I soak mine for 20 minutes about once a week, fully submerged. Turn it upside down on a towel for 10 before I put it back on the pebble tray where my other plants are. I also spritz heavily with this air plant fertilizer once a week between watering, I make sure the whole thing is wet from it.
Mine looked like yours when I got it in terms of size and direction of the leaves. I got it about two months ago and it's twice as wide and rounded out in all directions, looks great!
I generally make my own soil by blending a few different ones. This is what I have been using for my water sensitive plants at 1/4 to 1/3 ratio with my miracle grow potting mix:

Pretty much any other coarse cactus/succulent mix works well for improving drainage though. I try to avoid the sand/fine mixes though as they don't seem to help as much.

here it is!! loved it myself so I went and found it.
If you want more furniture/pots and want to get crafty, a lot of stuff you can find in a thrift store can be modified for plants!
Like, you could buy a book case and put some partial shade tolerant plants like Pothos in there, then add wall hanging planters and maybe an airplant grid to the side.
Also, if you have a drill and a special drill bit you could turn old ceramic teapots and teacups into pots by adding a drainage hole.
I was looking for a vine to grow on primitive veranda frames I'm building around my trailer using on-site oak. I planted a Muscadine Grape last year and it is coming back well this Spring but I wanted something that won't lose it's leaves here on the borderline between zones 8 & 9.
Crossvine is a fast grower but not considered invasive like the Wisteria, which I'm also planning to grow.
I bought some Crossvine seeds online yesterday. 40-50 seeds for $4.50, including shipping. They will take about 2 years of nurturing before they start their rapid growth.
personally i only go with the commercial stuff for bugs, i never had any luck with neem oil or any of those oils people swear by. the only exception is for spider mites, i just take the garden hose and jet them right off. i have used this stuff for aphids and leafhoppers before and it worked great, and it's got both the mites and scale listed too. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQLQU6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
you may not have spider mites on there though, i just saw the dots on the leaves and thought maybe that could be it (ive had them on my roses before). if you don't see the webbing or anything though you're probably good
I got this one from Amazon which has been working fine for me, it measures moisture light and pH.Amazon moisture meter

These are the two types I use. The big one on my main plant area focused on the full sun plants, and the little ones in other areas that maybe just need a bit more light. You can go to your local hardware store and ask for puck lights that are 6k or brighter, or a pet store that carries fish stuff and ask for a planted tank light.
Here’s the plant stand - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JYPTLRZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_8Z3N81NH8YDJ73SDSWPD

Like these. They're not even grow lights so they're pretty weak. Begonias don't need a lot of light though so they work pretty well. Yeah mine are all on shelves, there's other things you can do if you don't have shelves to use though. There's grow bulbs you can just stick into floor or desk lamps and things like that.
I have almost nothing but begonias now, but I keep almost all of them under grow lights. They do really well. If anything I prefer doing it this way since I don't have to worry about stuffing as many as possible in front of the windows, I can put them wherever I want.
Personally I've tried a few kinds of lights, strip/bar type are my favorites but I also have used the ones with bendy gooseneck lights, and just regular shop lights. These are the LED strip lights I use most, I've found that for low light plants (the more sensitive species begonias in particular) these were too bright so I switched some out for shop lights instead, but for the plants you have they should work fine. Whatever lights you use, you'll probably need to double up on them on each shelf for your succulents since they have high light needs.
I have two lights here and they’re both great! The floor lamp was a hand-me-down from my dad but it works really well. I’m not sure what it’s called or the wattage but you can search “floor lamp plant light” and find similar items. The clip 4 arm light is from Amazon and has different settings and a timer. It’s also so affordable and the clamp is very sturdy. Here’s the link: https://www.amazon.com/EZORKAS-Dimmable-Spectrum-Adjustable-Goosencck/dp/B086XCJ29B/ref=gp_aw_ybh_a_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=G6KX89MA4NCNHMVZRHQA

I found one that can work continuously for 40 hours, only need to add water once a day, and will not leak within 3 days. I recommend to you
I use these ones from Amazon! They've been keeping my plants so happy throughout the fall and winter so far, they're even strong enough that they started crisping up my maranta!
That specific one? Dunno.
Check Ikea and Amazon (this is pretty close https://www.amazon.com/Ceramic-Round-Flower-Planter-Large/dp/B012X016N4) for circular planters, and also look at bowls (will have to drill holes for bowls, but can get some neat looks if you don't mind doing that)
I follow several accounts on Instagram that focus on what I think you’re looking for.
One is @houseplantjournal He has a book, which when searched on amazon gave plenty of recommendations on other books.
Also, the Instagram accounts @thejungalow is great and I believe they also have a book, and @thesill if you’re in nyc or LA offer courses.
Install Light Meter from Google Play on your Android phone. Check the light by keeping the phone's light sensor above the leaves, if you are getting the light reading above 1000 lx, it's good enough for a low light plant (I'm assuming it's a fern).
I use these: Garsum Sticky Trap,Fruit Fly and Gnat Trap Yellow Sticky Bug Traps for Indoor/Outdoor Use - Insect Catcher for White Flies,Mosquitos,Fungus Gnats,Flying Insects - Disposable Glue Trappers (12 pcs) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZSC4CK1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ctcpFbJMCZ3F
They are not preventative but have significantly reduced the pests for me.
I bought this (MARS HYDRO TS 600W LED Grow Light 2x2 ft Sunlike Full Spectrum Led Grow Lamp Plants Growing Lights for Hydroponic Indoor Seeding Veg and Bloom Greenhouse Growing Light Fixtures Four for 4x4 Coverage https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VL8FZS1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_K8DgFb0C1Y3A8) and like it. I bought a 1000 Watt equivalent at the same time, but I find I never use it because of the fan. The 600W equivalent that I recommend is silent, which is great, and the spectrum seems very close to normal sunlight.
I built it for soldering practice! It's not that great but I feel like my cleanest joints are on that thing here's the kit
Ok.. You will have to order a product from Germany. They are tablets. Get a pill splitter and divide them into eighths and put one in a 500ml spray bottle. Let it dissolve for 30 minutes
I like growing my peace lilies in water because they’re so sensitive to underwatering. In order to grow them in water, you need to clean the soil off the roots completely then place them in a vase with water covering the roots but not the leaves. Eventually your plant will grow water roots. Replace the water once a week to keep it fresh and full of oxygen. You’ll also have to add a complete nutrition fertilizer because your plant won’t have soil to get nutrients from. I like liquidirt. Peace Lilies thrive in water!! Bonus points if you get an aquarium pump for one. This one is $10
I like to lift the pot to test its weight, about once a week. If it feels light/easy to pick up, I'll water it, but if you're concerned about overwatering you can find cheap moisture meters online.
As someone who loves plants and antiques, please don’t modify this cabinet. Drilling holes in it would be such a shame. Could you instead take the door off its hinges and close off the front with wire, mesh, or something else cat-proof?
If you must use it for plants, please put the hole for the grow lights discreetly in a corner. Maybe a top back corner. Using it for aloes and succulents is a great plan, because they won’t need added humidity, which would be awful for the wood.
I have a few favorite lights, but I didn’t see you give dimensions, which is a critical factor. It looks like the cabinet isn’t that wide, so the usual Barrina T5s probably won’t work. This one is square, and this one is a shorter strip. Make sure you get LEDs, because you don’t want to trap heat in the cabinet and ruin the varnish.
I'm not an expert on grow lights, but I've recently installed LED lights under my kitchen cabinets and I've been successfully growing Basil and Mint with no window but the lights only. I got these ones from Amazon. I'm also in the UK.

From what I've heard, misting doesn't really help with humidity. Here is a small humidifier i got for my plants that i really like. Best of luck!
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll share my post there!
As for the potting soil for the Venus fly trap, I use this
My Venus fly traps are all turning black. I think it’s going into its winter hibernation. I’m in zone 7A. Not sure what to do with it…was thinking of sitting it outside for the winter but I’m scared it won’t come back in the spring. :(
On an aside, don’t forget to treat the water with mosquito dunks.
Monios-L T8 LED Grow Light 2ft on Amazon! From what I've seen on other posts here, yes. Your best bet is a small humidifier (this is the one i have), some websites or people may say a pebble tray or to mist the leaves to increase humidity but neither of those really works well enough to make much difference.
They are higly contagious and, as I said, as an ANNUAL it is going to naturally die soon anyway. Spider mites are the most difficult pest to get rid of. You could try these. They got rid of a nasty mealy bug infestation on some of my plants. I have found that spraying mites is a thankless task. Also, you risk getting them established in your domicile. If you have a heat pump you are even more at risk since they love, love, love the hot dry heat a heat pump provides in winter.
Sometimes it is best to bite the bullet. If it was my plant, I would definitely throw it out.
Monsteras are aroids. They like a very well-draining soil. I can’t tell if that’s what this one is in or not. I see some suggestions for a deep watering, which I agree with — if it is in a well draining soil. If not, I suggest mixing 1 part soil + 2 parts perlite + 3 parts orchid bark and planting it in that. Then give it a nice deep watering :)
Monsteras are also climbing plants, so they need something to help them grow upwards, otherwise, they will creep outwards. I find that monsteras do not do well on moss poles because the aerial roots are too long and will grow right through them within a couple weeks. I suggest a wooden or metal trellis or staking it up. These are the stakes I use to prop stems up (make sure you’re getting the length you that will fit your pot/plant): https://www.amazon.com/Thealyn-Support-stemmed-Tomatoes-Gladiolus/dp/B0B185SVFH/ref=mp_s_a_1_30?crid=1A80BCOE8CBTX&keywords=plant+stakes&qid=1666128238&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI3LjEzIiwicXNhIjoiNi45MSIsInFzcCI6IjYuNjgifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=%2Caps%...
Ye I tried them and had varying degrees of success or failure. Overall I would say failure. I don't use them anymore.
What about something like this?
I live in Michigan, so I know how you feel :) I use grow lights, there are cheap ones on Amazon. Personally I like these because they stick with double sided tape provided: Mosthink LED Plant Grow Light... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082PJJC8S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I also have a humidifier for myself that I use in the winter. There’s no substitution for that, but if you aren’t a fan of that idea, you can minimize the harm by keeping the plants grouped together, away from drafty windows and heat vents.
Just a note though — spider mites (common plant pest) love dry air. A humidifier Will help combat those in the winter too.
Also, plants generally need less water in the winter, so cut back on that to avoid root rot.
We have these: Barrina Grow Light, 144W(6 x 24W,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082ZL1Q63?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Love that they have just enough green to make them full spectrum so the light shows mainly white and I can actually see the colors of my plants
Glad to share! This isn't the exact one but it looks almost exactly like this one. It comes with extra light bulbs and has been quite reliable in the past year for me.
Thank you! Assembly was very easy especially when leaving the shelves out, just needed to put a hole in the bottom corner for wires to pass through (we used a desk grommet for computer cables, it works well). The shelves at the back are these magnetic spice racks that we found on Amazon, the back wall being steel makes them hold really well and I use the lip that would support the shelves to give it a little more support. None have ever come undone even with plants and hanging baskets from them!
here is an amazon link as well if harbor freight does not ship to you! amazon cloths
These sorts of cheap meters would be your main competition
They hard to kill. Medium light is best. No direct sunlight for long periods. Water once week unless you live in dry climate. It likes moist soil. But not soggy. I use a moisture meter with my plants. https://www.amazon.com/Censinda-Moisture-Monitor-Hygrometer-Outdoor/dp/B09QX9SG1D/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?crid=2RBJOE9H8UEY&keywords=moisture+meter+for+house+plants&qid=1661739504&sprefix=moisture+me%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-12
It's nigh impossible to get rid of on a spider plant becasue the leaves break so easily. You could try a systemic. I hate using any poison but I did use a systemic on a clivia I had for over forty years when it came down with a bad case of alien mealy bug it had contracted from grocery store orchids.
These are easy to use and work.
As the other post recommended, isolate the plant and check all your other ones. Scale is a common pest on spidey plants.
I'm always propping up plants since I have a lot plus a fair sized garden. I found these on Amazon. They come with connectors so they can be made taller and they are far less expensive than those at Lowe's/
My wife and I have 2 that have grown a lot, we use moss poles. We got a few from Amazon during the pandemic that the top is hollow so you can use the soil stale from the bottom of one and make like a 2x height pole, link below….
The Blooming Jungle Moss Pole - 2... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YVJC7NF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I agree with watering from below, grab a saucer of sorts to keep under it permanently and when you water it just pour the water into the saucer and let it drink up
Buy Mosquito bits - this link is for 30oz for $20, they also have 8oz for $10 but that is only 1 cup worth and you have a lot of plants.
Sprinkle a couple tablespoons onto the top of the soil of your plants and disturb it into the top of the soil, it will leach into the soil (completely safe for the plant) and kill fruit flies as they lay eggs, and also kill babies.

Definitely isolate if it has mites, they are SO contagious! I had success using these for a terrifying mealy bug invasion on a grocery store orchid. They spread to all my orchids in no time and I am sure they were an import since they were three time the size of domestic mealies and they moved fast. They got into a 40 year old clivia as well. I do not like using poisons but I figured no lifeforms in my yard would be affected.
I dunno about mites, though. I think this would kill them but that they might spread before that happens.
I stopped growing the Tradescantias years ago becasue, while they look great in the summer when on the porch, they struggle in the heat of American homes in the winter. They get leggy and no amount of cutting back seemed to result in new center growth.
I have seen well-grown ones on reddit but I do not think it is accidental that they are not as widely available as they were 50 years ago.
Thank you! Seeds are from Amazon

No. I bought these and they’re horrible. You have to super glue them to the wall because it doesn’t come with adhesives. They have better “clips” with adhesives that twist if you want it to climb a wall. I have them on a Pothos and my Ginny and it works great. Leaves gotten bigger since I’ve added them and climb. But this particular clip id avoid. Not much space once the vine gets thicker and would probably cause issues in the future.
I recommend these instead since it’s adjustable and comes with adhesives

THIS is the hygrometer I have. It isn't 100% accurate by ANY means, but it definitely helps to compare areas (so, maybe my prayer plant aquarium isn't at exactly 80%, but it definitely is higher than my bathroom reading 29% in the winter).

Agree with a ton of water once a month! Since succulents are susceptible to root rot, i recommend a moisture meter (like this one), stick it in deep and water when its 80% dry!
I have a calathea and they react really terribly to not being in humidity, namely in that they probably will get spider mites when they get too dry. (Happened almost immediately to mine). My solution was to buy a really small, cheap humidifier and plug it in right next to the plant. This is the one I got but there are plenty of similar ones under 10 dollars. I live in an old apartment and blasting the heat to combat the Illinois weather all winter certainly didn’t help, you might actually get better luck than me with these guys.

Catnip is a great distraction. I put some in a box that was for recycling and the cats just rolled around in it and left me alone. Also how can use such a little tray? I get dirt everywhere!!! I actually bought a really nice planting mat from Amazon sometime in the past couple of weeks and its been great to use. I mean… I still get dirt all over but now at least it’s easier to clean up.
Majesty palm grow 80+ feet in the wild, so more light = more growth, I'd imagine where they are will be perfect. Less light will be less growth. Majesty palm I water in a 5 gallon when the soil is 50% dry, halfway down the pot,as the roots like to go deep. A good indicator would be a simple moisture meter stuck halfway down to let you know exactly when would be perfect to water. Elephant ear require more watering, probably weekly.
I actually got that one from my sister, not sure where she got it from. But I do have another one for some of my other plants that works well. It can be made to 60” tall and you can use 1,2,3, or all 4 of the lights at once. grow light

I see a lot of posts with plants doing very well with that light. I’m sorry can’t help with those lights. I run a full spectrum light for my plants. It’s 100w actual I’ve measured it. I have lettuce, watermelon and various flowers growing under mine even a sugarcane. Here’s the light I use:
Maybe someone with experience with those lights will post.
I was recently gifted this book: The Complete Gardener by Monty Don
I’ve only skimmed through parts of it but so far it’s pretty interesting and seems to be full of good tips and knowledge.
I'm using an identical grow light to this one, which I keep on for 9 hours a day on the blue light setting, since my house doesn't get a lot of sunlight and it's cold outside. I'm using Planta to keep track of watering times for my Daisy seeds, Artillery Fern, and Spider Plant. They all have plates underneath to catch the water draining out of the bottoms. I have a rubber mat underneath a towel for any spills. Any advice as to what I can do better is greatly appreciated!
Like these you put in your gloves or boots when it is very cold - https://www.amazon.ca/HotHands-Hand-Warmers-40-pairs/dp/B0007ZF4OA
Well, you really don't need a different mix for each plant. Any mix with good drainage will do perfectly well for any of those plants, minus grower error of course.
You can make a very good fast-draining mix using just the perlite, orchid bark (make sure it is fine orchid bark, not medium or coarse), and the coir using the 5:1:1 mix discussed here. You will be using coir in place of the peat - and you'll want to use a bit more of it since your bark will have all the dust-sized stuff screened out. So, maybe
5 parts fine orchid bark 2-3 parts coir 1-2 parts perlite
And probably a bit of garden lime to balance the pH - you don't need as much as the link said, since coir isn't as acidic as peat. Maybe 1/2 tablespoon per gallon.
If that seems like a lot of info.. that's really the simplest you're going to get if you want to start making your own potting mixes!
As far as nutrition goes, your best bet is a slow-release fertilizer (I like this one since it has a good ratio for most plants, and micronutrients) mixed with your soil when you make it. Organic additives like worm castings require a soil food web to break down into forms plants can use. This works great for outdoor, in-ground gardening, but not so great for potted plants since the necessary microbes just aren't there in sufficient quantities to provide reliable, regular nutrition.
And, of course, remember that a soil with better drainage is always going to need more frequent watering. That's the trade-off.
Hope that helps.
Amazon. I spent tons of hours trying to find the perfect shelf to meet all my requirements. This wasn't my first choice, but wound up going with it anyways. I think I'll be happy with it long-term.

Mother in Laws Tongue, best to water lightly and leave in the bedroom. Its one of the only plants that actually produce oxygen at night and also awards it the name of "Bedroom Plant". Pot is beginning to look a little small for this one. I would recommend upping the pot by a few cm and watch it flourish.

Within a couple of months you will see new leaves pop up from the base along side existing leaves.

"Mother-in-law’s tongue is an easy care plant. The root ball needs to stay a bit damp and in the winter a bit dryer. Staying too damp for a long time isn’t advisable; the plant would rather be too dry. Don’t water the leaf rosette. Because of its succulent leaves, the Mother-in-law’s tongue can cope well with dry air. Give the plant enough light, it can even cope with full sun. A rest period isn’t absolutely necessary. The Mother-in-law’s tongue is air purifying and improves the humidity level. This improves the environment which is good news to share with your customers." - House plant of the month by Flower Council

Why you should keep a "Snake plant" / "Mother in laws tongue" in the bedroom

Hope this helps OP!
Super annoying, but here’s an easy solution: I purchased this drill bit set on Amazon and successfully put holes in ton of cute but non function (no drainage holes) plant pots

A small grow light will be great! Even something such as replacing indoor lightbulbs with "Daylight" light bulbs help. They emit a white light versus the yellow "soft" bulbs, so tend to cost about 50% more than normal light bulbs.
As with watering, since this does not get much direct light, I would water it when the soil is dry halfway through the pot. You can test this with your finger, a moisture meter , or even a chopstick or pencil. Stick the chopstick or pencil (lead side down) to the bottom and let it sit for 10 minutes. When you pull it out it will be noticeably dry or a little moist and you will be able to tell how deep.
The things around the roots are mesh plugs when nurseries propagate plants in bulk, called FERTISS propagation plug, and theyre supposed to be good but unfortunately they are not biodegradable. They are supposed to be safe around the roots but ive noticed they dont penetrate so well. Once its through, though, its not advisable to remove the mesh if it is tight. It could damage roots too much.
The cause for leaves drooping is either over watering or under watering. That youll have to find a sweet spot. If the soil dries out in 7 days and you water in 14 days then it will be stressed. When in doubt, a cheap soil moisture checker comes in clutch. Worth every penny!
