that afternoon, which isn't uncommon in mid July.
WeatherSpark is a great resource for this type of information.
Pump sprayer and a $40 concentrate of Demand CS. This is the same stuff used by pro pest control. This is the only way I got rid of scorpions (by killing their food supply). It’s about a Tbsp of concentrate per gallon of sprayer. Spray whole perimeter of the home and door thresholds. Behind toilets and any indoor crevices. Demand CS Amazon
How about Geocaching? There's tons around town that don't involve hiking in the crazy summer heat, and you might find areas/art/history that you never knew existed in town!
Audubon Society has a buyer's guide here.
I own a pair of Vanguard 8x42 Spirit ED, which I caught a sweet sale on. I bought these for astronomy, but they are compact and great for general purpose daytime stuff as well.
(Speaking of which, if you're coming from someplace with so much light pollution, Eastside is a place in which you would be well advised to get a pair of astronomy binoculars and take up backyard astronomy.)
Binoculars using Chinese "BAK4" glass, while not as good as true Schott BaK4 glass, are still quite excellent for normal people and priced well.
Check out this link to weather underground:
Scroll down to the 10 day forecast. You can see the temperature profile of the day by passing your mouse slowly over. The LOWEST its going to get this week is 76. Click on hourly and you can see more detailed temperature profile, the sun sets around 730PM here, and its still 95+ outside. Notice the pattern how the coolest is RIGHT before the sun rises.
Now Check out this link for the month of July:
You can see the average, and the records. This year has been pretty hot so expect somewhere between average and record highs. No telling what the lows will be for July from that link...
Just an idea. Everyone else's info is good too.
Agua Caliente Park is one of my favorites if I just want to relax and have a change of scenery. The water there often makes it a bit cooler outdoors, too.
I've camped at bog springs and have enjoyed it every time. With that said, for my personal preferences it'd be a little too warm for comfort this time of year and would rather go higher up in elevation; you're still looking at temps in the 90's I would think.
There's a WUnderground weather station closeby that would be a good reference: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KAZGREEN15; it shows a high of 95°F at 59% RH yesterday.
I agree with /u/averedge 's assessment of Tucson, nothing like any of the big cities I have lived in. Have you spent much time in Tucson? One of the things you may like comparatively is last year we had 284 days of sunshine leaving only 81 days a year of clouds. According to this it rained 71 days last year. So its basically sunny with bright blue sky unless its raining. Tucson has some of the easiest winters I have every experienced but the trade off for that is the heat in the summer (we reached an extreme of 117f or 47c this summer for the first time in 20 years but it is possible). The humidity stays low most of the time so that helps to make the heat more bearable. Public transport here can be very hit or miss. Follow /u/averedge 's advice and scope out the suntran maps for the areas you want to live in. bicycling can be an option much of the time as well.
Like others here, I have had trouble with pumice scratching the porcelain. Only thing I've found that works well is Shaw's Pads: https://www.amazon.com/LASCO-11-1180-Remover-Scouring-16-Inch/dp/B008RHK1WU/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=shaws+pads&qid=1644468655&sr=8-2
Get yourself a Parabolic Heater. They work insanely well.
Turn them on high and within 30 minutes you'll be nice and toasty.
In the park just North of the Pima Animal Shelter on Silverbell there is a spot where people are constantly flying their planes:
Looks like a screen cap from weather underground, although if you click the link it looks like the rain forecast has already been really scaled back..
If you're military, Motel 6's are inexpensive and often give a military discount. Outside El Paso, I've stayed there for $25 a night. I'd let you crash with me, but I literally have no room right now; not even floor space.

>The funniest server name story I have is from when I worked at the Kennedy Space Center. On our particular project, our main server was named snowwhite, and the 7 client workstations were named after the Seven Dwarves. The kicker is, one day one of our engineers ran into a Disney Imagineer who worked at Walt Disney World, and they started talking about server names. The Disney Imagineer said "that's funny, we have a group of servers named columbia, challenger, atlantis, and discovery."
Will you guys be selling direct to consumer? And how long 'til I can taste? :)
edit: I don't have a facebook account so I can't participate there.
Amazon sells these stick-up paper blinds.
I've used them in two houses now, Just attach them to the windows and optionally put a curtain of your choice in-front of them.
Antique Cherry Dining Table and 6 Chairs for $400. It's a Willett drop leaf table and in great condition. It doesn't match our other furniture anymore but I love the design - Fully expanded it'll seat 8 but can fold down seat only two. I can send post actual photos of the table if anyone is interested.
Honeywell portable evaporative cooler for $50. Used it for a summer and moved to a new place where I didn't need it.
I also have an older Vision Fitness commercial elliptical which hasn't had much use. Make me an offer - I'll sell it for cheap. I don't want to give it away but the thing is crazy heavy and I'm tired of moving it around the house.
I'm over on the east side of town - Houghton/Broadway.
Here is a temperature chart for Tucson, basically as early as you can. Early morning temps are lower than evening and I can't remember what time it closes. I walk in midtown(flat ground, little shade) from 7:30am-8:30. By 8:30 it is getting too hot for me.
I've the water story too, dated a girl from Long Island. I don't buy it, my belief is that it's the over their cooking in. As bread cooks a chemical it gives off ad-hears to the wall of the oven. Better bread comes from older ovens, and older ovens have higher concentrations of this chemical.
If you want to know more about regional differences in Chinese food I highly suggest this TED talk http://www.ted.com/talks/jennifer_8_lee_looks_for_general_tso.html
That stuff does happen though, more in Phoenix, Tucson tends to be 5-10 degrees cooler. https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/its-so-hot-in-arizona-that-street-signs-and-mailboxes-are-melting/359245
The warnings and stories sound over the top and extreme, but that’s because the heat is extreme here. It’s hot and dry enough to kill people and animals - seriously, a few hikers die pretty much every year because they underestimated the heat and/or how much water they would need.
Having moved from the midwest and northeast, it takes a big adjustment in expectations. There, I kept blankets, kitty litter, and a shovel in the car over the winter, here I have a 5 gallon jug of water and sunblock in the car year round, and take a large bottle of water everywhere.
There's an upper-level low situated over the northern part of the Baja California peninsula that's bringing warm, moist air from the south.
Meanwhile, there's a broad upper-level ridge over the western United States that's bringing cool, dry air from the north.
These air masses are colliding over southern Arizona, causing the warm, moist air to ascend and condense into clouds.
Here's a diagram to explain this.
Here's a link to the animated version of the wind flow at 24,000 feet above the surface.
I've been a member of the Tucson Backpacking Meetup group for a decade now, and have greatly enjoyed my trips with them. Tucson seems very rich in Meetups, you can find a group for just about any interest.
FWIW, I am not affiliated with Meetup.com in any way, just a happy user.
When you make it out here and get a little homesick, check out Kenney D's. Awesome Italian Beef, very authentic.
Also, jobs.
I am playing a free show this Saturday at Dante's Fire - 2526 E Grant Rd, starts at 9 PM.
Probably big things that most people find difficulty bringing with them if they're out of state students. Study desk, bookshelf, ping pong tables... shoe racks... also if you could make a vertical bike rack that would be pretty sweet (kinda like http://www.instructables.com/id/Vertical-Bike-Rack/). I would definitely buy one of those.
We have a FB group too! Not sure if you know about it!

Theres a meetup tomorrow at alex's place. Also, if your awesome, Im having a kickback at my place next weekend.
It's typically cooler than the cities at it's base, but that doesn't mean bring less water or sunscreen. Also check the weather before you go, it has a chance of thunderstorms and rain this weekend and Monday.
Hands-down, the best place to get a huge variety of mixed six packs.
Not on the south-side but near downtown.

A pretty generic list of to-do's, but there are some great places to hike on that list. My favorite is Seven Falls, but I'm not sure it's on the list. Once you get settled in town, I'm sure friends and coworkers will have other suggestions for you.
It's not hard. Just get the car and drive around. It's really really really simple. It just takes time.
http://www.ehow.com/video_3234_drive-car-with.html
Watch this.
Then just go out and drive around your neighborhood. It'll take a few weeks but you'll get it eventually. It'll mean a lot of stalling and a lot of embarrassing moments at intersections (where if you mess up you gotta restart the car) but you'll learn it eventually.

This one isn't by Putin, but Amazon is now recommending me this gem 😂
The description is great. I kinda want it.
They work great. Just get a five gallon bucket with a lid from Home Depot or Lowes and a grabber with at least a 40" or so of reach, and you'll be equipped to deal with them humanely.
Something like this would work well:

You're free to pick whatever suits your fancy, though!
Got home last night and my walkway looked like a furry moving carpet. I've been spraying a 1:1 water vinegar mix, plus a few squirts of dish soap on them. Kills them, but does nothing to prevent new ones from coming inside. I'm on amazon right now looking at pesticides and sprayers. I'm considering this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ARKSC4E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
You can use this right after cutting. The stump will heal pretty fast so you'll have to make another cut and pour some of this on the fresh cut.
I reccomend checking out “the snake fence” if yall wanna prevent it from happening again. Choose the size ya want and super easy to install. Family owned company!! Stay safe, glad everyones okay!!!

I have ADHD and speeding is not associated with the disorder, yes forgetfulness and not remembering dates of important things I can completely relate to because ADHD causes serial procrastination. Now just saying "fuck-it" to the tickets might be because of the lack of attention span but speeding... nope.
You quit speeding because you grew up and matured beyond being a stupid reckless driver who didn't care about the safety of others, I congratulate you on this because some people are just assholes for life.
How do you have a license if you have $4k in fines in Arizona?? Find a QUALIFIED lawyer in AZ that can handle this for you, the cost of a lawyer will be far far less than paying face value for these tickets if they can work anything out. It is possible that they could tell you that by failing to appear you forfeited your right to contest the fines but only a good AZ lawyer can tell you that.
Congratulations on turning your life around, if you need further help I recommend the "Total Money Makeover" and going to "Financial Peace University" with your wife, this will change your life for the better and I have never ever heard one person regret this decision that actually followed the plan. I went from $30k in debt and horrible credit to paying cash for my dream motorcycle and having more money in the bank/401k than my parents.
I "grew up" on the ANSI 2nd Edition of The C Programming Language. I've always secretly wondered what's so special about K&R syntax. ;) But it's certainly a cool book to have.
It's difficult to tell from the pictures what exactly is there -- do you have any Lisp books? Or anything along the lines of "Advanced Programming in the Unix Environment" or Kernighan & Pike's "The Practice of Programming"?
Buy one of these for your shower, it might help. Tucson has really hard water.

Not always, they have a special device that they have to use to check the lines so sometimes the techs can't be bothered if they believe they have found the culprit elsewhere. It would kind of look like this
The netgear modems are not brilliant in my experience and I would actually recommend this guy
Bashas ??
Definitely Amazon ..Glazed fruit
The lower falls is longer. 2 hours max. It's a tricky hike. If you really take your time, it's easy. If you rush, you may get hurt. Slick areas, but definitely worth it. Length is 1.9 miles but feels like 6.
Link from the All Trails AppAll Trails App
Agreed, and I've found their 10-day forecast graph especially useful.
Their mobile app is also pretty good, but IMO still hasn't caught back up to as good as it was before IBM took them over and apparently rebuilt the app UI from scratch.
Just FYI, I'm pretty sure all the regular car washes recycle most of their water. It gets filtered and used again. Obviously, some is lost, but it's probably more efficient than doing it at home.
Also, there are some good no-rinse car wash products that save you at least some water.
Tucson makes an amazing hot sauce, but so far I've only been able to find it on Amazon. Here you go!: https://www.amazon.com/High-Desert-Tikk-Hot-Masala-Sauce/dp/B09214BC6K/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2Q1SJEDNQC72V&keywords=desert+high+tikka+masala+hot+sauce&qid=1661976350&sprefix=desert+high+tika+masala+hot+sauce%2Caps%2C117&sr=8-5
I've made cheesecake with this recipe: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/lemon-dream-cheesecake/
I substituted prickly pear juice for the lemon ingredients, it came out looking like Pepto bismol and tasted faintly like berries. It was so delicious. I'm going to try using more of a syrup this year to make the prickly pear flavor stronger.
This cookbook has a few other recipes, like ice cream: https://www.amazon.com/Cooking-Wild-Southwest-Delicious-Recipes/dp/0816529191

I sent this along to a fellow redditor who enjoys beer in the Tucson area. Hopefully you can get a few people together.

is what i got from a local company, but don't remember the name. never saw anything grow.
So this was a daunting process for me personally given how many options there are. I decided I wanted several features:
I ended up with the Kingslim D4 front (4K) and rear (1080p) dash cam for $99. Also got a Samsung EVO Select 256GB microSDXC card for $40.
It plugs into the car 12v port or you can get a hardwire kit to connect it directly to your car's battery. It records and writes to the memory card in small 3 minute segments. I downloaded their app to transfer video via wifi but it was honestly pretty unreliable the one time I tried it. Transferring by memory card seems to be the best way to extract video. I'm sure more expensive units probably have better wifi adapters for better transfer of videos. But overall, pretty happy with the quality and especially the price point for this one.
It wasn't published as an ebook at the time but now it is :) she's very excited about it
Yeah, I noticed a lot of them are black - ugh!! I was looking at the these bc they come in beige. They're made of HDPE, so they're basically the same material as the shade cloth you'd use in the backyard. The MSDS for it essentially says it's okay up to 120F. I guess that means they're okay to grow food in...?
I don't have a big garden .. I tried to grow a few eatables like peppers but they liked them too. I might try the coyote urine granules 5 pounds for $30 from Amazon. That certainly should be enough for a couple of summers. The squirrels also drink from my birdbath. I seldom see them as they are nocturnal. Urine Granules
My mom had a house where the deer constantly at her flowers. She found things they didn't like and planted those and everyone coexisted nicely.
On the shower subject, I also installed one of *these adjustable flow restrictors: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RM23LTR/
It's great to be able to change it on the fly. I usually keep it pretty low, but guests can have normal water pressure without much fuss.
You can put a vanity plate there instead.
I find this one funny if you want a suggestion. Just don't put an old license plate there.
You can get San Francisco famous Boudin from amazon believe it or not!
Depending on how much rain we get mosquitoes can be an issue. And as you may know some people smell tastier to mosquitoes than others. Last monsoon season I could not walk outside anytime around sunset or later without being devoured. Upgraded to a picaridin-based lotion and it’s a lifesaver for me.
I had to buy this for my feet. I'm kinda thinking about rubbing it into my face. So many flakes. So many itches.
You can always get a cassette adapter that will let you plug into your phone's headphone jack (if it has one) to play your music on your car's cassette player. There is also a bluetooth version of the cassette adapter that lets you connect to your phone to play your music as well.

I wanted to sneak this into work before Covid.
Hi! Yeah, as I said—I’m super liberal and really hate talking this place up. I wouldn’t go as an adult just to wander around, but I do think it’s the kind of learning experience that kids aren’t going to get elsewhere (honestly, probably for the better, I’m glad there aren’t tons of places like this all over the country!), and can be used as an experience to ask questions, discuss hunting animals, etc (which is what we do).
Do you know if they’ve added new animals “recently?” I’ve been under the impression they were all trophies from some old rich dude like in the 70s or 80s, with nothing really being added since then. Any idea if that’s true? Being a Tucson native, I’d obviously been as a child myself (school field trips, and whatnot), and when I took my kid like 5 years ago, everything seemed 100% the same from what I remembered as a kid.
Thank you for posting this additional information, people need it to make their own decisions on if it’s something they want to give money to.
The fact that there’s pretty much always a Groupon ($13/two people, $25/four people, https://www.groupon.com/biz/tucson/international-wildlife-museum) definitely helps, and I feel like they must need it to stay afloat, which I find satisfying.
If you go to this site you can track things in pretty much real time. Just click on the map for the area you're interested in
https://www.wunderground.com/maps/radar/current
I wouldn't get any big hopes up about there being a monsoon season. Everything seems off the table w/ the weather and everything else these days.
wunderground.com has historical data, here's what they have for May 2019: https://www.wunderground.com/history/monthly/us/az/tucson/KTUS/date/2019-5
Pretty moderate, IMO. Anytime it doesn't hit 100 before June qualifies as a mild spring in my book.

You have to get started early this time of year, but there is a lovely network of low desert trails in a very healthy Sonoran ecosystem that begin at the eastern end of Broadway and eastern end of Speedway. It is in the foothills of the Rincon Mtns, which are in Saguarro National Park.
You'll want to download/print a map, or get a trail app for your phone, it can be a little confusing even though all the trails are labeled with signs (I use Alltrails.com). You can put together walks of almost any length. Here is a nice destination in that area. This time of year, you'll want to pretty much start at first light (5 or 530a) and be wrapped up by 8 or 9am.
On the west side of town, also lots of very moderate, easy trails in the Sweetwater Preserve.
Normally, this time of year, the wise option is to drive to the top of Mt. Lemmon and hike cool, forested trails, but that entire trail system and most of the forest just got completely obliterated in a massive historic wildfire, and it is all closed down, and the forest won't be back in our lifetimes, or maybe ever.
Hikearizona.com is kind of a clunky website, but if you can get used to it, is a great resource for trails, with lots of trip reports and descriptions, as well.
Depends how much of a hiker you are. I stick pretty short with my wife. There's longer ones that go up the whole valley, but this was really cool: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/arizona/echo-canyon-trail
You can literally learn tocode for free if money is the issue. I never did because I am horrible at self-motivation, and prefer to a more traditional learning environment(E.G. teacher babysitting me telling me what to do). I would also recommend New Horizons.
Get a 1 gallon sprayer. Add a few drops of peppermint extract to water and spray. Will need to reapply after rains or every couple of months.

If you have municipal water, it's fine or you would know it. However, if you want to know, you can buy your own tester for relatively cheap. Here is one that tests TDS and pH for about $15. Yes. 5 heading south west. Up wilderness of the rocks north East. Back through aspen north north west. It was a blast. I prefer to do it that way vs the reverse because going down 5 is easier than back up.
Check out this trail on AllTrails. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/arizona/mount-lemmon-trail-5-aspen-trail-93-loop

Some of our biggest members are people who saw us and said hello. We already have about 40-50 games (our BGG collection is here, although one game owning member refuses to join so there's another 15-20 games) so you don't need to bring anything but yourself.
Honestly I'd Google for a trail there. I can also upload my bike route to it in the morning but a quick search showed me some meetup that hiked in a totally different way. Looked like they came in from Italian trap down the creek or something. The mountain bike route I know is all on jeep road and I want to say about 4-5 miles one way.
EDIT: OK, it's exactly 4 miles according to this guys map to hike the jeep trail. Also, I can see that it's possible to come in off of trail number 37, Italian Trap. Looks like you would start on the AZT and bear right at some point. But maybe save it for the second try so you know what your destination looks like. :)
I say for the meetup after the next meetup(because I assume there will be one in june), we should have it at my place.
Im having a house-warming/birthday party(for me!)/reddit meetup at my new house on the 23rd of July. Everyone is invited!

We get these threads pretty often, try searching the sub for more suggestions. Make a post again when you have more specific questions. There is a crime map in the sidebar to check out areas to live - look for trends not specific activity.
Public transportation is passable, but gets worse the farther you get from the metropolitan area.
For skilled work, our major employers are Raytheon, the University, and health related fields. On the other end, there are a number of call centers always hiring. We also have a decent foodie scene, lots of local restaurants, lots of events that focus on them.
For 9 months (once acclimated), the weather is amazing for whatever you want to explore here.
What are you interested in?
Tumamoc: you basically just park in the hospital parking lot, or along the side of the road if you're feeling lucky.
Hidden Canyon Trail: Same deal except the parking lot is the Marriott one and along the road is the road that leads around to the front of the Marriott. It's probably easiest to enter from below and park on the top level of the parking garage.
Alternatively, you can drive to Anklam and Camino de Oeste, turn south on Camino de Oeste and take it to the end of the road where the Yetman trail head is. Then you hike up the Yetman wash for about 1/2 a mile or so and bear left at the T junction towards Hidden Canyon trail. If you go that way, it looks like this:
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/93306325
It's a short hike either way—between 2.5 and 4 miles.
Well, I will say there are frequently a lot of tiny frogs there in the summer… You drive about 7 miles up, park and it's about 4.5 miles in on jeep roads.
Blackett's Ridge immediately comes to mind off the Sabino Canyon Trailhead.
Agua Caliente Loop is a bit longer but still doable in an afternoon
I lived in Tucson for about 8 years for college and post grad stuff. I loved every second of it. The weather is great, bars are cheap and you can bicycle everywhere. I never owned a car while I was there and it is very easy to get around. You probably want to live close to the university and downtown. Everything you need is around that area. I lived in a nice apartment complex on the west end of downtown and it was great. It is called La Entrada. As for cycling, you cant beat it. Tons of cycle paths and great rides into the mountins. My personal favorite ride is out to the west of Tucson over Gates Pass and down to the Desert Museum. Here is the route and feel free to creep my strava profile for other good rides around Tucson. Mt. Lemmon is a MUST to cycle up. Constant gradient the whole way. It is not too hard. Enjoy!
appears to be three or four. from a simple search:https://www.bing.com/maps?form=MOZLBR&pc=MOZI&q=Laundromats+that+take+card+in+tucson
And a little cooler this time of the year. If you are looking for a drive, check out Kartchner Caverns. It's on the way to Sierra Vista, why not make a day out of it and check out the hummingbird observation area http://www.visitsierravista.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=view_template&id=6526 and then hit up the German Cafe for Lunch/Dinner http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g31357-d334858-Reviews-The_German_Cafe-Sierra_Vista_Arizona.html
I was assuming that you were planning what group you wanted to side with based on who controlled more of Tucson (a pretty common request in /r/ingress). The map on the ingress website is available to anyone with an account. The cheating had nothing to do with the map but had everything to do with people sharing accounts.
I hope no one minds me posting this (I didn't want to start a whole new classifieds thread): I'm currently selling my vinyl collection + turntable + phono preamp, I have them listed on craigslist: http://tucson.craigslist.org/ele/5287082491.html
My collection can be found here ( https://rateyourmusic.com/collection/Brokenhill/oo,fmt.LP/1 )
My gear is audiophile grade and I have an eclectic mix of albums, some rare / collector's stuff in there.
I agree that it has some value, but as far as what sort of compensation you should receive for having it, the rate is low. Where it does hold value is getting people interested in technology.
It's only good if the person taking it doesn't have practical hardware/software administration. TIA tests, especially A+ can be a real joke. Some questions are moronic, others ask you the 15-character designation and transfer rate of a connector type that went extinct over a decade ago and traditionally goes by a simpler name.
I've been on the hiring side of the table for support jobs like you mention, generally people with A+ on their resume are like OP, high school aged, and have high school amounts of experience. The A+ won't get you a living wage unless you're interested and experienced beyond what it tests you on.
My advice to OP if they actually want to pursue IT, is take classes online, for free. MIT and Harvard offer classes with more relevant computer science coursework.
I've been researching this a lot lately with the same goal. Please update if you find reliable resources locally. Keep in mind that neither TEP or the state will grant you tax breaks for DIY. That doesn't stop the DIY crowd! Check out udemy.com solar courses. Not expensive for the amount of learning you can do. Youtuber Jehu Garcia has awesome info if you're interested in a DIY powerwall. I think TEP has some "free" solar program on now, but they are also raising all power bills in May 2020... so "free" is probably bullshit. I think we need a group of DIYers interested in this. Maybe one of the local maker spots has info too.
I'd start by learning simple scripting (e.g. HTML/CSS/Javascript). http://w3schools.com has some great intro tutorials.
If that interests you, move on into simple back-end web coding (PHP or Java or Ruby)
Then if you really want to get into the meat of programming, learn Android/Java or C/C++ or Objective C/iOS.
No solid leads so far.
In this same subreddit, i learned about this local organization:
https://www.freecycle.org/town/TucsonAZ
Maybe this could be a place to meet people who are able to donate a free little library!
I'm glad you have good intentions!
Yeah, I'm excited for this thing, but where are we meeting?
There is this coming up this weekend, but what about the 25th! I must know, man!
My ex-girlfriend told me to buy one of these and it has been a lifesaver for me.

Well worth $30!
I got tired of the same issue around Tucson so I ordered a $30 12v air compressor that I just keep in the car. Have had it for a year and a half now and its worked great. Even has a digital readout of the current pressure.

There are just a lot of things that can cause punctures in this area. Using a Slime Tube will allow the small punctures to seal without causing a flat. You may have to add some air again when you run over something but it will seal. Slime Tube You can get them at Walmart or other big box stores.
Here you go! They didn't have a mock up of the back for me to post. It's a strap just not sure if it's exactly like the one you were wanting. If not no worries!
Thank you! This link is for the 5 panel. Just starting out so even if people just look I don't mind! The feedback and knowing I'm on the right track makes me want to keep designing
