> Having more diversity in any workplace is gonna get you better results
Does it? I have heard that many times, but haven't seen any research to support that.
Us marines corps found it to not be the case, mixed squads were clearly worse on most accounts (slower, more likely to get injured, etc):
Check out Windy, weather is always changing but I feel that this should give a rough idea on how things are going.
According to the site the real heavy stuff is going to hit at 5pm tomorrow.
According to Windy, the smoke will rise up a little from lunch, and drop again from 11pm-2am, the heavy stuff should be back by 5pm tomorrow. (Subjected to change of course)
Try Meetup.com.
You could join a church but if you're not religious then it's probably not the best idea (take it from me) however I did feel a real sense of community when I did go to church.
You could join a sports team (it's okay, I didn't do this either).
This group sometimes does their own meetups (I've never been personally).
If you have some niche interest (board games, D&D, etc.) there are plenty of people around Canberra who do those things.
I'll be honest, I've been here for 9 years and I have friends here but I still don't have any super close friends. My graduate program was great for that at first and then over time we all drifted apart. Eventually I discovered Meetup and met people that way. I met a lot of people through it but didn't make any super close friends. For the past year or so, I've been attending Meetups with a particular Meetup group and I've gotten to know people through that, however we're not BFFs or anything. Then again, I have autism and while I'm reasonably friendly, I was never a master at making friends.
But if you just sit at home watching Netflix every weekend then you won't meet anyone.
Librivox has free audio books from public domain works and if you want to kill some time by doing something worthwhile, you can contribute voice overs yourself (and learn a great skill at the same time).
The sky is blue-ish, there is still a haze and the air quality isn't excellent. https://www.windy.com/-PM2-5-pm2p5?cams,pm2p5,2020010806,-34.960,149.925,8,m:cGsakjz This suggests tomorrow is going to be smoky again. Until the fires are out we can't really say with certainty that things are 'back to normal'.
Definitely - plenty of good 2 player games around.
Pandemic has been around for a while but is excellent value for $30 - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00A2HD40E.
There's also other versions of the game like Pandemic Legacy, but the original is a good entry.
I cannot help you directly. I know there used to be a cultural outreach group for language learning that also provided some book sales. Also most libraries have a small international service. I would go to amazon though. I heard that "The Three Body Problem", a scifi book written by Liu Cixin is a really good read. It was originally written in mandarin.
Here's a link:
https://www.amazon.com/Three-Body-Problem-Chinese-Cixin-Liu/dp/7536692935
I would scan, encrypt and store copies digitally and then keep the physical copies in a fireproof document bag as the cheap option. Otherwise you can speak to banks, they were cheaper than I expected when I researched them but it's still an annual fee and range in cost depending on size and access. There's also private companies which do a similar service.
Hiya! I'm volunteering my time to help the ACT Greens campaign for this election. I've just released a mobile app for the ACT election. It has info on the Greens candidates, policies, and how you can get involved. It also has lots of helpful info on when, where, and how to vote, including enrolling, postal votes, and pre-poll and interstate voting. Please check it out and share it if you're interested. Thanks!

Windy can be used to roughly estimate PM2.5 concentration. It obviously can't predict new fires or rapidly changing wind conditions, but based on the current forecast it does a decent job at giving a picture of what to expect:
Obviously the middle of civic isn't ideal, but you can get away just fine with most suburbs. Light pollution isn't so bad here in Canberra, all of the planets up to and including Saturn are readily visible to the naked eye from pretty much anywhere.
A local oval or somewhere without many trees or hills to obstruct your view is ideal, but your backyard will probably suffice for anything except Mercury, which will sit very low on the horizon and will be easily obstructed. It will be a bit higher in the horizon around the first week of February but you'll still have to get up early.
I would recommend anyone who is new to night sky observing to download Stellarium, an excellent planetarium program. That way you can have a look at what the alignment looks like on your PC first, so you can be sure that you're looking at the right objects. The star Spica sits roughly along this alignment and it's about as bright as Mars is at the moment. Antares and Saturn are also close together and can easily be confused.
Enjoy!
This may better than bubble wrap but a bit harder to procure https://www.amazon.com.au/3M-Indoor-Window-Insulator-5-Window/dp/B00002NCJI esp if you dislike Beff Jezos
Friends from the us buy it at their Bunnings equivalent and fit on windows they won't open for the entire winter and peel off in spring.
It did a bit in my house when I tried in some of my windows with my friends offcuts. Worth a try
Done.
Also this book was a big eye opener for me when I first read it. I related very closely to the introvert scenarios used throughout the book: https://www.amazon.com.au/Introvert-Advantage-People-Thrive-Extrovert-ebook/dp/B006VUIDIY
I am using Huginn to scrape the Flying Activity website once a day and email me when the latest posts match Canberra or Russell.
Unfortunately there's no mention of either in the details for this one, so I'll have to update it to match ADFA and Campbell
TL;DR - Doing my own thing, doesn't quite work yet.
I normally change carriage lol. what can you do? Don't engage these people, not much good can come of it but a lot of bad can (eg you get assaulted and catch a blood born disease).
Edit: there's a good book written by a cop who developed strategies for calming people down.. https://www.amazon.com/Verbal-Judo-Gentle-Persuasion-Updated/dp/0062107704
Get some RabbitGoo cling film. Cheap and you can take it down in seconds if they get heavy with you.
Here is Amazon but ebay is cheaper. https://www.amazon.com.au/200cm-Pebble-Pattern-Rabbitgoo-Decorative/dp/B01HRGL2FQ/ref=asc_df_B01HRGL2FQ/?tag=googleshopdsk-22&linkCode=df0&hvadid=341774382430&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1258901441482732190&hvpone=&hvptwo=&a...
I'm seeing a lot of negativity, but I looked at one example - Queen Anne's Revenge - assumed complete - priced at $450
That's smack dab on par with used prices for this set of LEGO - including many incomplete sets
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=4195-1#T=P
Or you could go the new old-stock price for that kit on Amazon - over $2000
https://www.amazon.com.au/LEGO-Queen-Revenge-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B004MWK2C8
I personally wouldn't buy any of it - I'm not a LEGO collector with an itch for a particular set - but there are plenty out there
And, as always with the Green Shed, there will be a charity that substantially benefits at the end of the day
I am compelled to say that you should check out the National Rock Garden. It sure is unique.
You're trying to cram in a lot so if I were you I wouldn't go for Tidbinbilla, you're talking at least a half day. If you do, Gibraltar Peak is a nice walk with a good view.
Closer in, Black Mountain has the nicest centrally-located short mountain walks, the loop trail especially. It'll be very easy to fit in with a trip to Telstra Tower. If you want a longer walk you can go from the base up to the loop and back.
Fantastic view from Mt. Ainslie but again if you have limited time then I don't think it's worth walking, just drive. If you do walk it (to look at some kangaroos?) there are nicer trails nearby on Mt Majura, or on the northwest side near the labyrinth.
No - It's probably just a weatherstation that has a web interface. Not a public website anyone can visit (notwithstanding you could push your data to an aggegator like Wundergrounds PWS)
Such connectivity is pretty much the norm now if you go buy a "smart" weather station.
I love these
https://www.amazon.com.au/Digital-Optical-Audio-Cable-Toslink/dp/B075MB19LM
"corrosion-resistant, gold-plated connectors and buffer tubing for optimal signal transfer"
There's no electrical connection so the whole cable can be plastic and the signal will be just as good - but people pay extra...
I have a pair of Craft Ventair X Wind mittens, like these
Keep me warm down to -5C. If the temperature gets above 8 or 10 degrees I find them too warm and my hands get sweaty inside them.

Ahhh I feel like I fkd up voting above the line. I did put Zed near dead last there but.
Everyone's saying peanut butter, but I'll give you one better if you can get it. Goober. The peanut butter mixed with the sweetness of the jelly, they simply can't resist https://www.amazon.com/Smuckers-Goober-Peanut-Butter-Stripes/dp/B0029K0W34
I picked this set up off amazon so i could do some lock picking for a uni assignment. Its a common misconception that lock picking gear is illegal and only criminals buy them. These days it's actually mostly people doing it for a hobby and it's totally legal. This set is great. Comes with clear practice locks so you can see the pins move as you press on them with the picks. It is legit shocking how quickly you can open bike locks and most padlocks you'd have lying around the house. There are heaps of awesome YouTube tutorials thst show you different techniques. Enjoy dude!

Mate, I am on the NBN: https://www.speedtest.net/result/9723654760
Doubt the VDSL2+ can compete
If everyone had FTTP that's what we'd be getting. Multi technology mix is the problem, not the NBN itself
You can try looking at Meetup.com if you like. It's free to join. But I would avoid the general social groups that are open to everyone because I'm 31 and I feel young in some of those groups.
Hey Leon,
After you gave us all that sweet feedback, I forgot to point out that we actually have an official attendee survey going until this Sunday that ties into a raffle. Copy-paste what you've already told us and you're in the draw for some sweet stuff donated by a number of exhibitors: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9QC26WS
Here's a link to free online courses run by some universities online (Brown, Yale, Harvard, etc).
There might be something there that relates to your studies!
I cannot answer your question, but I was surprised that you said flights aren’t available. Qantas is operating flights from Devonport to Melbourne, with a connection to Canberra - surely that is easier than the travel plan your boss figured out?
A bit of a weird request - I've been trying to look for this place from Uber Eats as I had the most delicious breakfast burger but I'm unavailable to find this in the Gungahlin Marketplace as the address suggests. Google gives me no results. Does anyone know how to find this place because it doesn't look like it's Grease Monkeys or Oscys.
Do you know how much higher the cost of living is? I've seen conflicting information varying from over 8% more expensive in Canberra to 6 % cheaper... Obviously the 8% more expensive is what I'll base my salary expectations off though.
i haven't used it myself, but this was recently recommended:
https://kahoot.com/academy/study/?grade=all-ages&subject=trivia&language=english
Use a offline camera system i.e. ubiquiti and have it so that you encrypt and upload to a cloud service provider of your choice. Far more secure, just more technical to setup if the service doesn't support it natively.
Is use Ubiquity protect, unifi video downloader, and Cryptomator to upload to onedrive.
I ended up buying a sit/stand desk frame (motorised) and just transferred my desk's top to it. Ended up being about 280 AUD off amazon - Link
Ended up being far cheaper. Assembly and transfer was easy. Just needed a drill, also bought some cable trays for underneath as well.
Like you I wanted to fit a keyboard on, plus some studio monitors so keeping the top was the best choice for me :)
It’s so handy! Here’s the one I have - it’s just a dodgy unbranded one I found in a shop one day:
I'm currently using kitchenpal: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fr.icuisto.icuisto&hl=en_AU&gl=US
I've used another one before that but it didn't have a barcode scanner so was really annoying. Kitchenpal is a little better although still clunky.
To be honest the main benefit for me was that it forced me to go through my pantry and fridge and see what the hell I had in there - and why did I randomly buy x product every time I went to the shop. It was also good to see what products have a much shorter shelf life and putting things I've just bought at the back so that I use up items that were bought earlier first. It also helped me realise what items I should never buy again b/c we never eat it (balsamic vinegar I'm looking at you) ...
It's a bit stressful at first because it kept pinging that certain items (fridge) were about to expire so I disabled the pinging :D
I have some Ikea blockout curtains. I can't remember the name (Swedish) but they are a blue and black tweedy sort of business. They seem OK, but in common with many blockout curtains, you have to clean them in place with your vacuum ie not put them in the washer or to the drycleaner.
If you don't fancy the aesthetic of bubblewrapped windows, cling film for windows is readily available (at least online) and is infinitely easy to use. You just need a water spray bottle to apply it and it comes in a huge variety of designs. They don't give you trapped layers, just thicker windows.
Ridiculously easy to use, you just tap the appropriate choices. No typing other than a short description.
It automatically finds the correct email to send it to and adds it for you.
Works wonders and you usually get a follow up, too!
The xiaomi ones will be on sale next week for black friday sales. A much cheaper deal than the local ones.
> Trying to figure out the life lesson that is being presented here but i can't put my finger on it.
Bad shit happens in life. Sometimes there's nothing you can do about it, sometimes it comes without warning. Overal it's a decent ride provided you learn resilience.
That and buy a better lock than the bike you're parked next too. consider somthing like this
I prefer Kindleberger's Manias, Panics and Crashes if you're interested in learning new things.
But it sounds more like you're implying we're suffering a mass delusion as opposed to the reality of a global pandemic.
I used TunnelBear, they don't have Syd or Melb.
But, when i connected from Japan, it didn't route me through that shitty Sydney server. But it did when i connected from Singapore.
Maybe I should invest in some decent VPN software and see what happens.
