There's a port for Firefox, apparently, but I'd be hesitant to install it when it asks permission for "Access your data for all websites". Lol Fuck that.
Lol 2x is to slow for me, I got a plugin for Firefox that lets me increase it as high as I want. However if you go past 4x speed the audio stops playing. I normally listen to stuff at 3 to 3.5 times speed.
In case anyone is interested the plug in is called: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/videospeed/
You can use the Chrome extension videospeed (also for Firefox) to control the speed of any HTML5 video from inside your browser. Alternatively, just right click to download, then use a video player of your choice (but then you wouldn't be able to see the slides).
1/4th speed live transscript, in Stiefografie Aufbauschrift II
I wanted to transscribe some real-world material, and chose the German daily national TV news „Tagesschau“. I used an addon to decrease the speed to 0.25x, and transscribed the video starting at 0:18 until 0:58 (when the speaker changes). I managed to complete my transscript within ~5s (realtime) of the video finish, after a few partial tries and consultations of my shorthand manual.
I'm still very much learning, so there may be quite a few errors. Recently I've started marking the beginning of each line with a 'BE', to mark the baseline, and, in unlined paper, the scale of the shorthand text.
How does firefox verify whether something is safe? I don't think there is any Recommended video speed controllers, so I just use the one I found: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/videospeed/
It's not the fix I was hoping for, but it's the first thing I've found that works while providing the features I've been looking for.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/videospeed/
It has built-in hotkeys for playback speed, and skip forwards and backward, and the hotkeys appear to be able to be changed, though I haven't tested this yet.
It also has other features that I haven't explored, but it works.
> La vitesse x1,5 voire x2 est ta meilleure amies dans ces cas-là.
Avec l'habitude on monte facilement à 2.5x voire 3x si la personne parle pas vite.
J'utilise ça :

1) This is similar to watching layered movies. First pass if for watching center screen, second pass you see the peripherals. Similarly, first lecture pass you understand material from over-view perspective. Second pass lets you take better, more concise notes.
2) Use browser extensions to enable key-board shortcuts that allow to speed up, jump and rewind. Makes watching a lot more convenient. Firefox/Chrome extensions:
I use this in Firefox (pc/mac not mobile) and it will let me speed up pretty much any video and has better controls than most built in speed controls.
Fantastic! Any plans on making one for Firefox? I'm currently using Video Speed Controller but I'd gladly give yours a try once it (hopefully) makes it to Firefox
I've been using this one for almost a year. Has some shortcut keys as well
Use this extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/videospeed/
I use it all the time to listen at beyond 3x speed. It also doesn’t do the weird chipmunk voice thing. Only problem is audio stops working at 4x speed.
If you are using Chrome, might I suggest Video Speed Controller? Apparently, on both desktop and mobile you can also install the VSC extension on Firefox, but I haven't tried.
For number 1 I recommend Video Speed Controller. It works on almost all video players, has keyboard shortcuts, and you can set a default playback speed.
I'm a fan of Video Speed Controller (this is for firefox, google it for your browser).
It's great, I initially downloaded it for slowing things down to learn them but now I use it a ton to watch youtube videos on 1.5x. Normal speed seems so unnatural to me now.
The total video time of the physeo videos for biochemistry is just under 11 hours. Now obviously you don't need to watch every single video, but you can also up the speed of the videos with this (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/videospeed/) or the chrome equivalent. Basically it's crammable, but biochem is a shitload of material lol. If you have a friend with pixorize (which is like sketchy for some biochem), you might be able to leech off them for some bcm as well (I'm personally a huge pixorize fan and it helped me tremendously on some biochem questions on my exam, but it's pretty expensive for something you'd only use for 2 weeks)
FYI there's a fantastic browser extension called Video Speed Controller. There's a version for Firefox and another for Chrome(/Brave/etc.) and it works on all browser-based videos.
You can just speed/slow down, or save your preferred speed and use that. It's been super useful, because most video controls only give you 1x, 1.5x, 2x, but VSC allows you to set 1.4x, 1.8x, etc. Depending on the video, the granularity can be really helpful.
Fun fact: if you install a video speed extension such as this one on Chrome or this one on Firefox you can speed through the commercials at 9x.
Actually, I have the same problem. Lately, I've been increasing the speed of videos to 1.5x or 2x if the person talking is really slow.
However, some videos are even slower and require additional speed, which is not natively offered by YouTube. Thus, I've been using this add-on to get up to 2.3x or 2.2x speed.
This makes those 10 min videos (which you know are always 10:02 for the double ad money), much less daunting as they are just 5 minutes or less.
Give it a try.
YouTube in HD (720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p) - you can increase or lower max resolution (if internet or computer is slow)
Video Speed Controller (this extension is nice addition)
It's just very odd FF is reporting you don't have OpenGL in Ubuntu, which means Ubuntu is probably running sluggish for you and you might be on a generic barebones video driver. How old is your Mac? I have a 2011 and my video works fine in Ubuntu 17.10...
But yah the keyboard thing is odd, In Ubuntu "Regions and Languages" is the keyboard setup to Macintosh correctly? You might have to remap the keys....
Or try out an extension might be the easiest, something like this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/videospeed/
