That’s why I don’t use the internet. I write messages on paper, slap it onto a pigeon that flies it to my highly trained monkeys at an unknown location. The monkeys then type what I’ve written onto a keyboard that is linked to a computer in another completely random location Those computers use NordVPN and you can too! It uses “military grade” encryption that stops people spying on what you are doing online! Use this link to get 70% off a 3 year plan!!! And that is how I stay safe online. But if I want to see search results or anything I’ll just use my phone. They’ll never suspect it.
I love the WebMD page for colloidal silver. It's got all the headings as though it were actually effective, but then every single section tells you that it doesn't do anything and is dangerous to use.

Well, I think their romantic ideas about rabies are gonna be shot down when they get this: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/rabies/symptoms-causes/syc-20351821
Instead of this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycanthropy_(disambiguation)
My sister is into that "essential oils" garbage. See, my building had a bed bug infestation recently (that was fun, oh boy) and I noticed that the things almost instantly died if I put some Fast Orange on them, and brought it up when we all had to go to Montana for our father's funeral service. So, I get to hear all about how essential oils are vital, and good, and pure, yadda yadda.
Well, you can buy it here from this totally not sketchy looking website, for the low low price of $71 a gallon plus shipping and handling. Which is about one pound per thousand gallons of water.
According to the mayo clinic, drinking it does literally nothing to you. Except in rare cases where people drink way way too much and get kidney issues.
And not to mention no nurse or doctor would say the Hep B vaccine is for sex and drugs, although that is the most common route of transmission. I mean, you could argue it is unnecessary, but it is also intended to prevent transmission through one more route: unintentional contact with infected body fluid. Given that the vaccine is intended to last quite awhile, it is to give protective coverage across a long span, but again, I guess you could argue it is unnecessary, but since it is often given with Hep A (and you REALLY should get that one), it is kind of a moot point. Lastly, Hep B is one of the few hepatitises (plural?) that can actually be prevented.
Lastly, Vitamin K? Every child gets that. Along with eye cream for possible eye infection from STD's (not every mother has an STD, but fuck it, better safe than sorry). This story is aggravating. If you are gonna come into a hospital for care and your medical knowledge is limited to Google, then please shut up: request information as needed, but don't think WebMD makes you more qualified than a doctor or nurse. It is okay to ask why something is needed and to even challenge it if it sounds fishy (and you are entitled to an educated and scientific answer), but once that answer is given, do not act like you know more than medical professionals.
If you are gonna be a confrontational turd, then get a doula and do a homebirth and stay out of hospitals. I shouldn't need to argue with you about freaking Vitamin K injections.

Here's what HPV is. You should definitely get the vaccine. It's a very common incurable illness and there's no downside to being vaccinated, save but a few instances.
> She's not antivax, but she doesn't like how strongly and early they're "pushed."
This is literally one of the standard anti-vaxx lines.
About 1 in 1,000 people with measles develop encephalitis. That's definitely serious. It can occur months after the measles itself is over.

Colloidal Silver...aha. "Colloidal silver isn't considered safe or effective for any of the health claims manufacturers make. Silver has no known purpose in the body. Nor is it an essential mineral, as some sellers of silver products claim." Mayoclinic at least confirms it as a natural product. Unfortunately they don't give a dilution-rate. Better dilute some more!
From WebMD: "Colloidal silver is LIKELY UNSAFE when taken by mouth, applied to the skin, or injected intravenously (by IV). The silver in colloidal silver products gets deposited into organs such as the skin, liver, spleen, kidney, muscle, and brain. This can lead to an irreversible bluish looking skin that first appears in the gums. It can also stimulate melanin production in skin, and areas exposed to the sun will become increasingly discolored."
Good to know colloidal silver won't kill you, merely turns you into a Na'vi...
I was wondering how the photographer/model would feel for this photo being used in this way. Found it on Shutterstock and searched more by that model.
From the Amazon site:

Sure, here. Try this classical music.
Seriously though, don't let them get to you. It's a paranoid mind clutching for straws to validate itself... Not yours, I mean. The Anti-Vaxxers. Your mind seems lovely.
There is no vaccine for croup, but vaccines do help limit the incidence of it. Most cases of croup come from the flu or other viral respiratory infections, so staying UTD with flu vaccines is important. Historically croup was linked to diphtheria as it was a major cause of croup cases, but since vaccination against diphtheria has been so successful, this isn't really a cause of it in the Western world any more.
I did find this article about the possible development of a croup vaccine in 2004, but haven't been able to find anything since then.

I’ll make a list shall I?
1 It’s A&E not ER.
2 A&E is not responsible for vaccination or prescriptions. That’s the GPs’ job
3 How in the fuck are you supposed to treat people without drugs?! Every operation in A&E requires at least local anaesthetic and painkillers.
4 Overprescription of drugs is a serious issue and is being dealt with by giving GPs who prescribe antibiotics less frequently a bonus
5 Believe it or not, you do actually learn about the immune system and its complexity (T-cells, B-cells, macrophages, memory cells, natural killer cells, etc.)
6 Drug reps present their product to the GPs, true, but they can’t just discuss it over lunch. It is far to formal for that.

> there is so much we still don’t know.
Yes, the point of science is to find out about things we don’t know about. We may have just found a treatment for a huge number of neurodegenerative disorders. We have an ENTIRE OTHER ORGAN we didn’t know about.
Did I miss anything?
EDIT 1: added the Immune System and drug rep points
The US has a population of 327.2 million while Australia has a population of 25 million. Considering we have 13x as many people in the US, I’m sure we do have more vaccinated people, but herd immunity comes down to the percentage of the population who are vaccinated. If 50 million people in the US were required to have their immunizations, that would be 200% of Australia’s population, but only 15% of ours. Far below the 80% minimum for herd immunity.

Don't tell these people about what has been going on in deli's since the 1940's.... getting assigned an arbitrary number and waiting until a machine says it's your turn to shop? No thank you! You know why the machine is always big and red right? COMMUNISM!
I'd have read those as a kid, too bad we didn't know each other for tradesies purposes. I was a bit of a nerd, though.
Also, I actually found the Pasteur book! Here it is on Amazon.
Well at least there's no penalty for making fun. Probably not much luck in swaying anyone who is a fan of that nut job site. May as well have some fun and try to profit though by feeding the stupid. The same page claims that baking soda is a treatment for the flu. Setup an Amazon associates account and then link to some overpriced "natural cures" using your affiliate link. You might get paid.
You too can get your hair tested, it’s on Amazon so it must be legit!

I actually recently learned that you can suddenly develop reactions to the chemical in poison ivy (which is also in mango skin!), and getting the reaction is linked mainly to your tolerance threshold, but your threshold can definitely change over the course of your life.
I was trying to keep in the spirit of TL, the amount of unscrupulous and scummy stuff he's got up to could fill a... Hey, would you look at that
Germans in the 1940s were "hypnotized" to believe being Jewish was contagious, COVIDiots in the 2020s have been hypnotized into believing that a viral disease isn't contageous.
I knew from the very start that it would be a problem if people weren't reminded constantly that masks and even vaccines aren't about keeping you safe, they are about keeping other people safe. People in Japan started wearing masks in public after SARS started because they are polite, not because they were afraid. I hoped the pandemic would be over before this error in public awareness/education caught up with us, and feared the virus would be so deadly it wouldn't matter much. It turns out SARS-COV-2 randomly hit a "sweet spot", so after two years of masks, vaccines, and various levels of "lock downs" and quarantining, "only" a million Americans have died, with another few dozens of millions more losing their sense of smell, days of work, and relatives, while these morans keep grabbing the wrong end of the stick....
If only I'd written a book in 2018 explaining exactly why people are so bad at reasoning, and how to fix it...

Herd immunity thresholds depend upon the disease that is circulating and they have been pretty well established. This is because different diseases have different risks of transmission, and some are more contagious than others such as measles.
A single person infected with measles has the potential to pass it along to others and create potentially 12-18 ''secondary infections''. In order for the transmission of a disease to stop, the secondary infections created by a single infected person must be less than one. To achieve this in a population, 93-95% of the people must be immunised against measles. The number of secondary infections (how many people in an unprotected population one infected person could pass the disease along to) is referred to as the basic reproduction number, or R0(r naught).
The larger the R0 number is, the harder an outbreak is to control whereas if the R0 is low, an infection can more easily be brought under control. This slideshow presentation provides a detailed overview of how the R0 is determined and what factors influence it. It can differ based on different populations around the world.
The higher the R0 number for a disease, the higher the herd immunity threshold needs to be.
The following is a chart showing the R0 number and the herd immunity threshold required to be immune from several diseases.
Disease | R0 | Herd immunity threshold |
---|---|---|
Diphtheria | 6-7 | 85% |
Measles | 12-18 | 93-95% |
Mumps | 4-7 | 75-86% |
Rubella | 6-7 | 83-85% |
Pertussis | 12-17 | 92-94% |
Polio | 5-7 | 80-86% |

The small pox vaccine is the only one I’m aware of that leaves a mark, most people in the U.S. used to have one but its much less common since small pox was all but eradicated.
The only small pox left in the world is government bioweapons and if those break out A) we’re fucked globally and B) the vaccine probably wont make much of a difference since they’ve been tinkering with them to make them worse than they were naturally.
