Wizmouse (Windows XP-10) It makes it so your scroll wheel will scroll any scrollable window it's over, not just the window in focus. It's amazing. Edit: I swear not every program I use already has this functionality in W10. Wizmouse fixed that for all but one (stupid Sam Broacaster...)
Also, Clover (Windows XP-8, it's buggy on 10). It adds Google Chrome style tabs and various functionality to Windows Explorer.
Also, laptops are computers...
clover: an extension/addon for windows explorer
allows you to run chrome-like "tabs" instead of seperate windows,
allows you to set bookmarks to any place on your drive and instantly go there with 1 click,
also uses chrome's shortcuts, like cntr+ n for new tab and cntr+w for closing a tab
what it looks like
this has improved my productivity significantly, without it....it takes ages to go to certain places

I saw a post on here for the file explorer that I actually really like, it's called clover, it adds chrome style tabs to the explorer so no more millions of windows! :D
Here's the link if you wanna check it out :D http://ejie.me/
For windows; Clover. Tabs in windows explorer that function similar to tabs in chrome. I am in love with this little program and annoyed when I use a computer that doesn't have it. It is massively useful when you need several directories open at the same time.
To simplify my desktop experience I use Clover.
It adds multi-tab functionality similar to Google Chrome. You can even use Google Chrome themes on it if you want, and have a favorites bar. I have the favorites bar activated, but I've removed the name of them (because I can tell what they are by their icon), and so I only have the icons on it, just like I do in Google Chrome.
I use a program called Clover which modifies Windows Explorer to include tabs. I won't name all of the quirks to it (it's not perfect and has a bug or two that you have to work around), but it implements tabs in Windows Explorer. http://ejie.me/
I'm not quite sure what you mean......but for no other reason than I like it and you may find it handy. Have this. http://ejie.me/
EDIT: TABS in windows explorer. No more shuffling through 30 windows. Now you can shuffle through 30 tabs. XD
It has been forever since I've seen another Clover user!
For those of you who are wondering, this is clover: http://ejie.me/
Everything should be explained on the site-- it's like a new and improved file browser.
The non-straight title bar looks beautiful. Also, do you know if the theme will work with Clover? I've tried some other themes and Clover was the one program that broke all of them.
Looks neat, but my experience w/ other explorer shells like Directory Opus and Total Commander kind of turned me off.
Plus, it's not open source, and their excuses for it are weak. Opensource it, let people help, and convince us that it's not doing anything nefarious. A file explorer plugin would be able to gather so much information if they wanted to..
A. The fact that I can't implement a functional, multi-tabbed file explorer is no excuse for one of the largest software developers on earth.
Don't say it can't be done, because it can. Don't say it's unfeasible, because it obviously is. Don't say it's useless, because it isn't. Microsoft has no excuse for not implementing this. They can adopt clover and I don't think anyone would mind.
Ohh okay. That's a good guess.
I'm actually using this clover. It's a computer program that turns your windows explorer (my documents and stuff) into something like a Google Chrome window so you can have different tabs. It's really helpful.
It's Clover, a replacement for Windows explorer, because it uses chrome-like tabs, and shortcuts, so I can use the programmed buttons on my mouse to easily navigate through multiple folders.
A few downsides though:
Other than that, great program
EDIT: just saw your edit lol
It's INSANELY good. I keep having to close and open a 7 subdirectory folder because of recompilation of my app, long story short I've just added that folder path to a bookmark using Clover, and after compiling my app, I can get into the folder via one click instead of 14.
So in short, FUCKIN AWESOME. http://ejie.me/ for anyone who wants the link
Not without 3rd party addons or 3rd party replacement for Windows/File Explorer.
Personally I haven't tried any of these so I cannot recommend anything specific, but I know of Clover and QTTabBar also for complete replacement I think there's Total Commander.
EDIT: I hope that's what you ment as I admit I was a bit confused with comparison with Chrome and Windows Explorer as these aren't really comparable in my opinion.
Thank you for your reply and input.
I'm an idiot. I installed Clover (http://ejie.me) on the advice of a trusted friend for the tab support, and upon reading their changelog it seems that double-click to go up a level is an intentional feature. -_-
I'm blaming the multitude of software installed recently on the new PC and my lack of sleep for my oversight.
Also, thank you for the fascinating tidbit about Windows folder hierarchy! Learned something new
If anyone is looking for Clover 3.0.406 which isn't downloadable anymore, Archive/Wayback Machine still has it: https://web.archive.org/web/20140207102318/http://ejie.me/uploads/Clover_Setup_3.0.406.zip
I'm a fan of Clover (make sure to uncheck "Launch folder windows in a separate process" in your Folder Options > View menu) and, while not technically a tool, using the Run dialog for everything.
You can make a shortcut to anything, put the shortcut in a folder in your Path system environment variable, and name the shortcut what you want the command to be. It works for scripts, browser-specific websites, easier to remember versions of existing functionaly (why type devmgmt.msc when you can just type devices?), and depending on the item you're accessing, arguments can be specified after the command.
http://ejie.me/ - multi-tab functionality for windows explorer and I have it on all my installs.
Making and receiving calls I just forward calls to my skype when home and have the $5 p/mth unlimited cost with the to make calls.
As for backups I just make an updated clone of my install every so often before a major update using Aomei Backupper
plex icon pack. note that I edited some to be more blue.
clover 3 explorer mod
One that I have been unable to stop using, and that I don't understand not being native, is Clover.
It's a windows file Explorer that works like the normal one except for a few things.
It runs tabs instead of multiple windows.
You can bookmark paths that you use often, so you don't have to go looking through a long list of folders to get where you want.
It has shortcuts like your browser, ctrl+w to close a tab, ctrl+t to open a new tab, ctrl+shift+t to reopen last closed tab, all that stuff. As well as restore last session if it crashes.
It doesn't sound like much, but it makes everything so much smoother.
http://ejie.me (it looks a bit sketchy, but I've never had problems with it)
IMO you're spot on in regards to the tabs. I've tried Clover and while initially intrigued (who else wouldn't?!) of the concept, I quickly got tired of the extra nuisance it created for me. Having only one folder visible at a time limited me more than empowered me, which is ultimately why the application was uninstalled.
I've also tried One Commander since it described itself as "re-imagined from user experience point of view to allow users easier navigating and organizing large amount of computer files each of us has today", since I recognized myself in the description. Though contrary to its words, the application is hardly user-friendly and still confuses the hell out of me, even though I've followed it since early beta and the interface changes it have underwent. Now it's out of beta, but still as confusing as before...
It's Clover! It puts chrome-like tabs in windows explorer. This is their page http://ejie.me/ ~~(it's offline now for some reason)~~. And here is an image of it http://www.eyeonwindows.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/tutorial_clover_explorer_tabs.jpg
Edit: Wording. Also the page is back online.
Here is a list of some good ones. Clover is another one that I used but it hasn't been officially updated in a while.
I hate Nautilus with a passion, all because of the crappy implementation of tree view. https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/120098/how-to-show-the-tree-view-in-left-pane-of-nautilus Why is there no better option for horizontal navigation? It used to be there, then someone decided to remove it. Comon, these are the basics of human-centered design.
Sure, there are alternatives on Linux. Same can be said of Windows. If you want tabbed browsing for Explorer, get Clover http://ejie.me/, it integrates tabbed browsing for Explorer seamlessly, Chrome-style.
Depends on what you want. If you want something pretty I don't really know. If you want something functional with tabbed browsing, I know a couple things.
I use Clover, though it's been a bit buggy for me on Win10. I've played around a bit with QTTabBar, but haven't stuck with it because it doesn't have a keyboard shortcut for creating a new tab, which is pretty dumb (you could probably create a custom keyboard shortcut with AutoHotkey, but I don't think you should have to use a browser where that is necessary). Explorer++ looks promising, though I haven't tried it yet. I'll probably give it a try later this week since Clover has been so buggy with Win10 so far.
It's Clover. I'm not exactly sure what it's built on (sure does look like Chrome), but it works great for adding tabs, and that bookmark bar, too.
The icons are just your standard Properties > customize > change icon feature.
> Clover
^5 ^Seconds ^of ^duckduckgo ^and ^i ^found ^it. ^;D
It's a lot easier than that link above me shows. all you have to do is right click the clover icon on your start bar then right click clover in the menu that pops up and go to properties. then in the short-cuts tab select the change Icon button near the bottom and then choose the new icon you want to use. the icon must be in .ico format I believe. here is a link to the one that I use, its a mix of both the original and clover together! http://ejie.me/images/Windows_Explorer_Clover.ico
Clover its an amazing program that adds chrome-style tabs to windows explorer and allows you to bookmark directories. You can also access the Control Panel through it.

Don't worry about it. 8.1 is pretty awesome once you get used to it and after the initial setup you really don't see the Metro interface at all. Enjoy faster boot times, a much better file explorer (although I would recommend http://ejie.me/ as an extension to it for you.) Also, the task manager is so much better in 8 and 8,1, really.
Binary switch eclipse is good if you tend to get distracted by the internet.
Clover brings tabs to windows explorer.
Teracopy makes copying a lot of files suck less.
Clover is a windows explorer that is like chrome. It comes in handy for me because you can bookmark folders on your drives or network, open up multiple tabs in the same window, and can remember what tabs you left open last you closed it. It is a Chinese program though, take that as you will.
For future threadcomers: oldapps.com is 404'ing when I try to download old versions, but wayback machine has it
I suggest everyone to give Clover a try, it's a lot better than the standard File Explorer imo. The best thing about it is that it even allows for tabs to be used. I tried it a long time ago and never looked back.
This is the website that hosts this app, and based on the Language section of the web page, I tried 'Chinese Simplified', 'Chinese Traditional' and 'Japanese' over at this online OCR service but wasn't able to get any meaningful translations.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
Hey, The website was http://ejie.me/ since I use their software Clover and it must be calling home from time to time.
If I can report the issue no problem, but I will not be able to do troubleshooting for the support team since I have uninstalled Malwarebytes.
I have since uninstalled the software because it was causing major lockup on my Win7 machine. I've seen on the forum that there is a lockup known issue due to Windows Essential, but I'm not using this software so maybe it's a different issue.
The lockup makes it impossible to log in my user account, I will be staring at a black screen infinitely. After rebooting repeatedly I might get to load some of my UI, but most windows will be unresponsive. The only way for me to remove the software was to start in safe mode.
Once this issue will be fixed I will re-install Malwarebytes.
Has anyone used the File Explorer tab program Clover? It looks to be right up my alley but the installer is in japanese... and there are some check boxes there i cant read. I scoured the website but couldn't find an English installer. Am i just missing something?
Yo, I've got a bit of a problem. I use this program instead of the ol' explorer.exe.
The issue started yesterday (a few years of use and no issue until today). I used Windows Aero Tweaker and clicked the reset button.
Now everytime I open folders, they open with explorer.exe instead with Clover. The program does not have a "make this default" option.
I tried reinstalling and installing the newer version of this software (those who want to try Clover, I recommend they use 3.0 instead of the new version 3.1, because the old ones supports pinned tabs).
anyone knows what I can do to fix this?
Check out Clover. It looks exactly like Chrome but with Windows Explorer being shown instead of web pages. You can even set up a bookmarks bar with folders.
http://ejie.me/
Disclosure: It doesn't look great with Windows 10, but it works totally fine.
Oh. I'm using Clover to add tabs to Windows Explorer. It's sometimes buggy though (if I left an explorer window opened and come back to sleep, it gets unresponsive and I'd have to restart explorer), but still I can't let go of its functionality.
I think it's time Microsoft built tabs to Windows explorer natively... I mean OSX already has it for long.
WizMouse for Windows. Makes the mousewheel scroll any window under the mouse. This is big time saver and should be integrated into windows. The software works reliably and it hasn't broken any program or games I use (Visual Studio, IntelliJ, browsers, etc.).
Clover has already been mentioned here but I thought I'd give that a vote as well. It's another great timesaver. http://ejie.me/
XYPlorer a really good filemanager with tons of extra features! They have a free version that does everything (and much more) you'd ever want from a file manager.
Also Clover. One of the first things I install on my computers, right after chrome. Use tabs in the windows file explorer! How cool is that!
Mostly battery and wifi issues are fixed by updating BIOS. Maybe hold off unless you experience any.
For productivity, I recommend Clover to everyone. It basically allows you to manage files like Chrome (tabs, bookmarks).
To test your battery life, charge to full and once its almost dead go into command prompt (search cmd and cntrl+shift+enter to open it as admin) then type powercfg/batteryreport and powercfg/sleepstudy these will create files you can open up to view a bunch of info like battery wear, capacity, % drained during each active / standby session
I customised my computer: I wrote my own chrome extension to replace the new tab with more important info. I made some Rainmeter skins that link to apps I use frequently. I got Clover to make navigating files easy. Added a few shortcuts to my text editor(Atom). Wrote quite a few scripts to do my homework. And the absolute best: I got 2 monitors.
If you are on a single display I suggest clover and even I use it on my setup as it adds tabs to windows explorer.
As for the OP's question I have a 4 display setup, 3x 24" screens and 1x 42" TV mounted above them in the center,; TV is used for gaming, center is used for twitch, right is xsplit and left is everything else when I am game streaming, else I use my broadcasting software for my station on the right, irc in the center and browser on the right with the games on the TV when I go on air else when not game streaming or am on air, left is reddit, center is twitter, left is facebook and TV is streaming shows, movies and youtube :P
edit: slight fixes to reply.
Clover. I haven't seen it mentioned yet. It basically brings a lot of the Google Chrome functions to Windows Explorer so you can browse your files in different tabs, create bookmarks, etc. Seems like a simple idea, and when I go back to the stock file browser it slows me down quite a bit. [Windows Only]

Q: How to change the explorer icon back to its original icon? A: Some people don’t like Clover icon, someones do like. So I don’t change it before I find a better one, ore someone create more beautiful one. Mr. 3man and nick give a pretty ico for Clover, click to download: (by 3man) (by nick). You can replace the shortcut icon here: C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\Clover.lnk

Installing Clover or similar software and keeping a bullet journal, its been helping me remember little things and plan ahead.
Also, link all of your different email addresses (work, school, and personal) to one Gmail inbox.
instead of just commenting with something silly here is Wings for your Windows Explorer!

I shooped the descriptions together and such, and added the lines to make it easier to read. I don't think what I'm using changes the layout of the files from how regular windows 7 explorer looks.
I do however use Clover which puts native windows explorer in a modified version of Chrome. So you have tabbed Explorer! It's pretty nice.
It seems like everytime one of these threads is done, people always mention the same stuff. Here is one I rarely see mentioned.
If you like Chrome's way of handling tabs and bookmarks, check out Clover. It brings the tab interface of Chrome to Windows Explorer, and is all around amazing. I don't know how I survived without it. (The site is normally in Chinese, so the link above will redirect you to Google Translate.)
Do you know where the download link for Clover is? I can't see it on the page anywhere. =(
