Still in shock over Bourdain. I went to see him live in Boston a few years ago, what a guy man. It was just him talking on stage, that was the whole show. Dude had insane charisma & talent. To top it off, he was one amazing writer.
Some of you know that I spent some time in the restaurant industry having run a high end steakhouse. His books are spot fuckin' on for the industry. I never read them until I was mostly out but I legit had flashbacks of my experiences as I was reading his books.
If you havn't read a "cooking" book, pick up Kitchen Confidential, its a gripping read. I finished the book in a week. I couldn't put it down.

I'm super bullish bro, but I don't believe that for one second. I work in tech, and they're nowhere near Google Brain or Deepmind. I have a few friends who are research scientists in those companies, and whilst Netflix has really solid tech in what they do, they're not going to be an AI/ANN behemoth anytime soon.
Maybe (and that's a big maybe) they're the leader in recommender systems, but for any other type of learning, they're not leaders in any sense.
But what they're really good at from a tech perspective is super robust systems. They're basically pioneered the field of chaos engineering (fancy name for taking down parts of your system randomly in order to test how robust it is) in SaaS companies.
And they're a super well run company, just read their culture deck.
Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. It kind of gets into the chemistry behind cooking. I got it for my wife and her cooking skills jumped up significantly after reading it.

>A sharp slowdown in growth in Germany
>
>This is the first time in three and a half years that Germany has seen a decline in its gross domestic product. A contraction of 0.2% in the third quarter, which is not a disaster, and which should not prevent it from recording its ninth consecutive year of growth in 2018. This slowdown can be attributed to the decline in German car production, which has suffered from the introduction of new car type-approval standards for exhaust emissions. Because they could not obtain them in time, manufacturers were unable to sell their vehicles. However, the automotive sector represents one fifth of German industry and more than three-quarters of their production is exported. The government hopes for a rapid recovery of the sector and is also counting on the fiscal stimulus decided this autumn in favour of households to boost domestic consumption. However, this major setback is an opportunity for German employers to recall the need for structural and fiscal reforms in the country, while growth forecasts for 2019 have been revised downwards.

so, this is what sent Beyond Meat "crashing"? lol. Why some people flock to these "unicorns" to trade them is beyond my understanding. There are thousands of liquid stocks to choose from... yet $BYND attracts gamblers the most because it's the newest hot girl on the bloc.
Not a robinhood user, but based on what I've been reading, they're restricting any and all stocks that generate appreciable volume on reddit. Went to their website to confirm. Here's a full list: https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/changes-due-to-recent-market-volatility/.
Most of those tickers are pretty familiar to a certain subreddit...
I haven't had a mid-life crisis but I definitely had a multi-year existential crisis after my mom died. I dealt with it in part by studying philosophy. I find that it helps to spend some time thinking about questions that we often compartmentalize and ignore, until they come out of their own accord, and at the worst time. And it especially helps seeing how other, very smart, people have thought about them. Especially because some of them dedicated decades to developing their thoughts. People like Plato, Aristotle, the stoics, Thomas Aquinas, Hobbes, John Stuart Mill, David Hume, Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Husserl, Heiddiger, Sartre.
It can be hard to get into reading primary texts but there are some really nice popularizations, and especially in audiobook format. I went through a bunch of courses from https://www.thegreatcourses.com These are usually taught by university Profs and worked really well for me. There's also this free podcast - http://thepanpsycast.com/panpsycast2/
Suggested wiki: good book reads.
I know we currently have readings around market profile, and tech analysis. But I think there are some good books reads that can be useful.
I am currently listening to Van Tharp's Trading Through the Matrix right now, and reading Hedge Fund Market Wizards. Not really caring for Van Tharp's book right now. But Schwager's book isn't too bad so far, given I'm <50 pages in.
But I'd like to know what others favorite/valued books suggestions.
Ah okay, that makes sense. Well my next question...is RH not it's own clearing firm?
https://robinhood.com/us/en/support/articles/whats-clearing-by-robinhood/

Clearing by Robinhood will allow us to help our customers more easily and efficiently, and there are three changes you’ll notice right away:
Yes! But, there are two types of brokerage firms: introducing brokers and clearing brokers. These two types of brokers have very different regulatory oversight requirements.
Before, Robinhood was only an introducing broker, which means that we used a clearing brokerage for “back office” support, like settling the trades you placed on Robinhood. Using a clearing broker is the industry norm when a company like Robinhood wants to let its users place trades. In fact, the top five clearing firms cleared 1,310 introducing firms in 2016.
Now, Robinhood is also a clearing broker, which means we have complete control over giving you the best experience out there!
Contango is when the next trading month contract is trading higher than current (active) month. Such ae /ESM8 trading@ 2677(current). and next contract /ESU8 contract is trading 2683. Just an example at this time or writing.
Backwardation is when the current month is trading higher than next month such as what is happening with /CLM8 68.92 and next /CLN8 68.73
Just a simple explanation. If you use TOS you can look at trade page and see this is you show all contracts. https://www.screencast.com/t/twawA2FoB
The Brothers by Stephen Kinzer
The Dulles brothers (as in the airport) were at the same time the overt (State department) and covert (CIA) heads.
These two dudes were in lock-step ideologically and their actions had many many unforeseen downstream effects.
Cold war? These guys. Bay of Pigs. These guys. Overthrow of democratically-elected governments? Dulles dudes. They overthrew the Iranian government as a favor to the company that would become BP. They installed the Shah of Iran which led to the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Don't even get me started on what they did in South America on behalf of United Fruit.
Seriously - these 2 guys shaped so much of our current world.

If you're looking for a gaming laptop, I like the Dell G3 a lot.
For a productivity laptop, the new LG gram, or the XPS 15 is my favorite choice.
I have a Lenovo P50 with a 4k screen as a work laptop, and while I don't hate it, I wouldn't get another one. It's very bulky and annoying to carry around. It stays permanently docked.
Either way, if you are set on a laptop, make sure whatever model you get comes with an 8th gen CPU. Intel's 8th gen are quad core CPUs, even in their ultrabook line now and anything lower is not worth it.
I agree that most professors are normal, however I've had some really bad ones. One was very rude and called students names like "idiot" and made leave the room if they answered a question wrong. Eventually we got together as a class and reported him to the finance department. After that he started to act much better with the occasional slip up. His RMP profile went from a 1.4 -> 2.2
If a teacher is widely abusing his/her power and multiple students complain at once, it can make your case much stronger.
problem: https://www.hackerrank.com/challenges/magic-square-forming
the solutions i see are trivial, ie: they just hardcode all the possible magic matrix for 3x3 square and compare the input matrix. doesn't really solve anything
I understand the question. idk yet how to solve without suming the rows/cols/diagonals and then iterating each value of the matrix. incredibly inefficient and won't work i think
it's kind of like a cost optimization problem but idk what the cost is. is this just a trick question where you have to know the magicsquare constant formula before hand? n*(n^2 +1)/2
Interesting note on PCG. Saying even with a 4x discount to the P/E (which itself is probably being conservative and should be more like 3x), a $50 price is warranted for the stock. Also the chances of bankruptcy are extremely small.
I don't have much experience with AG, but... Looking at the Cocoa Bean map and then at Windy.com (Like Ventusky, but also can go in the future) I noticed a Pacific cyclone forming and strengthening near Baja ~~Mexico~~ California.

What can I watch here that I can't get on most of the other platforms?
Here is a list of options I have,
I just don't see why I would chose Vudu over any of these other platforms.
I don't think people give enough credit to SNAP. It is still #1 app on itunes app store and #3 on Android's app store. It is targeted to young people and it is beating Facebook/Instagram among those people. They are doing lot of creative things with voice/chat/location/AI(?) etc.
Sure it is overvalued and burns cash like a hooker but that's what most of the early stage tech companies do. I think sooner or later it gets bought out.

I'm a big fan of google's products. Not a fan of their stock. Their annoucements today were a mixed bag, with the headphones being the most interesting. The problem is, use cases for closed air, in ear, wireless headphones that are less visible is going to be smaller than they think.

I had carpal tunnel, or maybe tendinitis for about 10 years due to this killer bass line I wrote (and then played very frequently since I was in a very active and touring punk band) but it was hell on my wrist because of wild, rapid up and down neck movements with band hand stretches the whole way. After that I kept flaring it up doing every day things, or from certain exercises from weightlifting. I used BPC 157 for it and it healed it pretty much entirely in about 2 weeks. I've used it a few time for different injuries, but my wrist has not hurt since and this was about 4-5? years ago. I highly recommend looking into it. I can give you some more details, instructions, sources etc if you're interested and want to message me for more info.
Alternatively, there are some supplements you can take that might help. First of all take a high quality fish oil. This has many benefits, but Omega-3s also help with inflammation and joint pain. It has to have a high EPA and DHA content, there's a lot of garbage fish oil out there. I use this one, high quality and good bang for your buck. Also look into S-adenosylmethionine, boswellia serrate, capsaicin creams, and curcumin. All of those are supposed to help with joint inflammation and arthritis.
You can also check out glucosamine. Some people say it's snake oil but anecdotally, my elderly dog was limping really badly after she got up and would start walking for the first 5ish minutes, doc said shoulder arthritis, we started giving her daily glucosamine and she stopped limping after a week or so.
Oh, she's already moved on to DuPlo (https://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Classic-Storage-Educational-Toddlers/dp/B07WJJF8PB/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=duplo&qid=1659555571&sr=8-5) , doesn't look like she's trading the close today so that's the best you'll get.

Dig around the base of the bamboo a little bit to expose the roots, lop off the tops of the bamboo, pour death vinegar inside the shoots and onto the roots, let it roast for a day or so, go back and try to dig up as much of the root balls that you can, discard either with fire or throw it in the trash, but put it in plastic bags first if you throw them away.
Spies, Lies, and Algorithms. A great book on anyone who’s interested in learning and understanding American’s intelligence community. I’ve been enjoying it. It was recommended by a friend who spent from time in that world.
I just saw your post—I’m so sorry you’re under that pressure. 2.5 is really young, and I would absolutely get another evaluation/opinion if you haven’t already.
One of the things that gave me a lot of confidence was following this book: Balanced and Barefoot
https://www.amazon.com/Balanced-Barefoot-Unrestricted-Confident-Children/dp/1626253730
It has been an absolute game changer for me raising kids (full-time dad of 3 for the last 5 years). My 4yo has some pronunciation issues (he was born with a tongue-tie), but his communication is getting better as he develops his balance and gross motor skills from 3-4hrs a day outdoors.
I also can’t recommend @1000hoursoutside on IG enough: she has a lot of fantastic research on the impact being outdoors helps with early childhood development.
Some providers haven't been shown to release logs in court. I think Private Internet Access has shown to be pretty reliable on that front.
It is true that it could be happening behind the scenes but to my knowledge there havent been any leaks showing that.
A few weeks ago, someone said that they enjoyed The World For Sale: Money, Power, and the Traders Who Barter the Earth's Resources. So I bought it. I read it. I loved it.
Does anyone know of other books similar to this? Whether it be about commodity trading generally or the 'history' of finance/trading/markets? I'd love to continue learning about this.
Oh this looks good, Amazon also shows me Out of the Shadows: The New Merchants of Grain, which builds directly off of this and written in 2019. Might pick both up tbh
I was thinking of getting an aerogarden 24xl. I got my dad the 9 pod version and he used it very successfully to germinate difficult seeds in preparation for the normal growing season. But I’m hoping to just grow cherry tomatoes. I hate how expensive tomatoes have gotten.

Cognitive science is a huge field, so it depends what you're interested in.
I wrote a comment just yesterday with example content under the field here: https://www.reddit.com/r/IWantToLearn/comments/sqjxor/iwtl_how_to_improve_intelligence_memory_and/hwmgh7z/ But it probably isn't what you're interested in.
If you care about people being alive you could join a local philosophy club. Most universities have them and accept people outside of the university.
As for alive or dead, the human condition does not change, so imo it shouldn't matter if they're alive as long as they're within the last 200 years, due to English not having changed enough within this time they might as well be modern.
This last week I've been listening to Man's Search for Meaning which is pretty good.
It all depends what you're looking for. Peterson can be good at little 101 snippets into things, but it's far from the end all be all, and he often stops short with himself that causes him hurdles he can't even figure out to jump over, which I find sad. It would be nice if he went further for himself so he could get rid of his anxiety issues, his drug habit, his stomach pains, and other issues.
It looks like it was targeted at existing accounts who pulled money out.

This table from this commentary from Schwab might be of interest to some here.
Couldn't figure out how to get a bigger version of the table though.
IMO its a good thing to go to a lot of interviews, its a skill like any other, the more you practise, the better you get ;)
Having said that, go to the less favourable companies first, "work your way up" as you get better at interviews, that worked very well for me in the past.
It helps developing a routine and not being as nervous, lots of questions can be the same, similar for coding tests.
Using a site like https://www.hackerrank.com to practise the "craftY" part helps me a lot to get up to speed with typical coding tasks, in fact, so much that I'm at my peak when doing interviews lol
I did interviews a lot, on both sides, there is different tasks to try to find out different things about the candidate.
One of my favourite tricks when given a "simple" task (like the first ones, often extended on later) while being watched is to start by writing a unit test. This never failed to impress tbh, and its an easy trick to pull off if you're fluent in the setup of it and typing it out (for Java, add the Maven dependency to the pom.xml, then start with a very simple JUnit unit test under src/.test/java/some/package), but its trivial to do for Python as well.
I don't like coding tests done in "browser IDEs" , same when the condition to "not to use Google". I do like real world problems, one company showed their code in a very old state before they refactored/rewrote it, another one gave me an actual ticket from their pipeline with a very current issue (popped up that day lol).
The context is that I'm doing this for over 20 years, having me implement a LinkedList or another basic data structure during an interview/test makes me furious.. its not something I should actually ever do when being paid for coding.
It was a cheap one, similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Schwinn-Anti-Theft-Security-Level/dp/B00MBBVVM2

That's pretty much what I'm going to go with from now on. The Kyrptonite one's seem to be well regarded in /r/cycling and have good reviews so I'll snag one of those.

This week I learned about the education savings account. Sounds like a good compliment to the 529.
You can only contribute $2000/year, but the nice thing is you aren’t restricted to certain funds. So if you want to bet your child’s future on API and NIO, go for it!
I’ll probably open one for my kids and allow them to learn about saving and investing through this.
This has been brought up elsewhere on reddit/twitter, but it's curious that Stripe posted a SOX compliance related job several days ago: https://stripe.com/jobs/listing/controls-compliance-lead/2333819

Not at all, gamers have a short memory span. I remember a huge faction of gamers wanted to boycott COD:MW2 many years back because they were removing dedicated servers which the PC community had enjoyed for COD2 and COD4. Then comes release day and the majority of people who were going to boycott was playing the game.

Reminder :
buying the dip doesn’t mean you have to go to the same stocks you went to in a bull market. Especially due to pause in buybacks.
Going defensive is an option. Also I can tell you (as I’ve tried to trumpet for awhile now) - Money Market investors or CD investors are starting to capitulate on those products. Yields weak and will be weaker. They don’t even want to buy them anymore.
We are likely to follow the script of other countries at 0% rates or negative. This is not my opinion necessarily and more so due to articles like this.
Dividend stocks/etfs is where those conservative investors will go to.
After last night and where I posted my angst with Dr ZoidbergAlwaysWins.
The link in photo that he uploaded was this stupid dancing one https://imgbb.com
I shouldnt have looked after blocked, on non logged in account.
But Zoid’s a immature ( deep breathe before I fire appropriate adjective salvos for teenager behavior ) is a blight on this sub and if he can’t contain himself he should be banned.
Many agreed. Don’t care at all what zoid used to contribute and frankly I should have never looked. But it was a bit intoxicating to see the very behavior I rallied against be in full and expectable display.
I will leave over shit like this.
Again deep breath. Many good people here. But Zoid’s behavior is immature and caustic. Boils my blood.
I started looking in to something similar in the fall.
Check out OpenHAB.org and home-assistant.io. This open source software you can setup rules for when to change light colors, what color to make them, etc. I'm thinking what you want to do is start a timer at say 7 AM everyday. Then, put a couple of z-wave remotes in the bathrooms. After your kid does their business, hit the button/remote to restart the timer. Then after say 90 minutes, the light will turn yellow again. Go to the bathroom, hit the reset, and repeat.
I actually just started looking in to this stuff more today. I have a chandaielr that covers two floors, but the light switch is on the bottom floor. I want to replace the switch downstairs with a smart z-wave switch, and just put a button upstairs to push for on/off. Also eventually going to automate security for closing the garage doors and locking the front and back doors every night at a schedule, say 9pm.
If you're bored and want something to read:
Read Pages 244 - 261. I enjoyed it so much I went back and read the whole damn book.

one more shameless plug for the big table I use to track the daily td counts and best guess s/r levels of my favorite optionable symbols. automatically updated every day ~11pm est with the previous day's data.
I've posted this in here before but I made an update recently so I'll post it again... I run my technical screener every night against daily charts of a bunch of equities... mostly stocks I like and stocks that come up on the tastyworks liquidity screener. It lists the TD count under "count", which is probably what most of you would be interested in.
https://plot.ly/~moisttowelette/12
It's still pretty raw and in development... If you want me to add tickers to it let me know... and any and all criticisms are welcome...
i've started running my supertrend A/D and TD sequential indicators against the daily charts of all the symbols in the S&P500 every day and posting it here:

I know a lot of folks in here especially like the TD sequential, which is in the "count" column

Can anyone point me to a good explanation to the value area? I saw this one The Value Area and The 80% Rule and then found an add-on in tradingview, it seems similar to Bollinger bands. It was really interesting to watch BYND move around in it today.
Does anyone know what Schwab's option assignment fee is? I'm looking on their website and not seeing it listed.
It may be cheaper for me to just buy back my put and buy 100 shares today.
Amending my previous question.
This map doesn't seem to be tracking actual locations of cases , is there one being updated (for Italy specifically) that has at least the metro area they were reported in marked on it?
See there’s your problem.
If you’re a coder, no amount of cmd tab or tools will replace a nice big screen. Productivity goes up drastically with more screen real estate.
Get yourself a 32” 4k monitor and get a window manager like swish or spectacle and you’re golden.
Also get the hang of mission control, expose, and the 3 finger drags to go between your spaces. It takes literally a day and once you get used to it, windows will be relegated as the inferior web dev platform it is. There’s a reason why in all the hyper growth SAAS companies, every non .NET/C# dev prefers a mac.
I was browsing this site https://www.justwatch.com/ca the other day when my wife expressed an interest in getting Netflix but after some time my wife and I couldn't find one platform that would have enough value for us to bother so that towel was tossed pretty quick.

Title: The Rise of Carry: The Dangerous Consequences of Volatility Suppression and the New Financial Order of Decaying Growth and Recurring Crisis
Author: Tim Lee, Jamie Lee, & Kevin Coldiron
Amazon Link: https://www.amazon.com/Rise-Carry-Consequences-Volatility-Suppression/dp/1260458407
Overview:
> A groundbreaking book sure to leave its mark in the canon of investing literature, The Rise of Carry explains how carry trading has virtually shaped the global economic picture―one of decaying economic growth, recurring crises, wealth disparity, and, in too many places, social and political upheaval. The authors explain how carry trades work―particularly in the currency and stock markets―and provide a compelling case for how carry trades have come to dominate the entire global business cycle. They provide thorough analyses of critical but often overlooked topics and issues, including:
>• The active role stock prices play in causing recessions―as opposed to the common belief that recessions cause price crashes
>• The real driving force behind financial asset prices
> • The ways that carry, volatility selling, leverage, liquidity, and profitability affect the business cycle
> • How positive returns to carry over time are related to market volatility―and how central bank policies have supercharged these returns
Read the two books below several times. Then start trading small to apply theory to practice. As you get comfortable, scale up.

Do you know where the nest is? Drione powder is the only sure way to get them. I've used it plenty of times on both in ground yellow jackets and paper wasp nests.
That's what you want. Hit the nest after it gets dark and the activity is low. The dust will cause them to swarm a bit so hit it and get out of there.
Nest should be shut down by the next morning.

If grip is causing you to fail see below
The hooks will remove that factor. However it’ll sacrifice forearm / grip work
Tbh man. Unless you are trying to really keep your hands soft or something, get some liquid chalk and let the hands callus.
if you still want gloves for grip or whatever reason. i think this is your best bet

This is the stock fan that comes on higher end Ryzen CPUs, this is more than good enough for anything you'll be doing IMO.
Maybe delay the purchase of the Hypercooler until you see if this is good enough? I suspect you'll have other bottlenecks while mining (memory).
All of the welding stuff I'm finding is like a few hundred bucks. Whereas I already have an air compressor, a dust mask, and that mask fits this forced air filter. I could just stop being cheap I guess.
Hmmm, you know, there is a shop here in town, maybe they could sell me a bit. This was the stuff on Amazon for $100, maybe they would go halfsies with me on it. $100 is steep enough to where I could pick up a oil-less unit for not much more (I'm sure the wife would love that) and sell it in a year for just as much... hmm hmm hmm. I'm pretty sure I'll need multiple hours on this project (2x chimneys to kill + vermiculite to remove)... this would be much more fun if it wasn't my house (or at least if I wasn't living in it at the same time).
If you like trading, The Reminiscences of a Stock Operator is a must!
Title: The Rosie Project
Author: Graeme Simsion
Link: https://www.amazon.com/Rosie-Project-Novel-Graeme-Simsion/dp/1476729093
Overview: > The international bestselling romantic comedy “bursting with warmth, emotional depth, and…humor,” (Entertainment Weekly) featuring the oddly charming, socially challenged genetics professor, Don, as he seeks true love.
> The art of love is never a science: Meet Don Tillman, a brilliant yet socially inept professor of genetics, who’s decided it’s time he found a wife. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which Don approaches all things, he designs the Wife Project to find his perfect partner: a sixteen-page, scientifically valid survey to filter out the drinkers, the smokers, the late arrivers.
> Rosie Jarman possesses all these qualities. Don easily disqualifies her as a candidate for The Wife Project (even if she is “quite intelligent for a barmaid”). But Don is intrigued by Rosie’s own quest to identify her biological father. When an unlikely relationship develops as they collaborate on The Father Project, Don is forced to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie―and the realization that, despite your best scientific efforts, you don’t find love, it finds you.
> Arrestingly endearing and entirely unconventional, Graeme Simsion’s distinctive debut “navigates the choppy waters of adult relationships, both romantic and platonic, with a fresh take (USA TODAY). “Filled with humor and plenty of heart, The Rosie Project is a delightful reminder that all of us, no matter how we’re wired, just want to fit in” (Chicago Tribune).
Reason: I'm most likely straddling the spectrum of something and going through this book has helped understand some things I don't feel like getting into better.

Monitor(s) on a swivel and the treadmill on the outside part of the L + Wireless Mouse / Keyboard.
I had a similar setup before. Thinking of doing it again but restricted by space for now in the current office.
Used to set the speed to like 0.3 and get my steps in for the day + a small jog / run at lunch. You don't notice you're walking when you're busy working (or at least I didn't).
Good night, sweet prince. You were too good for the snake pit world of politics. Leave the country to the mentally ill and their flock.
Going to enjoy the decline, while my Chinese stonks only go up.
