I even use their limited package and this shit is extremely slow these days and disconnects like every 30mins. I'm really frustrated.

Also OP, don't use speedtest.net for check the internet speed. The ISPs have whitelisted it so it can show unrealistic speeds. Use a service like fast.com
First of all, Good Job! I also learn to make websites by watching youtube and now I'm working as a Website Developer. There are a couple of this I saw you can change it make it look more professional.
I see that you're using WordPress with elementor and Woocommerce.
- The theme you're using is OcewnWP; which is a really good ecommerce theme.
- Make sure the top slider is full width. There is a small margin around it.
- Install RankMath SEO and configure it.
- Use CDN like cloudflare. It's free.
- Follow this link https://gtmetrix.com/reports/y2kcellular.lk/oTFTD4jM/ cloudflare should fix the cache issues and slow loading. If now, look at the "What does this mean" button and you can see how to fix it.
- Buy elementor pro when you have money and make custom header, footer, and custom product pages.
While I agree broadly with the the stuff on the article, anything written on Vice needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
Exhibit A. A lot of bullshit on this one: http://www.vice.com/read/pissing-mouth-australia-skaters-troy-weston "Huge"? how was this even quantified?
Vice is basically Elite Daily for those that have a lower tolerance for shitty writing and unsubstantiated articles.

The majority of the population does not like to challenge their core. Learn some English learn a new technology or even copywriting thing ect. And sell the skill via upwork.com or Fiverr. Still waiting to spoon-feed by government and ministers. That's the tragedy

Am not Lankan,
I was just following the discussion this article generated
But if you are not using HTTPS Everywhere as a power user, you can uninstall it.
Because FF now has it built in.
Read Stories from the History of Ceylon for Children by Marie Musæus-Higgens. I know! It's for kiddies and was written in 1910. But it's unlikely you'll find a more comprehensive or easy-to-digest collection of stories. Highly reccommended.

Appsheet is basically the no-code platforms offered by Google Workspace (Gmail business solution). All the data will be stored on Google Spreadsheets and this application can be customized as you want. The free option has some limitations such as number of apps and the data source limits (you can't connect to a DB). But for most of the small scale businesses can survive with the free offering

If you are interested in technical writing then sites like DigitalOcean and Linode have technical writing programs. they usually pay around $300 per article. I'm not sure how hard it is to get approved though.
I think that would depend on the company and their HR policies, so I can't comment too much on that. I know some companies have strict salary transparency policies though (e.g. Buffer: https://buffer.com/salaries) and they break down the salary calculation (including COL bands) for employees.
This is an Amazon link, but I think you can also order it at Vijitha Yapa.

No prob. And find someone who you can trust. Lot of places will try to charge you extra because you are a tourist. Never use TukTuk. always use Uber or Pickme for rides. Also If you're coming to colombo, use buses to go around this app will help you finding bus numbers and normal prices.

Nah I am actually the opposite, feel pretty unique to represent a small country. Even wear something like this to use as a conversation starter sometimes. Sure occasionally negative topics come up but it's pretty easy to pivot to positive aspects as well.
Asus Rog Strix G15 Ryzen7 4800H/RTX 3050

It takes 10-7 days to arrive at the doorstep.
Yeah, you're 100% right. I had to contact my foreign friend to pay for it in USD and I paid his family in LKR. Therefore I have no idea about how amazon payment system works.
However, using amazon is the best way to buy things like laptops/GPUs/Pc s Without paying over 200,000lkr to local sellers for their Pentium, 4GB laptops
Don't worry about the test too much, do some questions and know the basic stuff. There is a free handbook available at the DMV with all the information you'll need. I used the following app to do practice questions and it was very helpful.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rjapps.roadsigns
In case the link doesn't work, the app is called 'Manthathu' I'm not sure if it's available on IOS.
The test was very straightforward and very modern. It's on a touch screen computer system where you can select your language and answer the questions in the application. I was pleasantly surprised with how modern the system was.
Get and read the handbook if you can, and do all the questions in the app + any other questions you can find. I'm sure you'll be fine.
Trust this helps, good luck.
On the bright side, me and the bois will be starting a pirate boat club, no barriers for entry, and we accept every race and gender as long as you can hold a weapon, climb large ships and shout " look at me, I'm the captain now"....
Only condition is you need to read this book first - https://www.amazon.com/Avoid-Huge-Ships-John-Trimmer/dp/0870334336

Free VPN choices that are generally known to be safe:
I'm using Astrill which works brilliantly for SLT Fibre + Dialog but I don't recommend anyone get it simply because its expensive and unless you need to get through the great FIREwall of China (because you work or study there and that's Astrill strong point) then there are other cheaper options in these comments. I'm sure someone will be along to say the NordVPN is fine although nobody has mentioned at the time of me posting this.
It used to be, but I think now they've made some changes, so you have to activate a few different "modes" of privacy control and watch an ad before actually getting VPN. Might turn into a paid thing in the future, so download a different app to be safe. I've got both Windscribe and ProtonVPN
Packet loss can occur if there are other WiFi networks in neighborhood. I suggest you to check if its the case.
Use this app : WiFi Analyzer
Use that app and make sure the WiFi graphs are not touching each other for best experience.
Airbnb has some listings, maybe you could negotiate a better rate for longer term leases.
LankaPropertyWeb also has listings.
In my case, when I tried a lot of free VPNs like VPN Monster/speedVPN, they just fail to connect to the server (all of those worked fine before i upgraded to unlimited 25), even the paid PrivateVPN is the same unless I turn on the stealth mode.
Not sure if you have access to Wise (ex-Transferwise) but I use it often and never had an issue.
Way lower exchange rates compared to banks anyway.
In case you need a free transfer (only the first transfer is free) you can use my invite:

yeah thats true. I just did the same tests via slt fibre. fast.com hit 87Mbps while ookla went 109Mb/s. so there is still a gap but it could be anything. percentage difference is higher in the dialog connection anyways.

The unlimited 20k connection is only 50Mbps down and 25Mbps upload. Of the two 10K packages (UNLIMITED FLASH 25 and UNLIMITED 25) - The Flash package goes upto 100Mbps (in reality it will be less than that) but then caps at a daily rate of 25Gb of data. P2P, telegram and VPNs are not blocked on the UNLIMITED FLASH package but they are all blocked on the UNLIMITED package. I'm using the UNLIMITED 25 package and a paid VPN bypasses the blocks. I'm able to torrent with no issues as I use Astrill as my VPN.
I found the link
Is there anyone used this and got through? It says only for phones bought from overseas 🙃
Just researching this topic more, here's an example of what happens to local currency in these sort of situations where there is actually a sovereign default, not saying that we are there yet but we're nearly there, and that this would eventually be the fate of the LKR.
USD strengthened 10x against the Argentine Peso in the space of about 6 years from 2015. From 9.5 to 95 Pesos for 1 USD.

"Mata pimpiyek epa" :D But that's sort of direct, so generally don't say that unless they bother you repeatedly.
The Wikitravel phrasebook is quite good, and a friend of mine wrote this about her experiences staying here.
check this out. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/864469 you can get whole house or a room. this is located in Ahangama which is 45 min drive from hikkaduwa. but this is really clam place and very close to beautiful and less crowd Ahangama beach.
I should also mention, we did get a driver and car for one very long trip which was mostly on the motorway. Having A/C was a rare treat and prevented a gruellingly long journey in a tuk-tuk. I'll also mention this involved being put in tuk-tuk, dropped off in middle of nowhere at someone's house with no clear explanation, then eventually guy showed up who we agreed to rate with and he drove us there. Felt a bit sketchy at times, but they were just honest ppl. Also, as for scams, everyone will try to sell you on their 'tourist experience' company. Basically every guy and gal sees themselves as tour guide because country is small enough they can always find a friend to move you around the country...etc. We didn't book many rooms/ didn't have firm plans outside of when we landed (wanted a crashpad immediately after long trip) and before we left (to ensure getting to airport on time), and just used booking apps (hotels.com, booking.com, agorda(Sp?) and that usually worked well).
Use Jdownloader2 you scrubs. https://jdownloader.org/jdownloader2
All these morons using trash like IDM instead of the actual better free open source downloads are the reason even techies in this country are stupid.
If you want to find out the melody(As in Musical Arrangement) of this song, you can try Guitaa as well. For example, here is another sinhala song that I was stuck with for some time. nura wasanthe chords
Is this torrent file downloaded..? if so try changing the extension of the downloaded file to (.Mp4) if this torrent not yet downloaded Use this site (https://www.seedr.cc/) watch your video without downloading.
PS - There's limits when it comes to the size of the torrent.!
Stop talking out of your ass. $900 + $130 in shipping and taxes.. That’s ~205K for a premium ultrabook with an i7 11th Gen, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD and an OLED display.
Oh really. I'm also plan to buy directly form Amazon its around total 1100 USD/222000 LKR with Import Fees Deposit + Shipping Lenovo Flex 5 . (Import Fees Deposit-339.16USD i don't know why other laptop around 51USD as per Amazon the will refund extra). Is all bank restricted to 200USD. if so only option seems to be Kapruka Lenovo Flex 5 price in Kapruka.
Already check with eParcel Freight charge-45USD+Duty & Taxes 75USD almost same as Kapruka. My worry is if i order through Kapruka if shipping delay more than 30 days any warranty claim and if cargo came as damage or not as describe or dead in arrival how we going to return and contact Amazon since Kapruka use their US address to order items.
A PS5 is $900+ on Amazon and Rs 215k in Sri Lanka . Considering the USD is pushing Rs 210+, that's a pretty good price.
$1250 from Amazon, including shipping and import duties. I don’t know if you’ll be able to order it with the new banking restrictions, but if the payment goes through then this should be the cheapest and fastest way to ship it in.
Companies like NordVPN don't keep any logs and are not required to by their government. Many many vpn companies like this. Always choose a vpn based in a freindly jurisdiction. A vpn that keeps logs is useless.
I'm eyeing this model from amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09127DDVT/ref=s9_acss_bw_cg_PCLTMC_6a1_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-2&pf_rd_r=J1BMHQMMMPN2QWF66X1N&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=6a351513-887d-45d5-8c13-f3f2a57424c6&pf_rd_i=565108#
it costs over 400k in SL market and if i buy it through eparcel it will save me nearly 80k. not bad. only worry is the warranty but it is ok i guess. will see. Also is it safe to buy it directly from amazon via their shipping method? Thanks for the reply.
This is the latest app that is available on the Play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=combank.com.combankdigital
Clearly a rushed development project. UI looks slightly modernized at first glance but is unintuitive. Apparently, no serious thought has been given to UX. (Then again no one in Sri Lanka seems to understand that UX is different from UI)
Logging in can be a pain if you are not careful. Too many password changes that don't seem to register, and improperly implemented security protocols. Fingerprint biometrics have been implemented which is nice.
Certain features/functions you'd expect to find are missing or not fully implemented. Transfers are hidden deep in the UI. Transaction details and histories are not available in certain cases. For some bizarre reason, the mobile app does not play nicely with the web version.
Homepage takes time to load fully. That said it's still an improvement over the older apps. The previous app was basically a web wrapper for the old online system which looks like it was made in the 90s.
You can earn up to $37 USD instantly on coinbase. Download the app, verify it by connecting your bank account, and then do the “crypto quiz” for Compound, Celo, and Stellar. There are more but those 3 will give you about $30 in their cryptocurrency. You can instantly swap this to bitcoin cash for no fee, and then withdraw it to your bank.
Not sure how much you would gain from a weekly tutoring session towards your goal. Watching above recommended drama is good. But I think you would need to get a some level of proficiency to enjoy them.
I would get a book (Unfortunately, it seems there aren’t much available. I only found thisSpoken Sinhala: The most unconventional Sinhala Learner's guide and two other on Amazon) to hit the ground running and then try to find someone who can speak in Sinhala with you guys regularly. May be you could offer to practice English with you for a person who is looking to improve their skills as an exchange.
Since OP posted this from a throwaway, I want to point out a big mistake most of Sinhalese parents living in native English speaking countries are doing. They purposely bar their children from learning Sinhala by exclusively using English to talks to them since the birth. They are not only missing out a golden opportunity to brought up a naturally multi-lingual person but also partially screw up their relationship with them (because, there are some instances, one can only express a true feeling in their native language, many of these parents are not native English speakers)
So if anyone who reads this is a parent and can speak more than one language, please do your self and kids a favour, expose them all of the languages you can speak.
Use Utloop-vpn on android and select slt package from there then connect to vpn and you can use it for browsing and things other than zoom. But the speed is slow so if you can deal with it try it out
80GB work and learn pack!
It gives 80GB anytime, and it also allows you to use youtube, whatsapp & browse web.( plus Im getting the 15GB bonus for one more month)
However if you are torrenting, or using FB,insta you would have to use a vpn (so i only download torrents through my phone as vpns for phones offer premium service for free)
Only issue is tho, my friend said that they removed the ability to activate this package as a base package.. if that is true it wont be cheap anymore. I activated this soon as it was introduced
I think this is what u looking for, but i don't think its available in physical format if your looking for something like that
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maduraonline
Depends on the municipality. Kaduwela MC has an app, so does Embilipitiya
Thank you for the tip. I will try the Roku channel tomorrow. Fingers crossed but not much hope anyway. There are several Android apps too that don't work. I have a Dialog phone which is on roaming. I tried using the PureVPN Colombo server but it still gives the "not available in your area" error. I don't mind purchasing a subscription if they have it but they don't. They claim it's available for free. I tried Dialog's live chat and the guy who responded was giving Yanne koheda Malle Pol type answers. Each of the three responses came one hour apart. I wasn't surprised because I know they're service is inherently shitty!
It's cheaper to get it ordered from Amazon than to buy locally from these shops mentioned.

I have a suggestion, if you can increase your budget a bit then go with the helios 300, tech is kinda my hobby, i love tech hence i know about laptops and stuff and i searched the whole internet when i bought my laptop, no company comes close to Acer Predator helios 300 series in terms of values...
Currently it costs about 226k with shipping and you have to add duty on top of that but it will definitely go on sale this year because it does every year, make sure to get this version cause it is the latest one.. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-9750H-Keyboard-PH315-52-78VL/dp/B07QXLFLXT/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=helios+300&qid=1573141680&s=electronics&sr=1-3
A similar spec laptop costs over 300k here in SL. It is absolutely worth for the money.
They usually discount it $100 bucks but then sometimes they do $200. If they do the $100 then you could get it for 207k + tax... if they do the $200 deal which is rare but they do it from time to time then you could get it for 188k + tax.
NordVPN is pretty popular in the Peoples Republic. They setup camp in a former nato facilty with a nuclear bunker... Just for coolness.
I researched internet plans for Sri Lanka last year... As I needed to call my host every 3 days to make Internet work again.... I found no unlimted Internet plan available in Sri Lanka. Is that me beeing bad in googling or Sri Lankan internet companies enjoying to keep customers in leading strings?
I don't have an android device. I'm mostly a desktop user, most of my vpns run on workstations.
However, I did just download ProtonVPN from the App Store to my iPhone which used windscribe priorly. It downloaded and connected without a hitch.
I'd assume then it's a Sri Lankan playstore ban then. But you can just set the playstore to like another country and circumvent it.
In addition to the app mentioned in another reply, you can use this one for checking schedules and booking government operated buses (red ones)
Adam's Peak Silver Tip is quite pricey. You can find it on amazon for about $50 for 1.5oz. It very unlikely that this is his favorite, as its not very common locally and almost all of it is exported. Most people just drink black tea. You can find some good quality ones from Dilmah and Mlesna, both of which are available on amazon.
