Usually with Japanese only games you gotta execute it in japanese. I recommend Locale Emulator, worked wonders for me. Instructions on downloading are there.
Thanks for putting this together! It took me a little while so I found an easier way to do this without renaming files
Pretty much same instructions as above:
Install the game (extract the zip into a folder)
Install the 1.3.0 patch to the same directory (extract and replace any file conflicts, run update.exe with japanese app locale emulator if you don't have japanese language installed)
Install the vr patch to the same directory (same as above)
Install the HF patch to the same directory (make sure to check the two addition clean install boxes, I didn't get the reipatcher shortcut on my desktop without checking this for some reason)
Copy the following items from CMD3D2x64_Data/Managed to CMD3D2VRx64_Data/Managed
> CM3D2.ExternalSaveData.Managed.dll
> CM3D2.MaidVoicePitch.Managed.dll
> CM3D2.Translation.dll
> ExIni.dll
> UnityInjector.dll
Copy ./ReiPatcher/CM3D2x64_NTLEA.ini and name it CM3D2VRx64_NTLEA.ini
Edit CM3D2VRx64_NTLEA.ini and add VR in front of x64
> AssembliesDir=%cm3d%\CM3D2VRx64_Data\Managed
> Arguments=CM3D2VRx64.exe "C932" "L0411"
Just a tip here, I recommend installing Locale Emulator. It's helped me out SO much and it's just the best option for playing Japanese games at this point, such as Yume 2kki, .flow, and others.
It's a mojibake.
Change the language, or (if you want to use the editor in Japanese for whatever reason) use Locale Emulator to run the editor in the Japanese locale.
Hey there,
It'd be helpful to run the game with something like a Locale Emulator (https://xupefei.github.io/Locale-Emulator/). This will allow your computer to display the Japanese characters in the error message so someone can assist you further. It also circumvents needing you to change your entire system to Japanese.
I'd recommend installing this and running Dragon Quest X through it. When it errors again, post a screenshot of the entire error.
This visual novel is "for Japan only". To play it you need any Locale Emulator to emulte fake location. For exemple, Microsoft AppLocale (XP/Vista) or Locale Emulator (windows 7,8,10), or whatever. After instal, in the context menu, when right-clicking on "krkr.eXe" file, choose new Japan profile and then "run in japan" .
Did you download the game as a zip file? Japanese zip files need to be unzipped a special way, otherwise the file names come out all screwy. That would cause the game to be unable to locate those files, which could lead to the error message that you're seeing.
If so, you either need to set your system locale to Japanese before you unzip it, or you need to unzip it using a special program like this one. I personally prefer the latter option, because the former option requires you to restart your computer. For the latter option, all you gotta do is drag the zip file onto sjisunzip.exe, and then it'll unzip it with the correct filenames.
You might also have to have your system locale in Japanese in order to actually run the game, or use something like Locale Emulator, but I don't *think* that's necessary for MV/MZ games, which seems to be what you're trying to play. So I'd just try the unzipping thing first, and see if that helps.
As mentioned, tons of Japanese software in general (not just VNs) will not function unless the locale is set to Japanese.
btw if you don't want to do too many tweaks to your PC, I recommend the Locale Emulator: https://xupefei.github.io/Locale-Emulator/
With this you can simply launch individual pieces of software with the locale applied.
Don't know if this is the same as the issue I had, but if it is, I solved it by dropping this into the game's directory (the same folder as the MBTL.exe). https://nuget.info/packages/Microsoft.XAudio2.Redist/1.2.6 Extract the x64 .dll from build\native\release\x64 and rename it to xaudio2_9.
If that doesn't work, try running the game in Japanese app locale. You can use something like Locale Emulator to do this. https://xupefei.github.io/Locale-Emulator/ This'll (hopefully) change the garbled text from that error message into Japanese. If it does, then repost the message in the thread.
Hey, I know it's weird replying to a 5 day old comment but I did torrent VNs in the past so I had a little bit of know-how. It is like win7 era knowledge though so take it with a grain of salt.
If by "not running properly" you mean the application launches but all the text is gibberish - it's likely due to your system locale not being Japanese (system locale controls the language used when displaying text in programs that do not support unicode - so changing it doesn't change your display language if it's English don't worry). You can either fiddle with system settings, or you can try something like LocaleEmulator.
If it doesn't launch at all, it's probably due to compatibility issues since these were made for older OS. Use the windows backward compatibility troubleshooter and hope for the best :/
(if you're playing something very popular like Fate - their subreddit has a modded "Ultimate Edition", it's easier to use that instead)
Hope that helps somewhat, this is just what I can think of off the top of my head.
Honestly I'm confused why this doesn't work with these settings, since it did for me and I haven't met other people who've had this issue even with these settings, so that's strange. I guess you have two options you can try: one of them is changing your entire OS language to Japanese to see if it works. Though considering you intend to use the Spanish patch, this is probably a pretty annoying solution. The other thing you can try is Locale Emulator, but I do not have personal experience with the program. Everyone using it on this subreddit seems to be saying that it has worked without problems on every game they've tried.
It... depends. While it's easy with western VNs or the Japanese ones that are officially translated, it's more complex with purely Japanese ones. What you must remember is that you always need to install and open the VNs with Japanese locale or with the Japanese Locale Emulator! Sometimes you will need to apply a patch to them. With translation or not.
If you have any particular VN that you want to install but don't know how, be free to text me ;)
You need this. Just install it, then right-click the game, and set it to Japanese.
Though, I've heard you don't need this if you're using Windows 10. It plays nicely regardless of whatever locale you have your PC set to.
Did you transfered the Userfile folders to the new location?
You need to transfer motion, field model and BGM folders.
Dont forget to run in with Japanese applocale.
btw I learned that if you use a program called Locale Emulator you can get the game to run in Japanese so that the numbers actually display correctly. It was really simple so you could look into that if you want to not have to convert the letters to numbers. It should work no matter what kind of OS you have.

With this can emulate specific .exe files in a japanese environment without having to change the language. Works well for VH and other japanese titles. Also if you want to unzip things with a japanese locale, just start winrar with the emulator.
