Turn off certain alerts. Potholes, vehicle on side of the road, etc is all useless to me.
Native support for shortcuts. I wrote an android app to do this, but it'd be nice to have the real thing as well as have it be able to read waze favorites. Also presumably there would be an iOS version.
You have to do it from your Waze Dashboard (web site).
Sounds like something needs to be tweaked in the map. There might be somebody here who can take a look at the maps there, but another good place to post about this would be in the regional Waze forum for Australia at https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=56
I'd contact your local editing community via the official Waze Forums for the country that the issue is occurring. Include a permalink in your post so local editors can easily identify the area of concern.
One thing about Waze is that you should have it running all the time when in the car, even when not explicitly navigating, so that it still can record your speed for the traffic conditions. Just because you arrived at your programmed destination doesn't mean you have stopped driving and Waze can't know that, so it stays active and that's why you need to turn it off.
If you happen to use a Bluetooth connection in your car, what you can do is use a automation app (such as Tasker or Automate) to turn off Waze when the Bluetooth connection is dropped.
Waze should learn your regular drives after a few days all on its own and auto-suggest them. Just make sure the feature is turned on:
Goto https://www.waze.com/dashboard and login. Make sure that "Allow auto-suggestions for destinations" is checked.
You might want to post this in the Waze App Forum if you haven't already.
A lot of their senior people pay attention to the forums. They might know what's up.
Thank you for the explanation! I can now understand your problem. Waze provides a visible indication of a road tax, but your location does not charge that tax.
You might consider informing Waze. Here are some links that might give you assistance: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19&sid=93cb8e94c48b1743b04fd7338eeb8d87

Good luck!
If your editor rank isn't high enough for you to have access to the closure option in WME, then you should post a request into the appropriate community forum - I believe this is the one for Boston:
You're going to need to report this directly to the UK Editing community: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=55
https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Cameras#Camera_Speed
It's all dependent on community guidelines; some communities set their Speed Camera's speed to zero so that there is an audible alert at all times.
Others have it set to the speed limit. Post your question in the forum, and wait for senior UK editors to respond.
Waze does have an Indonesia local forum; it's in your best interest to raise this concern there.
Waze has vehicle type options, however it currently treats all vehicles as "private vehicle".
You can ask the Indonesia community if they want to mark alleyways/side-streets for "motorcycles".
These are routing issues that might be adjusted by map editors. In the first case, we might designate the lane-crossing movement as “difficult” so users can avoid it by enabling “Avoid difficult turns” in navigation settings. For the second, it might be something similar, or maybe there is an errant prohibited turn.
In either case, these locations should be reported to the local volunteer map editors. You can post them here, using the app’s “Report > Map issue” function at the locations in question (spelling out the problem in the comments), or on the official Waze forum (find your country or state sub forum here.
I’ll ping some UK editors and have them reach out. Keep an eye on your Waze Forum inbox for info on how to get in contact with the UK community.
Here’s a great walkthrough of drawing a parking lot from one of our volunteer editors. Most important to you is that you want to double click to end drawing the polygon shape of the parking lot, and to add an entry-point for the parking lot entrance. Also add as many details as possible in the second tab of the parking lot place. You may also want to set an entry point for whatever business you’re creating a parking lot for.
You can get step by step assistance from your local community, just check the official Waze forums for where folks chat (discord in the US).
That's not how laws work. In Michigan, for example, my landlord cannot evict me from my apartment with no notice just because he feels like it. Even if this is specifically in my lease and I agreed to it, it's still illegal. Waze cannot take our personal information from the app and sell it to insurance companies, though it could sell aggregate data to anyone because it's not identifiable to a specific person.
Here's their privacy policy, which specifically says the following:
> Waze does not sell, rent or lease your personal information to third parties.
> so I'm not sure what your point is
It's that Waze was not originally designed to have lane information, and adding it would be a huge undertaking seeing how the basemaps work. It would be nice if it were added, but for whatever reason it hasn't been a priority for the developers.
> Waze already has the maps with lane information
What's your source on that? There is no lane information in the app or the map editor.
I understand lane info is a big deal for some people. For me it's outweighed by having volunteer-maintained up-to-date maps and realtime traffic and hazard info from other drivers -- something your 10yo unit won't ever have. And Google maps navigation imports some of these things from Waze.
Feature requests are great, and they have a forum just for them. And if you've got a GPS unit or another app that works better for you then use it until Waze catches up on the features you need.
I use Tasker for this. As soon as my phone connects to my car's bluetooth it disables WiFi, starts Waze, turns the phone's volume to max (although Bluetooth audio settings are apparently separate from system volume, but that's a different topic), and then starts playing my podcasts.
A small part of the Waze API is available for cities and other public entities through the Waze for Cities program. That program is completely free to use, though there are a couple of access restrictions that should be outlined in the documentation center of Waze for Cities. I'm afraid I can't share that documentation. I can however share there there is a request rate limiter in place to prevent massive consultations.
Waze is very defensive about its data though, and doesn't allow other companies/people querying it. So unless you work for a public entity, I'm afraid Waze is not going to be a legal source of data. Waze only has one source of income: advertisements. Carpool might follow in the future. Selling access to the data is not seen as something they want to do, from what I've gathered.
yes, /u/ssl-3 is outstanding in his field. Or try the Waze PL.
Since neither app knows which way you're going to drive to get to the highlighted route or what mapped road you're going to enter based on where you can actually drive from where you are, neither can realistically tell you which way to turn when you get to a road.
And /u/ssl-3, if that's a place you go often and this is important to you, you could get the driveway added in Waze. Then it would know which way to have you turn.
Map display is 2D and no beta version. I've re-downloaded the app and the amount of data storage used actually increased. This is indeed strange. I've submitted a topic on official waze forum, maybe someone there knows something about this.
This is very interesting, when waze first introduced closures they would propagate to google maps. However, google would not use the closures for re-routing, it would just display the "closure" alert on the map; google would still route you through the closure.
Now, I don't see any propagation of waze closures on to google maps whatsoever. Unless google maps is independently adding them. Maybe it depends on the area, I can imagine google maps might be proactive with closures in New York, Los Angeles and the more densely populated areas.
In my area, google map does absolutely nothing for closures. When they shutdown freeways and arterial roads for parade, marathon and construction; google still tries to route you through there; whereas waze has the closure mapped and routes around it.

Just a warning, there are quite a few uptight assholes on that forum, so if a negative nancy does respond don't take it personally.
The following Audis as well:

I think I got it... anyone want to try unzipping this and renaming to an available voice?

Also, if there's a more iPhone-accessible place to put this, I'd like to know for future reference.
I am not trying to start a flame war or a religious war. What i am trying to get at is you cannot expect and form of privacy when you are using your phone. So use the service or not, but don't throw around security concerns.
All phones in the USA have been back doored into the NSA system just by being on the ATT / Verizon network.
It's broken right now in 4.0, can't do anything about it unfortunately. If you prefer, you can downgrade to an older version using this site. (The site is run by Android Police, their files are safe.)
If you take a screenshot of the offending comment (with username) and send it either to your local volunteer community (via the Waze forum) or to Waze support. You can also send me a message here (for the US) and I’ll get it taken care of.
It would appear you do not have a forum account (assuming your Waze account name is the same as your Reddit name). The link in the map editor should point you to this topic for Hungary, but I can imagine that would give some error without a forum account.
I'll request Waze to create a forum account for you. I'm not exactly quite sure why some people don't have a forum account, nor do I understand why Waze can't figure out an automatic system to create such accounts on the fly when needed. But it is what it is...
Hi u/Rumbuck_274
If you need assistance and cannot get Discord working, please either post on our forums here:
https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=56
or email me at:
You can turn off the suggestions by logging in at the website, not in the app.
https://www.waze.com/account/auto_suggestions
thanks to u/dericn for the link & screenshot in a previous discussion
I'm not aware of any major changes to the routing server in that timeframe (besides the changes in the data while folks are staying at home). However, you might get a more in-depth answer through the Official Waze Forum for Germany.
> The SDK does not support the following: > Server-side access to Waze data, like traffic reports and driver speed. - About the Waze Transport SDK
If you are a government agency, you can apply to the Waze for Cities program to get two-way access to some Waze data. Waze for Cities (CCP)
Nothing specific needed to use the beacons, just keep Bluetooth on, and Waze will sense the individual beacons in the tunnels in sequence, and keep you’re route moving.
The beacons are open source, but the other GPS apps will have to do the back-end work to setup the map/apps to use them.
As for Lyft>Waze, I’m not quite sure what’s up, as I haven’t driven for a while. I’ll ask around and see if others are having the same problems.
There is a Waze Professional Drivers for Waze, but it’s not very active, so I’ll ask elsewhere (Waze discord).
The app works just fine crossing states. I'm able to route that no problem and it should route you down the NJ Turnpike. Do you have Avoid Tolls selected?
If the marking of cameras is enabled for your country, and if it's then part of your local area editing policy to add these cameras, then yes, this would be possible via the Waze map editor.
If your area doesn't have any cameras showing up in the app, it would however suggest that for whatever reason, your area is one which doesn't allow their being marked.
Best thing to do would be to check your local area forum (somewhere in here: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19) to see if you can find anything already mentioned there, and then ask the question of your local editors if not.
Most areas have a map editors group, you can check here. If they have an editors group you should be able to report it to them and they can make it stick.
You can also download Waze Speed Limit Button that's posted in Waze forums to help send speed limit reports. Which is a lot better than reporting in the app. This is an android only app though. https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=819&t=184699
theoretically you can do it all from here:
https://www.waze.com/forgot_password
I had an issue recovering the full account from my wife's phone, but she forgot that she had created an account and had no idea what the username or email address was. We eventually found it after many tries, wish it was easier to recover by phone number.
It depends how long the underpass is. If it's a regular problem submit it as a location that might deserve a tunnel beacon in the future. They've added tunnel beacons in Pittsburgh and Boston, so Waze will actually update location and traffic and can run route guidance while completely underground. I don't know if they can do shorter underpasses but it sounds like a great application for one.
Report it from the app. Include the address and a pinpoint on the map, and use the text box to explain the issue. A local volunteer map editor should contact you through the app, and if nobody does you can always become a map editor yourself and correct the street addresses: https://www.waze.com/editor
I assume you're talking about the dashboard? (https://www.waze.com/dashboard). If so yes, mine says 4 days ago and I've used it the last 3 days. I assume yours says a year since it's been awhile. Be patient, probably about 5-10 days and it'll all clear up.
They don't have a public API but we can actually scrape data from their Live Map url
https://www.waze.com/rtserver/web/TGeoRSS Queryparam: ?ma=600&mj=100&mu=100&left=-122.55995750427246&right=-122.29628562927245&bottom=37.66946958724796&top=37.76919162010165&_=1457311751665
This is not a map editing bug. There is no road type that shows up as bright blue in the app like that.
This is a rendering bug and it should be reported in the App forum.
There is forbidden right turn from SD-46 onto 431st Ave. I can't edit it myself, but if you've driven there just go to
then click on the red arrow, so that it turns green, finally click the "Save" icon. The map will be updated in a few days.
So here.
Looking in the Waze map editor shows it's a 40° angle, and I think that's the problem. We can get word to someone to tweak that so it gives a turn instruction.
I would have thought so, but Waze doesn't show a roundabout there.
So I'm not sure what it is, /u/effeKtSVK
That's no good. Just for regular troubleshooting, have you tried uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling?
Might want to see if others are having trouble at https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3
/ #17 on the wishlist is an "avoid ghetto" feature. Unfortunately, Microsoft owns the patent for this and can not be introduced into waze.
/u/southernbenz, /u/idleagent -- I purposely went off-course this morning.
Oh! That sound! I've heard it, but it didn't stick in my memory before. Maybe because to me it's less obtrusive that the way my old Garmin would say "Recalculating! Recalculating!" over and over (like some off-course Dalek).
On my Bluetooth speakerphone it's not louder than Jane the guidance voice. But I know that can vary with the device, and higher pitches can seem louder at the same volume.
And I see now in the Waze forum that others are bothered by it, too. https://www.waze.com/forum/search.php?keywords=recalculating+sound
It's also possible that I've got some high-frequency hearing loss. These ears I've been carrying around since 1971 tested well about 5 years ago, though. Do you have newer ears? I'll have to ask my kids how loud it sounds to them; two of them have ears from this millennium.
It might have something to do with this a migration to Lollipop or a change in your provider. You can have a look at this guide I wrote on the Waze forum : https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=473&t=140725&sid=97518519fc615c272e10a2f8bb8fa8e2
If you are trying to edit something higher than your rank, make a post in the unlock forum. Here is a link: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=622
Also, don't concern yourself with "leveling up". We want to make the map better, not climb through the ranks as fast as possible. Reach out to your local senior editors. Send them messages, ask them if you can help, what needs to be done, and that you want to learn map editing. They will be more than happy to help and point you in the right direction.
If you select the road segments in the editor, you can see the username of the person who created it and last edited it in the lower part of the left sidebar.
Use the Forum messenger to contact the user about the road segments.
Go check out the app forum.
https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3
Do a search first because you're not the first to have this problem. If you do make a post be polite and don't rant about how frustrated you are (even though this is seriously frustrating).
It may take a few tries for them to figure out the problem but they want to help.
A better place to ask the question would be in the Waze forums where much smarter than I am hang out....
https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3
You can log in with your Waze id/password -- if you ever made one up. If you haven't, be sure to create your account from your phone so your accumulated points are attached to your new account.
This is a suggestion that Waze has acknowledged, Alerts in all directions
It's #11 & #15 in their official wishlist
Are you using a root explorer like Solid Explorer?
I can find it on my phone by going to Root storage (instead of internal memory) and navigating to /data/data/com.waze instead of just android/data folder. In case you are looking in the normal data folder, you won't find it there.
I like to add a custom voice (through waze) with the name of the voice pack (eg. Morgan Freeman), record one line so I can save it, and replace the original recording with sound files from the celebrity sound pack, so I can have a selection of all of them. The custom prompts folder can be found in root/data/data/com.waze/waze/custom_prompts/, that way you don't have to replace Randy or any other voice either
I solved past issues with my phone's GPS using GPS Test. It can diagnose issues, and update your AGPS which can help improve the lockon speed (May be a paid feature). It may also help to recalibrate your phone's compass when you have Waze open.
I've been using this for the past three years and am very happy with it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074Q433TL/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Every once in a while it will fall out after a particularly sharp turn but very easy to pop back in with one hand.
Clips into most vents (won't work if your car has round air vents that rotate as it won't be stable).
I prefer the ones that mount in a CD player (I never use mine), but in my car the CD player is a bit too low to be practical. I don't like the suction ones as they block some of the windshield.
You could use an app such as this. It will put a grid of black pixels on the screen that can switch every minute or so. It’s actually made for saving battery on AMOLED devices but you can use it for that too. It means that single pixels are not used and when the grid switches, the next set of pixels is unused. That makes a burn in less likely at the least. The downside is that the screen is darker and less sharp the more black pixels you use, but the less pixels the more likely is a burn-in.
This isn't supported in any easy way through the app.
I do, however, think you could achieve this with headphone cables. You need a 3.5mm channel splitter that splits the mic and headphone into two separate cables. Connect your computer to the mic input and connect the splitter to your phone. This should effectively connect the output sound from your computer to the mic of your phone. Now, in the Waze app, just press record and then play the audio file on your computer. You'll probably have to play with the volume to get it right. I'd assume you'd need it turned down quite a bit or else it will bee too loud for your phone to pick it up properly.
Possibilitity:
Your phone in your new car is in "radio shadow" caused by the dashboard or other obstructions (such as certain glass tints)
Consider downloading GPS Test from Play.google.com
This might help? If the person you're on the phone to to can text the destination to you, this Tasker project can start up Waze automatically.
I made it for Google Maps initially but at someone's suggestion I added Waze too. You can send a single destination or multiple ones and select each with a screen tap.
Only works with Android and needs Tasker App of course.
Anyway, just a suggestion. If you need any setup help just ask.
I don’t know if the map layer is still existent, but if not you can download your data which include the gps history. Depending on which format these data have you can use existing tools to generate a heat map from them
Cool! You can get a local to walk you through the changes (or unlock the map if needed) by joining the Waze New England Discord server. Or you can post to the official Waze mass forum, maybe with a link to the PDF and someone else can handle it.
It depends on what you are referring to. Waze has recently added a new "Road Shield" feature to the map. This specifically allows us to match the Road Numbers to the roads as shown on the road signs.
Road names are something completely different and are mapped in a different way. A complete "road number - road name" road will need to be added manually by the editors.
If you have a specific request for a name to be added to a road, please make a request on the UK Editor Request forum at https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=375
According to Waze, https://lifehacker.com/waze-adds-hands-free-controls-motorcycle-directions-an-1820846212
For now, this feature is limited to English speakers in the US, U.K., Canada, Australia, South Africa, Ireland, and New Zealand. More language options should be coming “soon.”

Use the app’s REPORT > ‘Map Issue’ function. Write in the description precisely which road is disconnected or closed and where. You can also report issues on a computer from the Waze Live Map.
Looks like there's an update: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2206139#p2206139
> we have learned that our earlier belief that it will take one month for this maintenance to complete may have been an overestimation
For me this is the specific issue: Whenever i connect my iPhone (with iOS 15.1 currently) to my car (a 2017 KIA Cee'd), audio playback works fine until i open Waze. When i do, one of two things will happen (most of the time, maybe 4/5 times): *Audio playback will be paused, and I can start it again by pressing play on the app again. *Audio playback will be muted on front speakers (as if waze was playing a notification), and continue normaly on the rear speakers.
This happens regardless of what app is currently playing back audio, i've had this issue with Apple Music, Spotify and Overcast. It also happens if the audio playback app is open when i connect the phone, and then switch to the split screen page of Carplay, as soon as the Waze map is loaded, one of the two bugs above will trigger.
Neither of these problems trigger if i use apple maps or google maps instead.
Edit: i encourage anyone else with this issue to contact waze with feedback through this link: https://www.waze.com/row-ContactForm/form-web/en/core-web
Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the app? It sounds like it's not getting GPS and time info from your phone's OS, if it's not just locking up as soon as you start it. If something's corrupted in the app then reinstalling should fix it.
Also this might sound dumb but check that your phone's GPS is turned on, and check that your proper location is shown in a different app like Google Maps. If you're on Android you can install the GPS Status app, the free version will show you if you're getting a good GPS signal or if your phone is using cached data.
Personally I cant do navigation without the map up. You could always get a device like this

$100 off coupon!
Spent a while in a panic trying to get the files again but I realised that I actually have them and just StartDrive.mp3 was missing. So StartDrive8_2.mp3 is probably going to need renaming to that. On the plus side, saw your post.
tl;dr: here
You will need to add your preferred end-point as a "favorite", and then you will need to set the new "favorite" as your Home destination. More information is available here.
If you believe Waze should direct all visitors (ie. food delivery, FedEx, tenants, grandma) I'd encourage you to access the Waze Map Editor site and add a Point Place to assist others. I am assuming you're not currently an editor, so please excuse me, but it sounds like you'd be a good candidate to hop on the bandwagon!
Hmmm.
My only remaining suggestion is to try getting an answer from the official Waze app discussion forum, at https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3
Remember to post your phone model, and if you are using the phone directly, or through another device, such as CarPlay.
Try letting it sit for a day and see if the setting come back, if it doesn’t here is a link to contact support if it never resolves.
It is weird that it happens every time the app updates.
Oh, you can just find Stephen Colbert's custom voice pack here: https://www.waze.com/ul?acvp=910CBAA5-5E79-4447-A28A-07EA47CC8B76 That's probably easier 😁
There could be a road segment or junction that's configured incorrectly in the map editor. If you post about it in your local forum on the Waze forums an editor for that area can check for problems
https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19&sid=395a0c26cfb49e80720b7d4ad72b55a3
If you're no longer in the area, I'd recommend logging into the Waze Live Map on a PC, right-clicking on the location and using the "Report a problem" feature. If you're still in the area, you can report the problem using the [REPORT > Map Issue] feature in the app.
I'll welcome you as well. I'm not new to Waze, but I'll be moving to Idaho soon :)

Rud1st is right about Discord - we use it as our preferred communications. There is also a lot of information found in the Waze forums.
I totally understand that. If you can point out some particularly grievous locations where there are no u-turn signs either here or in PM or in the waze forum for your location, we could at least get those fixed.
It would require Apple integrating the player with Waze. An app an get added to the list if the author goes through this program https://www.waze.com/audioplayer
You could submit a suggestion to Apple https://www.apple.com/feedback/apple-music.html
The list of apps are the ones that can integrate with Waze as an audio player. An app that can play local files could get added to the list if the author goes through this program https://www.waze.com/audioplayer
Indeed, and if you want to get directly involved why not join the UK editing community at https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=55
One word of warning though. One of your preferred features is Lane Guidance. LG mapping in the UK is still quite immature at the moment, so if you spot any that's needed please let us know. Though some we won't be able to map as some junctions are so tightly packed together lane guidance is useless with the current iteration of LG we have available to us.
I tried it in Livemap and didn't get a route.
Get involved with your country or region’s editing community and you should be able to request unlocks or updates as necessary. Soon enough you’ll rank up and be able to handle these things yourself. https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

Apparently it didn't hide it completely, just after being in motion, like you said. But the option is gone. If I go out later, I'll try it out without Android Auto and see what happens.
Plug your usual route into
See if it gives the same crazy routing. If so then there’s a chance the map has been damaged and it needs to be reported.
Not saying that’s the case but it’s a good tool in debugging routing issues.
Unfortunately it takes time to learn all the nuances of map editing and the roads where the consequences of an error could impact a large number of users require protection from innocent mistakes or outright vandalism. This is why there is a rank system in the first place. You should be able to submit unlock requests in your country’s community forum or through a community sanctioned channel like discord or slack. Check this site to find the appropriate one for you, or check out your country’s forum here
Yup, all of the Waze map is crowd sourced, built by volunteers. You can learn more about the Waze community in Germany in their forum, on the German Wazeopedia, or in their Slack server.
Everybody is invited, but if you're in the USA it is during the workday (assuming you work "9 to 5"). https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=306286
The email login is currently broken, but you can login with your username. If you post here, someone might be able to help with the change. Otherwise, posting in the official forum for where you live will get help quickly. https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

Left driving countries will reach 100% in the following weeks.
You can adjust anything that isn’t locked above your level, and you can make changes to places which are subject to moderation by more senior editors.
