I'm fairly sure Sebago's Made in USA line was contracted to <em>Highland Shoe Company</em> in Maine. Maybe give them a call, and see if they'll help.
I know this sub is typically more about higher end shoes/boots but these boots are a gem for ~$150. 2 years on construction sites with basically no maintenance and they are still solid and comfortable. Most of the damage to them is to the leather itself and entirely my fault (rebar ties scratching the leather, concrete left on after work, some cracking from lack of maintenance). They could probably make it another year if I didn’t get a stipend for new ones. They are Wolverine Durashocks. These ones specifically as not all are equal:

Sorry everyone. I've been lying to you all. I actually don't make my own wallets. I just buy them off Alibaba.
...Oh wait. They're just stealing my images.
You know you've made it when Chinese websites (Alibaba) start ripping off your pictures and selling it as their own. And here.
Chukkas, boondockers, and service boots from the past few days. Boot season is almost over for me.
*Yesterday's AotD: I keep most of my shoes in a humidity controlled basement in boxes. I recently got one of these door hanging racks for mocs and the rest of the family's lighter weight shoes. Really good choice to reduce clutter and keep things accessible.
FSA = Flexible Spending Account, HRA = Healthcare Reimbursement Account. Both are forms of paying for medical expenses at a discount.
FSA funds are something you designate at the beginning of each benefit year as a lump sum of your annual salary taken aside to use, but the amount is always pre-tax. The catch with FSA is it's use it or lose it each year, so don't set aside too much unless you're comfortable with blowing the remaining amounts at the end of the year on a bunch of random crap (listed below). HRA is something that some companies offer as an additional benefit and typically pre-load an account with a fixed amount each year for you to use without costing you anything.
These days both are typically done in the ways of giving you a credit card that charges from the account and just declines when you try to purchase something not eligible or have reached your annual limit.
Eligible expenses include costs of medical treatments and care, co-pays, prescriptions, and all sorts of other "medical" expenses deemed important to healthcare such as prescription glasses and sunglasses, sunscreen, most forms of birth control, bandaids, braces and wraps, the list goes on and on. And sometimes what is or isn't eligible is hilarious. Like $10 Clearsil face wash requires a Rx, but a $150 experimental "light therapy" for face cleansing is eligible...
There's official sources on all things that can or cannot be purchased. But a great way to see what types of things are eligible are to browse stores like FSAStore.com and the red check means it's eligible always, the green Rx means eligible with a prescription or physicians letter of medical necessity.
Official government info can be found here
Damn, how do you even get to that point, can't be comfortable or good for you.
Just another tip. They're available on amazon as well.
I posted this elsewhere yesterday but I just want to brag here. I managed to get this 3Sixteen x Woodlands x Pendleton wool flannel yesterday. It was limited to 12 made.
seavees 12/67 chukka, 3 1/2 years later
the price i paid: with tax, $103, 3 1/2 years ago. retail was $180 back then, and now they go on amazon for $60.
construction: full-grain leather uppers, unlined, stitchdown construction so they can be resoled. the leather is a little on the thin side compared to my allen edmonds and berwicks, but that's to be expected for the price. they originally came with crepe soles that i beat to hell in six months of heavy city usage. i ended up replacing them with a vibram gumlite sole and have had no problems since. at the 3-year mark, the suede heel pad wore through, and i had my cobbler replace it. $20, no big deal.
how i've used them: for virtually everything that doesn't require dress shoes. dates, hiking, winter weather in the northeast-- they've handled it just fine. that said, because they aren't lined, they aren't the best for temperatures below 20 degrees, as i've learned to my detriment. i've used shoe trees occasionally, but i'm not ocd about using them.
sizing: 8.5. my brannock size is 9D. i wear an 8.5eee in allen edmonds and 9 in chuck taylors. they were a little snug at first, but broke in nicely with no troubles.
final analysis: cheaper than desert boots, resoleable, and a really, really solid casual option. i've been very pleasantly surprised for the price.
Testors Enamel Paint Marker-Metallic Gold. Currently $7.91 with Amazon Prime.
Seriously, my process was literally taking the pen and "painting" the grommets. B/c of the pen form factor, it's really more like writing. And the paint comes out very precisely, so I didn't really have any near-accidents. I didn't tape anything b/c due to the small and round nature of the eyelets, it would have been tough to do. And, I figured if I did get paint on the leather, I could remove it pretty quickly before it dried.
If you zoom in on the imgur photo, you can kinda see where I didn't quite paint the entire grommet on the third one from the bottom. Also you can see that the finish isn't super smooth, but I don't think you or anyone else would ever notice it without an up-close inspection.
Sage breakfast sausages. Pan fried.
Wesco just released some without the fringe. Available here.
If you want true no shows you need to search for loafer socks. Something like these.
If you want to go barefoot then by all means go for it though.
The book is available to order in Japan (for example from Amazon), and potential re-print if current copies are sold out. There is interest in translating it to both English and German, though nothing is decided yet.
A tongue pad might do the trick.
After my wife ruined three umbrellas--one that I had since high school--I bought a Blunt and have been very happy with it. She has failed to ruin it, disappointing the coterie of stock-photo photographers that follow her around every time it rains, hoping to catch an iconic image of a damp woman frowning under an inside out umbrella. I was a little skeptical that it would hold up to her abuses, as most umbrella reviews are as believable as a pamphlet of MLM success stories, but these appear to have been legit.
Saphir (no surprise). I'd clean with a brush first to get off all the dirt. Then use Saphir Renomat to clean, then an application of Saphir Renovateur to feed the leather. It looks very thirsty. Maybe 2 applications even. Then polish with a cream polish and finish with a wax polish. Should like almost like new.
If you really are desperate you could take em to a pro. This is one of the shops I go to locally. They just restored a wrecked pair of boots: Before: https://instagram.com/mouldedshoe/p/z26R-COCGj/ After: https://instagram.com/mouldedshoe/p/0Dd33COCOH/
WSIAWT: LeatherSoul Hummus Suede Indys
AotD: Yep. Sucks.
GD: Chance of snow in Seattle next week. Sounds like it won't be nearly as harsh as snowpocalypse of Feb 2019, but always love snow on the ground and trudging around in boots!
Up late working on leather wallet orders. Vacations are great, but that means a backlog of 28 wallets.
I bought a new camera lens (Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens) for wallet pictures. It takes some pretty awesome photos compared to my regular "standard" lense. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.
Got on the wait list for those Carmina Polo Suede boots I mentioned earlier. Hope to get them before fall...
Edit: Bonus time lapse video of hand piercing all the holes with an awl on a couple orders.
>Why is this? Also the tan ones are only $110, why is that such a price difference.
Because that's the way Amazon works, prices even vary from size to size of the exact same color product. If the extra $40 is a huge deal to you, use camelcamelcamel to alert you via email when the price drops down to a level you're willing to pay.
It's also possible that Chippewa has raised their prices since that time, although I don't know if that's the case.
>Would there be a way to darken the light ones so that they are the color of the apaches?
I wouldn't try to darken them if it was me, but you could try using a conditioner or waterproofer that's known to darken or polish them with a darker color. The cost of the tan ones plus whatever product you use to darken is going to be maybe $30 cheaper, so why not save up a bit longer or hold out for a cheaper price to get the color you actually want instead of possibly failing at recreating it?
> I've tried darn tough "no show" socks and they're lies. Lies i tell you. They show.
Filthy lies. I tried them, and my wife said they looked worse than just regular socks. I had to agree.
You can try these, which are washable. They claim you need to hand wash them but I just use a laundry bag. They've been fine after about a dozen washes.
You don't need to buy boot trees for your boots, regular cedar shoe trees will do the job just fine.
No I wouldn't get that shoe rack as you won't be able to put trees in them while they're being stored and it will do nothing to help them retain there structure. If you're going to get a shoe rack get something like this so you can store your shoes with shoe trees in them
I've done a similar thing using actual shoe stretchers with dance shoes.
It works pretty well if you're very careful and are trying to stretch a very specific spot. For my dance shoes, my pinky toe sticks out so I use one of the "bunion" pieces to basically speed up the break-in that eventually happens bc my toe presses that area every time I wear them.
These are also basically handsewns so they have zero internal structure at the toe.
I don't think it's a great solution for really anything else. If the whole toe box is too small, it'll be tough to stretch it out at best.
I also wouldn't do this with trees but with something that will apply more consistent pressure like the dedicated stretchers I linked.
Finally, it's super easy to overdue and stretch the shoe too much or stretch it in the wrong area.
edit: I guess my final verdict is that it's certainly doable, but it's easy to mess up a perfectly good pair of shoes. So it's something I'd do, but would advise against for someone I don't know on the internet.
Pedag arch support insert size large
I got the wrong size through Amazon. I went to return and they just refunded me... So whoever wants to pay for shipping (~$7?) can have these.
Amazon has Danner Mountain Lights in brown and black as low as $106 right now! Normal price is $380.
It looks like the medium widths are the ones that are really cheap. If you don't need EE this might be the ticket for you.
https://www.amazon.com/Danner-Mountain-Light-II-Hiking/dp/B0002L4N0A/
Oh boy I hope people aren't upset that I made this thread, the mid-day WSAYWT threads have been really nice as a post-lunch pre-back to work brain turn off mechanism.
I'm wearing my Grandpa shoes today (Carmina 80377 Oxfords in I have no idea what kind of leather) but they are chunky and heavy and feel indestructible.
I was never really into reading, video games were really my favorite way to experience a story. Since quarantining I've been reading more although I wouldn't say I'm someone who reads often. After moving in with my girlfriend who reads like 2 books a week, I felt compelled to be a little more literate, I just picked this up and am excited to experience the "oh man this would be really cool if it was fiction but it isnt and hnnnnnng."
Happy Tuesday!!!!
I'm seeing Wolverine 1000 Mile Evans on Amazon for $199 right now:
https://smile.amazon.com/Wolverine-Evans-1000-Brown-Leather/dp/B0144R3RJA/
Amazon. Looks like they're currently going for $200-$300 depending on size. A lot of boot for the money IMO.
$69.99 Frye Field Lace-Up boots in size 9 (dark ash color) on Amazon. Currently discounted from $298 to $149 on their own website.
These are GYW, hand sewn, waxed suede. Frye's got a mixed rep and I've never had any of their stuff but I'm giving it a try for that price. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07LB6J3T4 /
I think what makes breaking unhealthy habits so difficult is the feedback loop. For me, when I exercise, it makes me want to eat and get proper sleep so I don't undo the effects of the exercise, thus creating a positive feedback loop. On the other hand, if I have an unhealthy meal, what inevitably goes through my head is "well, so much for eating healthy, messed that one up. Since I messed that up, might as well eat unhealthy for the rest of the day (or week)", thus creating a negative feedback loop.
Not sure how much you're into that stuff, but if so, I'd definitely recommend checking out The Power of Habit. I find it so fascinating.
These boots aren't actually welted but do can you guys help me find out how old these Sorel Boots are? I found them in my Grandpa's basement. He doesn't remember when he bought them. They are made in Canada, which changed in 2000. They're pretty beaten up but they still look nice. Any ideas?
I don't think there exist a shoe that is perfect. To me, those imperfections seem negligible. Can we have context into how many quality shoes you own?
short answer is, 'no i would not return.'
Also, I spent a pretty penny on these carminas in cordovan shell. Look at this 'imperfection' https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNrOEk04j9WpLjMiHka7Wvgt-jwTFNP2Wgojpxog4a7I2or2c7KXyRZIu0ULx-Z9g/photo/AF1QipM-Y94wfal3tKi42YHOobEk9xYtnnU6fleFLiLl?key=ZUdvMzNmZkRZVVpmZ2NYcEs2bWhQcFZCT0d2OVF3
Would you feel the same way with this?
Maker/model: Viberg Service Boot
Size: 8, 2030 last
Leather: Grey Italian Suede
Sole: Vibram cream mini ripple
Price: SOLD
Wears/condition: 3 wears, excellent condition
Notes: Love these boots but the 2030 last is just too narrow for me. There is some marking on the suede from the rawhide laces, please see pics. Will ship with original box, dust bags, extra laces etc. Feel free to ask any questions!
Just grabbed one pair.
Reindeer in 6.5. Saw quite a few of these around, but I liked it and it fit well.
WSIWT: Tricker's - love these things. Supposed to be about 70 today, so sounded like good shoe weather.
AOTD: Quoddy, McNairy, Quoddy, McNairy, and an assortment of other mocs and shoes. Chambray, tees, chinos, a couple Reyn Spooners...
Leather Stuff: Okay, so copper filling my stamps is a neat trick. I've not been able to reproduce it though. Seems only to work on very smooth leather with stamps that have deep, sharp lines. If there's too much grain on the leather, I end up with a copper haze around the stamp.
SQ: What type of leather is a welt made out of? Do they vary?
GD: I am moments away from ordering brown waxed flesh Maliseets from Quoddy, simply waiting on a reply from Elizabeth to make the transaction.
Didn't someone here recently mention they got a discount from Quoddy for being a first time customer?
Edit: Addition: I know robot brought them up recently, but I'm really impressed with what Truman Boot Company has been putting out lately. I've been following his instagram since then and I've enjoyed seeing his slow-but-steady progression and experimentation. This waxed flesh boot reminded me of how delicious WF is and fully convinced me to order the Maliseets.
WSIWT: Chippewa service boots, Pendleton flannel, Gap jeans
Here is a close up of the boots. Huberd's is the real deal for dubbing. I pushed down bits of raised nap and hit these with a horse hair brush.
GD: Round 2 of exams for this term are successfully completed. Only four more weeks of head and neck anatomy...
AOTD: I've listened to Keith and the Girl for 10 years. Almost exactly that long, in fact. I remember starting some time in November 2005. I also listen to Last Podcast on the Left regularly and have a few others like WTF and The Best Show in my occasional listening pile.
My wallet from /u/Deusis came in!
https://instagram.com/p/znTOP6FY6k/
Holy cow (horse?) is this thing thick. When closed there's something like 8 layers of leather... This is my first time handling shell, so any care tips are greatly appreciated. Initial impressions are that it smells amazing, is kinda stiff, has a bit of shine to it, and should age well. I really need the slots to stretch a bit on it, as it's a really snug fit in there. The stitching is a vast improvement over my 1.5yr old wallet.
In cased you missed the PSA in the weekend thread, the Costco merino trail socks are back in stock online after being OOS for a few months. I grabbed a bunch of pairs in person on Friday, so you may be able to find them at your local store. Great value for some quality merino boot socks.
QOTD: I use mostly VSC, or the Allen Edmonds conditioner. Most of my footwear is CXL or shell, so I don't really need to apply conditioner much. I typically just wipe down with a cloth and/or brush.
Let's see how many I can remember...
The internet reminds me I've also seen:
and a bunch more I can't remember. I still have a sad that the Johnny Cash concert I had tickets for got canceled.
Let me emphasize too that Janes Addiction was the biggest most awful piece of shit disappointment of a concert I've ever been to. White Zombie I had free tickets to and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Mike Watt is the coolest musician I've ever met.
Yes, this is literally my expertise. If you're looking at an AE shoe from the past 25 years and it doesn't have a dovetailed heel then 99% of the time it's not shell. Shell rarely displays such an evenness of depth of color like corrected grain always does.
Check for yourself.
Some Chippewa Cordovan colored 6 inch utility boots for around $120 on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Original-Chippewa-Collection-Engineer-Cordovan/dp/B00BP45C5S/). Note, only sizes 8 and below seemed to be in stock at this price.
Got my first pair of boots in shell cordovan last week- first night I wore them, there was a bit of light rain- nothing I'm usually bothered by. But these water spots won't go away!
I had to wait until today because my only horsehair brushes had other oils/waxes on them, and I know you shouldn't have turpentine on shell.
I have the following materials: saphir renovateur, saphir saphir cordovan cream, a clean horsehair brush, and a chamois cloth.
What should I do? Much appreciated folks
My life changed when I discovered the Pizza Pizzazz. I know, I know it looks like a stupid gimmicky thing but it's amazing at reheating anything that needs to be crispy. French fries, fried chicken, roasted veggies, etc. I don't think I'll ever go back to a toaster oven tbh.
Thanks! I used this Manual Crank Shoe Patcher to get them on but hand sewing maybe would’ve been easier to maneuver.
If you're dead set on stretching them shoe trees won't do it. You'll need something like this, or you could bring them to a cobbler and they can do it for you.
Try tongue pads instead. They’ll help push your foot back into the heel cup so you won’t need heel pads.
Go with the wolverine if you want beautifully made and functional leather boots. Amazon has most of their products if you want to check out
Not to say 511 and Timberlands aren't beautifully made and functional, but they wouldn't be as easy to fap to as Wolverines
I purchased this shoe rack when it was on the amazon daily deals. It has a 10 year warranty and was incredibly easy to assemble.
~~For any Canadians out there who happen to be giants, Amazon.ca has size 14 EE Chippewa classic 6" lacers for CAD $89, shipped and sold by Amazon.~~
Edit: Looks like somewhat bought a pair and reset Amazon's pricing algorithm.
someone either stuck on DIY or had put on for them a vibram sole protector/ half sole. I have found those the easiest to DIY; they wear well and they are cheapish on amazon
So this is kinda dumb, but should work. If you're willing to part with ~$60 for a bit you can buy one on Amazon prime for $58. Follow the directions with the help of a very good friend. And then return it once you get your measurements.
They don't offer a metal bracelet sadly. I recently picked up this aftermarket one from Amazon.
Originally got it for my Maratac mid pilot, but ended up liking it a lot on the Stowa, even though it definitely is pretty rugged compared to the watch itself.
Thorogood can be a good bet for smaller sizes, I wear the Roofer in 6.5 (true to size), and it is a good soft-toe work boot for situations where I want a lot of grip from the wedge sole, but don't need my steel toes. Looks like Amazon has a few in smaller sizes available for a good price:
https://www.amazon.com/Thorogood-Mens-Roofer-Black-Boots/dp/B00EQDI4UU/
Their other boots are good as well, and reasonably priced.
As far as other work-ish boots I own in smaller sizes, most are custom... Nicks and Whites do make great boots, but they are more expensive.
Several things:
First and foremost - what an awesome first post in /r/GYW! If you're a representation of what the lurkers here are like, WE NEED MORE LURKERS TO POST! Great job.
I think those boots are stunners - that first pic was really eye-catching.
I agree you are probably mis-sized, and probably it was a "how you hold the pencil" thing. You might try to put an insert (I use the Pedag, specifically their agnora to take up some of the volume. I'm able to go up a half-size in Alden's Barrie and TB lasts by doing this (the width might still be an issue, but worth a shot to save your investment in a great pair of boots).
I think the leather you have is fantastic. The creasing on the vamp looks great for a well-worn pair of boots. Seriously - that's a fantastic piece of leather, and it also looks great IMHO. I want a work-boot like that to look look...worked!
I also think people get a little over-cooked on sole stitching, especially on a rugged/casual boot like this. The stitching appears to be pretty smooth in terms of follow a line/arc and there's nothing that's going to cost you a resole or any function going on.
You are getting close to a resole, but I'd still let it ride unless you just want something new or with lugs/etc. A lot of that heel wear is probably your gait and won't get worse as fast as it got to that point.
Chippewa is probably your best bet. They have various specific makeups from various different retailers. Search around for different options. This one is OOS in 10, but you can probably find it elsewhere.
It should help though it might be tricky to stick them in the right spot. 3/4 length insoles might be a bit easier and should achieve the same result.
The slip will probably lessen once they break in a bit. Whether it will go away completely depends on how bad your heel is slipping. I'd personally try something like a heel pad instead of an insole to see if that remedies the problem first. You stick it right in the back of the shoe and it should give your heel some grip and minimize the slipping.
Are you in the US? If so, Cedar Elements shoe trees sells 6 pairs at $86 on Amazon. I bought a lot of these when they still shipped to Canada (best deal I could ever find up here) and they're on par with any of the other recommended brands here like Woodlore or Moneysworth & Best.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T57HKU2/ref=twister_B00T57HKRU?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1#
My go-to trees since the GYW addiction ravage begun have been from Stratton on Amazon . Good pricing and they come in different sizes.
If you look at the Keswick page on their site they recommend half size down from usual UK size. "LAST No: 4444 These are a generous fit and therefore typically larger by half a size. So, if you normally take a UK size 8, we recommend you try a size 7½." So yeah, they're probably about half a size too big for you. You can try putting some insoles in them to see if those help.
Finally got a chance to wear my Hawaiis with my IRs yesterday, the chunkyness of the boots definitely go well with straight leg jeans.
Edit: Also I don't think disabling downvotes will do much here as I'm guessing it's bots that do it as at <3min this post already has been downvoted once. Personal preference is to use downvote text.
WSIWT: Navy Conistons for the fall.
AOTD1: The Conistons I'm wearing now and my soon to be Trumans that are supposed to be here tomorrow.
AOTD2: Brush them off after wearing and let them dry. Condition when needed with some Bick 4.
GD: Picked up some stuff from Gap with my gap cash. A new warm non-hooded sweater and button down and got some maternity stuff and sweaters for the wife since she's finally showing significantly.
Im no expert, but the creasing seems very minimal. A theory I could think of is that it is due to the stitchdown construction, the upper is inverted during the process which might account for those slight creases. The blemishes, which are just aesthetically, will disappear in one or two wears, but I understand the feeling that you want perfection for that much money. I sorta like the feeling of human handling, rather than machine perfection, but each to their own. At the end of the day, its your choice, and its your boot. Age Bark is beautiful!
Cultizm had a new service boot in what they claim is harness leather.
It looks like the same ones pictured here
AOTD: These RW Postmans from Snake Oil Provisions but they don't have my size. Or at least that is the most recent lust as of yesterday.
Looks like the dark coffee chromepak. Fok said that Viberg was keeping some of it for themselves. So this might be something they'll be stocking.
Actually... probably something from Golden Fox? They have sales often on various websites. They're pretty cheap.
This is maybe the best and only shot that I know of of one of Truman's boots on a christy. There's also the Coyote RO boots on a ripple that /u/Knildo posted awhile back if that counts for anything.
Sorry I couldn't help more!
Awesome, appreciate the insight! I need to buy more Lexol for sure and give your method a go. How long have you had yours? Any pics on hand? Also, I saw these as a 5 month update https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOj2IiTZKgIbbVumcCTODzc672y62oxjP0SqZGkfsEqMpb4ek9n0yF4yvm34Ken-Q?key=TkJLckZnaWdyNVFPLVJ4cUE1ZUQzMG1CQnJtOV9R Seems like a totally different approach to get them looking like this. Versatile leather for sure.
Maker/model: Viberg Service Boot
Size: 8, 2030 last
Leather: Grey Italian Suede
Sole: Vibram cream mini ripple
Price: $425 USD shipped CONUS, Canada
Wears/condition: 3 wears, excellent condition
Notes: Love these boots but the 2030 last is just too narrow for me. There is some marking on the suede from the rawhide laces, please see pics. Will ship with original box, dust bags, extra laces etc. Feel free to ask any questions!
Maker/Model: Viberg Service Boot
Size: 8.5, 1035 last
Leather: Natural Waxed Flesh
Sole: Dainite Sole
Price: ~~$500~~ $450 shipped to CONUS*, also available on Grailed for 5 hundo if you'd rather go that route.*
Wears/Condition: Very lightly used (owned since April, not worn during the summer)
There is some light patina around the heel counter from normal wear and tear but nothing too damning in my opinion, and a couple weeks’ worth of wear on outside of the heels. I have both the original boxes (shipping box and shoebox), shoe bags, extra laces, accessories, and packing materials. It’ll be just like you’re getting a pair from Viberg, just already broken in :)
Love the makeup of these, they’re simply a half size too small for me. I actually ordered another pair in size 9 to replace them. Would like to make a good chunk of my money back to finance the new pair and am in no rush to sell these, so only reasonable offers please.
I’ll cover shipping to CONUS. Will consider shipping back to Canada but it’ll be at cost (typically ~$50 in my experience).

Edited to add Grailed reference
QOTD: Probably my Balmain Jeans
Got my Viberg Brandy's the other day but didn't have time to take fit pics, just too busy. They're very nice. Even though I wear 8's in 2030, seems like 8.5 fits quite well also.
Speaking of Epaulet, anyone have thoughts on the pic of the Epaulet boots that got posted ? The leather looks pretty cool and all they mention is that it's made in Canada. The last is a bit interesting.
The 25% off would put it right in the prices that they have in their sale section, but you get your makeup
WSIWT: Aged Bark Vibergs with these pants that still need a hem, should be getting that done this weekend.
AOTD: Green Bean casserole. It tastes like the holidays.
GD1: I have zero willpower. I found a pair of navy Conistons on eBay new in box last night. I offered to purchase outside eBay still using PayPal so they cut 10% off. $477 shipped seems like a good deal.
GD2: I need a new comforter for our bed. Quite a few people recommended this one from Costco and to get a duvet cover. I’m not sure if that’s good choice or if some sort of wool blanket from Pendleton would be enough to keep warm on its own.
Anybody want to put a guess down on what's up from NEOC?
Looking at the newest picture on https://www.instagram.com/newenglandouterwear/, specifically.
That certainly does look like a very slim toebox, in stitchdown, onto Dainite or similar. Kind of cool to see, especially if they're doing it in-house.
...especially if they end up doing a sample sale!
The soles are torn up from the spiky dirt-bike pegs I have on my bike. And the boots were already dark even before I got them https://www.instagram.com/p/83eWvUykxC/ , I have treated them but they did not darken much compared to what they already where and I'm hoping they will lighten up with wear.
At the price range, I would look into either a pair of trumans on a leather sole or alden plain toe boots (many different make-ups but slightly on the higher side of your budget)
They're made on the service last. For sizing I tried on the display service boots and I believe this is a good example pair. Viberg's derbies look great on their website, but for some reason they don't look as good in everyone's reviews here. There was some discussion about how the proportions are off, which I didn't notice on Dayton's. The service last has an extended toe, which I think really lends itself towards a sleek derby.
For wait times, Andrew said a conservative estimate is 16 weeks, although if make-ups get delayed by leather availability, I might get mine even sooner. Last year they offered a pretty generous discount for the New Year, so if you're not interested in the Latigo leathers you could at least wait to see if they give the discount again.
Are those the Copper Rough & Tough color? Because I think they are supposed to look a little more worn when new. Still though, that's pretty disappointing. My pair is supposed to get here tomorrow, I'll comment back with their quality out of the box.
EDIT: Pictures of my Amazon 30% off Iron Rangers in Amber. Overall, the only things I find fault with are the welt finishes and that 'oily' spot on the right boot. Lovely boots overall!First day wearing them, but bought moleskin this morning just in case it was needed.
ALDEN x EPAULET INNSBRUCK INDY
Maker/Model: Alden for Epaulet Innsbruck Indy
Size: 9D
Leather: Natural CXL
Sole: Alden Commando
Price: $250, I’ll cover shipping to CONUS
Wears/Condition: Used
Notes: I’ll cover shipping to CONUS. Willing to ship to Canada if the price is right. Ships with shoe bags. These are some well-loved boots, but after a recent toe injury they don’t fit me like they used to. Really bummed as I love the natural CXL and the Commando sole, but need something with a little more toe room now. I haven’t babied these, but the soles have a few years of life left in them and I have taken care of the leather. I think they have broken in beautifully.. there are some superficial scuffs/marks you can see that add to the boot’s character. In my opinion this collab is the best version of the Indy. Hopefully you agree!
EDIT: bad link
No wonder people complain about the comfort of Rancourt's Blake line, does not look like it would be very comfortable in the forefoot.
Some impressive work, would love to know how this is done.
Aotd: Only shows I watch on a consistent basis are Better Call Saul and Workaholics. Also really liked The Last Man on Earth, will probably get into that
I have the same pair in tan and wore it through most of the warmer months as is - but had Vibram half-sole added on for better grip in the winter streets. They're still pretty slim, imo. These are about 1.5 years old:

I'm not sure if he offer course or apprenticeship but you can ask Antonio Enrile from Enrile Shoes. He is based in Seville.

Get the CDB's and wait for the price to drop. I think you can get them for $70 just gotta watch the sales / price drops.
Don't overthink them and buy the one that'll make you happier. I don't think it's worthwhile resoling either one unless you really love them. Or just buy another pair after a while.
Favorite lasts:
On shoes I own: Carmina Randa and Filadelfia. Forest is beautiful as well.
On shoes I don't own: the swooping lines of the Corthay 001, on which the Arca is based, make this last the ne plus ultra for sleekness.
These costco wool socks have been very well reviewed and are likely made by Smartwool
Anyone have a feel for what the fit on these is like? I have a pair of Sebago Westbrooks which are made by Rancourt too I think, so should I assume the fit is about the same?

Not the most popular shoe out there but people say they fit like Sperrys.
OSB has been doing waxed flesh since before he hype train around here for it existed. pretty sure they did a run for a store back in 2013 and they were definitely doing WF customs back then. here's one with some wear on them
and how can anyone forget the (in)famous forrester boot
I know Randy the Cobbler does it. I think the conversion looks good. I'll probably send one of my color 8 pairs to him at some point to get the conversion done.
Since you are in NYC your best bets are Moulded Shoe or B.Nelson.
Don't head on down to San Diego! (Or do, the weather here is pretty nice today). The joke was that Alden of San Diego is a website that is owned and run by this guy. He's just an enthusiast with a ton of Alden. Definitely one of the most impressive shoe collections out there. He sometimes sells a pair or two every once in a while when he got tired of them, but that was just as a collector trimming their collection every once in a while. He got inundated with people thinking he was a store, which he's not.
About ready to order a pair of Trumans in the Waxy Mohawk see pic here
I'm debating between the black ripple sole like /u/Knildo or just a dainite sole and can't decide. On one hand, the black ripple soles would be sick but also would make the boots less versatile, but on the other hand, I already have 4 pairs of boots with dainite and 2 with commando outsoles so the dainite would make them too similar (maybe) thoughts?
Yeah something like this is all you need. Alternatively if you don't want to bother with doing it yourself you can just bring it to your local cobbler. They should have some on hand and can fix it up for you pretty cheap.
