Lots of talk lately about who should be kept/dealt going forward. This is a super simple survey letting you answer that question.
The context behind that video is actually really sad. Apparently he was dealing with the death of his best friend at the time and was just like wtf why are we talking bout practice right now?
A quote from later on in the same interview according to ESPN:
"I'm upset for one reason: 'Cause I'm in here. I lost. I lost my best friend. I lost him, and I lost this year. Everything is just going downhill for me, as far as just that. You know, as far as my life. And then I'm dealing with this. ... My best friend is dead. Dead. And we lost. And this is what I have to go through for the rest of the summer until the season is all over again."
Sorry, wasn't trying to bring the vibe down I just think the full context is really interesting!
I was just reading an article about rituals in religion and anthropology, and there were some interesting thoughts about how that ties into many secular aspects of modern day life:
> What we’re finding is that football fans that suffer more are also more bonded. Going through bad experiences together is actually a more powerful bonding agent than simply having a good time.
Thought this might help explain some aspects of the Leafs fandom
I dunno if you guys follow them on their social media accounts, but they already seem to have a bit of a bromance going on. You can check out Kapanen's instagram. He deletes photos a lot though so you might want to look fast. And no, I don't know why Alex Nylander is shirtless lmao.
Its fucking garbage, just use r/puckstreams. Very reliable and it's like 720p 30fps minimum. For a decent amount of games, you'll get 1080p 60fps. Its fucking sweet. And the kicker is that some streams have live chats which can be pretty cool depending on the day.
An alternative to that is to get a VPN and just change your location on it. My recommendation is PIA (Private Internet Access), and it's pretty well received across Reddit. Reasonably priced and it's one of the best.
FUCK THE TANK, THAT WAS A GUTTY EFFORT AND THESE ARE THE LEAFS GAMES I LOVE TO WATCH.
GO LEAFS GO!!!!! WIN IT FOR GARRETT!
It's a feature of RES I believe. Unfortunately it doesn't track the history of said ratings, so I have no idea what it was. I also had to reinstall it on this computer some months ago so it's only data since then. I also just realized it includes posts too so it could just be that.
As it stands now, 19 out of the American's 22 skaters have points. Paul Martin is the only one who has played all four games without a point. One of the other two has only dressed once and the other not at all. So it's pretty widespread. (For comparison, it's 14/22 Canada, not great comparison and not very telling because it's really incomparable, but interesting.) It should make Friday's game very exciting.
And it really is Offence against Defence:
Team | Position | Name | Games | Goals | Assists | Points | Rating | IceT/Game |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
USA | Forward | Phil KESSEL | 4 | 5 | 3 | 8 | 6 | 14:34 |
USA | Forward | Joe PAVELSKI | 4 | 1 | 4 | 5 | 2 | 15:31 |
USA | Forward | James VAN RIEMSDYK | 4 | 1 | 4 | 5 | 7 | 14:42 |
Canada | Defender | Drew DOUGHTY | 4 | 4 | 2 | 6 | 3 | 18:28 |
Canada | Defender | Shea WEBER | 4 | 3 | 2 | 5 | 3 | 21:43 |
Canada | Defender | Duncan KEITH | 4 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 4 | 21:25 |
Now for Canada, the point leaders are Doughty and Weber, but Keith leads in +/-. So the Defence is doing great.
But in Leafs news, Kessel and JVR lead in +/- for the states.
I know a lot of people says this doesn't mean anything for the game, but I thought it was a good overview to how both are doing in the tournament.
Edit: If anyone is interested, here is a google docs version of the stats. Easier to look through than the Sochi website.
Most likely, I've used it with my PS3, PS4 and my PC. All you need to do is change the DNS settings on your device.
Everyone once in a while you'll also need to login to the unlocator site, (while connected to the same internet as your Xbox), and click a button to "update your IP".
Most normal people have a dynamic IP address meaning every so often your Internet address will change and Unlocator needs to know about it, so if for some reason it locks you out of the region locked games, that's all you need to do, login, click "Update My IP" and go back into your NHL app.
Do you recall the poll that occurred a few days ago: it was to determine the players we should keep.
Reimer was maybe 3rd last on that poll, significantly lower than Bernier.
I think there are some that believe that neither have proven themselves to be #1s and I'd say I'm definitely in that group right now. Bernier hasn't shown consistency over a season and neither has Reimer.
Even with that said, I'd rank Bernier over Reims though and it's clear most people in the sub feel that way according to that poll.
Edit: Turns out I might have exaggerated Reims being 3rd last but the difference is clear: 22.5% for keeping Reims versus 57.2% for keeping Bernier
I find Private Internet Access is a good work around for the Blackouts, so long as you choose within Canada. The only issue is using it on the phone, as NHL Live checks your phones location settings to see if your using a proxy. It is unable to do so on a laptop/desktop though so there's that.
Feel free to ask any questions if you have them :)
To add to the GCL+Unblock-Us combo, if you get Unblock us first, then go to the GCL subscription page, you can get the American $120 price instead of the Canadian $150 price. Even lets you use a Canadian credit card.
google stakeholder. the reason why you're shamelessly self-promoting is because you do have an interest in TLN increasing its page views, including financial. you're insinuating that TLN has more traffic than r/leafs, which is obviously not true. the bulk of your traffic comes from here but nobody stays.
Wife purchase from Amazon, had an NHL badge if that matters. I think it was this: NHL Toronto Maple Leafs Men's Lacer Heavyweight Hoodie, Large, Dark Royal https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LAFZM10/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_OGDqAbABS8W78
If you sign up before the start of the season the early bird price is $180CAD + tax. The non early bird is, I think, $225CAD + tax. If you sign up in another country it's usually much cheaper, you can also use a VPN to spoof your signup info.
90% of the time I use the Xbox One app. It streams in crystal clear HD but crashes often. Way too often for an app like that in 2018. Occasionally I'll stream on my computer and ChromeCast it to my TV or HDMI input to my TV but there is a lot of lag on the TV output, which is a hardware problem on my end (I'm using my 10yr old laptop and WiFi speed of 25mbps). For the most part the Xbox app does just fine.
Depending on where you live you might get frustrated. I live in Toronto and almost all home Leaf games are blacked out. You can use a VPN to get around this (I'm a big fan of ExpressVPN but it's a paid service). Every week there is a "free game" and sometimes it's a Leaf game, which lets you watch a blacked out game. You are able to watch the replays of blacked out games 48 hours after broadcast. Replays always run flawlessly on Xbox.
I like Gamecentre for the Leaf games that I do get and for all of the other teams I can watch during the intermission. Occasionally I'll sit in front of the TV and do some work and put on a replay of a Coyotes game or maybe a shitshow of another team's game from the previous week. It's an expensive, buggy service but it stops me from buying cable which nice.
I'm an out of market Gamecenter user (Montreal). All games on Sportsnet Ontario and LeafsTV are available, but TSN broadcasted games are blacked out here, so I need to use a proxy server about once a week. And of course CBC games are blacked out but they stream online for free (though that might be ending, thanks Rogers). So Gamecenter is the best option if you also pair it with an IP proxy (Zenmate, Stealthy, unblockus, hola).
I can confirm this, as I grew up in Stayner. The house is on the right on google maps.
Glad you like the shirts!

The campaigns reset every 3 days, so not to worry they'll always be around :)

Some of these guys get a boost in the rankings because they played in the WJC. I believe Dubas actually touched on this at the Sloan Sports Conference. There's plenty of players who play in the tournament who don't become good NHLers and vice versa. Should years of scouting be thrown away because of a knockout tournament? I mean, it never seems to really hinder a player if they have a bad tournament.
I assume the fact that he's 6'4" definitely helps his case. Tyler Johnson put up better stats than Crouse and he wasn't even drafted and look at him in the NHL now. Johnson is also only 5'9".
Crouse posted this on Instagram yesterday... some sort of hint? https://instagram.com/p/z3bGAmEm48/
Of course he can take a discount, he’s got children’s book money coming in
I mean, I'll always suggest what I use. Subbed to Rogers Gamecentre and a service called Unlocator.
Unlocator is $50 for the year, and Gamecentre is ~$200 I can't remember.
Unlocator has a free 7 day trial with no credit card required, but I can vouch for it. Didn't miss a game last year or the year before.
I'm probably beating a dead horse, as I've mentioned it a few times on this sub, but I live just outside Toronto and use a service called Unlocator to get around the blackouts. Free to try, no credit card required, been using it for 2 years now. It can get weird with other apps, like, I can't use DAZN while I have the Unlocator network settings enabled, but, I'm a computer guy so it's no skin off my back, just swap the settings depending on which I'm using.
You're getting downvoted, but I think this is the best option if you're willing to pay. A service like Unblock-Us or Ad-free Time (or a VPN, or multiple other options) will remove the blackouts, you can Chromecast live games, a PS4 or Roku or similar will give you DVR capabilities to pause and rewind and start games late. You can watch games after they air if you missed them. And you get EVERY GAME IN THE LEAGUE. It's not the cheapest option, but it's the most full-featured.
Gamecentre is what I use, but it will black out Leafs games if you live anywhere close to GTA. A workaround to that is to use a paid service called UnoTelly ($5 per month).
If you have cable internet with Rogers, you get Gamecenter for free until Dec 31st. Log in to Gamecentre using your account. (does not work during preseason)
I second this. Had GCL for 3 years now, before that subscribed to the LeafsTV thing for one year online. It was brutal.
With GCL, the $149CAD + $4.99/mo for Unblock-Us means you get every game in HD, no blackouts. I'd suggest viewing via an AppleTV as well - I found the PS3 app to be generally a poorer user experience. The AppleTV HD feeds are crisp and clear. The Unblock-us subscription means you can also get US Netflix.
I'm aware of Hockeystreams as the major competitor but IMO I'm happy paying for GCL - revenues ultimately help build a better and more stable product.
Oh, and for the people saying not to expect a high-quality TV feed, I can say that via AppleTV the 4000kbps signal rivals any HD feed I've seen on TV.
I'm not a web developer. This is a web developer post.
But I am a product designer. Here's a link to my Dribbble page which shows mostly older work since the stuff I've been working on the past year is under heavy NDA. But I'd be down to help with graphics or even design feedback ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I'm guessing even a 1000lb goalie won't fill a net as well as one of these. And I'm sure they've all had plenty of practice scoring on them.
This might be an unpopular experience, but last night I bought one month of SNNow to test it for the Leafs game, and it worked quite well using a Mini PC as my media device, which is connected to my TV.
At first, I tried using the Edge browser and SNNow was a stuttering mess, so I thought that the PC was too underpowered for SNNow, but I switched to Chrome and all the problems went away.
My advice is to try using Chrome, Firefox, and Safari browsers to see if one of them works. Since streaming from the SNNow website appears to have higher system requirements than Netflix, also try the app on your phone to see if the problem might be the stream itself or just the device you're running it on.
Ultimately, Sportsnet needs to fix its player if it doesn't stream smoothly on devices where Netflix works fine. If you can't get it working on your device and they won't offer a refund, it's time to call your credit card and ask for a chargeback on the grounds that you purchased the product under the expectation that it would work properly, but Sportsnet has failed to maintain their end of the agreement, and also won't respond to your requests for a refund.
Hey this would be a perfect gift for my dad! Is this the puzzle? How does it look in person?
I just tried out Mullvad VPN (based on Reddit suggestions) I usually flip it to Vancouver. If I pick the states apparently it just refers you to ESPN+. So I pick Vancouver so still in Canada but outside of leafs region. Didn't work for me. I only paid for a month, so I may try something else next time.
Reddit suggestions in the popular / default subs are generally advertisements, “shills” or people that are gung-ho about 100% transparent “privacy canary” in the mission statement. I’ve tried Surfshark, NordVPN, Proton and Ivacy, mostly using the trial periods to get some free time... Surfshark has been my favourite for reasons I won’t go into. They’re all easy to use but my advice is use trials for free access and decide for yourself.
I was able to get NordVPN working so I could do what you mentioned. Wasn't great though. I wanted to use NordVPN to beat the blackouts then Chromecast to my TV. Turns out using the VPN doesn't allow me to cast. So I can do it but then I have to watch the game on my phone.
I think it would work for you as I use the NHL app on Google tv with NordVPN and it's worked without fail for the last 2 years. I believe as long as the location is based off of your internet you would be fine since when I ise the NHL app and Nord VPN on my android phone it doesn't work because you have to have location services turned on. If anyone has a workaround for that that would be very helpful!
It’s funny, I signed up for NordVPN last month because I wanted to get other regions for Netflix and it straight up did not work. I called their tech support and they said something about all the IPs having been bought up by Netflix and other companies, so it’s basically impossible to do that anymore. I dunno. I canceled about two hours after I’d originally bought a package, it was bullshit to advertise for something they can’t even do (anymore).
Edit: maybe it was ExpressVPN… in any case though.

This is the exact one I ordered, believe it they send the new logo in the puzzle. I was kinda disappointed with that because I wanted to get my mom one with the old logo because she’s been a fan for over 40 years.
Wow I didn't know it got that bad. Canada is a preventative country, but that doesn't always give you the best solutions. Instead of talking about the violence they rather censor it. What happens when you tell a kid there not allowed to do anything?
Its all about open communication.
VPN my reddit Ape. NordVPN is awesome.
I got a 2014 winter classic jersey from this site before and it is pretty good, idk if this is what you're looking for. It ships from China so it takes a few weeks. There's a bit of risk but it's free shipping so it's not expensive at all. The risk being that the quality isn't good, but they have money back guarantee's so its just a hassle if you have to deal with that.
Uhhh, what are you talking about? Here's a recent pic of the guy. I think you were looking at the wrong account.
Edit: the link is currently down, I'll try and find it when everythings up again
Look at Armchair GM tab: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?page=view&resid=803E10377F463FC0!1890&authkey=!AGA-LGfX9HnJabk
Lupul and Robidas' contracts (a collective 8.25) will come off before the Leafs need to pay Marner and Nylander. Increasing cap will have a factor. Plus the possibility Phaneuf is moved. Bottom six guys will be replaced with cheaper ELCs/prove it contracts.
I believe he’s referring to one of the distributed computing networks like Folding at Home. You can use your CPU/GPU to process protein folding simulations which are very compute intensive to speed up research

Are you going to be using your own personal laptop on wifi? If so, you can download this http://hola.org/ . Turn it on when you're down in the US and select Canada as the country you wish to browse from and you should have no problem using GC. This also works if you're in Canada and want US Netflix, etc.
NHL tv or game center. It's changed names a couple times but I typically have gotten all the games here in the Midwest. A good VPN helps too so you can change your location to be outside of the blackout area if the game gets blacked out. I have been using NordVPN and it works fine.
Both from Amazon.
This one is great an I highly recommend. You can get it in double, triple and quad width. Mine is the quad width.

The other one which is the taller one on the left in my image I hate. Way too flimsy and the shelves are too short.

I bought a bunch of his books to give away as gifts. Now all my friends with kids have a copy of The Magician's Secret. Zach Hyman is actually my favourite Leaf currently.
I have an Android phone and tablet, and use ExpressVPN. But from what I know both VPNs work on both phones. Either provider tells you how to set up the VPN manually, which is what you'll have to do on a phone or tablet. As opposed to just installing the browser extension/desktop app on a PC.
A VPN is when you route all of your internet traffic through a server in a different country to make it look like you're in that country. I use a VPN provider called Private Internet Access () which is $30ish a year. When I want to watch a blacked out game I use their software to connect to their Mexican server and then thinks I'm in Mexico. No more blackout
Just use the Zenmate extension for Chrome. Turn it on for the game, after video starts playing, turn it back off.
Hola opens up your home network to everyone on the internet. So they could do illegal things using your IP address. Safer solution is Zenmate.
Thank you. Do you know if game center has all the games? Or just non CBC ones. There's always annoying stipulations.
So gamecenter doesn't have any advanced methodoloy in sorting out your location? I assumed things like Tor wouldn't work but that's good news. I didn't want to pay the $50 with a chance that I couldn't watch Leaf games.
This is very good news, I'll stop shooting pregnant women with BB's from my apartment window for 15 minutes.
thanks for your help man!
yikes witopia is like $50 a year, will this work with Tor or other free ip spoofing services? the ProXPN I currently use to get US Netflix actually caps out at like 300K so it's not particularly ideal for live streamed events either.
TRIPLE EDIT: Will the Service "Unblock Us" work? It seems pretty solid and is a $5 monthly subscription. Not bad.
This one is pretty nice, it has no bloat and gives instant updates. Some customization options too. Just got it a few days ago and I'm pretty happy with it so far. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sports.schedules.scores.hockey.nhl Ps Why do most sports app suck so much?
Hi, I'm Doug Ireland, I'm the PA Announcer, Music Co-ordinator, Statkeeper, Goal Horn Operator and Timekeeper for the Toronto Patriots, Toronto Jr Canadiens, Markham Royals and Newmarket Hurricanes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, as well as fill in PA announcer for the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL, and I Co-Host Offside Talk, a weekly Toronto Maple Leafs oriented podcast. This week we were lucky enough to interview the author of Hockey 365: Daily Stories from the Ice which I highly recommend checking out if you like hockey history, even if you don't like our podcast. If you're looking for something to listen to on the way to/from work consider checking us out, and if you retweet us you could win a free copy of Hockey 365! GO LEAFS GO!
If you're interested in the interview specifically, it starts around the 37:00 minute mark.
I got Tales from the Toronto Maple Leafs Locker Room in a book exchange one year. It was a pretty solid read.
The Lives of Conn Smythe is a good book, its more about Smythe's than the leafs but worth considering. Heres the amazon link in case you're interested: https://www.amazon.ca/Lives-Conn-Smythe-Battlefield-Gardens/dp/0771056842/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1481680924&sr=1-1&keywords=conn+smythe
This one is a pretty interesting read:
"Leafs AbomiNation: The dismayed fan's handbook to why the Leafs stink and how they can rise again"
Good insight as to why we haven't won a cup since '67. Good history lesson too if you want to learn more about all the eras of leaf hockey.
https://www.amazon.ca/Leafs-AbomiNation-dismayed-handbook-stink/dp/0307357767
It's hard to explain if you haven't read the book. Basically David Frost manipulated young boys to do all kinds of bad things and hid behind his title as coach and their hockey ability. Sheldon Keefe and Mike Jefferson/Danton were the first group of boys to get under Frost's control and Adam Keefe was brought along eventually. Frost used peer pressure, persuasion and Sheldon's reluctance to help to get Adam to do things he didn't want to do.
I feel like I haven't explained it well but it's hard to comprehend just what kind of relationship Frost had with these hockey players. Hell you had Mike Danton convicted of hiring someone to kill Frost and they both refute it and are both friends still. It's just all around fucked up.
Edit: Read the review by GMugford for a bit more information: http://www.amazon.ca/The-Lost-Dream-Danton-Canadian/dp/0670065293
