I believe the small rectangular opening next to the port is for a proprietary headphone/microphone thing. The four terminal plug used on all current smart phones and devices for a mic wasn't quite standard then.
Edit: like this one https://www.amazon.com/Official-Nintendo-DS-Headset/dp/B000MXSP2K
>would components like the battery be any decent after all these years?
My DS lite's original battery is still good, but my original DS's died. I think they are reaching the end of their life span, but you can easily buy replacements on Amazon. They are very simple to replace.
>Would it be a better option to go for a New 2DS XL (more than doubles the cost, but I'd rather spend that than spend less in a console that will last for a few months).
Well the 2DS XL is a current gen console and can also play 3DS games and DS games. It depends on if you want to play on a DS or not. If you want the best that the DS ever was, get a DSI XL.
It could also be they are using something like a a 3ds USB charging cable.

I use one of these myself when I travelled.
Rubber pads need to to be replaced or just cleaned..
Buy her a 2DS. They're a DS and more. Not too complicated too. If you buy her this, than all DS Games will work on it, and so will all 3DS games. Here's the link to one on Amazon.
Hope this helps! :)
as a last resort, if you need to repair the contacts and the traces on the board itself aren't corroded, you could try conductive paint. just be careful, and I'd leave it in the plastic while you do this so you don't bridge the connections.
If you have a pair of small cutters (like these from Amazon) and you don't mind breaking the case, you can cut the ones on the right side.
I bought this one here on Amazon for my GBA SP and it works just fine. The EZ Flash iV also works in the Gameboy advance, but you'll save about $15.00 or so by getting the Supercard Mini SD instead.
As for the R4 Card. I have the R4 3DS Dual Core and it DOES act as a passme for the Supercard I use. I would think the R4i Gold probably would do the same - but I don't have one so I can't confirm. But again, you only need the passme / passkey if you want to play DS games on the DS using your Supercard or EZ Flash... Which you wouldn't need to worry about because your R4i Gold 3DS would already give you access to the DS side of things. I hope that make sense.
I edited the original post for the back of the card. And yes i did put it in my Windows 10 machine, here's what i found: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=9CA8815217584864!354016&authkey=!AP5pXQaz7k9W6BE&v=3&ithint=photo%2cpng
Mainly unreadable files, at least not without the right program. The .sav file seams to be recognized by Counterstrike: Global Offensive, but it just opens said game, nothing special happens.
I think this cartridge is just a fake, made to be inexpensive and give th illusion of a defect caused by the buyer to scam people. Luckily, i had PayPals buyer protection...
I just did a shell swap on my ds lite. From what i gathered before doing it, is that this is your best bet for a replacement shell. It’s what I used (purple) and am very happy with it. Doesn’t come with a new hinge though, would need to get that separate.
As far as the flash cart, I found a few forums that recommended this and is what I’m using now. Seemed to be the cheapest way to get the flash cart anyway. It’s an Ace3DS clone, with the kernel and 208 games already loaded. You can remove games you don’t want. I put a new micro SD card in mine because I assumed the Kingston that came in it was a Chinese fake. (Also had to remove 2 of the 208 games during that transfer, guess the files were bad because they couldn’t transfer and stopped the whole process)
That looks like a mini serial cable port. My old police scanner has the same connector for programming. I use one of these USB cables for it: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Bearcat-UBC3300XLT-Scanner-Programming/dp/B08CVKGLDD
I think you'll need to just store them separately. GBA seems to be hard to come by for a good storage case.
Here's a binder that'll hold 10 GBA games on Amazon.
Ultimately the best bet is probably just to get a flashcart like a GBA Everdrive or EZ Omega.
I’d try replacing the battery, the original is like 15 years old. I got the Ostent one on Amazon and it works pretty well so far
I have a small universal charger that I use for a Gameboy SP battery like this
I use this bluetooth adapter with my Buds+. It was designed to be used with a Switch, but it fits my 3DS perfectly (and should also fit your DS fine).
What I like about it is it tucks behind the system nicely and doesn't dangle like a lot of the other styles normally seen.
It has no built-in Bluetooth, so you'd need to plug an external Bluetooth transmitter into the headphone jack. Here's a good one: https://www.amazon.com/ZIIDOO-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Receiver-Wireless/dp/B0829S6K1X/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?c=ts&keywords=MP3+Player+Bluetooth+Transmitters&qid=1658590880&s=mp3&sr=1-4&ts_id=9926003011
Oh I see. Then you need a splitter like this. Just plug the DS in the microphone port, and whatever else you use to listen into the other port. I just tried it with my switch, and I was able to record the sound using the standard Windows recording program.
Yes, that's a standard set and will work.
I personally do a lot of work on small electronics, so I have a set similar to this one: https://www.amazon.com/Precision-Screwdriver-Magnetic-Aluminum-MacBook/dp/B07RYFJTY1/
I think they would fit, i saw it like 4 days ago, but i think DS cartridges would fit, but maybe a lot are needed. This is the one in Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/-/es/241-1-Spee-D-rejilla-drenaje-pulgadas/dp/B000BO67DE?th=1
If I had to guess, he used a bunch of fiber optic cables and a clear vinyl tubing to house them in which fits snugly in the hinges. He installed a LED diode that is hidden inside the right hinge, and it's making contact with the bundle of fiber optic cables.
The fiber optic cable can be purchased from Amazon in a bunch of different thicknesses, and the clear tube from a hardware/plumber store or also Amazon. It could also be rigid plexiglass tubing from the right diameter.

It's very similar to this one. I'm in Colombia and I bought mine from a Colombian website but it's the same idea. The clip only clips horizontally but it doesn't slip off when you rest it vertically against the back. The texture of the plastic keeps it from slipping.
Amazon Japan can do international shipping, so you don't have to use a forwarder.

they should look like this and also have nintendo writing on them iirc
I can't speak for all power adapters. As technology progressed it is just as easy to implement a switching 100~230v adapter.
But for the DS lite, USG-002, you are correct. It is only rated for places in the world that has 100-120v coming out of the walls. Even so there is especially marked adapters for the different markets.
You cannot simply use a passive adapter that change the shape of the prongs. It has to have a transformer inside if you plan to take the charger to places with 220v.
NOT SAFE for DSlite but ok for modern power adapters
GOOD TO GO - a bit overkill for just a dslite.
Alternatively, you can get a USB to dslite cable and use the locally available usb charger (to ensure correct wall prongs).
Yeah, I'd recommend a supercart, which is essentially an SD card in a DS cartridge adapter that runs (preloaded, in this case) games like a normal card. If you have an SD slot on your phone (most smartphones do, alongside the SIM card slot) you can add and remove the games, as well as save data, at will. For example, mine came with the first and second transformers games, but I added the War For Cybertron games as well. Also the elusive House M.D. game, and a strange alien FPS called moon.
Now, I imagine there's 2 concerns you have:
1) Legality And 2) safety
First, no, it is not technically legal, but the DS is an outdated console that nintendo no longer supports or provides, and the only games you can find are secondhand, which means that nintendo has already made their money off of it. To me, a ROM of a game that can't be bought from the producer isn't much different than an official copy given away for free. Piracy is bad, but nintendo doesn't care if it's not new. Take that as you will.
Safety, so I was wary as well, and did a little research before I put it in my sister's hand assembled DS. Rest easy, the worst thing I found was some older carts would "self destruct" by bricking the cart, which worse case scenario means you lose some progress and 30 bucks. However, looking at it from a business standpoint, people aren't gonna buy something that won't work in a week, so the new ones don't do that anymore. If you're worried though, I'd recommend making a backup every now and then.
Hope this made your buying decision easier, good luck!
I prefer the homebrew method mentioned already. Follow the guide, and you can't go wrong.
The R4 is a cool route too, but really just best to do on a standard ds/ds lite.
One thing that's not really gone into in the guide is how to put in games. You'll need to find roms (game files) and copy them over to the rom folder at the root of the Sd card, it'll have a folder for each system like ds, Gameboy, etc. I just delete the rom folder after setup, create a new one called games, and in there add folders named for each system I plan to have games for.
Each game type ranges in size, so since you said you'd like to go with ds and gba games, I'd recommend upgrading your SD card to a 30gb sdhc SD card. It's the max size a dsi can take I believe. The guide will tell you for sure though. Ds roms can get large for certain rpgs and franchises. Gba not so much but there is a lot of variety out there for licensed games and fan made games/translations.
When you're ready for games, stick with trusted sites. I go with this site and a few others, but always have a few backups as most rom sites get shut down sometimes and be careful where you download them from. It won't ruin your dsi if you get a bad rom, but it's like trying to watch a pirated movie or download free songs on livewire in 2006 sometimes.
Same sd, the 2 largest for a dsi are gba and ds. The file formats are typically in rom form, but are denoted by the system. So Gameboy are in .gb, gba are .gba etc.
I always sort mine using folders so it's not a huge mess.
I get my roms from here. Just know that it's a good idea to stick to games you own. Different places have different laws about copyright/pirating. Some places don't care if it's not being produced anymore and you're not profiting from it. Others like in Australia consider it punishable by fines.
sorry man I'm annoying...I have an adapter and tell me if I'm wrong but it seems that these adapters are all the same...
sorry just found this one for the same one which seems to be better doesn't it ?
Well Nintendo never released parts for the system. So their all going to be aftermarket. I’ve bought Nintendo DSi charging port from this seller in the past and they’ve all held up well.
The buttons did work on both, but the one I turned into a macro has a slightly stiffer volume slider. It didn’t affect form/fit/function so I left it alone.
The DS isn’t as easy to open as an SP but they’re not difficult. You don’t have to fully disassemble it either since you’re just servicing the buttons. Just pull the main board out and clean off the contacts with an eraser. Rub till shiny. You’ll see the difference. You can clean the rubber membranes with some soap and water and a toothbrush, then reassemble and test. If it’s still not right then you can buy new membranes. That’d fix the button issues for sure but it’ll change how the buttons feel until you get used to the new rubber.
Search YouTube for ‘DS lite shell swap’ and you’ll find some good videos on breaking down and reassembling them. Also, buy some decent screwdrivers and make sure the blades actually fit the screws. One size too small or large and you can easily strip the screws. I use a knockoff Xiaomi Wiha kit like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BCFWD3C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_5ZPDD16EKT3RTCPPZDKZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Btw, I just have to say that this Reddit app sucks. Twice now I’ve gone to reply to someone and it friggin posts to the main thread instead lol

My guy I don't want money so I am gonna help you 1.get your SD card 2.put it Inside your phone or pc 3.open link go down a bit untill you see .wood R4 kernel. I had something like this a while back
https://www.amazon.com/SDHC-2020-Adapter-Micro-Will/dp/B07YL762C9
On amazon it retails for around 30 dollars for this specific cart that I use. There are other similar carts that can be found on Ebay too at cheaper prices.
https://www.amazon.com/Electromagnetic-Filter-Nintendo-replacement-wholesale-packaging/dp/B00A7CD93G/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_pb_opt?ie=UTF8this is currently out of stock but it’s all that i could find. maybe take it to a repair shop..?
You can buy a replacement shell on eBay or AliExpress (example). Make sure to get the right size (normal vs XL) and whatever color and print you want. Re-shelling is tricky but it's totally doable with only a few tools. The big one being a triwing screwdriver, you can get one for pretty cheap, I like these multi-bit kits (https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Precision-Screwdriver-Magnetic-Electronics/dp/B08S7HKWC7) because they are cheap and have every small driver bit you will ever need.
Something like this would get you by. I used a similar set for years before upgrading to an ifixit kit.
it's actually quite straight forward. the original port has 6 solder points. 4 are structural and 2 are actually for sending power.
the mod chip here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RMTP1BL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_CHB86065A2JK9XWETXQJ
has two contacts visible in the image. those two contacts line up with the two center contacts on the motherboard. the other 4 just get soldered on as well as possible and that's it. it's honestly a drop-in replacement mod. i haven't seen any guides for it online, but I'm fairly sure makho had a video on it at one point.
Good news though, DSi XL is basically the exact same size as the new 3DS XL!
new 3DS XL (closed): 160 mm long, 93.5 mm wide, 21.5 mm tall DSi XL (closed): 161 mm long, 91.4 mm wide, 21.2 mm tall
So any case for a new 3DS XL will work, it might just be a little snug because of that extra 1mm of length.
PowerA's folio cases say any 2DS/3DS system on the packaging and on the amazon listing "officially licensed for DS" so that would be fine. Has space for charger apparently too, but only 4 games.
i recommend you get a GBA everdrive or an R4 gold cart with an emulator, to my knowledge there's no way to hook up the processor from a cart so emulators seem to be the only way
Yes, that is correct. I do not sell that part unfortunately. I get my parts from used consoles so I haven’t had to buy digitizers. Here’s one on amazon that looks good. lenboes Front Outer Panel Touch Screen Digitizer Repair Replacement Glass Lens (NO LCD Screen) with Y-Tool for Nintendo DS Lite DSL NDSL https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078XBBMKW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_NwoRFbHAR0D7P
Having wasted an inordinate amount of time trying to get one that actually fits, this is the exact one I bought a couple months ago that works:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NJPBNUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2-owFbNFAV6AX
Notice the rather thin tab at the top, which is what the phat needs, and why others don't fit.
I found these that claim they will fit the OG DS.
Look on amazon, DSI XL starter kit, I recently got it cause I needed the stylus's in it but its surprisingly cheap considering all the useful stuff you get. Here's a link to one I found, its 20$ whereas mine with the same stuff was 10, but I think thats due to corona.
I have this carrying case for my 2ds.
I bring a spare stylus, quite a few games, and a wall charger with me everywhere I go. Real thin in the backpack.
>Just purchase an aftermarket DSi battery with higher mAh capacity.
Beware of the "higher capacity" listings
Many times you'll see a battery that offers twice the capacity of the original, but in reality, those tend to just be the same capacity, or less.
Rule of thumb: If it claims to be an extended battery, and it's not significantly (psychically) larger, The capacity is fake.
Sure, you could squeeze in a few extra mah's in, and keep it the same size so it will fit in your ds/dsi, But if it claims to be 30+% larger, you'd need to increase the size of the battery.
This worked on mine, but only for a short period of time. I fixed it permanently with DeoxIT. Just take off the back cover (you'll need a tri-wing screwdriver) and spray this stuff into the buttons a few times (work the button a bunch between sprays). I did this a couple weeks ago and they've been working great since.
Get a set of left handed drill bits (Amazon link) then take the smallest one from this kit, press it against the screw head, and turn the drill counter clock wise slowly.
You're trying to get the bit to bite into the head, grab a hold and unscrew it. You can apply a bit of presure.
I think they're on eBay/Amazon.
Here's link:
If you can't get them there, local game stores (Gamestops/etc) probably have it.
Have a nice day!
I bought one of these from target one day and I've never regretted it. This is for the 3DS, but I think it'll fit a DS lite too.
http://www.amazon.com/dreamGEAR-Nintendo-3DS-XL-Comfort-Grip/dp/B008XHCLFO
It makes it so much easier to hold. It's just a big soft rubber thing that slides right on to the 3DS and it's super easy to take off when you want to put it away.
I've seen some listings (particularly on Ebay) for this one that looked pretty shady. Does anyone have experience with this buyer?
Or with a different dock?
I googled "DS Charge Stand Hori" and an Amazon seller came up. The thing also has pretty good reviews there, and it's not too expensive!
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Lite-Charge-Stand/dp/B0014DYJBI
