Right now everyone's practice test scores are floating due to the terrible wording of new Nbmes. You have decent practice test scores, you have more than a month in front of you so definitely not postpone. Add making Anki on your uworld incorrects and focus on the concepts from this list and you are good to go.
Good luck!
This exam is very overhyped and definitely not that hard as people are telling it is. Focus on knowing the dumbest stuff cold. They will test you on the most basic concepts from each system much more than on some crazy supranuclear palsy that you saw on NBME practice test.
This list will definitely help https://www.notion.so/elitemedicaltutor/Elite-NBME-concepts-outline-2827d4a8e2fc421b95091276c78f9988
I highly recommend doing the things you like throughout the day for at least 2 hours, also having a full 1-day week break when you only will keep up with your Anki reviews.
Would you mind comparing the images from the textbook with the atlas also written by the same editors? I thought flipping through atlas would be more efficient but I don’t know which is better, textbook images or the atlas
We need to verify some details about this event first. Were execs from NBME hosting it? Who answered the question? What was actually said? Etc. idk if it makes much sense for a premature decision to be made before the official release of the decision.
Edit: found link to the event: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_izww8cC-S9WsKHgiZxRxnw?fbclid=IwAR1ls0SVPrDvnhUtu6w4ZwbPiP037KfpNKZaKCg7NQlEPcdel9Vm5IjibYQ
If OP’s info is correct and that was said during the meeting, then that might be correct.
I wonder if there is anyone that who attended that meeting who can directly corroborate that.
Weird that this meeting was over 4 hrs ago and this info is just coming out now?
You can help improve this list, which is based on the most common NBME practice test concepts!
https://www.notion.so/elitemedicaltutor/Elite-NBME-concepts-outline-2827d4a8e2fc421b95091276c78f9988
Focus on the pathoma 1-3 and most dumb topics from each subjects (you can find them here https://www.notion.so/elitemedicaltutor/Elite-NBME-concepts-outline-2827d4a8e2fc421b95091276c78f9988

Hi u/expiredbagels thank you so much for your interest.
Here is a page of some of the sample PDFs (which you will get in-addition to the Notion database): HyGuru Step 1 Notes
In addition, here is the preview of the Notion which you are able to comment on for a few of the systems: Notion Sample HyGuru Notes
Get a thin disposable medical mask that is loose around the ears! Something that looks like this: https://www.amazon.com/Jumbl-Disposable-Protective-Breathable-Comfortable/dp/B088RM13B3/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2S93U084IBP7J&dchild=1&keywords=disposable+masks&qid=1599603500&sprefix=disposabl%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-3
These kinds of masks are light and do not pull at the ears as much as the cloth masks. If you want to be extra safe and prepared, I would take all your practice tests from now wearing a mask. That should get you used to it so that it doesn't cause too much discomfort on test day.
Best of luck!

NBME Top Concepts + FA Outline!

Hi here is an integrative outline for FA and NBME top concepts!!
Definitely go for it, after read of Pathoma 1-3 and https://www.notion.so/Important-NBME-concepts-outline-2827d4a8e2fc421b95091276c78f9988?d=e228183a-d74d-4fb4-9212-1e0c788a125c#1118f35e31944500b8d7d6c0ab72ac4e
The more you study - the less anxiety you have. And you really should push yourself more every day to progress. It's just a straight log and it's literally like in exercises - if you will consistently be doing 10 pushups - it will be harder for you to do 11. So focus on uworld uworld uworld and when you will want to puke - add additional 1 % of uworld.
Before taking UWSA2 I would really suggest you to focus on uworld and these concepts
UWSA2 is not hard but it's horrible. It's literally nothing you have ever seen (so do Step 1) but it really prepares you for the real deal (also most of the questions will appear new for you, because they are tested a little bit twisted way)
Remember - it's an exam for second-year medical students, it's not a doctor exam - and in order to get a good score there - you should just be a very diligent second year medical student! And it's 100% doable, just too overhyped.
Good luck!
We've also put together this helpful guide for the differences between the two: https://www.brainscape.com/academy/brainscape-vs-anki/
Good luck with your studies!
New here and a bit far from taking step 1. Can't you continuously do the amboss trail for 5 days with temp-mail.org ? Or does the trail not give you something you need? That's what I've been doing to study for my NBME school tests
I use sharpie highlighters and Pigma Micron 01 for pens to annotate, works for me! Doesn’t really smear or bleed thru and I have a heavy hand when writing! No problem, happy to help. Not sure what you mean by short way of turning them into zanki. I got a 250+ if that's what you mean, NBME 20-24 240s-250s, UWSA1/2 260s. This is the only book for ethics that I used: https://www.amazon.com/Medical-Ethics-Boards-Conrad-Fischer/dp/125964121X/ref=pd_lpo_14_img_1/133-4915498-2242161?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=125964121X&pd_rd_r=64b1f09f-2d40-499a-bd31-e5e2e543d6a9&pd_rd_w=pMFzs&pd_rd_wg=jrgNj&pf_rd_p=7b36d496-f366-4631-94d3-61b87b52511b&pf_rd_r=T4GJGFW5ZEK8NY05CSR9&psc=1&refRID=T4GJGFW5ZEK8NY05CSR9

The rest of ethics I learned from uworld. Biostat is far higher yield than ethics though so if you don't have time I would focus on Biostat. B&B is high yield for biostats. I did some Amboss ethics & biostat questions and they were pretty solid as well, just leave out any 5 hammer ones since those are meaninglessly difficult. As for Anking, I recommend focusing on high yield cards (check out my mini-write up). I only finished between 60-80% of each Anking deck and I felt satisfied at 60% completion, you won't need more than that if you have a good foundation and know that 60% well. Good luck!
What's your normal daily intake of caffeine? Don't go more than double that on test day. I'm a very sleepy guy. I was falling asleep a lot during dedicated despite 8hrs of sleep a night so I was taking 100mg caffeine in the morning and then 100mg at lunch. I could kind of feel a tolerance building up so I wanted a little extra on test day
On the day of the test I took * 100mg an hour before walking in * 100mg right before walking in. * 100mg after 3rd block * 100mg after the 5th block.
My goal was not to get too jittery but to have a little buzz compared to normal dedicated haha. I didn't want to go over more than double may daily normal or get too jittery so I tried to space it out. I feel like it worked pretty well. The last 100mg maybe wasn't necessary.
https://www.amazon.com/Nutricost-Caffeine-Pills-Serving-Capsules/dp/B01MY5CW7S
I like pills because I can easily keep track of my intake, no calories, and they don't require me to drink something and make me pee more than I need if I don't want to.
Hope this helps!

There's a cheap embryology book that is quite good (<$10 on kindle):
Definitely agree that Sketchy is a great resource - I would also check out my FA outline which covers the same organisms in an organ systems based manner as many of the micro questions are tested via dysfunction in certain organs or multi-system processes.

Of course!
I test the 16th. Don't try anything new, I am an avid coffee drinker so the 5 hour energy doesn't do much for me but I'd say a coldbrew would be a good boost and refreshing!

this is somewhat filled out, so it could help!
NBME 23 always underpredicts due to crazy ethics questions.
Focus on the dumbest concepts there are from each subject - that what will give you the biggest boost. Pathoma 1-3 + these concepts - https://www.notion.so/elitemedicaltutor/Elite-NBME-concepts-outline-2827d4a8e2fc421b95091276c78f9988
You are doing everything great keep it up and do 1 practice test a week (UWSA1 then UWSA 2, then free 120).
DM me for more help.
Check concepts from this list. They appear on every nbme exam
Your main goal is not to be overwhelmed but to continue to push it even more than you did previous day.
Drop annotations - they take a lot of time and imply that you will reread them, which is not the most effective way of learning. I suggest you doing your own ankis on everything you don't know cold and focusing on the most high-yield concepts that you can find here
https://www.notion.so/elitemedicaltutor/Elite-NBME-concepts-outline-2827d4a8e2fc421b95091276c78f9988
Hi! Its Rahul - I have made my most diligent effort to try to cut down on the UWorld block review by creating this resource. I also found it very challenging to have all notes in one place which was another pro in creating these notes. The cons is that all of the questions (new questions which are added) may not be present, in that scenario I advise to relate the new question to a prior question by using CTRL + F.

Here are some samples and I am also offering 20% discount until January 10th! Hope this helps: https://www.notion.so/hyguruprep/HyGuru-Step-1-Notes-3316e88f01044cf2bc9abf7fad982e31

Maturing if on default settings I believe is Cards with an interval over 21 days.

Burying hides the card until the next day. Suspending hides the card indefinitely or until you unsuspend it. If you want to know more, read up on the Anki manual
Hi! Use this integrative outline so you do not have to read the individual beginning sections and you can integrate better first aid
Rahul Usmle tutor
Hi!
I really love this question as I struggled with it during my journey.
All in all, I would split up your break into:
75% of the time review the old material which you covered in your course curriculum. As much as you can I would recommend you to go systems based. You can use this FIRST AID OUTLINE to go through the micro/biochemistry that relates to the organ systems. I would also echo making sure you complete the UWorld related to the organ systems that you would cover.
25% of break you can use to get ahead with the USMLE material coming up after Christmas break - for example, if you are going to start with Neuro/Psych when you come back, then going through some content review related to that system may be helpful.
All in all, take home points:
Hope this helps! DM me if you have any questions!

Hi!
I do not think court cases as much as a wider range of physician communication and ethics questions - I do think what is covered in UW is enough however I have made a quick outline that has also highlighted some important concepts:
Here is the link HyGuru Ethics outline
Hope this helps!
Of course it is possible. You have 3 weeks in front of you - you won't just lay down there do nothing, will you?
Make a list of your weaknesses on which you will start to work straight up.
Focus on doing uworld - you don't need to finish it - you need to retain explanation as much as possible + if you can do it - do anki on it and keep up with your anki reviews.
Also Pathoma 1-3, also this list
https://www.notion.so/Important-NBME-concepts-outline-2827d4a8e2fc421b95091276c78f9988
Keep up with your anki reviews.
Focus on pathoma 1-3
Also this list
https://www.notion.so/Important-NBME-concepts-outline-2827d4a8e2fc421b95091276c78f9988
I'd suggest starting amboss, if you have done uworld 2x and have incorrects already.
There is no proven OTC medication for anxiety. You can try valerian root. I know plenty of people who swear by it; if nothing else you’ll get a nice placebo effect.
It would be best to ask your doctor about a PRN benzodiazepine or beta blocker.
You need to download Anki, which can be found here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/ Like the poster above you (the AnKing himself) said, watch youtube videos to understand how it all works. His series is very helpful.
Integration is key. I agree.
Before delving into a system
Take the list of physiology concepts from FA and map them to the Pathologies you see in Pathoma for example... it'll take you ~30 minutes, however that mapping of content is how I also felt I grasped material better... in an integrated fashion.

Here's my sample Cardio Outline:
Check out this integrative way to also go through FA in correlation with BnB.
Essentially it integrates the first sections of First Aid:
- Biochem (per each system), Micro, Immuno, etc.
Hi - yes, it has taken me hours to make this however I feel as if it is an easy user interface to layer your schedule.
Here is the link: Notion Study Schedule + Resources
Further, I have an integrated First Aid outline embedded in this resource so I would encourage you to check it out as you are going through your organ system review.
Again, Notion and this structure may not be for everyone, but hope you can find value in some of these resources!!
Hi - here is the outline which I made (it integrates first aid to be a bit more intuitive!)
First Aid Integrative Outline (2020)
You will be able to get through the beginning portions of FA (i.e. biochem, immuno, micro, much easier with the systems!). When I looked at the NBMEs I found a lot of the questions were more integrative!
here’s a study schedule to get you through FA in parallel with uworld

Hey! I would definitely check out Notion, I have made a study/productivity method that helps you stay on top of scheduling as pre-made schedules at times are not customizable.

Hey - here is a guide to help your reading:
My advice: watch a run of Pathoma, do focused questions on that system in Rx/Amboss/Kaplan, study relevant biochem, micro, etc. with my outline.
First download Anki from https://apps.ankiweb.net, install the program.
Then download the Zanki deck which you can find here https://www.medschoolanki.com. It should be a .apkg file. After downloading just open it and the cards should automatically be imported into your anki program.
You can refer "last minute histology" for your histology preparation It is a Last minute preparation manual for histology It contains 1)Simplified theory notes 2)High quality H&E slides 3)Hand drawn Histology diagrams 4)Written in simple manner and presented systemic 5)Useful book for undergraduates medical students for their last minute preparation It is available as kindle ebook Read this book from kindle
Hello! Annotation can help increase your learning productivity and help you learn things better! What can further aid this process is utilizing tools that makes it easier to annotate in an efficient manner. And, while there are many great tools out there, we would like to at least mention ourselves, Weava, which is one of the best choices on the market for highlighting and annotating websites and PDFs. Overall, among our 500,000+ users worldwide, our users report on average that Weava saves them 3.8 hours per week. Consider giving us a try and see if it can help you make annotations effectively online.
Have a great day.
Anki is a free flashcard program for your computer. It's truly excellent. You can download it here: https://apps.ankiweb.net/
Sketchy micro/pharm is a subscription video service that has picture-based mnemonics for remembering drugs and bacteria.
The total video time of the physeo videos for biochemistry is just under 11 hours. Now obviously you don't need to watch every single video, but you can also up the speed of the videos with this (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/videospeed/) or the chrome equivalent. Basically it's crammable, but biochem is a shitload of material lol. If you have a friend with pixorize (which is like sketchy for some biochem), you might be able to leech off them for some bcm as well (I'm personally a huge pixorize fan and it helped me tremendously on some biochem questions on my exam, but it's pretty expensive for something you'd only use for 2 weeks)
I'll edit this comment with re-upload when Im home. Edit: https://files.fm/u/z69jsc25
All the cards I mentioned can be be found in the subsections of their respective decks or through a search in your card database as they are pretty well tagged. I'm sorry I don't feel like I can explain well on how to exactly find them but if you check out /r/medicalschoolanki I'm sure they'll have some insight there. Best of luck

This is good but too many words. The most important visual that needs to be assembled, is a data visualization map which shows the prometric centers that are open and the number of seats that are actually available in each.
also would show the number of medical schools in the country and their class sizes. This would drive home that the situation is absolutely impossible.
something like the top one here

I literally wrapped mine around my glasses so it hung loose around the arms of my glasses and did not loop around my ears either (cuz pain for me too). However I have seen people make clips and such so that it doesn't hurt behind the ear. Something like this:
IMG here, you should absolutely know the 50 States and a little geography like what the Gulf coast is, (= leptospirosis). Also have a vague idea about weather conditions by geography, military recruit in Nevada goes for a jog = heat stroke, lung symptoms after an earthquake in California = coccidioidomycosis. Your vignette on Lyme/babesiosis may have no other clue except a NorthEast state name. You need to know where Maine is to know it's Lyme. Bottom line, be able to mark the 50 states on the map before you take the test. I used to use this app, takes 5 minutes a day for one week to ace the offline test. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.truemindgame.quizetatsamericains
yea bose doesn't mix too well with apple. I've had mine for 5 years now, and the mult-device connection has ebbed and flowed. I used to have them paired to phone and macbook pro, but now I just pair them to my laptop.
I got these glasses and they're working ok- I haven't noticed any real eye strain. definitely a yellow tint to the lens, but nothing crazy. I keep my macbook on night mode too which alters the color tone and keeps everything eye-friendly.
As far as your ipad- you're using it as an external monitor with your computer right? Do you really need to separately pair it to your headphones? If its not sidecar compatible, I use Duet. Definitely worth the money. My ipad actually is sidecar compatible, but it kept lagging and sucked at staying connected- I blame the headphones for disrupting the connection...but couldn't find much online about it.
Simply respiratory physiology? And not pharm, path, or anything else?
Des Jardins Cardiopulmonary A&P is a favorite of mine if you wanna peep texts.
I’ve been pleased with my Bose 700s (Bose Noise Cancelling Wireless Bluetooth Headphones 700, with Alexa Voice Control, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q9MJKBV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_D9VkFbX6YN7TV). I don’t think any headphones can filter 100% of noise, especially more “sporadic” noise like sirens. But, these filter constant noises nearly 100% and muffle the rest.
My boyfriend used these from amazon and they works for him. Good luck! 5 Pack Anti-Fog Wipes, Eyeglasses Cleaning Cloths, Cleaning Wipes for Eyeglasses, Tablets,Screens, Lens Wipes for Camera Lenses https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0792RCM27/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UtgcFbVP3P150
If Amazon delivers to your location you can purchase First Aid 2020 on there.https://www.amazon.com/First-USMLE-Step-2020-Thirtieth/dp/1260462048/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=first+aid+2020&qid=1590861851&sr=8-1
I liked using Pathoma as a basis for understanding a lot of the pathophys before lecture, but found the details to be lacking. I filled in the gaps using baby Robbins, which usually covered the lecture material it was missing: https://www.amazon.com/Companion-Robbins-Pathologic-Disease-Pathology-dp-1455754161/dp/1455754161/ref=mt_paperback?_encoding=UTF8&me=&qid=1553884655

I still had to look at slides from class though. Pathology was poorly organized at my school and slides were awful, but they did cover a lot of material and details not found in other sources. Personally, it helped me to first start with other sources and then refer back to the class slides for small details not mentioned elsewhere.
It depends on which subject you are practicing for. I'll just link biochemistry book but just change biochemistry to any other subject name and it will show up. https://www.amazon.com/Lippincotts-Illustrated-Q-Review-Biochemistry/dp/1605473022/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1549012238&sr=1-1&keywords=lippincott+q%26a+biochemistry
Exactly, Basically try not to get overstressed. You can use some nootropic supplements as well if you find it vital. I started using one during exams and I feel like it helped me, but I also started working out three times a week and generally became way healthier so probably everything kinda played with each other. I used this supplement: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G7F4L5S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bet those Sonys would do the trick, however I just wanted to make sure you noticed that they have a 10-ft cord. Of course you can wrap it up, but I've had headphones with long cords in the past and they were always more difficult.
If you're studying in a library or with others around you, make sure you get a pair with closed back. The two you chose do have closed backs so maybe I'm preaching to the choir. Closed backs will prevent your sound from leaking and bothering those around you, and it will also improve the sound isolation if you're studying in a noisy area.
Personally, I have the 32-Ohm version of the Beyerdynamic DT-770s and I can highly recommend them. If they're definitely out of your price range, take a look over at Head-Fi for reviews and the forums also have lots of great information. There are lots of great options in the ~$100 range.
257 here....lots of anatomy on my exam and it was all cracker jack anatomy for the most part...2/3 not covered directly in first aid. 95% of that anatomy on my exam was tested in there. I only got to do half the book so I got lucky...but if you have the time its HY shit with uworld quality explanations! Also embryo was very good there. Lots of good pics too.
The best biochemistry book that I found is Vijay's Underground Guide to Medical Biochemistry and Metabolic Disease. It's less than 100 pages and are all high yield information (my school also focused on organ systems so when it came time to study biochemistry, I was like "oh crap!"...especially since biochem is easy points on Step 1) https://www.amazon.com/Underground-Medical-Biochemistry-Metabloic-Disease/dp/1450722377/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1466516404&sr=1-1&keywords=vijay%27s+underground+guide+to+medical+biochemistry
Could you share what type of questions you've seen people complaining about (or a link to the thread)? I don't think FA handles immune great, but I'm surprised that there would be questions that it isn't enough to answer.
I'm yet to take Step 1, but I thought this book, How the Immune System Works, has both enough detail to expand on principles you may not fully grasp while not being a full-on textbook. Each chapter is broken up into "lectures" that are 5-10 pages long, so it's very digestible but can also be used a reference.
Edit: principals --> principles
