What you're doing is Freezer Burn. What you need to do is get you brand(made out of metal) and get it really, ridiculously cold. I've used something like this, but for different purposes so I don't know if it gets cold enough to "burn" - I suggest getting a piece of pork with skin on and seeing how it marks the pork skin(which is similar enough to human for testing), before using it on the sub. Obviously, disinfect it before using it on the sub after testing it on raw pork.

If your sub doesn't have any unusual jaw issues I think a 1.5" ball gag is a good place to start. Silk rope is available on Amazon and other places, but it's not one of the more common materials used for bondage. (Read carefully to make sure it's actually silk and not 'silky something else'.)
Silk is very strong, stronger than hemp, and you will not be able to rip it. However, silk is soft enough that it will slide easily and your knots may slip off, which is why most riggers don't use it. It also degrades faster than most natural materials.
As beginners, you're not going to notice much difference in different rope materials other than softness versus roughness. A soft MFP rope might be just as good or better for your uses and easier to clean without much chance of skin reactions compared with natural fibers like hemp or jute. If you want it to feel more romantic and less 'hardcore', might I recommend something like this:

It's a sheet, not a rope. You roll it up where you want to make knots and use the unfolded sheet wide where you want to restrain the bottom's body, so it's much better for not putting pressure on joints and nerves accidentally. Very good for starting out, since it's very unlikely you'll make a knot you can't undo, but you should also pick up a pair of safety sheers to cut it just in case there's some sort of emergency.

First of all, I never said new Tops don't need or deserve advice and help but they are not in danger the way new subs or slaves are. I'm prone to razor burn and ingrown hairs so I use a razor comb to keep everything about 1/2" long - long enough to not be prickly, short enough to stay clean and out of the way of any fun. There's pretty much no way to cut yourself with a razor comb, plus they're cheap and the razor blades are easy to replace (it's just a generic straight razor). I know some people also use electric clippers/trimmers if they have them already, with the same approach.
That said, it's really not as scary as it might seem. The bikini line at least is really no worse than shaving your legs, you just get to the top of your thighs and keep going.
I think ever since people started using electrostatic tape in kink, savvy marketers have started putting that into their products' search terms so it's harder to sort through to find the stuff that isn't overpriced and marketed for bedroom play. It's something else you can try searching for.

I think velcro straps are pretty versatile, and cheap, less than $9/pair. The 2" wide versions are a bit better, one version even comes with a handle.

Grounding connector, sometimes called a grounding strap, looks like this. The long metal portion can come in either that style or a flat piece of metal, with the other end going into the wand, but the idea is to place it onto your waist so it makes contact with your skin. It will conduct through you to the nearest ground, which ideally would be your masochist. If you've insulated yourself properly, and are using tools to touch the bottom, you won't feel a thing. You can feel the same thing as them though, if you make skin to skin contact.

I've been using this one for a little while and it works really well. It has three intensity settings and a couple of pulse settings. I haven't tested the actual range of the remote, but it'll work from a good 10 feet away at least, and it actually worked through a door. When you turn the small knob on the side it opens the clamp ever so slightly so it can't completely close down. It takes a while to find the perfect spot that is still tight enough that you can pull on the chain but doesn't hurt tooooo much.

I actually BROKE that one on a sub's butt (she liked it really hard) and had to patch it back. I made a "Splint" by splitting coffee stirrers, coating them with super glue and putting them on. A hard rifle case would probably be what you're looking for. Something like this. The foam lined interior would hold things in place pretty well when it's all closed up. Plus it looks vanilla yet is intimidating.
If you were set on customizing it, you can carve compartments out of the foam and strap stuff down by cutting slits in the foam and sliding some leather straps with grommet buttons through the slits. Very easy to DIY customize.
