There are people playing this play-by-post over at the official Discord of the game, so the answer seems to be a definite yes (even though I have no first hand experience myself.)
Go check out the play-by-post section at https://discord.com/invite/be4HHhU
(And congrats on your 2nd kid & all the best to you all.)
I’m just going to leave this here. Perfect for destroyer. You have to build and paint them, but even if you don’t paint them, all you need is a set of clippers and glue. If you can share PC audio I'd recommend using this: https://tabletopaudio.com/alien_starship_sp.html
mixed with Alien Isolation and Alien Covenant soundtracks and ambience.
You can see the insides pictured on this Amazon product page.
Personally I felt (and feel) it's too sparse and could hold more information, so I made my own pages, here's a demo that I've since revised. I've just started GM:in the game, so its still very much a work in progress and subject to change.
seen someone use these, (or a variant of) also asked players to use them as a signal, so when they were open, to not banter too much, put phones away etc.
You looking for a digital or physical copy?
This physical copy costs 33 before shipping but it includes quicks start rules, tokens, and 20 USD a pop dice. physical copy
Many child games for children pre school age have color dice. As the numeric values are irrelevant you can just define "red" as "success" or similar.
All the portraits are made with https://thispersondoesnotexist.com/ so they're not real people, more like composites. If you look real close at some of the images, there are...oddities. I cropped out the real creepy stuff. Someone else suggested using other software effects to soften the images and such, which I might do, but most of the visuals are mediums I'm still learning.
Music is key. I found a soundboard that’ll let you manipulate everything from reloading a firearm, flamethrower to doors and alien shrieks. You can also increase the volume or decrease the volume of the individual item. For example I’d make my players declare when they turned on/off their motion detectors. There’s never been a more “puckering” movement than when they’re trying to lay out a plan and they pick up a reading or three. Will post the link below. aliens soundboard
Make full use of supply rolls. There’s nothing like a player losing three out of their five oxygen supply when fixing a satellite relay and a xenomorph pop out from behind something to REALLY get the blood flowing.
For my group I would just use shot glasses. But you can get a bunch of plastic test tubes from amazon for less than $20 https://www.amazon.com/BTSD-home-29x150mm-Containers-Birthday-Favors%EF%BC%8830/dp/B081YXXGFW/ref=sr_1_3?_encoding=UTF8&c=ts&keywords=Test%2BLab%2BTubes&qid=1637262811&s=industrial&sr=1-3&ts_id=393384011&th=1
My partner wrote a one shot campaign with the RPG for my friends and I for a post Halloween / early Friendsgiving get together. Three friends remote via discord, and then myself, partner, and three friends around our fold up card tables and the monitor game board! I made lemon drop martinis and added green to them.added green to them.
You can also try this application eDEX-UI. It's very cool! https://github.com/GitSquared/edex-ui
"[..]While keeping a futuristic look and feel, it strives to maintain a certain level of functionality and to be usable in real-life scenarios, with the larger goal of bringing science-fiction UXs to the mainstream."
Running a GM game through Destroyer of Worlds, the exposition dump at the marshal station is pretty high, so I made a little python program to act like a terminal. The program just runs in any old console, but the video shows it running within https://github.com/Swordfish90/cool-retro-term to give the right aesthetic.
Worked really nice as a couple of PCs worked their way through the info dump while the rest were able to keep asking the chief marshal questions. Might make something similar for the third act which also has a fair info dump from a terminal.
Hello everyone, this is the artist.
Some time ago I came across this wonderfully nerdy gimmick called cool-retro-term (CRT, kudos Swordfish90) and immediately felt strong Aliens / Event Horizon vibes. After playing around for a while, I came up with a little vacation project the result of which you see above. I thought some people here might appreciate it.
I hope you like it, CU!
I use the broadcast function in TabletopAudio soundpad. The Alien Starship soundboard is almost perfect: https://tabletopaudio.com/alien_starship_sp.html
This site has a track called Nostromo, under sci-fi. It's 10 minutes and you can stick it on an infinite loop, and it's not repetitive or monotonous. It more or less sounds from the movies.
TileEd is a free mapping program that I really like. It can be used for anything from tabletop RPG "dungeon maps" to actual levels for computer games. It has a bit of a learning curve, mainly for creating/importing tiles/art, but it's easy to use once you get the hang of it.
I am actually working on creating a tileset for making Aliens-style sci-fi maps. I have one already but it is not particularly "print friendly".
