TMI Gateway program from the Monroe Institute. It is a binaural meditation program. You can get the audio tracks at The Eye.eu
This is largely about working with the Monroe Institute's Gateway Experience program. It's worth looking into. If you don't want to pay $500 for the home version but don't want to pirate it either, take a look. I've been slowly working through this for the last few months, but I don't really feel ready to comment much on it at this point.
I think many of the polymaths who contributed knowledge to our cosmology were enamored with the mystery! Consider all of the deep roots that science has in alchemy. It's married to magic. They perceived the mysterious beauty and the aliveness of it all. Perhaps the kicker is this: in order to diffract the light of Being, all of us must play it super cool about our Godhood (e.g. it's "just" science). I rememory [sic] the memetic waves the largest NASA photo made on the indranet whenever it was made public. Over 100 million stars! And the most profound thing about it? "1.5 billion pixels that takes up 4.3 GB!" What a galactic view transformed into local metaphor!
This website lists papers that cited his work: https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Stalking-the-Wild-Pendulum%3A-On-the-Mechanics-of-Bentov/8687999419311e36027c22df963b7092c32d4f16
I've completely left my physical body using these types of audio tracks and meditation. Give it a shot if you don't believe it. It was so crazy that I just posted an app on the play store to create binaural audio beats: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.productions.dz.brainwaver
Can someone else do this? Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vuche.asap&hl=en_US or any similar "Spectrum Analyzer" app for your phone. Check at the 15.1 kHz range and see if you have a steady spike at around -60 to -70 dbFS
Why?
15.1 kHz is also the same frequency your brain uses when neurons are firing.
If you have a 15.1 kHz spike in your area, chances are the government has setup shop on the masses there.
Try out my app I just posted on the playstore if you want to make your own binaural audio beats: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.productions.dz.brainwaver
I've achieved astral projection using basically the same method you outlined in your post.

Sounds like fiction to me.

What is described here is exactly the difference between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. The right is intuitive and recognizes trends and patterns, but has no words. The left measures and brings focus, but has no music. They recognize the world through each other, as opposing mirrors. One is not good and the other bad, but they are certainly different in biological nature and psychological function. For anyone interested in learning more about how your brain works, the book The Master and His Emissary by Iain McGilchrist is an incredible read on the subject. (And the audio version is excellent as well.)
Although some may disagree, I highly recommend the following book (and interview.) There is the question of building upon the contents of the book. Many have done that since, but I believe we are living in an amazing period where the contents of the Holographic Universe are being not just seriously studied but manifested, encountered.

What other improbable coincidences?
There's a book that explores many of them:
"Many of the things discovered by accident are important in our everyday lives: Teflon, Velcro, nylon, x-rays, penicillin, safety glass, sugar substitutes, and polyethylene and other plastics. And we owe a debt to accident for some of our deepest scientific knowledge, including Newton's theory of gravitation, the Big Bang theory of Creation, and the discovery of DNA. Even the Rosetta Stone, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the ruins of Pompeii came to light through chance."
I bought two books, one from Leedskalnin himself, and one from some author named R L Poole claiming to decode the said leedskalnin texts. I havent actually read either of them yet, got a looooong list of “to reads” in front but they might jump to the front tbh

A text like the link below might help your thinking because it is about absolute consciousness. This is a primary source text and the product of generations of thinking on that topic and NOT that Deepak Chopra shit.
At the very least, it lays out some of the issues that one could consider. A fundamental question being: how and why does absolute, transcendent consciousness create the universe - or does it? What is the relationship between Consciousness-> time-space -> materiality -> human consciousness?
Of course this is a religious-philosophical text. The realm of absolute consciousness - let alone a generalized accounting of individual subjective consciousness - is a little beyond the realm of scientific thinking at the moment.
This book by Kastrup could be a great prequel to an even deeper philosophical discourse on objective idealism, digital physics, transcendental metaphysics and the physics of time in The Syntellect Hypothesis: Five Paradigms of the Mind's Evolution and the latest Theology of Digital Physics. I'm sure you can find most unanswered questions in these books. Here's a link to TDP on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Theology-Digital-Physics-Consciousness-Interpretation-ebook/dp/B081DN7W1K/
Good read. Reminds me of the Indian concept of Samskara, where your desires in a past life draw you to a body in the next life that can achieve those desires.
Everyone hear should read Swami Abhedananda's Five Lectures on Reincarnation. It's short and fascinating, one lecture talks about how the Indian philosophy of reincarnation predicted evolution thousands of years before darwin
It's free as an ebook on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0084AW97K/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_JwYMEbXYPNA4T
Thank you for your input. I also had severe tension headaches at the time. I am pretty much free of all these negative symptoms now, does this mean that this energy was suppressed somehow?
I'd like to continue with meditation, but I'd like to learn how to avoid these short cuts that result in my brain being literally fried. Could you please point me to some resources on this?
Is "Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha", a good place to start?
John Wheeler trivia: the textbook he and Misner and Thorne put together is both the largest text book (also known as the phone book) and the most readable book with thousands of tensors in it I have ever seen. Seeing it is out of print is nearly as strange as it would be to see Feynman's lectures out of print.
Try "Ramtha: the White Book"
https://www.amazon.ca/Ramtha-White-Book/dp/1578730457
Those who have read both will see it's basically the same concept. In my opinion the white book is far clearer.
NB: I would skip the first 3 chapters as it's unimportant background information. You can find this book in PDF format on the interwebs. :)
Nice, I'll have to check that out.
The Quadrivium has a lot of this cosmic coincidence / geometric correlations as well.
And there's always A little book of coincidence in the solar system
You may be surprised to find out that some biofeedback researchers submit that trained "biofeedbackers" are able to control protein expression in individual cells! New Mind, New Body was the first place I could find wherein the claim was made.
In any event, focusing on the pineal gland (or what the subjective consciousness of the meditator perceives as such) during meditation seems pretty doable.
