I was commissioned to create portraits for the KOF98 Cast. Thought I would share here. Done for a movelist app currently being worked on: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.swamp2k9.kingofmove&hl=en
> Well, not real. Just the steam version.
0_o The steam version is currently the definitive version of the game, as it's the only one that comes with all DLC characters included.

This....exists?
Anywho, any modern laptop with an i3 or better and a non-integrated graphics card will run the game just fine, especially if you turn off dynamic backgrounds. The official recommended specs are as follows:
>OS: Windows7
>Processor: Intel Core i5 2300 and up
>Memory: 4 GB RAM
>Graphics: GeForce GTS 250 , VRAM: 512MB and up
>DirectX: Version 9.0c
>Hard Drive: 5 GB available space
If you want to know if a video card is better than or equivalent to a "GTS 250" consult this list
EDIT: Ditto for CPU's
OBS (Open Broadcasting Software) because it's free and doesn't eat up your computer memory and/or processor.
https://obsproject.com/ otherwise you would have to pay for the other (and somewhat better) ones. And here's a tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJmVI98RVws
If you have a fight stick then I use a Brook adapter https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gam3Gear-Converter-Gamepad-Controller-Keychain/dp/B075462YRF/ref=asc_df_B075462YRF/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310689469388&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12832723877603259187&hvpone=&hvptwo=... Works pretty well.
I’m gunna play the other side of the coin, get a controller with a floating Dpad like this Replica Saturn Controller
The Dpads are sturdy, accurate, comfy, and most of all, they don’t grind your thumb into a nub! It’s a lower price of entry too!
I bought this controller exclusively for fighting games: https://www.amazon.com/Fighting-Commander-PlayStation-Officially-Licensed-4/dp/B01GVOFIAA/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=hori+FC&qid=1647020009&sr=8-1
I consider that a good controller, I'm not going to blame that, that's number one. Sure, I can blame myself OR the game, if its the controller, well then that means I need a stick. Simple as that.
You can buy an Ethernet power line adapter that pass the internet signal through your AC outlet.

Conveniently, someone wrote this: http://hubpages.com/games-hobbies/How-to-get-the-best-King-of-Fighters-storyline-experience
There is a broken link on there for the official Atlus site though. They used to have the important prologues for 13 there. Now you can read those on the app game KOF-i/A 2012.
As for the best games, my favorites are 11 and 13, but playing almost them all feels like the full experience. I would get the first 5 in the Orochi Saga Collection on the Wii or PSP, then 99 on the Wii Virtual Console. For 2000 & 2001.... You might have to pirate it because of their rarity, but if you want to feel better, get KOF 2002: Unlimited Match on the 360 or PC. I recommend getting KOF 2003 on the PS2 because the arranged music and graphics are FAR superior to the Neo Geo's version, and KOF 11 and 13 are easy enough to find. You can get KOF 13 on Steam, which includes the 3 DLC characters.
Any questions?
That's not KOF XI! That's a MUGEN game.
This is what KOF XI character select screen looks like:

I've tried to find the same thing for years now w/o any luck. Your best bet is to import the "MOOK" strategy guides and have someone translate the earlier chapters; they "might" have the changes documented.
From playing all three versions of 98, the major changes:
98 -> 98UM = Top tiers were nerfed hard, and the new characters are now top-tier.
98UM -> 98UMFE = New characters were nerfed, and game seems good/fun No exact tier-listing to be found/made.
Sadly, UMFE was only available in the arcades in Japan prior to the Steam port. The Steam port has decent - terrible net-play. Because of these issues, it's hard to say who's in what tier. I love the game either way
Check out my Android App if you need move-lists :-)
Edit: grammatical errors
Why not get a special fight pad that caters to fighting games. I ordered this with my pre-order of KOF.
I've heard that this is also compatible with PC. There are other models and brands that you can get. However, if you are REALLY going to absorb the fighting game genre and play professionally, eventually you may have to invest in a stick.
Like everyone else says, it's mostly a preference of style and comfort. But it doesn't hurt to at least have a stick to practice with. just in case.
looks like you can still pre-order on amazon, not sure if its available for all regions though
And THIS is why I'm investing in one of THESE - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GVOFIAA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Not that I'm dismaying stick players; i envy their fine-tuned control and there are some things you cannot do with a pad that you can do with a stick. I even tried practicing Bodega-chains with Kyo in KOF XIII with my old 360 stick.
But nothing feels more comfy for me than playing SNK games with pad. Been that way since I started with KOF 98 on the DC. It's a good part of why I love SNK games - All my button are on the face pad, and they're paired up so I just need to press 2 for rolls or blow back. Shoulder buttons are just extra stuff as needed.
DrMaster published them in English, but went out of business in 2009. According to amazon Chi Wan Shun made it. Here is the english version on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/SNK-Vs-Capcom-Chaos-Volume/dp/1597961442
Although, I bought the first volume when it came out here in the Uk and it had this cover http://www.noe-v.com/images/articles/martialmanhua/svcchaos05.jpg
I am actually also looking for an English guide for the KOF98UMOL game. I live in Asia and there is an English version of the game available for it. Not sure if it is available outside Asia but here is a link from the Play Store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playhit.our.kof.en.sgmy
I started playing the game about two weeks ago. It is pretty much P2W but I am toughing it out as a F2P. Currently at Rank 51. Leaving a comment here if in case there would be someone who could point us to an English in-depth guide for the KOF 98 UM OL game, preferably a subreddit or wiki. Enjoy the game. Cheers!
