So this is Manyland, an MMO where everyone who logs in can draw a block, and place it. You can also create your own areas where others can visit but not edit, or invite friends to edit along with you. You can also program interacting things for whole adventures, like this one for instance. You can also compose music blocks and much more. Here's a little video about it. There's no theme or predefined plot or goal, it's all invented by all of us as we go.
The pictured map now shows what everyone has built so far in the public spawn area, 1 pixel in the map being 1 block that was placed (and often: placed, removed, placed over with a new one and so on). So what you see there is creation of many, many people with a lot of freedom to build in any direction. You can jump right in and build along or meet people in the world.
It's called Manyland. We're on Steam and on the web and on iPad. Manyland doesn't make money so if you wanna support us pls consider getting the Steam version. If you're broke you can use the free web version tho!
1 pixel in this map image consists of 1 block placed. What you are seeing is the area surrounding the spawn point, Green Mountain. The image has been created by Azuros who was kind enough to share it. We're a big community and two indie devs working on it full-time, please feel free to ask me any questions here or visit yourself and draw, chat and build along with us.
Hi everyone! So I've been a huge fan of community pixel drawing since, well, almost forever. Back in 2005 we started a first experiment in black and white called Pixel Group where everyone could flip a pixel (some videos here). Then some years ago, we did a little dream project... a whole universe, explorable, walkable, scriptable, with chat, where absolutely anything can be drawn by everyone! You can also collect any tile you see, create specific areas, team up with others or edit in the open areas. Every single area is infinite in all directions (and there's over 400,000 different areas by now). Now imagine my surprise and happiness when I saw /r/place. So I figured, maybe this is something for you here to get your fix now. It's called Manyland and free to join (and if you wanna support us there's a Steam version too). All credit to the time lapse image posted goes to Azuros, the area shown is the main public spawn point called green mountain. Thanks everyone!
Pen can be seen in pink in the middle of the picture. Here's another snap... Manyland is a sandbox universe in 2d where we all draw the universe together (and Anyland is a sandbox universe in VR, I'm dev at both), and as Pen hangs out a lot in Anyland I asked him if he wanted to say hi to fans in Manyland! Thanks Pen!
All images are from sandbox universe manyland.com where everyone draws along. The deep learning network was trained by grabbing 5000 randomish photos from Google Image search results, then downsizing them to 32x32 pixels, and restricting the palette. That pixel version was then paired up with the original photo from Google to start training. The library used was pix2pix-tensorflow with thanks to its makers https://github.com/affinelayer/pix2pix-tensorflow
Hope this is of interest! If you have any questions, please ask. Here is the full Interacting syntax, and this is an adventure using it, a bit of a hommage to Zak McKracken and other Lucasfilm adventures.
Added a new location yesterday that takes more of a text approach... is that better? Oh, and Cyel made an extensive help book recently.
From the official behaviour etiquette: >For instance, killing others around you (unless it's part of a voluntary game amongst friends), cursing at them or otherwise showing hate against them, is against the etiquette.
This is against the rules.
Any age 13 to infinity is welcome! Feel free to introduce yourself in the Misc board too, if you find some friends you can ping each other from areas. Misc. board is in the first hut here: http://manyland.com/helptown
A universe where every invention, block, story, song and pixel is made by us, and where we can chat, play, party, battle, craft and hang out together. Oh and say hi in the Misc. forum please! It's in the holder in the first hut here if you haven't got it: http://manyland.com/helptown
Heh no I'm not (and how boring and evil a life that would be!). What may not be immediately seen unless you walk around is that Music Valley is a smaller part of an (infinite) universe called Manyland, created by all of us together in the world by drawing it, building it, composing it and such. Helptown has some overview videos, and if you try The Hub you'll find a lot of areas too. We're happy to show you around if you say hi in the world.
It's hard to explain, but basically we create different blocks and use them to build a world of our own in pixel art! You can collect things other people have made and place them elsewhere, create your own blocks to use, or just explore. Right now I think the welcome rings are a bit sparse since only level 5s can build there but if you go to Smalltown level 1+ (anyone logged in) can build.
There's not really a goal per se, it's sort of a mmosandboxthing. :)
Just want to say we have a high percentage of women over at Manyland, you are very much invited and we have a downvote button, and a flag report button you can use once you uprank, or you can email us about trolls and these cases will be investigated (and often banned).
From the Interacting help page:
"To transport someone use a direction in degrees and a distance from 0 to 100%:
I'LL TRANSPORT YOU OVER THE GAP. /TRANSPORTS 315 70
To transport someone to the location of the Interacting:
I'LL TRANSPORT YOU HERE. /TRANSPORTS HERE"
http://manyland.com/info-interacting (ctrl-f transport)
Gotcha, thanks. Our project, it's more in the early planning stages. We are working on Manyland, and infinite, open, shared 2d universe in the browser where everything you see is drawn & invented by all of us together (trailer, and please join if you like). We would love in the future to create a sibling to it in 3d called Anyland, and (comfortable) vr would be a strong focus.
I don't know if that's big, but Manyland is a 2d open world which is infinite in all directions, and all drawn by everyone in the world. There's over 10 million blocks placed in a connected universe with over 100,000 different drawings, and I believe the spawn area was 35,000 sectors large last time we counted. Some people tried to reach an end by going up high, I've seen an airelator up to 50,000 meters or so but people made it even higher.
There's a writable near Green Mountain (Area 3) where users create a thread to put all their favourite creations.

All these games will take up a huge amount of time,
Super Hexagon
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (Highly recommend)
Plague Inc. An improved copy of the old flash here: (http://www.crazymonkeygames.com/Pandemic-2.html)
Minecraft PE (still fun on mobile)
http://manyland.com/ (free and awesome version of minecraft but 2d, sadly you need internet)
Edit: Added some info.
Sorry for the speed crashes. If you have a second, would you mind please going to http://manyland.com/5 ... it's an area we optimized for being lightweight (where you spawned is the busiest area in the universe, pretty much, we sometimes switch around the spawn point). Does that perform better?
Manyland is an MMO where you draw everything... still in the greenlight section but you can already join online. (I'm co-dev and while it says Free to Play on Steam, we don't actually have any in-app purchases and are 100% focused on making it a great experience!)
:) If you like that campfire, you should check out my orchard:
http://manyland.com/deathsorchard
Go into the door on the hut a couple of times to reach the campfire.
What you can do is create an interacting with the right code.
If you mean the main area of your world, then it's just
enters: /to nameOfWorld
Or if you're thinking one of the main areas you can say
enters: /to 3
(or whatever number you want)
or to go to your last position in the last major area you were in:
enters: /to elsewhere
This all of course assumes you want it to be triggered by entering an interacting. You can do this under a wide variety of conditions, and I would reccomend reading the interacting help page http://manyland.com/info-interacting
We put up a whole page of snapshots at findmanyland.com/snaps/ today, and you can join right in your browser at manyland.com ... hope you enjoy!
It appears that you're asking how to use scripts to modify the client side of the game. This is against Manyland's Terms of Use . I am locking the thread to prevent other players from telling how to break the terms.
Anyland, for sure!
It's a kinda world-building + social platform + art + second life sorta thing...
Pros: - Scripting is simple and let's you add complex yet simple actions to your objects you create - has built in voice chat - great userbase - is free on steam
Cons: - everything has a sort of low-poly feel - sometimes difficult to find people to play with - eats up all of my time because I LOVE this game so much
My first experience with the developer behind it was with his 2D sandbox game, Manyland, but this time, Philip Lensen has outdone himself in this free, yet ultimately full VR social platform where you can make, do, be anything you want to!
Well, I definitely see your point! In fact it's a close call for us -- the choice between "blank canvas" area or say an impressive nature scene and so on. In 2D sibling Manyland, the spawn point is an "everybody edits" area (Green Mountain), and then you can walk 100 steps into any direction to instantly start building (whereas the center building is reserved to those who upranked). It also makes for a very interesting start.
In either case, most people do then go on and visit other areas (there's many impressive ones), we measure those "achievements" (and turn them into anonymized "newborn story" comic books, where each achievement is one panel). So to be more specific, it's Blank Canvas -> I'll build here now to improve -or- I leave and visit Great Areas. One I suppose obvious feedback though is then that despite cool areas, it can feel a bit lonely, which is definitely true in European mornings. It gets better at evening time US, and hopefully once VR truly becomes mainstream, any time of the day!

> Its usually much easier to start by finding a nice location in the wilderness and building or levelling on the bumpy terrain just to get started.
Yeah I definitely know what you mean. If you have a second, please have a look at sibling Manyland if you want, the starting area is infinite in all directions. We wanted to avoid Everyone-Edits & Infinite areas for now in Anyland (it's a long story how that works out in Manyland, it's based on a lot of features like Undo dust, and ranking), but it could be something for the future!
There's a flag reporting system so it's kind of democratically managed (and our terms don't mention nudity), but generally speaking, if you find a like-minded group of friends in a like-minded area, things can turn out fine. Here's an area which contains artistic nudity, for instance (which is different from running around naked at a spawn point to troll...).
Actually a web based game. It's so-so on mobile, but playable. Better on a larger screen though:
is an awesome 2d sandbox game. I've been playing it for years. There are no microtransactions, it is completely free. You can pay extra (5 USD monthly) to remove the side ad and get some unimportant additional features, but that's totally unnecessary.
sorry for that... there's actually an app out there for iOS which should work, what mobile device are you using if I may ask? We had some issues with Android in busier areas, like spawn point, though it fared better at e.g. http://manyland.com/1
(Made this experiment some years ago, and looking at yesterday's link figured some might find it of interest! If you enjoy this, feel free to have a look at our current project, a pixel sandbox universe where you can draw things and place in the world)
Whoever said that an afterlife had to have a god? Or even god*s*?
So long as an infinite number of alternative realities exists, and, hence, ours can be simulated any in them, we are guarranteed some form of afterlife. It simply has to be possible for our cosmos to exist within a computer in a (also) infinite number of alternate realities, for the mind of any one individual to be copied into another, different environment upon destruction. (If it truly is infinite, then all combinations of this must exist)
Then again, perhaps one or more of those beings involved could be regarded as god(s)? Also, being put in some kind of alternative reality that runs completely against anyone's expectations (such as llamaland) would be a massive plot twist for anybody.
We're not exactly long distance but I only get to see my boy once a week since he's in school. When I do see him I steal his t-shirts and wear them to bed, there's nothing more comforting than his smell.
We play an online game called Manyland where we can meet up, chat, draw, and build together, along with Animal Crossing on our 3DSes that he bought for christmas. Relaxing together with a game is awesome.
Step one: Create new area. Step two: While in that new area create a 'writable' type for the area. Step three: Place new writable in other areas so people can see that you're trying to start something.
Be careful with copyright. Exact pixel reproductions are not allowed.
Here's the help page, this might help. http://manyland.com/info-tips
Ok, to do that, you need to click on the code button at the top while editing, and add a line in this format:
/TRANSPORTS <angle> <distance>
The angle is in degrees, starting with zero on the right (3 o'clock) and increasing clockwise.
The distance is a percentage, from zero to 100.
So if you want to move someone upwards by the maximum available amount, that would be:
/TRANSPORTS 270 100
and down would be:
/TRANSPORTS 90 100
If you want to learn more about interactings, they are fully documented in the help that's linked with the little [?] button in the editor.
I've made a multiplayer game in the game system manyland: http://manyland.com/hunted
The rules are simple, just press the link above, the browser will load the javascript game (which is a part of a MUCH bigger game, but the game you see in the link called HUNTED is made by me)
Rules:
1) Select team by typing either Yellow Team or Orange Team.
2) Run to your base, grab your teams colours GUN, and bring that gun to the enemy base to score a point for your team.
3) Defend your team with that gun to stop them from bringing their colours GUN to YOUR base.
4) Use the various traps to make them start over again.
etc...
Have fun!
One gotcha to watch for: When you open it up, are you starting at the url given, or are you going directly to http://manyland.com.
If you are going to the error page directly, it won't redirect you to manyland.com. You instead need to enter the correct URL to start with.
In other words, if you go directly to http://static.manyland.com/er/500.htm, it will continue to show you that error even if it's no longer accurate.
Very interesting! I once years ago had the thought, it would be fun to give a random daily prompt -- like robot monkey, or what you say, spaceship on mars -- and then everybody would fill a square in a grid of squares on a blank canvas. Good squares could then be upvoted, bad ones would make places for new tries, and at the end of every day there'd be a new picture. Years later, part of that idea actually merged into our 2d sandbox universe Manyland, which is also made of tiles we all draw together! We also sometimes have an event called Word Build, where everyone gets together to vote on a bunch of random words, and then we create a whole area of that theme in a limited 30 minutes! Here's a video of one of the events.... the random words picked were Polar Viewpoint Purity Alphabet Troops, and we interpreted alphabet to mean a library.
My Aunt once got me and my sisters pictures. Hers was of ballerina shoes, and mine was of a clown. When my sister opened hers she said "Oh my god! I love ballerinas! How did you know?" I said the same when I opened mine, because I was the younger sister and wanted to be the same.
By next year, my sister had a bunch of ballerina stuff and I had a GIANT mural of a clown on my wall and sooo many little clown dolls and what not. It was a pretty big collection of clown stuff. I told my mom once what had happened, but she didn't believe me.
I guess one good thing that came out of it, is I also got many of these which I thought were very pretty.
This is interesting! We have a whole forum dedicated to this in Manyland. In Manyland, you can draw anything in 2d with pixels, and optionally set your creation to be clonable for others to work upon. I've created a small area so you can have a look if you want.
A thanks for the comments on the last submission! This map was again done by Azuros, and its center is this spawn point. It's an open area so there were many taking part in this building process. As before, 1 pixel in the map is block placed.
If you go to http://manyland.com/info, it gives you the help page, on which the second bullet point is "I'm locked/banned, what do I do?".
Click on that link and it gives you the full run down. The short of it is, if you've just been locked out due to too many downvotes, then you'll be allowed back in after a day or two.
I personally got auto-banned for hacking, and don't actually know what the policy is. I contacted them through the e-mail address provided on the help page, "", and apologetically explained that my intentions were good, but that I had been banned for hacking - inquiring as to whether that was permantent. I don't know if it is or not, but after an e-mail exchange with Philipp, he re-enabled my account.
Multiplayer. Make your own 2D world made out of "blocks" you create yourself or build and create in community areas. Sort of like a open to all Minecraft server, but involves much more of a creative aspect. It's best uses in my opinion are creating your own platform games (ex: you can create your own "area" with interactive blocks that code different aspects of the game) or just showing off your pixel art to community and allowing others to use it (ex: you can create a "body" which other users can wear if you share it). You can also collaborate with other players. There are a lot of younger players but it's relatively easy to find a "niche" once you get a hold on the game and social aspect. Or you can just ignore the social aspect completely.
Manyland is a pretty cool game. It's an open world where everybody builds whatever they want. Currently not very well known but i bet it's gonna be a big thing in the future.
I guess in theory a dev team could release a massively multicitizen universe on both platforms, their server doing the syncing. We currently have such an approach in 2d for this on iPad, Kindle Fire, and desktop browsers... naturally you need to adjust a bit for each device... and we hope one day this is possible for VR too. In practice it all depends on the details of course, like how well apps like Unity or Unreal will be able to compile to both, if device differences can be bridged, if app store policies aren't for some reason too restrictive and such...
Exciting times!
Great, and you can! If you login there's a little record button to the right side whenever you pick up an instrument. Hit it, play some notes, then hit play again to play more notes over it (and undo button undoes the last thing). You can also pick up another instrument to mix. When you're done, hit the checkmark and it turns into a music block you can place back into the world for others to pick up. You can also convert the melody line into a music sheet drawing you can edit (hit Change when the music block is in the editor). Also check out the video "How to create music" in Helptown. Hope to see you in the world!
May I suggest open 2d world Manyland, where everything is drawn right in the world? It's an infinite universe with realtime chat, activities, custom objects that can be coded, music creation and so much more. It's available as app or site.
This is really neat. If you can't find anyone in Plink at the moment, we also have a feature in Manyland where everyone can pick up an instrument and make music together. I've just dropped some guitars and pianos around spawn point if you want to have a go.
We have see-letters-being-typed-in-realtime in this 2d universe, and it's a totally different experience. I'm not sure Google Wave was the first to use it (probably not) or the first time I saw it, but I'm sure it inspired a few devs...
yes you can also make harmful emitters... if a friend of yours is holding the same you can shoot at each other... one of us (Godiva) also organized gladiator fighting tournaments with special equipment you can carry... give it a try for a while and please say hi and ask in the forum (a blue board, it's also in the first house here)
Going under a lot of renovation even now. I decided to repaint the walls a sort of off-white spackled gray. I built some hardwood floors and installed some new white cabinets with granite counters.
http://manyland.com/#udv9c9bt3a http://snapshot.manyland.com/a5bbrrmtm3.png
Great people. Lots of fun to play, constant and consistent updates (Philipp, one of the 2 devs, is always on and listening to suggestions from the community), some really awesome stuff is made there.
You draw your own 'blocks' and can make interactives and such, it's hard to explain because there's so much to it. The outer ring is kind of a mess of newbs but there's lots of interesting stuff in the inner ring at rank 5.
It was meant to be a disk drive :) The different game disks you see to the right can be inserted and will then play a YouTube longplay of the game, like Lemmings or Budokan. (Well, in Manyland anyway, there you can draw everything in the world and make it interact!)
Manyland is a free and open sandbox universe where everything you need can be collected or drawn by yourself. You can create alone or in teams, it's all one shared world with chat. We're currently working on a login-free version.
Manyland is still on Greenlight but you can already join for free. We're working on a login-free version at the moment...
I hope pixel art is appropriate in this sub. If not, my apologies.
The image was created by the great Morsmage, who is part of our community at Manyland where we all together draw a shared universe.
We all created this world together, so it's actually the artwork of thousands of different people. 2d platforming environments have been around since many decades, and Manyland's original inspirations go back to things like Great Giana Sisters, Zak McKracken, Lemmings, Worlds Away and many more from the 1980s and 1990s.
And as you asked, it's http://manyland.com -- the first concepts were born in 2008 and we started working on it 2 years ago. The first 2d world creation I've worked on is from the late 1990s, was called Adventure Script along with a graphic editor for making the tiles, so it's a lifelong love.
