Hate to be that guy, but I had to check I was not on /r/badtattoos. The hand is mediocre at best and there is not a uniform circle or ellipse. Solid black shadows and dot shading, you should pic one or the other. At least blend the two.
Before to many jimmy's are rustled, yes I realize.
A lot of personal stuff has happened to me recently. My mom passed away, I broke up with my fiancee of 4 year years, and I was just generally unhappy with myself.
I started reading a few books (No More Mr. Nice Guy and Models by Mark Manson.) and I realized that I was the problem. I was unhappy with myself, where I was at and the lack luster relationships I had with my mom, friends and my fiancee'. I decided that it was time for some more interpersonal change.
I started seeking therapy, and I decided to work on myself . Do what I wanted instead of doing what I thought would make other people happy. Do what I thought would make me a better person, and not what someone else thought.
I never really realized how much I let other people's thoughts, or what I thought they thought, about me. I started to look from within and do what I want, did what I thought was right and generally started to focus on myself. Look from the inside out, not the outside in. (I used to see myself as a character in a video game and did what was best for everyone around me.)
This compass is a constant reminder to redirect, check my intentions and look from within. Be genuine, authentic. Be me, be myself - even if it means making someone unhappy or disagreeing with someone.
I hate to break it to you (unless this was your intention), but the Biohazard tattoo was adopted by the gay community to identify people who are HIV+
The basic Bamboo is only $57 on amazon and that'll be plenty good enough to learn with.
That's not a problem, I've been teaching genetics for quite some time. Triplets of DNA/RNA nucleotides code for specific amino acids, GAC codes for Aspartic acid, which has the single-letter abbreviation D.
D: Aspartic acid, GAC A: Alanine, GCC R: Arginine, AGA W: Tryptophan, TGG I: Isoleucine, ATC N: Asparagine,AAC
Khan academy has a nice video on it here.
I didn't downvote you. But there's this site called Google which will show you that you're wrong. You really should look into getting access to that site.

I am the artist, not the client. Total tattoo time was approximately 3.5 hours over two sessions. It was the client's first tattoo. If you'd like to see more of my work, check out my Insta @adamskytattoos. Thanks for looking!
Was just about to ask you if it was from Florian! He is a great graphic designer, one of my favourite artists. Love the way he mixes water colour and digital media.
Edit: Here's a link to most of his football work for anyone interested.
I hate to burst your bubble but I think that dude just ripped off some shit from tumblr.
Just keep scrolling until you see it.
I'm obese. I'm not planning to get any tattoos on my thighs until I lose weight because I want to minimize any tattoo distortion caused by weight loss. However I have a tattoo on my calf, which is pretty fat (but without cellulite). My tattoo looks fine. I think it's more difficult for tattoo artists to stretch the skin on fatty areas, but they are professionals and they can handle it. I've seen great tattoos on people of all sizes. Here is mine if you are wondering. https://www.flickr.com/photos/31459663@N05/13700565963/
I recommend going with a design that has curved lines rather than straight, that will minimize the influence of cellulite, and weight gain/loss. Also, don't get a tattoo that is too small.
Not sure why you're calling it a scam if you've seen the heavily faded tattoos. Most will take a lot of sessions so just leaving it slightly faded is sometimes the easiest route, or faded enough to then get it covered up. You can see here (local tattoo removal company) they post a lot of before and after with how many sessions it took.
Not saying some of this wasn’t still hanging around in the 90’s in thrift stores, but the triangles and squiggles are an 80’s design called The Memphis Group aesthetic. Wouldn’t have been caught dead with this stuff in the 90’s. Nice tattoo, though. https://creativemarket.com/blog/trend-alert-1980s-memphis-design
Yah, pretty similar to the post-it, here's the notepad and the connect-the-dots even though that's not exactly useful, it sure is fun
I'm definitely curious to see what others post
I am the artist, not the client. Total tattoo time was about 18 hours over six sessions. You can check out a more encompassing photo of the entire tattoo posted here. If you'd like to check out more of my tattooing, please visit my Insta: @adamskytattoos. Thanks for looking!
If anyone is curious, here's a comparison of the photo the tattoo is based on. :)
It's not 100% done; I'm going back in June to get a watercolor background similar to this other piece he did. My arm was getting pretty swollen so I opted to have the background done on another day.
Oh sweet jesus...yeah, there is no chance you can get a cover up of that without laser. Your only option without laser would be to get a black band (which a lot of people do but it's not everyones thing). Here is an Instagram account of my local laser specialist that posts before and afters and says how many treatments they took so you get a bit of an idea of how many you're in for and what is possible.
Are you looking to get it removed "completely" or faded enough so that you can just cover it up with another tattoo?
The whole process takes a lot of time but if you stick with it you can get good results. Depending on how dark the ink is it could take anywhere from 4-6 treatments to get it to a point of coverable and more for it to be "completely" removed (there often will be remnants but enough where you'll be ok with it)
Here is an example of one with a bit more colour in it that has red (hardest colour to remove) and it's 6 treatments to cover well. You can see a lot of other examples here to get an idea treatment wise of how many.
Sorry, but if your friend is doing stuff like this and you're saying he's very talented, then you really should be going to a different tattoo artist. He looks like a beginner, and his color work still needs a bit of finesse before he attempts to do something like what you're aiming to get. Above all else, SKILL should matter over PRICE. Being cheap will earn you a cheap-looking tattoo more often than not.
What you should be doing is asking him to draw it out for you first before making such a huge decision. The fact that you posted the same response three times instead of individually responding makes me think you aren't the type to really think things through enough.
I have no personal experience with this, but your question sparked my interest and so I looked around a bit. Best I could find was this: http://www.ehow.com/how_2156644_use-cremation-ashes-memorial-tattoo.html Sorry for your loss, and good luck with the ink. Be sure to post when you get it!
The Lost Thing is a picture book by Shaun Tan. I've always loved Tan's art and the stories he tells and Jake's artwork really called out to me. Here's an album of some references he used. Thank's for looking.
EDIT: Going in for a touch up when it's all healed to add in some extra red in places. For example: The very top little horn thing on the lid.
You seem pretty level headed so I in no way direct this towards you, but it just seems that plenty of people on here don't like traditional and critique it from that frame of reference, which I dont think is fair.
In plenty of traditional pieces you will have a warped sense of perspective and this is totally intentional / part of the style.. Check this out https://www.instagram.com/p/8I2yIAqSAL/
I mean you could say that girls ass is totally warped, but I love this artist, love that piece and am definitely not alone in that.
My chest is actually over 2 years old now and ive added a half sleeve and a foot tattoo to my collection. All done by the same artist. I posted a timelapse of my foot being done in this same reddit. https://vimeo.com/44697145
Yea I was thinking about having blood on it.
The way I see it in my mind is along the lines of this .
Its by Shawn Coss and I was thinking of having the crow hold the Purple Daisy in its beak.

Laughing buddha by Kameron and a pineapple by Amir
Printing out your design and tracing over it with a sharpie onto a pair of pantyhose is a very simple, cheap way to test it out on various parts of your body.
My wife and I have gotten good results from Alastair at Kaleidoscope Tattoo (formally of Rt 9 Tattoo). He's very good at coloring and shading which it looks the bulk of your link would be.
I love your reasoning, and also have really always considered myself to be "chaotic good." Whether in D&D or real life.
I may be old fashioned, but I dislike the font. I was always partial to the Blackletter style of fonts. Yeah, it's been done, maybe overdone even, but this is my opinion.
Also, any tattooer worth their salt would draw something up for you first, and let you keep changing it until you saw what you wanted. It's permanent and it's your first- if they don't understand that then walk away.
Hope to help!
I like the minimalist circle Ensos on this pinterest board - its full of minimalist tattoos. I like forearm tattoos because the owner of the tattoo can see them often unlike a back tattoo. But it would cause problems with professionalism as I work in an office.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a9/Amino_Acids.svg
Check out this table, it gives the single-letter codes and structures for the amino acids.
I used ACD ChemSketch to make the peptide bonds and design the final layout of the stencil.

Well, I can only tell you about the japanese meaning but.. yeah.. dragon.
HOWEVER! Symbols often have more meaning than a simple translation. Especially in Chinese. Just to give your friend hope.
Tattoo ink is underneath the layer of skin that contains melanin, so no. Here is a more detailed explanation. https://www.quora.com/Why-dont-black-people-have-white-tattoos-Is-there-no-white-ink/answer/Lindsay-Gravina
That much coverage in one design is going to end up being a huge financial commitment for you and a big portfolio opportunity for your artist, so definitely take your time, go through lots of portfolios. Pay attention not only to what the design looks like but how it works with the body.
Talk to the artists you're most excited about and get a sense for how interested/excited they are for the project. I went to a famous artist at one of the shops on Bamin's list (which is a good one), and my tattoo has a small error only I will ever notice- but I'm pretty sure it's there because my artist- while nice, and talented, didn't really give a damn about the work.
Good for you planning to go big- you won't regret it (as long as you can still hide it for sober occasions). Start a folder with sketches, magazine clippings, inspiration, etc. Take the designs or mockups you're thinking about and put them up on your wall, make 'em your computer wallpaper, etc- if you don't get sick of them in six months, that part's good to go.
Also, no offense, but your spelling sucks- make sure everything is double/triple checked in the layout, text and design before making it permanent. Don't want to end up like these guys: http://www.metafilter.com/60208/ChiTonw-You-read-that-right-Want-a-tattoo
And you know what? You're the one living with it, get the design you like (for whatever reason). Lots of people who hate tribal tattoos on the Internet turn out to have ironic Pac-Man leg sleeves or whatever. Everyone's taste is different.
Lily at Atomic Tattoo in Austin, TX. Not only is she the only person I will go to for art, but she's got some great cover-up work. We know a guy who would do things just to see how much pain he could take, one of which was to get a large tattoo on his ribs. Then he got that covered up (or half covered), then decided it needed to be covered again. Against all odds, Lily came up with a design that would manage to cover everything he has so far and still look good in the process. Every other artist who knows about the whole thing has just gotten a deer in the headlights expression and said "good luck."
Edit: not sure if she has her album set to private, but if you can see this, this is a matching tattoo cover up on three different people she did.
He used to own Built 4 Speed Tattoo shop Here, but moved to Sweden(?). I believe he's back in Orlando now, but I don't know where/if he's working. Maybe check his FB Profile.
Remember that aftercare and sun block are also huge factors in how a tattoo ages. Sun destroys tattoos because it's damaging your skin (the medium the tattoo artist uses)
Tattoos on areas of the body that don't typically see much sun will hold up much nicer than places like shoulders, legs, chest...places that are exposed often.
Some sources: eHow & BellaOnline (blog, but good info)
Thank you everyone!! This was taken at the end of the session hence why it's so shiny and bright. Also to clarify Lou is a very lovely and talented lady - her instagram is here: https://www.instagram.com/official_louhoppertattoo/
I sent my artist an email with my idea (qilin on upper arm, peonies in background) along with some references for poses and pictures of previous tattoos he'd done that I'd really liked. We ended up nixing the flowers because I didn't want to distract from the main subject. Everything was drawn by him and I didn't actually see the design until the night before when he posted it on instagram.
My case is a little atypical because I traveled out of state for the tattoo so I couldn't go in for an in-person consultation. If I had, we probably wouldn't have discovered on the day of my appointment that my arm was too small for the planned design, haha. It all worked out in the end though!
Tim Biedron at Pioneer in Chicago (appointment only shop, no walk ins) https://www.facebook.com/timbiedron
Jason Vaughn at Deluxe Tattoo in Chicago (everyone in that shop is top notch.) www.jasonvaughntattoos.com
David Bruehl at Think Ink in Norman, OK www.brhltattoos.com
Chad Koeplinger at Tattoo Paradise in DC (also travels a lot) https://www.facebook.com/chadkoeplinger
I don't know if this was ever debunked, but the 3DS tattoo is the most interactive tattoo I have seen.
There's a sort of background design that includes stylized lines and swirls. You can see it better in this photo, which was taken prior to shading. Then I have my Roman numerals and wing partial sleeve up above. :)
Do you have any way to travel? If so Rachel Hauer is in Brooklyn and does mainly black-work only, and somewhat specialises in botanical work. I got some apple blossoms from her when she guested at a shop in London. I love them and really enjoyed working with her.
>I was wondering if you all think it could be done with out looking cartoonish?
Yes. The style you're looking for is called photo-realism.
>What you would think it meant when you saw it?
I wouldn't assume it meant anything. For all I know it means you thought this was a cool idea for a tattoo.
>And if anyone has any examples of anything similar?
Well, I gave the calendar to the tattoo artist, so I don't have the image to be able to upload it, nor am I able to tell you who drew it. There were a few artists involved.
This is the calendar it's from, though, if that might help you find the image. I think Douglas Carrel is the person who drew it, but my Google-fu is not strong, so I can't guarantee that I'm right.
There is nothing in there policies specifically against Tattoo's. However, you will probably need to watch some of the photos that you post on the site as to not come under objectionable content. I would take some time and read: http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/static.py?hl=en&guide=1316546&page=guide.cs
I'm not super familiar with Sydney artists but you could see if Sophia Baughan does anything small (she's more well known for big pieces but also does quite danity outlines).
They post a few face tattoos here though you'll have to search pretty deep for more feminine looking ones. Generally mandalas coming off the ear are quite nice looking.
Just make sure you're going somewhere that is for cosmetic tattooing. They will give you the look of individual hairs and not two thin lines on your head. You want your eyebrows looking like these in the end.
Check out Inkers Downunder, the Instagram account features multiple Australian artists that you can flick through quickly (it's a good starting point if you're unsure).
You're looking for good linework, that's your absolute priority with that style.
As for artists, Mat Schultz (South Australia) has been doing a lot of black work similarly to that as of late.
There's a few artists at Cherry Bomb Tattoo (Perth) that do that style.
And I just realised the top link shows images completely different than the other two...what are you looking for exactly as the top is more watercolour and the other two are black and bold.
I don't know of any specifically but maybe check out Blue Lady Tattoo and see if there's any artists you're interested in there (they also get quite a few guests artists so they're good to follow). There's also The Grand Illusion that has some good artists.
It would depend on how much lighter you want it but because it's no colour and only a few dark areas it could be anywhere between 2-4 sessions to get it to a point of light enough to cover.
Though it's an Australian company, MJ Driver's instagram shows some good before/after and says the amount of treatments to give you a bit of an idea.
I wouldn't say Emily is the same style as that, but if you are looking for a similar style to Emily's there's Jake Danielson who has quite a similar style (he does quite a few big pieces too). Also Korpus Tattoo is filled with great artists.
Either way though don't let waiting time put you off, if you want a tattoo immediately I'm sure someone in an alleyway could help you out.
I personally use Instagram to follow shops and artists (I'm not much of a user of Facebook and just find it's layout annoying). You can also find accounts like this that post artists all throughout your area which can often uncover some unknowns.
Age has nothing to do with it, man. Time won't make the shading less funky or the lines more solid. If you legitimately can't see why this is a poorly done tattoo, read the "how to examine a portfolio" link in the sidebar.
From a technical standpoint, compare your tattoo to say, this. See how the line width is consistent, the colors are evenly saturated, and the shading makes sense? These are all attributes of a well done piece, yours has none of these.
It's tough to read due to how stylized it is but at least it's the right kanji. Really fantastic tattoo man. It's almost hard to believe it's not real brush stroke. Though Rounin also means some other stuff in modern day Japanese culture. :P
> 哲 【テツ】 sage, wise man, philosopher, disciple, sagacity, wisdom, intelligence
I'm getting good at this :) Edit: rotate 90 degrees clockwise.
I think he is lonely, he needs Hipster OWL as a buddy on that extended branch actually turn that branch into a whole tree :)
Anyways, easy to say haha, Nice work!
What exactly would you be looking to use as your subject matter? I think that makes a huge difference, but I support your idea anyway. I'm a very small time scientific illustrator and have considered getting a tatt like that myself, but I'm not sure what to suggest for you considering everyone looks at 'illustrations' differently (for example, I mainly draw animals and would only ever consider getting an animal).
found two interesting interpretations of the idea but if you were googling you probably already found them.....going to post them anyway in just case though :)
this appears to be a hipster sleeve
this is a diagram of different finch beaks, darwin's famous study
I got this three pack and they worked well. They were comfortable and it was nice to have multiples so I could get through the first couple days without having to do laundry.
I picked it up at a used book store but this is the Amazon listing
Breaks everything down by style and gives tattoo meanings and the history of each style
Ebros Furrybones.
My husband bought me one for everyday of my birthday month and I got to open one a day.
Here is one that caught my eye:
And then there is Chuckie. He’s in a league of his own.
like i said in the title the original design is by Tim Hobday, i found it here: https://dribbble.com/shots/2371463-Millennium-Falcon
I guess im not the first one to think it would make a nice tat.
I have an american Traditional version of the same tattoos! https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPlqQaGn2-A6-QDMgfU3sPcj1U8QWC6XVo8CrYijMXSM7n3geg_MMNN-t5xZI6s9Q?key=aWpzMUtNOXQtVnZWR0s0VDc3SHc0YVNDeUZhZ2lB
This is a good reference. The author (Lane Wilcken) is also nice. I reached out to him asking a couple of questions and not even seeking work from him and he provided me some good pointers. I have an Ilocano/Luzon area tattoo on my arm and this book helped me a lot with my research. https://www.amazon.com/Filipino-Tattoos-Ancient-Modern-Wilcken/dp/0764336029/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=33P6KO9K7AZI5&keywords=filipino+tattoos+ancient+to+modern&qid=1669225055&sprefix=filipino+tattoos%2Caps%2C165&sr=8-3
Yup - my whole left arm is stuff just like this but done by Rudolf Leuckart: Leuckart's drawings
Do it! I have some work by Aron, he's fantastic (and like, the most gentle tattooer ever)! His book of designs always has really cool stuff, also look through his Instagram for designs he's done in the past, you might find something you really dig. Amsterdam has some insanely good shops, my favorite is Salon Serpent, I really want to get a piece by Angelique Houtkamp. That shop also has some freaking fantastic people visiting it! Guen Douglas works there, she's currently traveling for a while--her work is just nuts. Plus then you have a lot of the other European artists within a few hour drive! Check out https://instagram.com/taikogallery/ Wenramen and Mathew Gordon just opened it up (they used to be at Conspiracy Inc, another awesome shop). Definitely get some work by Aron if you can. Have fun in Amsterdam, jealous of how close you'll be to so many incredible artists!
Look up Laura at Red Baron Ink. Link to her instagram. Shes been bangin out a ton of watercolor tattoos so she may be able to give you something like that pic.
Go to Barnes and Noble and buy a book on viking/norse runes. They exist and will be your safest bet. Ex: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/nordic-runes-paul-rhys-mountfort/1102241011?ean=9780892810932&st=PLA&sid=BNB_DRS_Core+Shopping+Books_00000000&2sid=Google_&sourceId=PLGoP62465
That's not rotoscoped animation, though. It's not even "classic" That's a zoetrope that was 3D printed almost 5 years ago, which is based off a painting from the 1600's.
I just put something like this on the side of my PC... "Vinyl Sticker" Unfortunately I put it on upside down, glad to see your artist didn't do the same.
It's clearly incorrect. Here is an elementary chart to help guide their correction.

I also work construction and deal with it too. This is what I use
Wash with anti bacterial at night/in the morning, a drop of A&D and cover before work. Repeat until it’s healed. This method hasn’t failed me yet
Thanks I'll definitely check it out. Here's a few links to books i've been reading currently

Yeah I noticed that. This guy does some super awesome realistic work. Maybe he was in a hurry haha. I may get him to add a bunch of detail at a later date. Here's an example of some other stuff he's done. https://instagram.com/jasontattooer http://i.imgur.com/JxAB4WF.jpg

It's a very well done tattoo. But that's a dove. Not a raven. Ravens are more chesty and fluffy with longer beaks. Still an excellent tattoo! I really like it!

Edit: nope it's a raven. I was wrong.
I recommend Phill Bartell in Boulder, CO--his shop is Rising Tide Tattoo. I have spent 14+ hours in under his needles and will gladly go back when time and money permit (and I live in San Diego!) He has a great hand for refined work as well as the bold and ballsy range of tattoos. He also did my girlfriend's tattoo, drawing something entirely unique based on a conversation and one completely different piece of reference (for style).
Incidentally, he did significant parts of my sleeve's color with a rotary needle gun -- sooo smooth, far less painful than the reciprocating needle. QUIET too.

Heh, I'm glad that it made sense! It was one of those things where the idea just filled my head to the point that I had to write it out. For me, such ideas usually result in weird little short stories, but in this case it was more of my general impression of the piece with no small smattering of my personal philosophy about the nature of art.
But I think the image speaks for itself very well, I just tried to capture the impressions it gave me.
I like! First one reminds me of John Baizley's work
I really do love it.
I'm working on a sleeve right now and it's very similar in some regards. At least in what it evokes for me.
Here's the first layer, 2 weeks old:

I am getting work done by henry lewis at skull and sword. everyone in the shop is amazing. Henry has done some black and gray portraits that I have seen (one recently) don't think its his usual thing though.
Arcane Art Tattoo is in a small shopping plaza right off of State Street in Orem. And here is the link to his instagram... https://instagram.com/jentrey_mccausland_11/ Really pleased with his work! He's also a really cool guy! All the guys there seem really cool and very professional.
If you can do SF, I highly would recommend Matt Matik at Scholar Tattoo, you can find his work on Instagram (https://instagram.com/mattmatik) and their website. He does amazing flowers as you'll see in his art. (Find the girl with the chrysanthamum around her side, really beautiful, and I have a full back-piece from him that's 2/3 done, I love it!)
I like the idea, but I think if you did symbols instead of words, it might be a little stronger/cooler
The chaos symbol is already in existence and pretty well known... you could make up your own symbol for good
Just throwing it out there :)
How is the thigh in terms of pain? I really want this as a thigh piece.
I have my left sleeve done so I've gone through elbow and armpit pain. I imagine it's not worse than that, but just thought I'd ask.
From my ankle up represents places I have lived in the order I have lived there: upstate NY (a farm town), London, and Boston.
Video of me turning. Please ignore my clumsiness, I had already had a few bloody Mary's.
Mark Skipper at St. Louis Tattoo Company in Chesterfield is great. Here's a link to his instagram! I got my last piece done by him last month and can't recommend him enough. Good luck! :)
I don't know how convenient it would be for you to get to Toronto, but I always recommend Chronic Ink. They have like a dozen artists who do killer black and grey work.
You don't have to make an account to view videos, so if giving TikTok your info is what your issue is at least there's a workaround. Here are the posts tagged with #tattoo if you decide you're interested in taking a peek.
I'm pretty sure yuyu Hakusho is free on YouTube legally I remember reading about it somewhere that funimation or some company like that was releasing it for free

Nice, i was actually considering a TMNT for a while also, could make for a really good tattoo.
Check out the site PInterest if you havent already, best site for finding tattoo ideas imo.

Honestly the website layout is crap. This is her Facebook but i'm not sure if it is public. [This is her Myspace](myspace.com/qittyqat) there are pics there as well, but she has done so many more tattoos since the last pics were posted there. You can also email her at and ask about more pictures.
