Have you checked AbeBooks? Here's a search, I'm not sure if any of those are what you want though.
It's on sale on Amazon right now though. Only 13.95 for hardback. It's also on Thriftbooks though it's a bit more there.
I'm also in Philly. I'm willing to buy a copy of the book (it looks quite good) and loan it to you if you're close enough. PM me.
Wow, you have an amazing list.
Interested in: The fountainhead (Ayn Rand), William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying and Light in August, Children of Dune (by Herbert), Anthem by Ayn Rand), All of the Ender's Game books (by Orson Scott Card), Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and We the Living (by Rand)?
Not interested in any of the stuff that hasn't been claimed yet, and not really related to this sub, but seeing as you mentioned you're interested in both taoism and tea, you might be interested in The Book of Tea if you don't mind reading ebooks. It basically tells the history of tea and goes into a decent amount of detail about the relationship between tea and taoism. Plus, it won't take up any space, seeing as you're trying to make room
I don't have a lot of counter-culture or 1st Editions (mostly romance and fiction), but I'll be more than happy to send you a few books! I have a catalouge here of books that I'm willing to send out. Just look over the list and PM me your address and a few books you'd like. No one should live without books.
Also, have you also tried x-posting to [/r/Random_Acts_of_Books](/r/Random_Acts_of_Books) yet?
I don't have the book, but check out Abebooks.com. I did a search for "Count of Monte Cristo" and refined for hardback only and they have them as low as $3.50 shipped. Hopefully that will fit your budget.
I am not in a position to help you right now, unfortunately. But maybe someone at /r/assistance may be able to help you, although they are usually for help in paying for necessities as opposed to something you want.
I would be interested in hearing the story, if you want someone to talk too.
Also on the subject, sevencupsoftea is a great service to find a listener to vent or to listen to someone. I hope I at least helped a little :)
It is a bit of a long shot but I found it at a university library. You could contact them and there may be a few options.
If the book hasn't seen a lot of action in the last few years they may be willing to part with it. I know my mom works at a hospital library and they pass on tons of books they are taking off the shelves to her. When she was working at a public library something similiar would happen with their fiction and poetry.
If the book is getting taken out a lot they may be willing to copy it (at a cost) and then you can take it some where to get it bound for your friend.
Here is the link
As I hit up my used bookstores in the near future I will keep my eyes out for it and would be willing to pick up a copy and mail one down to you if you would be willing to pay me back for the book and the shipping.
Hm I've got a some of those already but let me look at some and I'll let you know if I'm interested. "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!" is an outstanding book. My 9th grade history teacher (who was the best guy I've ever known) recommended it to me.
I've got What If? right now checked out from a library as a summer reading book. Not sure if I'd want my own copy or not.
Hey! I have Palahniuk's "Lullaby." Can we please trade? I would really like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance! I also would love the Chomsky book (On Language), but I'm not sure I have anything else you would like in return. Is there anything else you'd like that isn't on this list?
So, I don't have books to trade right now, but I wanted to suggest some titles for you on some books that you might really enjoy if you can get a copy:
(Here's that link to the first book: http://www.urbandharma.org/udharma4/mpe.html)
I would love Aristole's Poetics and Marcus Aurelius' Meditations. I have a few things to trade. I might have to regather my list, but I know I have: On the Road by Kerouac, The Giver by Lowry, and A Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. I know I have more, I am combining book collections with my soon to be wife, and I know we have doubles. If you would book mark those two for me, I'll figure out what else we have. I think we have East of Eden by Steinbeck too, but I want to double check because that is one of my favorite books. What more I have will be more of the same though, so I'm not sure if it will be up your alley.
edit: Are you in the US?
The list is long but illustrious:
Well ok. I have The Myth of the Rational Market by Justin fox. I have mid century works by Hayek and Keynes that are still relevant to the economic discussion today. I have downloaded two audio books by Thomas frank that are very relevant (one was released this year) and I think should be required reading for everyone who votes. They are masterworks. I can figure out how to let you pirate them if you would like.
What do you have to trade?
I also have America the Vulnerable in audiobook format. It is a review of American cyber security by a one time head of counter intelligence for the NSA. I also highly recommend this work.
Another edit, I also have text books on the soviet union and the middle east.
My first preference is that you go through paperbackswap so I can get credit and then get other books.
If not, and you have anything in this list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0AhO_pdG-dvcHdGNwZVROaFZETDNkeUp3c281VmNRSGc&single=true&gid=3&output=html
I'd be willing to send them both for just one book. Or feel free to make an offer.
As a teacher, I'm happy to see this happening. To further the cause, here's 4chan's self learning guide. It's really fantastic. All free, and has been invaluable in my teaching thusfar.
Aah, I don't know! I couldn't find anything to compare prices with on Amazon, which is usually my go-to. The B&N Marketplace lists $2, but I didn't know if you'd go that low. What about $4? That would be enough to get you the mass market paperback of The Dragon Reborn on Amazon, so you indirectly get something you want.
I'm in the US, specifically Atlanta, GA.
Just in case no one steps up, here are the cheapest (without being trash quality) copies I could find online. Clockwork Prince and Clockwork Princess.
I don't have any physical ones, but I highly recommend a site I've used to learn it.
sciguide
It's a collection made by 4chan's /sci/. It's all free and can help you learn just about anything. It has a ton of free books and videos, as well as open courseware. I'd recommend Harvard's CS 50 class.
Just so you know, Barnes and Noble sells a copy of Hitchhiker's Guide that includes all the books and it beautifully bound, and hardcover for like 20 bucks. I love mine too much to part with it. It has a permanent spot on my nightstand. :)
Here is a link to the ones I have. (I don't have the box and will not be trading the hobbit)
Perhaps I'm wrong here, but it looks like this book is still available. I know it's not the original printing, and I know it's nothing to replace your old copy, but it's something, right? (BTW, thanks for mentioning that book, I plan on reading it now. Looks fascinating.)
I just posted looking for this in Swedish and then saw this post.. unfortunately not as easy to find mine online it seems.
> those three books in English are darn hard to find where I live, and if you do find them, they are probably around 40 euro a piece
Order online. I'm in Sweden and I've ordered a bunch from Amazon and bookdepository.com, never had a problem.
bookdepository.com has The God Delusion for €8.28 (free worldwide shipping).
On Basilisk Station by David Weber is available as a free e-book from the Baen Free Library.
And <em>Triplanetary</em> from E.E. Smith is available free at Project Gutenberg.
I'll check back a little later on this, because I think I might have Anubis Gates on the shelves at home. And I know I have Childhood's End if you're looking for Arthur C. Clarke in general, as opposed to specifically The City and The Stars.
I'm also interested. Would you ship to Europe?
However, if possible I would recommend avoiding PDFs on Kindle because sometimes they don't jive as well; if you have a choice, use MOBI. Also I highly recommend the free program Calibre to manage your library, convert files if necessary, and sync with your ereader.
Are you a young reader? Alas, Babylon and Girl Who Owned a City are fabulous Beyond those, Malevil, Canticle for Leibowitz, Oryx and Crake Radio play of Canticle: https://archive.org/details/ACanticleForLiebowitz
It is great to see you live in Massachusetts, since I just recently published a very cheap Kindle ebook on foraging in the New England area. It contains 140+ relevant plants and the majority of them are present in Massachusetts (I specify which ones are available in which states) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KN5989K
I don't have a copy but was interested in knowing more about the book and while looking it up noticed that there's a $10.01 ($3.99 shipping) PB copy on Amazon right now https://www.amazon.com/Passive-Vampire-Image-Word/dp/8086264319
Sorry for your loss.
I found this to be an intriguing read. Heavy on the historical perspective. Interested?
Hi! This is a really great book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. (So much so that's I'm not yet ready to part with my copy). However, I came here to say that, if you're not opposed to Amazon, there are some reasonably priced Oxford Paperbacks with well written forwards available here. Also, there are plenty of copies from a variety of publishers with free shipping to Canada here. (FYI: you can search specifically for books with free shipping to Canada on the abebooks website, which is what I did in that link.) Good luck and enjoy the book!
Haven't seen any of the books you're looking for, although I did pick up some Asimov & a sci-fi anthology today, as well as Stephen King's "On Writing" book. album
Great list. I'd be interested in perhaps buying some of the following. If you could shoot me some prices, that would rock. Also, I only need pictures if there's damage to the items beyond normal shelf wear. Thanks!

Thanks!
I've got that book. It's mildly worn, but still more than readable. Do you have any of these:
If you don't, do you have (a list of) some classics that made an impression on you?
Oh, me me! May I purchase from you Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and the Phillip K. Dick book The Minority Report and other stories? Can you tell me how much shipping would be, and I can then make an offer on price for books? I have paypal, would that work? And on the off chance I win one of the other books (which would be awesome!), do I get to pick which one, or will it just be random?
Edit: OP, I feel like, since its after 10pm on Sunday, that the drawing for the autographed books may not be happening, but in the event you come back to this thread, I would still really like to purchase the two books I mentioned. Just PM me whenever you return please! Thanks!
Interested in Notes from the Underground (the one that doesn't include The Grand Inquisitor) and The Wealth of Nations.
interested in: Prometheus Bound and Other Plays, Egyptian Magic, Egyptian Mythology, Aeneid, The Art of War, Rhetoric, Poetics, The Egyptian Book of the Dead, The Iliad, and Four Plays (Aristophanes).
Can I get pictures? I'm mostly interested in the Egyptian books, however.
Here's what I definitely have to trade (most in excellent condition). If there's an author you like, I might have more than what's posted of them:
Lucky Man by Michael J Fox
Peter Pan by JM Barrie
The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer
The Hunger Games & Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
Through the Looking Glass & Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Carroll
Mattimeo by Brian Jacques
Loamhedge by Brian Jacques
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Spindle's End by Robin McKinley
Pretties by Scott Westerfeld
Inkheart Trilogy by Cornelia Funke
A bunch of Agatha Christie mystery novels
A bunch of Neil Gaiman novels
Some Thoreau (Walden and The Maine Woods) and also some fiction classics, including some books in the Dune series, Dracula, The Silmarillion, All Quiet on the Western Front, and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
I'd love The Book of Disquiet by Pessoa.
I have the first 4 books in the Song of Fire & Ice series. Some others I have you might be interested in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Pirsig, Notes from Underground by Dostoevsky (translated by Pevear and Volokhonsky) and Catcher in the Rye by Salinger.
Unfortunately I'm not really interested in any of those books. I'm not sure if you have amazon prime, but if you do there are two books I would like (The Autobiography of Ben Franklin and Meditations by Marcus Aurelius) that are a total of $3.25. I would be more than willing to send you The Giver and Romeo & Juliet if you would get me those two books. Or if there is something else you want to try to work out I am open to suggestions.
I'd love Travels with Charlie
I don't have anything on your want list. Any interest on Catcher in the Rye, Dracula, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Giver, Deception Point or Think and Grow Rich?
Been meaning to read American Gods. Cool. I will definitely send you Nicomachean Ethics and will attempt to send the physics text as well. It depends if I can fit the physics book in my suitcase or not (I'm flying tomorrow and can only bring so much). PM me your address and I'll reply with mine.
Thanks!
The Vagina Monologues, Flannery O'Connor's The Complete Stories, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and Delta of Venus are all books I'd love to have! I don't have much for swapping, but can pay for them.
Wow, I really have my work cut out for me now! This list is incredible, I'm definitely going to have to read them all. In fact, I'm going to start Mindfulness in Plain English as soon as I get done here. Thanks so much for sharing!
Really, let me know what kind of books you'd be interested in other than the Palahniuk one. I have many. I'll put together an "actual" list soon, but for now, here's a few:
David Sedaris - Me Talk Pretty One Day
John Irving - The Cider House Rules
Chuck Palahniuk - Haunted
Chuck Palahniuk - Rant
Robert Pirsig - Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
Shakespeare - King Lear
Rowling - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Tim O'Brien - The Things They Carried
Arthur Miller - Death of a Salesman
Jack Kerouac - On the Road
Carson McCullers - The Heart is a Lonely Hunter
I'm interested in your copy of On Writing. Let me know if you see anything you like. Here's my list
I have two.
Pragmatism: The Classic Writings edited by H.S. Thayer. It includes Charles Sanders Peirce, William James, Clarence Irving Lewis, John Dewey, and George Herbert Mead. ISBN 0-915145-37-5
Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle, edited by Roger Crisp. ISBN 978-0-521-63546-21.
Both are paperbacks.
The Edgar Allan Poe compilation would be nice, sure. On Writing is only 280 pages. Would you like another non-King book to go with it?
It's a funny thing: I can't stand the word "ma'am", so I use sir as a neutral title. You may be lady-sir blarglznoflo, if you'd like.
Do you have Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, graphic novels or comic books, feminist or anarchist books (i.e. Emma Goldman, Peter Kropotkin)? Other than that, I'm not really looking for anything else.
I don't have any Holocaust fiction, but I can send you a copy of "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl who was a Holocaust survivor and psychologist.
I've read a number of survivor's works as well as historical texts on the subject, but never any fiction. I guess there are so many unbelievable yet true stories, that I never thought to read any fiction on the subject. The one that affected me most was Primo Levi's "Survival in Auschwitz", but unfortunately I don't have a copy to send. I'm also currently reading "Eichmann In Jerusalem" by Hannah Arendt which is interesting but it is more a work of journalism surrounding the Adolf Eichmann trial and doesn't really examine too much the trauma of his victims.
Interested in Nicomachean Ethics. I can pay shipping for it, but I've also got a couple books you may or may not appreciate.
Reinventing the Sacred by Stuart Kauffman. Flowers for Algernon by David Keyes.
If you are interested in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Ken Kesey or The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver or The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass I would be interested in The Last of the Mochicans by JFC
I've got some philosophy/ethics books if you want them.
Aristotle. Nicomachean Ethics. Edited by Roger Crisp. Published by Cambridge Texts. Paperback. ISBN 978-0-521-63546-2 Never used.
Cicero. On Duties. Edited by M.T. Griffin and E.M. Atkins. Published by Cambridge Texts. Paperback. ISBN 978-0-521-34835-5 Still in the plastic.
I'm a high school senior, and I have an extra copy of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I'm not sure you already have a copy, or if you do, you'd like another, but I'm willing to offer it up! Edit: I added my age because I was going to say that I read it for the first time last year, so I thought it would be fitting.
Here's my WANT list.
If you don't have anything on there, oh well. I'll send the books anyway. PM me what you'd like to do.
Oh! That sounds awesome! Any suggestions of what would you like to swap for? I have some older sci-fi like Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles & The Illustrated Man, 1984, Cats Cradle, A Clockwork Orange, The Land That Time Forgot and Tarzan by Burroughs. I also have the first of the Dresden Files Series, Storm Front. I have Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories, A Million Little Pieces, Dracula, The Bell Jar, and a few others.
I'm a student 8 hours away from home so I could only take some of my books with me, which still turned out to be a lot haha.
I have "Mutual Aid" but it's a pamphlet/Digest. Also have "My Further Disillusionment in Russia" and "The Psychology of Political Violence" by Emma Goldman.
I'm currently reading "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" (not sure which version it is) and "The State" by Kropotkin. I can send these to you later if you're interested.
I'm interested in Steinbeck, Bakan and both Nader books.
I'd like All the Pretty Horses.
I have The Canterbury Tales, The Poisonwood Bible, A Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, two philosophy books by Iris Murdoch, Crazy Cock by Henry Miller, Henry & June - Anais Nin, or What If?: The World's Foremost Military Historians Imagine What Might Have Been by Cowley. Let me know if any of those interest you.
Just these: (I cleared out my collection pretty drastically)
Pasquale's Angel (Paul J. Mcauley) World's that weren't (Turtledove and others) On Writing (Stephen King) It's Kind of a funny story (Ned Vizzinni)
Here's the philosophy I've got: Reason & Responsibility 11th ed, Contemporary Debates in Moral Philosophy (ed. by Dreier), The Philosophy of Language 5th ed, The Nature of Mind (Rosenthal), A History of Western Philosophy (Bertrand Russell)
Wow, thanks for listing these all out! I'm actually interested in several...
Robert M. Pirsig – Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
John Berendt – Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Jonah Blank – Arrow of the Blue-Skinned God
Cervantes - Don Quixote
A.J. Jacobs - The Know-It-All
I also have a stack of old books to be traded, Let me list them out for you and maybe we could make a bigger swap if you see something you might be interested in...I'll post again shortly.
Almost never touched, so it's in good condition! :)
I'm not entirely sure what I'd like in return since I have a lot of unread books still. But anything science/evolution related. Maybe something Richard Dawkins? Capitalism and Freedom maybe. Or just a good book that you'd recommend? I'm not set on anything. If you make a few offers, I'm sure we'll find something that interests me!
Feel free to PM me!

How to read a book
The Art of Learning: A Journey in the Pursuit of Excellence,
Do you have any Black scifi? I have a lot of fiction written by Black women - Morrison, Walker, Aidoo, Kincaid, etc. I think I have a Zane anthology, but I'm sure you probably have it as well. This is another book I have, not as well known but it gets good reviews. It's a rough text, I've only read it all the way once and that was for a paper.
I'd be interested in The Road to Dune! I have Last Rituals and All Fun and Games Until Somebody Loses an Eye Both are paperbacks.
Hey there - I have this book if you want to take it off my hands. Posting from Ireland.
Looks like there is a used copy by a private seller on Amazon
haha. That's chill. I don't have any Vonnegut to send, I'm afraid, but I wrote a book about terrible OKC stories :). It's like $2 on kindle. I don't actually get much money from it. I just want people to know about it :) If you read it, I hope you like it!

And some more "practical" titles, I forget them though
